Our older daughter is now in the Spanish immersion primary program and regularly comes home speaking Spanish. More than the academics, we have watched her grow into a child who is genuinely confident and curious, which feels like exactly what a Montessori education promises. She is writing letters, doing math, and has formed deep bonds with her teachers and classmates. Many of her closest friends have been in her cohort since she was 18 months old. That continuity has given our family a real sense of community, not just a school. Our younger daughter is in the infant program, and the transition has been remarkably smooth. Communication from her teachers is daily and specific -- feeding, napping, schedule adjustments happen quickly and feel truly tailored to where she is developmentally. She jumps into her teachers' arms at drop off, and from my parent perspective is a big reassurance to me. You can tell she feels safe and loved. A special note on Sandy -- she is fantastic. On more than one occasion she has responded and accommodated requests on short notice (like extending our care hours), and she has made it happen every time. That kind of responsiveness is rare and means so much to working parents. We are grateful for this school and the people in it.

It all started in the winter of 2022, when we found out we'd be moving back to California. I was frantically searching for a preschool and hitting walls at every turn. I knew I wanted a Montessori-inspired approach, and I needed a school with room for both of my children. When I reached out to The Academy, they responded quickly and were so accommodating of the fact that we couldn't do an in-person tour. Kristine, who was the interim director at the time and has since become the director, did our tour over FaceTime and the moment it ended, I just knew. And the best part? It ended up being right down the road from the house we bought. If that doesn't scream meant to be, I don't know what does. My oldest started in the preschool class and my youngest in the young toddlers class. By the time my oldest graduated, he was more than ready for kindergarten and now the time has come for my youngest to do the same. I won't pretend I'm not going to cry on her last day. This school has been so much more than a preschool. It's been a place where I knew, without a doubt, that my children would be loved, protected, and given every opportunity to flourish. Every teacher we had was wonderful. The admin team consistently goes above and beyond for their families. Our previous preschool was a completely different experience. The constant staff turnover at this other school, meant our kids rarely had the same teacher twice, and it showed. The stability and consistency at The Academy has made all the difference. The teachers in the toddler classroom are so sweet and patient - Miss Monica and Miss Jayme. They are willing to work with whatever schedule you'd like to ease the children into the classroom. They are also very good at helping the children transition as many times this is their first place away from home. They have part time or full time schedules available. There is also an app and there are constant updates parents receive including lunch time, nap time, diapers and play time with pictures. I also love that there is a drive through drop off and pick up where the children are brought into school or out to the car. I'm a working mom and responsible for all the drop offs and pick ups and since my son attends another school, we don't have to get out of the car so this makes things much easier. The school also hosts some parent classes for free if you're interested. Cost wise for full time, it is on the higher end from what I've seen but it's cheaper than having a nanny which is what we had previously. I also believe it is reflected in the quality of care so it is worth it to me. I am happy we found this school and my son will be attending as well starting in a couple of weeks.

I went to a Catholic school in San Diego myself, and I chose not to send my kids to the school I attended. The vibe at St. James and the presence of true Catholic values can be felt the moment you walk through the door. What sets this school apart is the sense of community. You are not just a number here. Everyone has been welcoming and inviting, the teacher/student ratio is low, so every child gets personal attention to help them thrive with individual needs. The teachers and other SJA families care deeply about the kids. SJA has helped our kids grow both spiritually, academically, emotionally, physically and socially. They really educate the whole child. We have loved the families we have met through SJA. Not only are our children obtaining a great education, but they are learning to be good people with great morals and values in a safe and loving environment. It is beautiful to see the older grades connecting with the younger ones. During lunch time they play together, and the older kids sit with the younger ones during Friday mass. The students even have "school families" where kids throughout all different grade levels come together monthly to do activities. It creates a strong relationship and friendship between all the children on campus - the older kids help teach the little ones. SJA has been the best investment in our children's future. Yes 12 preschools in the area the moment they heard the words autism or on the spectrum, some never returned the call some would demand he had a full time aid some wouldn't even give us a tour and some just said no.
