Ok, so we were in Vermillion for a family wedding and the grandkids all wanted to eat in different places. Searching Yelp for different options, we ran across Whimp's. Reviews were good so we headed down the road to Burbank! Good choice! Great burgers, delicious chicken , good soup! Really nice beer selection. And a little loaf of fresh warm bread! Rave reviews from our seven person group - plus it was fun! Great enthusiastic waitress plus a crowd of friendly people enjoying the evening. Definitely you should stop in. read more

All I've ever had here is the burger and fries. But they are excellent. My husband considers the burger to be in his top five, and he's had a lot of experience! ;-) It's old, but the bar up front is full of regulars. The only reason we've ever even been to Burbank. Good selection of potatoes: mushed, tater-tots, french fries, curly fries, ...well, see the photos of menu. We tried the curly fries and the tators and both were quite yummy. The cheese burger was good, too bad they only had American cheese. The perch was not great, maybe it was supposed to taste, well, muddy, its is after all a lake fish. The spicy chicken sandwich was good, not memorable, and I can't remember tasting much spiciness but it was a good piece of chicken. The cole slaw was a bit too mayonnaise-y for my taste but folk were ordering it up. Don't let your big city expectations of "if the wait person is not at my table when I snap my fingers I'm leaving" get in the way of you experiencing this small town local favorite. If you happen to enter the dining room through the bar and see the locals at the watering hole part of the restaurant then consider that the waitress might not have seen you. Nothing wrong with going up to her to let her know that your party is ready to order. This is a very small town, the folks are nice, they smile at you even when they don't know you and at Whimp's Place they could be a crappy restaurant since they are the only ones in Burbank but instead they do a nice job. There are two high chairs, about 4 booster chairs, and a few kino/other stuff machines in the bar section. Located across the street from the tall, shiny, silver storage silos. After a day on the river we stopped in to this "steakhouse" to check it out. Only steak cuts are sirloin and fillet mignon.....at a steakhouse? I went with the hamburger steak and baked potato, which was a pre-formed, frozen patty and tasted as such. On a good note, they have fried cauliflower, which few places do and they were very good. When I asked the bartender, Mrs. Fishback a women I've had bad experience with in the past as my P.E. teacher, told me it was right but when I looked at the menu it said $4.50 not $5.95: which I was charged. Coming back from a long trip on a Sunday, we were upset at the prospect of fast food. After a couple closed restaurants, we called Whimp's to see if they were open. "Open until 10!" We shot over here, and man, it was amazing. Super low prices, good service. We grabbed a frisco chicken and cordon bleu. Both were amazing. Potato salad was also great. read more

We tried Whimp's after moving to SE South Dakota and hearing many locals recommend the place. We went on a Thursday night which happens to be All You Can Eat Spaghetti night. While the noodles were a bit softer and blander than I prefer (not al dente by any means), the sauce, meatballs, and garlic bread were good, especially considering that this meal and the small salad that came with it cost less than $6.00. Others in our group had the broasted chicken, mushroom burger, and pot roast sandwhich. All of these were tasty and the portions. particularly with the sandwhich, were large. The rest of the menu provided typical diner fare although they seem to have a large selection of local fish including walleye and catfish. Beyond the good food and reasonable prices, I was most pleased with the ambiance. The wood paneling, the pheasant-themed art on the walls, and the cozy dining room left me with the impression that I was eating in a local's dining room. If you're looking for a quality meal, friendly staff, and a sense of the local area, Whimp's is a definite must visit. read more

Not one bar in Vermillion has Dish Network (they all have DirecTV), so if you need to catch a ballgame only available on Dish (for example the Pac12 Network), then this is the place to go. Food and drinks aren't very good, not bad though. read more

I heard that Whimp's had good all-you-can-eat spaghetti on Thursdays. The online menu said it was $5.75, but when we got there, it was actually $7.50. The server first took our salad order. Unfortunately, they only had iceberg lettuce, so I ordered cottage cheese. The spaghetti was mushy, and the meatballs were mushy. I couldn't finish eating it. read more

My husband and I have been going to Whimp's for 35 years.This was one of our favorite places in the USA to eat. Not anymore. The last 2 visits were not at all good. The owner died a few years ago and now the place isn't the same. We had terrible food, terrible service and a manager that argued with us when we voiced our concern that the scallops were over cooked. The prices continue to increase and the quality definitely has declined. When you pay $17 bucks for scallops you expect them to be worth the money. They were so hard that when my husband tried to cut 2 of them, they flew off the plate. When we mentioned this to the manager(or the young kid who asked how our meals were) he argued with my husband that that is how they are suppose to be. We have eaten them there for many, many years and they were never like this. We were the only ones in the seating area ordering food and it took 1 hour and 15 min. to get our meals. When I asked what was taking so long, I was told they were cleaning the fryer. Really, cleaning the fryer at 8:30 on a Sat. night when you are open until 10? No one communicated with us at all. They were out of loaves of bread and after asking twice they brought out 4 slices of white bread. The gave us 10 percent off the scallops. WOW a whole $1.70 for waiting over an hour for over cooked food. Sadly, we won't be going there ever again. We do not recommend this place to anyone. read more
