We arrived early prior our schedule and we were told by the associate to be in the dock 10 minutes prior boarding. It has a porta potty by the huge parking lot and were suggested to use it before going to the lake. Arriving earlier gave us half hour to enjoy the pedestrian walk path by the lake . A beautiful sight to behold. If only we have time, there is a walking trail along. The tour was enjoyable, our guide was amazing. The ride gave us the chance to explore the history behind this man made lake. We solved the relaxation we craved through this boat trip for this weekend. An enjoyable ride.

Lightly breaded and fried. Yummy. Did need salt but otherwise well made. Main was their burger. So good! Juicy and flavorful. The onion jam was delicious. Their wine selection is very good. Get the flight. It's a really good deal and you can try 3 different wines. Service was quick and food came out fast and hot. Others noted the prices a a little high but the food was really good.

Shortly after the completion of Lake Wallenpaupack (a man-made lake), local businessmen believed that tourists would come to see it and they raised funds to build a grand hotel known as the 'Hawley Community Hotel'. When the building was nearly finished, the stock market crashed and it sat empty for 20 years. It officially opened to the public in 1947 and went through several owners. It served as a nursing home, an inn, and even a private school. Since 1980, the inn has been owned and operated by hospitality experts Jeanne and Grant Genzlinger who dubbed it 'The Settlers Inn'. The on-site restaurant and Chestnut Tavern offer farm-to-table menus highlighting quality products of local farms and purveyors. Kate Woehrle is the current executive chef. The inn has been a member of Historic Hotels of America since 2010. My family and I recently visited The Settlers Inn while we were spending Memorial Day weekend in the Poconos. The timing of our visit coincided with their Memorial Day Brunch. The beautiful hotel had a spacious dining room that even featured live music from a piano player. To drink, I ordered the "Settlers Inn Bloody Mary" (blue cheese olives, alpine beef stick, aged cheddar, dilly beans, pepperoncini, celery). This was a great brunch cocktail! Our server brought us some delicious complimentary Brewer's Bread for the table. For the appetizer course, I had the "Smoked Trout Dip" and my wife had the "Black Pepper Ricotta Toast" (asparagus, cured egg yolk). We were both happy with our choices. For the entree course, I had the "Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict" (potato pancakes), my wife had the "Crispy Chicken Sammy" (coleslaw, brioche, roasted jalapeño aioli), and our son had the "Birthday Cake French Toast". Everything was excellent and tasted so fresh! For dessert, our server told us to help ourselves to the dessert table which featured fresh baked goods like cookies and cannoli. That being said, the overall look, atmosphere, and experience of the property definitely outweigh the food, and you can always head somewhere nearby for a better meal. The lighting is efficient and modern but not comforting. The splash pad is a fun idea but it is SO LOUD when it comes on, you can't hear anything at all. We adore this place deeply but do worry it's trying to be all things to all people all the time.

I don't know if Pennsylvania is cutting costs or testing faith levels, but the drive absolutely required prayer. That said, and this is important, that was the worst part of the entire experience. Once you arrive, it's like stepping into a completely different reality. Parking is plentiful, clearly marked, and right in front of the buildings (including handicap and short-term spots, which we love to see). The facilities themselves? Beautiful. Clean. Extremely well maintained. No "rustic surprise mold" vibes here. Each room has its own bathroom, a thermostat, and AC, which means you're not stuck freezing, sweating, or silently resenting whoever controls the temperature. Huge win. There's also a cute little fire pit (weather permitting), a gym/fitness center, and a dining hall tucked under another residence building that honestly deserves applause. Because let's talk about the food. 10/10. Retreat food is usually a gamble, but Spruce Lake did not come to play. AND, possibly my favorite detail, the beverage machines. Coffee, drinks, and cups you can reuse or grab-and-go, which means you can take your coffee with you like a civilized adult. In the same building, there's a gorgeous space to sit and relax, complete with multiple fireplaces that make you feel like you should be journaling or having a deep conversation. There's also a bookstore with beautiful religious items if you feel like browsing or taking something meaningful home. Staff were consistently polite, helpful, and clearly knew what they were doing, everything ran smoothly the entire stay. Final verdict: Yes, the commute tried to humble me. But once you're there? It's peaceful, comfortable, thoughtfully designed, and genuinely enjoyable. I had such a great experience that I'm already looking forward to my next visit. I opted for camping in a tent (my first time) and the meal plan (do not recommend). Mostly everything was great. The campsite was fairly easy to find I had a water hookup and an electricity hookup so I got to charge my phone. I set up my tent fairly easily and was happy about that. The nature was pretty, the camping site was great, the bathrooms and shower stalls were well maintained and clean. My family stayed in the rooms. The rooms are way more pricey and I heard a few church members complaining about the beds. I stayed in the room on my last night because my dad was worried about me going home with my son alone even though I would have been okay so he stayed past the point of my sisters going home and kept the room my sisters stayed in with him. My son got scared of camping on the last night so we ended up in my dad's room the last night, I didn't think it was so bad. This is a Christian Camp so if you aren't Christian be prepared for the Jesus. I'm not sure if they allow individual stays but I was with the church. They gave us a designated space for devotional time, we had two devotional sessions a day. I love Jesus and am a Christian so when I got here I was like oh so much of Jesus loves you, so much of God loves you and I loved it. But if you aren't Christian and book a camping trip here you may not like it, you may be surprised so I'm just specifying. Spruce Lake itself is on the small side, I got to check it out but I found the woods and campgrounds more impressive. They have a snack shop that's open for a few hours a day. The snack shop food was great. My son and I missed the snack shop the first few days but we got to go on Wednesday and Thursday. So the dining hall and meal plans. That's the one thing I wouldn't recommend. I opted for it because I didn't know how camping was going to be I wanted to try the tent thing first before I went gun-ho with bringing my own coolers and food. Next year I'm getting a stove and bringing all my coolers and my own food. I basically paid $100 for my kid to drink soda because he would not touch anything in the dining hall to eat during our stay. I had a lot of snacks for him, my family bought a lot of snacks for him as well and he ate fries at the snack shop so he was fed. Some of the meals were okay, some of the stuff was kind of awful. So everything about this resort except for the food was great and if my church comes back here again I'd like to go!

With much more rain predicted, we ran into a dilemma because the Comfort Inn is in a dire need of updates. This hotel had no USB plug in sights in the rooms. Since this is in every other hotel, we didn't bring our plugs, just the USB chords, which were of no use. Additionally, the bathrooms need to be cleaned better and are overdue for renovations. When we decided to check out very early Sunday morning, the clerk, instead of asking about how stay, quickly jumped to conclusions and retorted with an attitude that we cannot get a refund. We never asked for a refund, and we knew we would not get one, even though other hotels such as La Quinta have credited us in the past. But it was the attitude from the woman that was alarming. No care of how our stay was or if there was anything they could do better. The only words out of her mouth, "You can't get a refund," was spoken with a rude tone and was inexcusable to how to treat their guests, especially as it answered a question we didn't ask and truly had no intention of even asking about.

Make a reservation ahead of time to get your table and time. 4 The Activities (included in the price), check out their website, classes are listed ahead of time, and you should sign up for them before your stay. Here's the ones we did; kombucha making, painting, fire making ,yoga, birding, axe throwing, wine tasting, cooking demo, Bosu Ball, Zumba, live music, sleep therapy, veg garden lecture, wood working. There is also every exercise class imaginable. Chef samples and different types of non alcoholic drinks are always available in the common areas. 5. The Spa (not included in price), upscale clean, talented massage therapists We went in 2020 and 2023 and are planning to go back next year. 6. Other things to note; Guests are probably 80% women, mother daughter, women's weekend, things like this, not many men except couples. I recommend booking your activities spa and restaurant reservations ahead of time so you get the spots you want. This can all be done online. The Lodge is not cheap, but it is so well worth it!
