Other shops around town might give lip-service to safety protocols, (one shop only put on masks when they saw me at the door, and when I looked inside, they had their dogs running loose in the shop. I walked away), but the folks at Color Box don't play: they sanitize in and out, use gloves when appropriate, disinfect between each customer and greet customers outside. Even with all that, they still manage to make you feel well-cared for. Oh: they offer free touch-ups and trims, to keep you looking spiffy. Time to make my next appointment...

Lets just say, I was lucky to have any hair at all when she was finished. The mop on top was beyond damaged; breaking, tangled and burnt. Shawn agreed to consult and came up with a repair plan. Fast forward to 2021... Mick and Shawn have really stepped up to the challenges of covid. The shop is super clean, products are excellent, and I can't recommend the Color Box enough. She also gave me tips on how to style my hair and recommended products to use. Throughout my appointment we had nice conversation and I felt very comfortable. So we saw Heather Head. Let me say first off...this shop is really cute and the nautical theme well done. We had a little bit of a hard time finding it within the building but it's upstairs :) in the same building as the bagel place. So back to Heather. She was absolutely adorable. Fun, friendly, and just about a perfect match for him. She listened and was just great. He was thrilled to get a scented hot towel treatment. It was his first time at an actual barber shop and it was a very good experience for him. It was an hour drive for us but worth it. We made a day of it and had fun. Ship Shape is a very inclusive place with a mission to be a comfortable experience to everyone. This is actually how we got there, looking for a good place to go where my largely queer family can go without walking directly into obvious nasty biases. This isn't a great experience and I do my best to not expose people to it. There was only a welcoming friendly atmosphere, fun music, clean and pleasant environment and a lovely hair stylist. My kid was in heaven and now his sister is demanding to go next time! I definitely recommend giving Ship Shape a try. I know we will be back.

As I watched her work with her client, it seemed less like a haircut and more like a visit with a good friend. She was fast, friendly, and I found her work to be of the highest quality.
