Okay wow. I about almost died in this place. The geodes and crystals are my personal heaven. Seriously. Every shelf I saw amazed me. I wanted everything. I could not decide what to get. I truly love all of these beautiful crystals and geodes... and other wonderful treasures. I personally buy them because of their beauty. I find them fascinating. Joe was so so so very helpful. We saw a shelf and it was like "but wait there's more!" It was insane. The prices are very fair as well especially because I actually paud a little more at different shops. I took quite a few treasures home with me and I will upload those photos separately with the prices. You can find a lot of different unique items. I will definetely come back for more of these. Joe knows his stuff too. He was explaining one of the crystals and its origin. He collects a lot of them as well. They also have a lot of crazy, cool, and awesome things. Their pets are quite different and exotic. They have clothing and fashion items. They have a black light room with super awesome finds. I can't even remember what else I saw in here because I was mesmorized by the crystals. It was so hard to choose only a few. Back in my day The Road Show was this too-cool-for-school punk rock store at The Shops at the Top, a weird upstairs mini-mall at the 12 Mile and Gratiot shopping center. The Shops at the Top never came close to leasing out all its storefronts but for years The Road Show was a mainstay. I often went there to loiter and pick up the free Fun tabloids, a precursor to Orbit, which was a precursor to Real Detroit. With no way out to Royal Oak, The Road Show was about the only place I could see this subculture. I rarely bought anything, an MC Escher shirt here, a weed pipe there, a Ministry t-shirt and one time a Dinosaur Jr. t-shirt for a tour I never experienced live. I was a young poseur still trying to iron out my identity and the Manic Paniced employees heaped scorn on me. It was a beautiful, formidable, awful place. Things changed a lot when The Road Show decamped to their own street level building years later. They now offer a lot more things for sale, but in trying to be a catch-all store for all things offbeat, they've lost a certain special something. You can now find Boomer friendly merch with Betty Boop, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and the Beatles alongside Siouxsie Sioux and Suicidal Tendencies. They have two poster rooms, one with black light, candles, knives, old school non-internet porn, smoking accessories- with recreational legalized in Michigan I don't even think they have to pretend they're strictly for tobacco, t-shirts, bobble heads and even pets. I'd probably avoid buying a lizard or a bunny here. It's hearsay but I've heard bad things about how well they care for animals. Bruce the original owner is still kicking, rocking a plexiglass face shield in the face of the pandemic. There's always plenty of employees milling about to help you, and without a whiff of the elitism of the old days. The old spikey haired brigade would probably shit seeing stuff with Marvel characters and Eminem peppering the place. They're paranoid about shoplifters, I think largely because they have so much stuff adolescents would like to swipe. Don't try it, kids. There was a viral video making the rounds recently of a young woman caught stuffing her backpack with merchandise. I wonder how she even made it into the sales floor with it. The Road Show currently closes at 6:45 which is just weird, but it's nice the place is still kinda off. After years of not passing through the doors here, I recently purchased a pocketknife, a Buddha figurine and some nice woven gloves here. A lot of stuff is a bit pricey here, you could likely find better deals on the Interwebs, but the knife and the gloves were pretty easy on the wallet, and the Buddha wasn't terribly outrageous. It's funny how I went from trying too hard to being comfortable in my own skin while The Road Show lost some focus and now tries too hard to be all things to all people but time changes all of us. It's no longer an event to go here and I rarely do but it's nice knowing The Road Show is still abiding, the original Hot Topic before there was Hot Topic. read more

Was looking for things to do when visiting Roseville this past weekend and saw this place on yelp and it looked so cool. My boyfriend and I visited and were honestly shocked at how badly some of their reptiles were kept. We have been to many reptile stores and other than the chains like petsmart, we have seen very few that keep their animals with such neglect. You would think being a small business, they would care more about their appearance to as least make it look like they have well taken care of animals. If you don't know how to properly house reptiles (most of the ones they carry should NOT be in enclosures with others (cohabbing), maybe you shouldn't be carrying reptiles. Not to mention one of their bearded dragons looked ill & was in an enclosure with numerous other beardies. I always expect so much more from small pet shops because you would think they genuinely love the animals they work with- but apparently this store doesn't. read more

today 4/29 I traveled 45 minutes to visit the road show to purchase a Tshirt I've been wanting and to look at the reptiles and left extremely uncomfortable and disrespected. Following someone around like they're going to steal because they're alone isn't a good look, I get that theft is a prevalent problem but not everyone is coming to steal because they look a certain way. Of course I'm going to act awkwardly when I have 5 people staring at me and following me around. I knew what I was coming in for but was going to look around to see if I wanted anything else, I felt so uncomfortable I did not end up doing so. Also, loudly talking about what retail stores do to thieves didn't help. It was obvious, which I'm sure is what the employees were going for but it made me feel even more uncomfortable It was a very upsetting experience for a store that I try to come and visit/support only so often due to it being far away from where I live. While I left with what I came for, I will not be coming back. Maybe engage with the quiet customers to see if they needed anything instead of following them around like they're a thief. Do better. Now seeing that you do this to a lot of people instead of being a shop that has good customer service. Learn some respect for people I regret buying from this establishment. read more

The comments in these reviews are insane. Yes they are a little paranoid about shoplifters, and im sure there's a very legit reason for that. It's a head shop (mostly) in Roseville. They've been in business for decades and have probably had thousands of things stolen. You need a bowl or anything for your 420 needs, come here. Other places in the area are awesome too, but you'll find anything and everything here. Very cool place to shop but every single time I've visited I get stalked like a hawk by their employees. Last time I was in the poster room for a couple minutes browsing and three separate employees came in to ask if I was doing okay. I AM IN LOVE. I am a frequent purchaser of crystals and stones, both for classes I teach, and for personal use, and I have to say that I have never found better quality or better prices than I have at The Road Show. My cousin took me in to have a look around and I will say that I was a bit skeptical at first. Known in the area as a "head shop", they carry a really wide variety of really interesting and wonderful things, from tapestries and salt lamps to pipes, hippie clothing and exotic pets. With such a variety of types of merchandise, I did not expect a great selection of stones. Boy was I wrong! Not only do they have the most affordable crystals and gems in the area, but they are of superior quality! I have rarely found a shop that knows the difference between turquoise and turquenite (a dyed form of howlite). They do! I have also not found a shop that carries more than just tiny chips of garnet (my birthstone) and usually at astronomical prices! They do! I purchased a large, facet-cut garnet for about $5, where most shops would charge that much for a chip 1/10th the size! Their amethyst selection is astounding and SO affordable! I just can't stop going in there! At the moment, they carry over 200 types of crystals and stones. I generally look for particular vibes from stones, using them for metaphysical purposes and things of that nature. What I love about The Road Show is that they have a very strong geological base of knowledge about the stones. They are intent on getting stones that are more rare or hard to find, as well as stones that are unique and interesting. The thing I like most is that they are not selling the stones from a metaphysical perspective. As a matter of fact, they seem to trust that you know what you are there to buy and why. If you want to have a conversation about the origins of a stone or the geological side of things, they are ready, willing and very knowledgeable. If you want to know they metaphysical properties, they have a list and a few books you can reference. I highly recommend The Road Show for their wide variety of beautiful and authentic crystals and stones, and for their wonderful customer service in that area of the shop. They have great deals on Himalayan salt lamps as well. Go pay them a visit! You won't be sorry. Everyone I have ever spoken with at the store has been kind, friendly and super helpful, apart from the older lady who rings you up at the end of your shopping. Talked to staff for over and hour. Left with a BD and a whole kit. Upon talking to other owners and breeders what they sold me was not correct. I called and expressed my concern and was told they stand behind what they told us. I asked I could come in and exchange the lights for something different and was told absolutely. Drove an hour to get there and they said sorry all says final. I would NEVER recommend this pet shop. Upon talking to others familiar with them they state I'm lucky to even have a healthy baby . Time will tell! had I used what we were given he wouldn't have made it through the night . I have passed the Road Show a zillion times. I had no idea what kind of business it was. I was talking with my brother about my daughters leopard geckos needing food and he told me to make a right turn and I ended up in the parking lot. I walked in and I saw clothing, animals, jewelry, etc. I didn't know where to begin. I really, truly loved this store until about 1am last night. Why would I be mad at a store that isn't open you ask? Because I bought a male rabbit that decided to pop out 6 babies. Obviously it was not properly sexed, which I find interesting due to Michigan laws regarding veterinary records for rabbits and ferrets in the state. They are some of the few animals required to been seen by a veterinarian before being sold, and I imagine the sex would be something any vet would have to include in their record. I did not plan on having a bunch of little infant rabbits running around and it has cost me about $30 already that was unexpected and unwanted, plus food and new cages for 6 rabbits in a few weeks after they are weaned. Not to mention the hassle of cleaning, rehoming, and the amount of stress I am going through right now. Oh, and I just placed an order on Amazon for $80 for a new cage for the boy rabbit as they were in the same cage because they should've been both boys. He's just kind of running around the room pooping on everything right now so that's fun. To be fair, I haven't called the store because I honestly don't know what they would do. Bringing it back isn't an option as I've had her for months and I love her and she can't be separated from her kits, so I can't just bring them in separately. I wish I could just have my money back since this $50 rabbit is about to cost me a few hundred bucks that I didn't plan for, but this store is super greedy so I know better. read more

I didn't know what to expect when I walked in the door. Is it a clothing place that sells animals? Is it an animal place that sells clothes? They have crystals and incense? Needless to say, The Road Show is an interesting visit. They're got a ton of cool art, lots of chakra/crystal healing, tons of clothes and backpacks, and yes, they have a pretty impressive reptile and exotic pet section. The staff is super friendly and really well informed. Joe helped myself and a friend through their insect and arachnid section, and we left very happy with a new tarantula and praying mantis! Even if you're not in the market for some black light art or a Sulcata tortoise, The Road Show is still definitely worth the visit. You won't regret wandering around for awhile! read more

Moved to Detroit four months ago and stumbled on this cool place by accident. I've been back weekly since and I never leave empty handed. My five year old daughter fell in love at first sight with a baby ball python they had for sale ( I wanted a bunny lol) so of course we had to have him and I must say he's the coolest easiest pet I've ever had. Yes, the employees are pretentious and I am definitely feeling my age when I go in, but my incense loving, nose ring needing, gemstone desiring needs are all met when I go there. They have such a wide variety of posters, jewelry, clothing, reptiles, smell good items, and more, it's easy to blow an hour here. Anyone like me who grew up on the East side knows the Road Show well. (Shops at the top anyone?) The new building is much larger.. and there's much more to see... but a lot of the old as well. For those without the benefit of being within walking distance, The Road Show is a Tobacco/Pet/"Culture" shop. They have a full "head" shop for all your smoking needs: glassware, pipe care, and a large selection of pipe tobaccos for hookahs and beyond. The Pet shop is great as ever - only place I can think of to see Emperor Scorpions under black lights! (In fact... the only place I can remember seeing a live scorpion ever). Beware: R.S. deals in exotic pets, so plan to pay exotic prices if you're going for the rarer ones. Much of the store is dedicated to clothing; shirts, skirts, jackets, accessories... you name it. Before Royal Oak had Funky 7, Roseville had the Road Show! (It was at the Road Show I purchased my first T shirt from mowing lawns back in the 90s... a House of Pain shirt. I'm so glad I'm over that.) I also recommend checking out the blacklight room, if they still have it. There's some charm in fuzzy blacklight posters... and that room is where you'll find it. (Undoubtedly they've have Led Zeppelin and Grateful Dead posters in there! Maybe even one of the wizard on the mountain...) Kitsch, strange, fundamentally useless but ultimately cool... I have been here about 6 times and each time it has been some of the worst customer service ever. I don't get it. I go since it is the closest place for certain Detroit style items, but no longer. I bought something for 8 bucks and since it was less than $10 they wanted to tack on 50 cents for a Credit/Debit transaction that costs them 20 cents to transact at most. It started with me noticing they take horrible care of their animals then it carried on to me realizing their staff is rude and when one of the workers is nice the other staff tends to treat them horribly. They have the best selection of bright hair color! Special Effects hair color lasts so much longer than its rivial Manic Panic. The Road Show also has a ton of stickers (hard to find bands), and handmade purses. A lot of people visit because its a local head shop too. Shelley, the owner's wife was extremely unpleasant . From the moment we walked in with my two sisters and my Mom she followed us around the store to the pet area and was clearly watching us .. . We drove 20 miles to come here. Unprofessional and extremely rude. Shelly should not be interacting with clients. Perhaps a bad day? However, then when it came time to check out she was super nasty ILL GET IT, ILL DO IT !! and swatted our hands away from the bracelets. My mom was going to buy us each one ... that was 4. She was super rude in her tone and made us ALL feel unwelcomed !! We put back several items we were gonna buy back on top of the bracelets because , she was so horrible . We will never come back... everything is behind cases and no touching signs everywhere . Just not comfortable. The young employees were very nice and helpful. I like the randomness of the things one can buy here, but I'm a random sort. There are animals to ogle and I love animals. There are big tortoises, snakes, lizards, fish, crabs etc. The jewelry, tees, hats, and bandanas are sweet too. It has a head shop vibe to be sure. I forgot one of the things I wanted to get, its not a big deal but I wanted to get a prezzie for a friend who wasn't able to get the weekend off to come with us to Detroit. Alas. So, checkout process is a little confusing. There is one dressing room though, so if you want to try something on, that's good. Prices seemed fair to average, you know, city prices. As it was, I got some cool earrings with angel wings (for the club, naturally), and a detroit t-shirt (I know, such a hipster move, but whatever..I'm helping the economy-what'd you do today?). ps. I'm visiting from out of town and this has been the neatest things thus far. It's a lot like Spencers, only they have quality pipes and smoking utensils. The clothing is overpriced, but really neat and fun to look at! The reptiles were a fun surprise. They said customers aren't supposed to hold them, but a girl there let us hold a gecko anyway :] their patches were higher quality than I wanted, not very punk haha. but my friend got a really nice little stone pipe, and I got a mismatched glass ear piece, 0g for $5. lot's of cool posters and tapestries. This is literally a place I have been going to since I was born, probably. I now bring my daughter here as well. She loves looking at all the unique animals and sometimes we get to pet them! All the staff there is super friendly, there's always someone near by to help when you need it. There's an 18+ room in the back which is like a mini smoke shop witch is sweet. All stuff sold here is of quality. Prices range from all over the place so you can get something for every budget!
