Had all of ingredients to be really good but failed. Upon entry the hostesses were not friendly nor seemed to care if we were there or not. The decor and vibe of the restaurant was well done. Updated and well decorated. The waitress seemed put out we were there, unfortunately she was training another waitress, continuing to train the same bad habits. We had to wait about 10 minutes between each visit she paid to our table. There were a few times I had to get her attention or find her because she kept walking by our table without stopping or acknowledging us. The food looked good and tasted...okay. My wife got pulled pork which was not fresh. It was obviously re-heated from a prior day. Had a weird aftertaste. The best things were the buffalo spring roll appetizer and the milkshakes. The waitress did discount our order due to our dissatisfaction with the food. This was good customer service. The dirty trays were never removed from our table. The trainee could've easily done this since she was hanging out at the bar talking for most of the time. This isn't necessarily her fault. This is a training and management issue. This place should be packed every day it's open. It was less than half full when we were there for dinner. This is probably due to the bad things we experienced. Management needs to step up. You're robbing yourselves, your employees, your owner and your community of something good. read more

**UPDATE: This review was posted for the Roadhouse located in Orange City, IA and NOT for this particular restaurant located in Vermilion, SD and which I have NOT yet been to. ** Not much for dining options in Orange City, IA these days. The two terrific places I'd normally recommend are both gone. Think of the Roadhouse as the new man standing and standing only because there isn't much else standing around it! Food is average to above average. Average selection of beer and wine. The service and staff are the weak links in the chain, and, ultimately, why I couldn't give this place a more than 'average' review. The 'bartenders' are anything but. I was a bartender and server for years. The female staff of this place are lazy and more interested in gossip than in their customers. The male members of the staff were busy throughout and seemed much more attentive to their job than worried about anything not related to it. Good for them! I wish one of the men here would have been my bartender rather than the two women who didn't know what Tabasco sauce is or the one who told me that they "just don't have a need to have it!" You're a bar/restaurant and you don't have a need for Tabasco sauce!? If it weren't so sad and true this would be comedic! Bottom line: I'd not go out of my way to come here again. I could recommend many other places to go to in or near this neck of the woods. The Roadhouse is doomed for failure on its current course of mediocrity in both food and service. It thrives now because there is not much else for competition. Once a new player arrives that offers excellent food, outstanding service and a truly welcoming atmosphere the Roadhouse is sure to find itself as a relic left in the dust rather than a prosperous and sought after place to satisfy even the most modest foodie. The food is great. Our party has had the pulled pork sandwich, a burger, fries, cheese balls, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy. The food was awesome. The small chicken fried steak is huge! It may not look the best on the outside but it is comfortable and clean. The wait staff is very friendly and knowledgeable! Try this place; the food made us come back again when we drove through here! We will definitely be back! read more

We grabbed a Groupon for this place and decided to give it a try. The groupon was for Mexican food, so I assumed it was a Mexican restaurant with a weird name. Nope. This is your typical greasy BBQ, burgers, huge menu type place. The Mexican menu is only offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As a vegetarian it was pretty difficult to find anything to eat that wasn't greasy and smothered with cheese. My "veggie pizza"a ultra thin crust was burnt and was in edible around the edge. Too bad, the one piece that I had was decent. The appetizers are decently priced but everything else on the menu seems to be $15+. Unusual for an ugly pink restaurant. The Roadhouse wasn't anything special. We won't be returning, even with a groupon. read more

Went for unlimited tacos. Not the best tacos ever, but if you're hungry enough, they are basically the cost of fast food tacos, and definitely better. Service was amazingly fast and friendly, margaritas were $2. Would easily come back again. read more

This place is actually pretty good. We go down on Wednesdays for the all you can eat wings (which also has all you can eat chicken strips and fries the same night). The wings are boneless wings, which isn't ideal as most people prefer bone-in - but the sauces are really good. They have this house hot-sauce that will melt the skin from your cheeks. Skip the Mexican food. Came here on a Thursday night and they had their special Mexican menu available. The salsa from the "nacho bar" was just canned stewed tomatoes with some chunks of onion floating in it. The burrito was flavorless too. The "enchilada" sauce it was smothered in was just pureed tomatoes. Gave up and sent it back and ordered the grilled steak tips. They were good but the accompanying garlic mashed potatoes and iceberg lettuce salad were forgettable. On second thought, maybe skip this place altogether. Good place for simple eats. Service isn't too great, but I know that coming in and I'm pretty okay with whatever. Personally I enjoy the another chicken or the Louisiana sandwich. Prices are okay, but it's a good place to break up the rotation of restaurants in vermillion. read more

Not good. You are better off with Dairy Queen. We got a prime rib Philly cheese steak. The beef was definitely not prime rib. Instead we got really chunky, dry, chewy roast beef. The coslaw that came with it was soupy and bland. Also my salad had rotten lettuce in it. The food made us sick afterwards. read more

This place is amazing! We were unsure about going here at first because the parking lot often looked empty. We finally got around to going with a friend and her boyfriend, and the food and service was amazing! Our waiter did a really good job checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed. The overall environment was great, we had a few families sitting in the same room as us and a couple of big groups in the next room, everyone in a really good mood. The food was great, my boyfriend and best friend highly recommend the 5 cheese-mac-n-cheese with chicken or shrimp, and I thought the roadkill was really good! Their fries are also killer! We waited an hour for our food which turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. The meat entrees were extremely small proportions and not as described on the menu. When I notified the server that my chicken tasted freezer burnt, she asked if I wanted another one. Um, no. Service was poor and the food was simply aweful.
