Dining at Digger's Sting is a must for us whenever we are in town, and I'd guess we have been fans for close to 20 years. The interior is warm and intimate, and the servers have always been stellar. This time my husband ordered the prime rib with steak fries, and I had the prime rib & scallops combo with loaded mashed potatoes. The prime rib was cooked a perfect medium rare, plus was well-seasoned and sooooo tender and juicy; my husband loves the accompanying mushrooms so much that I gave him mine as well. I also truly enjoyed the seared scallops. Another amazing night at Digger's, and it was our favorite meal of our 3 day stay!! read more

What a great find downtown LaCrosse. Themed after the classic movie The Sting, Diggers delivers excellent food in an old school steak house vibe. Waitress Maddie was sweet and perfectly attentive. We had a Filet, double sirloin and ribeye. Then argued about whose was better. Sides of au jus and mushrooms paired perfectly with our steaks. Recommend the garlic mashed baby reds. We sat at the bar and ate dinner. It was amazing. We had a wonderful bartender, Azure. She recommended the scallops with Cajun and the side of Alfredo. My boss had the filet and ribs. So good!! Her martinis were excellent. we chatted the entire evening with Azure and the other wait staff. Great welcoming place. Yes, it's a steakhouse but it's perfect spot for a classic fish fry! Digger's has retro decor and supper club style ambiance. The cocktails offer variety and the dinner menu gives you great options to personalize and upgrade your meal. Our server, Kaz, took great care of us! We opted for the breaded cod and pan fried walleye. But he were excellent. Soup and salads were delicious, but the star appetizer was the buttery, crispy garlic toast! We will be back! read more

Food 5/5 - The steak was amazing and cooked to order. The fries were a lovely thick cut and paired well with the steak. We cannot forget about the butter bread that comes before the food, to die for! Service/ Ambiance 5/5 - Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful with menu decisions. Steakhouse was an old school vibe and kept clean. Awesome old school ambiance steak house. We came in after a long day while in the area for work. We got seated right away and the staff was super friendly. I had the 6 oz filet that was delicious and super tender I ordered medium it came out well done but the flavor was still awesome and it was 8:45 so I didn't want to trouble the kitchen sending it back. Others at the table got the prime rib and 14oz rib eye and they both loved it as well. Cesar salad was also delicious with what tasted like a homemade dressing. Overall great experience. read more

My favorite restaurant in La Crosse! Best ribs in town. Everything is wonderful, food, ambiance, friendly & efficient waitstaff. My home away from home over 40 years now. All their soups are delicious. Pasta Alfredo with char-broiled chicken is fabulous. The salad with hot bacon dressing is excellent! (At first I didn't think I'd like it, but I loved it!) Great food and service! We didn't have a reservation (you NEED one for table seating). They have first come seating at both of their bars, so we arrived promptly at 4 pm when they open. Sorry, this is a great restaurant, but I sat at the bar for appetizers. I ordered the rib app with garlic bread. Maybe the bartender was new, but the drink wasn't made correctly and it took 10 minutes when she brought me the garlic bread and another 15 minutes and still no bbq ribs. 25 minutes and no food and it was just an APPETIZER!! I cashed out and left. Sorry Diggers, but you failed me tonight. read more

I looked up best restaurants in LaCrosse and Diggers Sting was on most lists. So, as we were passing through on the motorcycles, I made a rezy. We were not disappointed. The food was great. Everyone agreed the meals were amazing. The steaks were cooked perfectly. The prime rib was seasoned right. The seafood was prepared properly. The sides were great. Drinks were good. What a wonderful find! We arrived about 5:15 on a Tuesday eve and were seated right away -- the two bars look nice and we wouldn't have minded waiting there! They do take reservations. Our waiter, Sean, was outstanding and helped we 3 newcomers pick our drinks and food. The special, a tender filet seasoned with black pepper, was delicious, juicy, and full of flavor! The pan-fried walleye was the best thing ever! We will return and we will look for Sean! read more

This is a hidden gem in Lac Crosse - when you walk, it has that old supper club vibe that beckons you to order a Korbel Old Fashion to start the night! Definitely some old school supper club vibes here, in the best way. Make a reservation!!! We went on a Friday night and had the fish fry. It was so good and came with so much food! They have an entire list of fancy martinis. I had two of them and believe me when I say they were strong. We also started with the cheese curds and those were pretty good. I love Digger's but... Digger's is one of my favorite La Crosse restaurants - excellent service, ambience and the food is amazing. I would highly recommend. The one thing that has been disappointing during my last two visits is that they've changed the way they make their ice cream drinks, specifically the Brandy Alexander. They used to make it fresh and it would be large and creamy and absolutely incredible. Now, it seems they make them ahead of time and the end result is a not-creamy, very icy dessert that does not live up to what it once was. Please bring back the original! I would gladly pay a couple bucks more or wait longer for it to be served. Overall, I highly recommend Digger's! read more

Our server was kind and offered a free slice of turtle cheesecake for my boyfriend's birthday which was delicious as well. Overall, a cute little family owned place that could use a facelift. Our waiter was great, but that was it. My medium rare steak was raw with an excessively spicy exterior, veggies were cold and potatoes mediocre. The culmination however was a family coming in without a reservation and being rudely told no. Three staff sat and discussed it once they left as if " how dare they". Interestingly they had 6 empty tables that could seat 4 that remained empty for the following hour. Not sure who is in charge but???? Not at all what we expected. We were expecting so much more in terms of food quality but the staff being so rude and relishing in their superiority was disgraceful. Will likely not return and not ever recommend. read more

I have been coming to LaCrosse for thirty years, to fish, and for the fall colors. I have had the pleasure of dining in most of LaCrosse's fine dining establishments, and Digger's Sting is by far the best and most consistent. The service is great, and the food exceptional. The filet is better than anything I've had in Chicago or St Louis. I highly recommend Diggers. read more

The stuffed mushrooms with house-made giardiniera (served in a little old-school paper cup) are ridiculous. Then the meatballs. Listen carefully: these are the best meatballs we have ever had. Ever. Tender, moisty as hell, clearly packed with Parmesan or some kind of Italian wizardry. Absolutely absurd. Entrées like the Americano Bianco, chicken vodka parmesan, and the deeply comforting spaghetti alla vodka (find meatballs in this one) all deliver. We still haven't managed to catch the lasagna bolognese because it sells out every night -- apparently you need to arrive before about 6:30 if you want a fighting chance. And dessert? The banana pudding tiramisu is borderline illegal. Bonus detail: the playlist is also tippy tops -- banger after banger that has you swaying in your seat and singing along between bites. La Crosse: PLEASE support this place. Restaurants this creative and special do not show up in small towns very often. If we somehow lose this gem because people stuck with chain restaurants...
