Life-Changing Yoga Studio!…read more TrueBody has truly changed my life. After decades of searching for relief from chronic back pain following a long career in competitive gymnastics, I finally found success here! What initially drew me in was the instructors' incredible verbal cues--I was able to tap into my former athlete mindset, making each session deeply fulfilling. Since committing to these classes, I've become stronger, leaner, and, most importantly, pain-free. An unexpected bonus? My ability to stay calm in stressful situations has improved tremendously. The environment is laid-back and welcoming, with power yoga classes that are as intense as you choose to make them. I personally thrive on high-intensity workouts, but people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds feel right at home here, with plenty of options for modifications. Whether you're a highly trained athlete (or, like me, a formerly highly trained athlete) or an absolute beginner, I can't recommend TrueBody enough. This studio is a game-changer for anyone looking to improve strength, flexibility, and overall well-being!

The facilities are top-notch, with state-of-the-art equipment and pristine yoga studios that make every session a delight. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, always going the extra mile to ensure your fitness journey is fulfilling and enjoyable. What's that saying? "People say you don't know what you've got until it's gone."…read more Truth is, I knew what I had, I just never thought I'd lose it! After having traveled so much for the last few months, I was fortunate enough to come back just in time for their 4th open house. From 7am-12pm, it was a day of "free yoga, food and fun!" And honestly, what's better than practicing some hot yoga with one of the best yoga communities around?! Sure, I mean you might be profusely sweating on one another, but hey - who cares! It's not often that you get to practice with about 50 yogis! Open house aside, there really isn't anything close to what The Yoga Shop has, or is. The community, the hot yoga, the instructors - I can genuinely say that after having a year of experimenting and exploring other yoga studios in the Greater Hartford area, The Yoga Shop has it. Packages are moderately priced, your first class is always free, student/military discounts, and a $15 walk-in? It's certainly fair to say that TYS is agreeably priced. The only gripe I have is that it's a bit far to get to. During the after-work rush hour, it can easily take up to 15 minutes just to get to the studio from the off-ramp. So leave yourself a good 30 minutes just to get there and be comfortably situated. Whether you're looking for a heated, athletic and fast-paced yoga class or getting into yoga for the first time, TYS has something for everyone!

My yoga background / qualifications for this review: I have…read morebeen practicing yoga with increasing intensity for the past 2 years, close to completing my teacher training at SRY and just started teaching my own class at Central Rock. I have attended classes at 7-8 studios in the greater Hartford area, double that number including studios outside of CT. My proclivity is towards vigorous power classes aimed at intermediate students (on my scale "advanced" is contortionist level). The shop is not only the best yoga experience I've ever had, it's also the best establishment I've ever engaged with outside of my own parents business. It's so tempting to write a novel about how much I love this place but instead I'll just say that after moving from Indiana to Connecticut 3.5 years ago, the shop is the only place that makes me feel home again. Pros -the community / immediate sense of inclusion (opposed to the big-box WHY vibe) -Annie: business owner, instructor, life coach, role model -teaching style - all shop instructors have been taught in the signature "livefree power" styling -wide variety of classes -convenient class times -HEAT, hard to find non-bikram hot power classes -free first class to try -classes NEVER expire, I've never seen this at a studio before -classes are also transferable to friends -value, buying class cards during open house promotions ~$10 / class, very inexpensive for the area -constantly updated, modern, high BPM music, high quality sound system -beautiful space / ambiance -free cookies & tea everyday :) -Wednesday night power is just the best class ever -108 sun sals monthly Cons -location (coming from Bloomfield / weha) -I can understand from a beginner's perspective the community could be perceived as intimidating, as many students are life long practitioners -studio can be hard to spot, in an industrial mall -space does fill up (personally I've found this to also be a "pro" as it's a lot of fun to be in it together, but some may feel uncomfortable) -no showers :( -lobby / cubby space can be congested after popular classes

With a wide array of classes (Gentle, Beginner's, Moderate, Vigorous, Lunch Hour, and even Zumba)…read moreSamadhi Yoga Studio has a class for nearly everyone regardless of your level of practice. Although Samadhi's is some distance from the closest highway exit, it's easy to get to and is located in a spacious plaza with plenty of parking. Personally I prefer heated and very hot yoga. Though I find them fun and engaging, the only classes that provide that type of heat are the "vigorous" classes. All other classes are room temperature, so dress accordingly. Honestly, consider taking as many classes as you can. Find what challenges you. For first-timers and/or beginners, FRET not! There are a number of classes catered to your needs. Even though there are two separate bathrooms, there is no changing area for men or women. This can be annoying if you're coming straight from work. Also, there aren't any showers. So depending on how sweaty you get, keep that in mind if you are looking to attend their 545 or 6am classes before work. Otherwise, the staff and instructors are very pleasant and accommodating. Oh! They always seem to offer a Groupon to first-time students for a month of unlimited yoga classes for $40 (normally $115 value) so take a look into that if you haven't already.

As a lover of Bikram yoga (the 26 poses, the extreme heat, and the intensity), I was originally skeptical that I would like a more flowy, vibey style of yoga in a less heated environment. But, I went anyway, and I was nothing but thrilled to find a community of strong, encouraging [mostly] women. I have found my time at SWEAT to be energizing and rejuvenating. I lean on my practice to center and calm me. During COVID-19, it has been stressful not feeling fully in control of my routine. While we're all stuck at home, exercise seems pretty difficult--especially if going to a heated studio is your jam! Though SWEAT was initially closed at the outset of the pandemic (as they should be!), they found ways for us to practice safely remotely/digitally through online streaming classes. Then, they transitioned to outdoor practice in a park. Finally, the added in-studio pod/group programming with social distancing (and mask use and specific procedures in the lobby). I have been impressed with how the SWEAT team has adjusted to pandemic life. And I've always been impressed with their use of technology (they have the MindBody app, so you can buy class packs and schedule classes online or from the MindBody mobile app). I recently tried the Roll and Flow program (with Krystal) and the Weighted Flow program (with Susan)--both were excellent. Roll and Flow is all about using tiny balls to roll stress points in your body (there are scientific words involved... I don't know them... something about myofascial release...). It was quite relaxing and helpful! I definitely felt the release of muscle tension. Weighted Flow is all about using ~1 pound weighted balls throughout the yoga flow--you'd be surprised at how much two seemingly lightweight balls can buff you up in a couple weeks! It was a true workout in the best of ways. Next, I can't finish this review without mentioning the holiday sessions. Thanksgiving session was, by far, one of the best parts of my year last year. If I recall, it was a 90-minute session (right?! I love those... if it wasn't, it just felt like it!)--it featured Susan's epic rock playlist, Bon Jovi and all. And it had this togetherness feeling, all about being a part of a community, and getting somewhere with a shared sense of power. It energized me for the months to come, and I look back at that moment--and the empowerment that I felt that day--as encouragement sometimes. I was SO looking forward to this year's Thanksgiving session, but COVID is taking it away for now. Nevertheless, when we're back to normal, I can't wait for more of these special holiday programs. There aren't many other things I'd rather be doing than replenishing my soul with the inspiring words of the SWEAT instructors. On that note, it's apropos to mention that all of the instructors are fabulous, and they each have their own style. Krystal is uplifting with the meditations she brings to the practice--she makes you feel thoughtful in what you're doing. Susan is like a badass mom who makes you feel like a rockstar. Nicole is quirky and always brings light and joy to the room--she is great at pointing out the physicality of the work... what muscles, what sensations. Ben is helpful and all about betterment--he's a champ at suggesting adjustments and ways to deepen a pose. I couldn't recommend the SWEAT studio enough. Great crew, great vibe, great space!
