    The dining room.

Excellent service and a great menu. We were staying at the Hotel. Just superb. Nothing else like it around. If you're in Stratford make sure to stay here and have dinner!

I booked a table for lunch for my parents' 69th anniversary and we had a great experience. Everyone treated my parents like celebrities. We had a table with a great view of the garden. The ambiance was calm and elegant. - white table clothes and soft music The wait staff was awesome. I want to particularly recognize Annie who gave back the extra $20 I inadvertently paid. She could have kept it and I would never have known. The food was great. My Mom particularly liked the leek soup. My Dad loved the chicken. The Salmon Nage was the most creative way I have ever enjoyed fish. The chef was really sweet - she came out to thank my parents for choosing them for their special day. After our meal, we walked through the garden to the river by the Festival Theatre. I would totally recommend The Bruce to anyone.

The best restaurant in Stratford Although the 5 course dinner prix fixe at $80 per person may be pricey, the better option for those who may want a cheaper alternative while not compromising in quality is go to the Lounge. Full menu but less expensive. Amazing quality!!! It is not As expensive as people are rating this....at least for the lounge! The chef is simply superb. The best cuisine /dinner I have experienced in southern Ontario do far. The dining Restaurant is open Thursday through Saturday as well as for Sunday brunch, while The Lounge is open seven days a week.

Nice setting and good service. But the food is not as good as earlier reviews indicate. Expensive, too.

Review Highlights - The Restaurant at the Bruce

The Bruce Hotel has very expensive rooms, but that shouldn't put off anyone considering the restaurant.

Booooring. Good service, typical boutique / tourist destination restaurant pricing (not cheap),…read moremostly small plate servings...but overall a disappointment. We ordered: blue crab hashbrowns (the only standout; would definitely order again, except that I won't likely return), salt roasted beets, brussel sprout caesar, scallops, and duck breast; then we both had creme brûlée and espresso. We tried the three white wines, one was a forgettable Chardonnay and the other two...were equally forgettable, notwithstanding being less common grapes. Only the duck was a main-size serving, and we only chose it because when we ordered there was only one order of scallops remaining (for a 5:30 seating!). I want to say "just as well" because the scallops and sauce were bland so we got to try something else...however the duck was not merely uninteresting but the red pepper sauce didn't complement and contributed nothing. The scallops were priced like a main but only four little guys on the plate, the one upside if we had both chosen them we'd have had room for another order of those crab hashbrowns. The beets were also dull, no idea why the word salt is in the name because it was absent from the dish. No tang to anything except the brussel Caesar. I've seen the brussel sprout restaurant renaissance of the last 10-15 years, this dish is pretty common now. This one was on a par with many others I've had but no improvement, and some might be put off: fully half the outer leaves are charred to the point of becoming a mouthful of ash. Not crispy, just dry ash. I guess that's different...and maybe this is the root of the problem. This restaurant makes a point of changing their menu constantly; not just seasonally, but weekly, even daily. So maybe they're just trying out stuff that pops into the chef's head. With the exception of the crab, every dish seemed to need something to make it interesting or appealing. The espresso was good, but the creme brûlée was another ill conceived concoction, with some kind of raspberry trifle thing on the bottom and the creme was a strange thick porridge-like texture and not quite the typical flavour. Last complaint: their self-description says Elevated Comfort. No. Mundane bistro look and ok seating, but that steep and poorly lit descent to the basement washrooms is the opposite of comfort. Hey, maybe we just picked the wrong items from their evolving experiment of a menu. The people are all nice, the service was good, and none of the food was bad...just meh.

Just one star off for the priciness, but otherwise really delicious, really pleasant environment,…read moreand a super helpful and friendly server. The French onion soup was really thick with cheese at the top, perhaps a bit too much so. The carrot salad was really pleasant to eat and felt healthy. The burger had a nice flavor and texture to it; the bun was a bit sweet, and the fries were tasty, but not super crisp though crisp enough, and a bit salty. The leek tartine was a bit monolithic, the leek being too oily and the bread a bit flat. It was overpriced by about $6 or $7 in my opinion. Wish there was as little more going for it. The crepes were decent; the nutella crepe was particularly sweet. For dessert, the roulé au chocolat was top notch, with a freshly whipped cream accompanying a sturdy and flavorful chocolate roll cake. Music was good too! All in all a good way to spend time eating and having a bite with friends and family prior to a show.

Our guy was on top of things, good descriptions and always there when we needed him. The food was yummy but not mind blowing. I loved that you could do half fries and half salad. The frite were soooo goooood and the garlic aioli was delightful. The rest was just good. I didn't think the "crispy" added a lot to the eggs benny but it was interesting to try. Nice place if you want to have a fancy little brunch before a play
