The hot tub exterior walls were removed so it's all open to the pool area now (for safety). Inner walls were constructed so the hot tub isn't part of the locker room/ shower area anymore. Bathing suit is required for the hot tubs. No more towels, you have to bring your own. The gym is more stripped down and basic feeling since the Y took over. No more broken water fountains, clogged sinks, gross showers. A lot less tvs on the cardio floor. The best thing about this Y is the open space. It never feels crowded anymore. I recently went to Paoli and their cardio floor is so packed and tight. Indoor track is still amazing as the 90s. 5 laps is a mile, it's the biggest indoor track I've ever seen. No one looks where they are going. That is my biggest annoyance. Teens walking with their faces buried in their phones.

Well, about 3 years ago, I found Planet Fitness. I liked it but quit because I qualified for Silver Sneakers and they did not take that membership. A few months ago they did, and I'm back! As I tried to untangle why I now go to this gym, even though I could go elsewhere more fancy for free, I arrived at the following reasons in order of importance to me: Planet Fitness is clean; it is light; it has an open floor plan; the layouts makes sense; there is plenty of parking; it has no hidden rooms; it has enough machines for everybody; people do not bother to look at you or to strike a conversation and I like that; I do not feel intimidated at this gym; it has no classes (I don't like classes because I cannot commit to a schedule); you can follow the 30 min. workout in zones that are already set up; it has plenty of TVs to watch over their own WiFi if that's your interest; you can charge your water (no cash needed); it's down the street from my two favorite stores: Lid'l and Home Depot. I completed a month of attending this gym four-five times per week and I have not stumbled upon any of my regular excuses why I do not want to work out! First for me in half a century!

I'm not gonna lie... it was FREEZING, but Jen talks you through the entire 3 minute process which kept me distracted from the cold. After, I felt energized and just amazing. When the camp director finally got back to me when I emailed her, she admitted that one of the kids could have accidentally put in their pocket and that the "punishment" wasn't appropriate. I wouldn't send my child to this camp again.
