Cycling is not my forte, and I don't always enjoy it, but the class at The Ride was different! I think it was the combination of the music and Aina's energy. She incorporated torso/arm movements and switched back and forth between left and right leg dominant, giving great cues. The bike was super stable, even with all the vigorous side to side movements- I was totally focused on pushing myself and moving to the music instead of being distracted from feeling little wobbles. We used dumbbells towards the end of class, and I wished it wasn't just for one song- It was a nice break and change up from all the hard leg work :) Stretching at the end of class felt good, and I saw some people doing extra stretching in a separate space outside of the cycling room. Booked a class here through classpass. Drove 20 mins to make it to the class just to see a 'class has been cancelled ' message being sent 15 mins prior to the class time. How come when customers cancel late or can't make it you have penalties and also we lose credit but there's nothing when you cancel the class? Your cancellation policy on classpass is $9 penalty for late cancellation(12 hrs) and $12 for no show also you loose the credit. You can do better, your customers plan their day around the classes and drove from distance to make it to class, set a higher standard than 15 mins on class cancellation for yourself similar to what you set for customer. I decided to give this place a try, despite the seriously concerning one star reviews. I am giving it 2 stars because the studio waiting area felt nice & comfy - there was even a puzzle to work on if you bow out of class early..... Inside the studio, though, it feels like a dungeon housing an EDM dance party. No windows, painted dark (black walls?), extremely loud dance music, & the lights get turned down extra low during the ride. This is a place where you may be barked at - to stay on the "right" (lead) foot. Nevermind if you're on pace - make sure you're ALSO leading with the correct foot so we all look the same. In my personal opinion I don't believe the instructor (Aina) wants you to have a personally fulfilling exercise experience, I think she wants you to entertain her, or at least that's how it could feel for some people. There were cues for a lot of head dips & movements that seemed irrelevant to our workout - but may have been visually appealing to an onlooker, such as the instructor. I was personally feeling OK keeping up....but when I heard her give (bark) repeated reminders (orders) to people who were out of step &/or at one point said told the whole class to "suck it up," amongst the numerous other unhelpful "encouragements" I felt sorry for anyone who may become a target & a little sad at imagining she believes this is how positive reinforcement should look. I won't be going back & I suggest you avoid this place if you are sensitive &/or just don't want to be a target to very harsh criticism. (Btw the music was SO loud that I felt it was damaging my hearing & the fact that they don't equip their bikes with baskets so that you can wear your own shoes isn't ideal in my opinion...what if your foot isn't made for their shoes?) read more

TLDR; instructor was cold and unmotivating, business did not honor BOGO offer and continues to try to charge my card to this day. When you hear the trope of gyms being difficult to cancel, this is that gym. This place offers group cycle classes and group HIIT classes. Business card and building indicates new clients can buy one month of services and get the second month free. *THIS WAS NOT ACCRUATE IN MY EXPERIENCE* I took one of the HIIT classes and had an alright experience. It was 30 minutes and just me and one other participant in what appeared to be a small garage with little ventilation. During the class the instructor had asked us both what we would do if we didn't have to work, and money was taken care of. The instructor didn't like my response and scoffed at me while appearing to favor the other participants response. I found this mildly off-putting but still enjoyed the quick convenient workout. I registered through MINDBODY for a month of the HIIT classes. I attended a couple more classes that month (each experience similar with the instructor seemingly not interested in engaging with me, even for small talk) and decided to do the free month and then call it quits. To my shock the gym changed me for the second month. The gym was very hard to get ahold of, I left several messages and emails that went unanswered - all requesting to cancel my membership and refund me for the second month. This process continued into the third month when they charged me again. I eventually looked up their class schedule and waited in the boutique gym to speak to the instructor prior to class and informed her I have been trying to cancel my membership and need to be refunded for the two months I was erroneously charged. She made a few clicks on the computer and then said it was taken care of. I confirmed TWICE that my account was cancelled and that I would be refunded both months and she said 'yes'. To my surprised 10 business days later, I only received ONE refund month and a charge for the following month. To this day the gym continues to try to charge my card, I had to dispute the transactions with my credit card company and put a stop payment for future transactions. I wish I had done the stop payment much sooner. The disputed charges were resolved in my favor, but the process took months. read more

I have been wanting to check out The Ride for a while but I don't live in East Lake. I went to a morning class with Aina and loved it. I really community the two ladies I road with as well. I felt very welcomed. Aina made sure I was situated on the bike and the ladies around me showed me what was up on the monitor. Class was challenging and I chose to have my name up on the monitor which was a nice check-in on occasion. I absolutely love the style/decor of the place and that meditation room seems so invited. If I could give a zero, I would! I don't typically leave reviews. I understand every business is reliant on reviews, as I own my own business, but I feel people should know what they are getting when they attend Aina's class. I showed up early as requested. Aina helped me with getting setup on the bike and when we realized my shoes wouldn't work she gave me a borrowed pair to wear. It all started great. Then she proceeded with the class and giving instructions. This was my first time attending her class and studio but I've been to many spin classes and have a peloton at home. She was persistent with us getting on her beat and if we couldn't get there to sit down. I didn't find that sitting down helped me get on the beat anymore than standing. She berated us the first half of the ride for not getting on her beat and used analogies of all kinds but the one that stuck with me was "I don't come to your house and tell you to fuck yourself by not taking off my shoes" It continued on so much so that I wanted to get off the bike and leave. I even teared up a little bit. I've never had a coach or a trainer act this way. I'm a competitive person and I'm not one to not try or to stop all together but she almost made me and the only reason I didn't is because I know they keep the door locked while in class and I didn't want to leave the studio unlocked and be responsible for anything that could happen. I will never return to this studio. You never know what people are dealing with and maybe she was having a bad day, but I was dealing with grief of my father's health that morning and I needed that class to get my brain straight. She ruined my whole morning and rest of the day. It's no wonder this class only was 3 points to purchase and that the room only had 3 other riders. I've only seen one other review where they had a similar experience, but that is enough for me. read more

Lovin' every minute of The Ride... except for those inevitable but fleeting few when I'm afraid I might pass out! They know how to structure a ride / workout here. Strength, endurance, rhythm, coordination - it's all here. (To say nothing of the range of emotions and physical experiences one can squeeze into 45 minutes.) I've been riding here regularly for months and haven't heard the same soundtrack twice. (It's like a gift-with-purchase to leave class with a couple of new songs to add to my own playlists.) The studio has one of the best design aesthetics of any "gym" in Seattle; it's clean, super-friendly -- oh, and the bikes, the bikes. The bikes are the best I've ever ridden. Aina is the best! I'm someone who has always hated spinning. As a runner, spinning was what you did when weather prevented running outside. And despite being a good runner, I am just awful at spinning. While that is still true, Aina turns something I absolutely hate into - dare I say it - something enjoyable. It starts with the music selection. It's awesome. And different every time. While you may not love every song (although I generally do), she doesn't get stuck with a single genre - she leverages her vast musical knowledge to put together a unique workout, and she makes the music a huge part of it. The goal is to modify resistance to always be in time with the beat, and so different BPM songs represent different things, like hills, or sprints, etc. Top that off with her attitude, and she'll get you going. It can sound cheesy, but she really does encourage you to give it your all. And what's awesome is it's still personal as while everyone stays in time together, it's up to each person to set the resistance to the highest they can while keeping the beat. Having been dragged to many different spinning studios before, this one I finally actually look forward to! read more

I rode 2 times with Aina Williams in January 2020 at The Ride. My first class with Aina had 3 people in the class, one new beginner, myself (who has taken spin classes in different cities for 10+ years) and someone who took her class often. Initially, in this first class, she put me with off with her comment "I have yet to see what you can do" as we started the ride. She told the new student to sit down on the bike during class. She lavished praise on the rider who was very experienced. At one point she told me I wasn't on the same page and because I slowed down for a minute I was upsetting the energy of the room. After class, I told her I don't appreciate instructors who bark at their students to make sure that was clear. Unfortunately, against my better judgement, I signed up for the $200 membership. My second ride with Aina was on January 9, 2020. There was 20+ people in this class including the other owner, Carrie. The front row was empty but I took a bike in the front row as the rest was full. For whatever reason, that night I couldn't keep the beat. She started in on me a few minutes into class, saying " it's not right, left, right, it's left, right, left"- count it out by tapping your handle bar "left, left, left" while she continued on this for one to two songs. Eventually, I stood up on the bike, and said "That is enough" and motioned for her to stop. Instead of respecting my boundaries, she continued to argue with me in front of the class. I got off the bike and left the room. As I was leaving the room, she said "Some people just like to give up, don't pay attention to that" and "we didn't need her anyway." In my many years of doing spin, yoga and Pilates, I've never walked out of a class in the middle of it. Carrie (the other owner) followed me out of the studio and said "Don't take it personally, this is just how she is. I suggest you write a letter". And I said, to whom? You are the other owner. She said the feedback would be better received if it was from me rather than from her and stated when she doesn't want Aina to focus on her she rides in the back of the room. I was shocked to hear this but it confirmed Aina is a bully who uses shame to control the room, and that is why her business partner rides in the back of the room. This experience reminds me how crucial teachers are, and how having a bad teacher can turn one off to an activity. I hesitated to write a Yelp review about this, but I feel it's important information for the Seattle community at large. As a long time member of the business community myself, I'm appalled this woman has been left to operate unchecked. Additionally, that same night, I told Carrie to cancel my membership and left a signed post-it note on their front desk before I left on 1/9/2020. On Feb 6, as I was looking at my statement, I noticed another second month re-occurring $218 charge. I have disputed the charge on my card. Their business is either extremely disorganized or it was done with ill intent. There are plenty of other great studios in Seattle with positive teachers who seek to encourage & challenge students without disrespecting their boundaries. Aina and Carrie have really created quite a gorgeous space and community! I love when you walk in and Aina introduced everyone to each other because you can tell this is more than just a place to sweat, which MY GOD YOU DO, but also a place to create community. In a city that is known for being so cold and freeze like, that drops away when you walk in the doors. Aina is the only teacher in the space still but her classes are energy packed, engaging, soulful and her play lists are on point! I'm recovering from knee surgery so this has given me a space to heal, get strong and I will adjust accordingly but her guidance also helps push me past where I *think* I can go, which has been so great for helping me feel strong in my body again, after so many years of feeling it crumble thanks to newly reconstructed knee. They put a lot of really wonderful touches in the space to make it feel like a place you can chill and chat after class too, vs running out the door to the next busy thing you need to do. Wonderful place with wonderful staff. I'm a longtime cyclist but was a first time spinner when I signed up. Aina was a great instructor and it didn't take long for me to get acclimated to the space and choreography. She strives to bring the best out of each and every student so don't get discouraged if she pushes you and you're not used to it. Carrie, Sonja, and Tommy are also great instructors and motivators. They're always helping and participating even when not teaching. I'll definitely be visiting again next I'm in Seattle. read more

The ride is an amazing place! It was my first time doing cycling and Aina was so welcoming and she goes over step by step on what you need to do. The class is so energetic and she goes along with the beat to the songs and it's the right amount of volume that motivates you do give it your all. I love that there is no judgement or pressure from anybody and Aina is very motivational during with her teaching. The inside is very tidy with plenty of locker space and changing rooms. I've been riding for over a decade across the country and Seattle is one of my favorite places to ride outside of home (SoCal native). I travel for business so I get the opportunity to try all the styles of indoor riding. Studio is very well designed with newer bikes tuned to metrics like cycleBar or flywheel. Alina is a good instructor and clearly an athlete but teaches to longtime riders at a moderate ride. If you are looking for either alignment cues or modifications because you are injured this isn't the place for you. I was surprised she didn't ask me about any injuries while setting me up (I've got a torn ACL and rotator cuff). If you are new to cycling it will take time to understand the "soul cycle cues". Ride is cued on RPM rather than Power combo (watts) and the only guidance is to be over 100. Some of the positions are hard on your joints if you aren't 100% healthy. I try not ride above 100 rpm because of my knee and any isolations I need to keep a strong back rather than hunched over as cued. First class is free, parking is street only and difficult for the early morning rides. For the drop in price I'll probably ride in more convenient location. read more

This is one of the best spin studios I have ever been to. I wish we had one in AZ! The bikes are fantastic, with actual gear settings in addition to a resistance knob.
