I visited The Roe a few weeks ago and was immediately impressed by the atmosphere. It's a classy restaurant with affordable menu items. I thought it was cool that they have themed bathrooms, too. Food: Focaccia We received a good portion for the price ($5). Our waitress also provided oil to go with the focaccia, but I mostly dipped mine in the tomato sauce that came with the risotto balls. The focaccia tasted amazing! Risotto Balls We received three to four in total. They were a decent size and a light, tasty appetizer. Salmon Puttanesca I received a decent portion of salmon on top of the pasta and the dish itself arrived piping hot (go back and rewatch)! ‍ The seasoning used on the salmon didn't overpower the dish as a whole and the pasta had enough sauce to coat. 4 of us arrived around 1:00 on the Sunday during Memorial Day weekend. It was pretty quiet, with a few tables occupied. We chose to sit outside on the back deck, under the middle section which has a bar and covered seating. There are also 2 person tables along the edge for those who want sun. SERVICE: Emily was a wonderful server! She was attentive, friendly and very accommodating. She knew the menu well. FOOD: As this restaurant is also a butcher market, the quality of the meats is top notch. The roast beef and pastrami were fresh, flavorful and no gristle to stick between your teeth. The chicken salad was made perfectly, wonderful flavor on a flaky croissant. The wedge salad has a unique, light cilantro dressing. I prefer a more hearty tasting dressing like blue cheese, however, this is personal preference. The sandwiches are so full of meat, one can be easily split between 2 people. Price range is $14-16 for most sandwiches. BAR: The outdoor bar was not occupied, but it looked like a very good selection. The Chalk Hill chardonnay was an average pour, $13/glass. ATMOSPHERE: Inside decor is welcoming and very cool the way the bricks are integrated in the design. Outside is beautiful and clean. My only recommendation is to swap out the metal stools to seating that is more comfy. 6 months ago, this place was fantastic. Calamari appetizer and fried oysters were banging! My husband and I were regulars, staff knows us and always made sure we had a good time. I liked the Vegan 4 entree, which was always a surprise selection of 4 items picked daily by the chef. Very tasty. We got busy with school coming back and stopped by in November 2024. Menu had changed and not for the better. Fan favorites were gone and the replacements not as tasty. The staff was still welcoming and pleasant but seemed unsettled about the new menu. We had a couple of drinks, politely ate our appetizers and then left. We had food at home. Ambiance is still good; when they make a mistake with service, team always goes above and beyond to make it up; but we are not feeling the direction the new chef is taking. read more

I love trying out nice restaurants and will gladly pay the price for quality food, however, the food here is way overpriced for what you get. Half the pastas on the menu don't have meat (no side, or salad, or bread comes with it either.) One serving of pasta with cheese for almost $25 is wild. I even offered to pay extra to add chicken or something but no, they don't even allow you to add meat... so I paid an additional almost $20 for an appetizer of meatballs to go with it (4 large meatballs). So, I paid near $50 for average alfredo with dry meatballs.... It was also 30 degrees outside and they told us that we could only order a hamburger if we sat outside? read more

I have been here twice. Both times amazing! I am in love with their sea salt caramel chocolate soufflé dessert. My family really enjoyed their food. The small seasonal charcuterie board was delicious! Their in house made cheeses and salamis were exquisite. All the entrees I've had and tasted were also delicious. My niece loved their duck and it was her first time having it. I can't wait to go back again for the third time. Wish more restaurants like this in Monroe. Overall looking forward to returning and trying additional items on both the food and cocktail side. While service and cocktails were good, there were some minor issues with the kitchen that would keep it from a full five stars. We ordered one of the specials of the day (Smoked Brisket sandwich on amazing bread) which was great. Ordered the beef fat fries to go with the sandwich. The fries were clearly under cooked . . . all were floppy soft and a couple weren't cooked through. We also ordered the banana pudding and while it was great, and perhaps we're not keen on the whole banana pudding thing, but I'm not sure I find black bananas appealing whatsoever. Tell me if I'm wrong, and I'll adjust my perception, but being greeted with a healthy chunk of black banana on top just wasn't appealing to us. My wife and I decided to go after church this past Sunday. What a mistake. Extremely overpriced brunch buffet. Powdered eggs, cold sausage gravy and poor food choices made for a terrible dining experience. It would not have been worth the price even if the price per plate were cut in half. Additionally, the service was subpar while automatically charging a mind-blowing 20% gratuity. I work too hard for my money to pay for meals where I come home hungry. The young man waiting on us did a great job. We ordered the hotdog the beef barely soup the toasted ham and cheese and the fries. The hot dog itself has fine flavor. The Texas chili was not chili but a shredded chili flavored beef, they forgot the pimento cheese so it was delivered to me on the side after I asked about it.... It had nice flavor..... put all together there was still too much bun for the hot dog... they make a bun for a for dog that small. You might try that... the shredded beef was dry the bun was dry the pimento cheese didn't help the case..... I did order the mustard on the side.... Not sure that would have helped the cause..... We met some friends out for dinner on a Saturday evening at The Roe. It was our first time in. We were greeted warmly by the hostess, which is a huge plus in my book. We had a reservation, and they sat us right away. The decor and atmosphere in the restaurant was very nice! Dimly lit, soft colors, Big bar... very nice vibe. Our server was very personable. She walked us through the menu, took our drink order and recommended some starters and small plates. We had olives, sourdough bread with olive oil, and herb butter, and a nice Caesar salad! All was delicious. They have a pretty nice sized wine list. We ordered our entrées and enjoyed visiting with our friends. Our server came by several times to check on our drinks and water. We enjoyed our interaction with her. She brought our entrées: a salmon Caesar salad, a Smashburger with fries and the Brick Chicken that was big enough to split. Everything was delivered hot and tasting delicious. We really enjoyed our time at the restaurant, our service, and the food. In my opinion, all boxes were checked and I would definitely come again. We even had just enough room for dessert, persimmon and pear cobbler with the freshest homemade crust you can imagine, and a flourless chocolate cake with ice cream. It was a great evening, with food, atmosphere and friends. We will definitely come back. Located on the main drag of downtown Monroe it is not difficult to get to the Roe. They have a parking lot behind most of the buildings that aren't a terribly far walk from the restaurant. I loved the vibe of this place the decor was stunning and well done none of the tables were too small and all were well spaced. I am thoroughly impressed with this meal everything tasted fantastic and it was farm to table. You could taste how much the creator cared. We started with the fried oysters- so flavorful with multiple sauces on the plate to try, the provolone meatballs- wow I have never had a meatball like this before they were seasoned soooo well, the arugula salad- I think this was the only plate that wasn't for me it felt under dressed and the toppings weren't tossed in. The salad was huge so once tossed in it felt like it lacked. On special they had a shrimp bisque- nice fun take on the standard lobster or tomato. The shrimp was lovely, We had the Jack Pear-o- which was a spiced run cider drink, very good but I could only have one, the tea rose- which was a light and lovely gin drink, according to my friend the salmon- was cooked well and delicious, I had the scallops- which I was so so impressed with. They were cooked perfectly, the couscous was creamy and delicious, and the cranberry sauce really brightened the whole plate. For dessert we had the LARGEST gingerbread cake- that came with two slices with a later of spiced cream cheese frosting. Wow just wow it was so moist and hit all of the flavors without being overpowering. This is the best cake I have had to date. As for service our waitress Brandy very sweet and attentive she kept our drinks full and we never wanted for anything. She was a little confused when we asked for wine glasses for our sparking water and unrelated to service I was bummed the sparkling water came in such tiny bottles. In conclusion I think I just found my new date night spot. I was sooo impressed and loved how the chef put his heart into his food from daily specials of whatever inspired him and was in season to well balanced cocktails I was very happy with my meal. read more

Ive grown up in Georgia my whole life, and live in Atlanta/Buckhead for 5 years of it now and I can promise you this--I've rarely had a better meal or a better cocktail anywhere else in the city. Out of any well known cocktail spot in the city, I'd take the in-house made, local ingredient infused cocktails and meals at The Roe any day. Never had a bad meal here, never had a bad drink here. Continually blown away by this spot and always excited to come back and try what's new! It's a priority for me today to support restaurants who prioritize local goods, produce, and allow much of their service to be done in-house, and that's what you get with The Roe. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Monroe and was a loyal customer for over two years. However, recently they have changed their menu and I am extremely disappointed. Not only where our drinks very water down and the food is so salty. It was inedible. We saw the owner was in the restaurant, but yet when we complained and sent all the entrées back to the kitchen, he did not even have the audacity to come and see what was happening. What a nice surprise! We had the best lunch here today. We ordered Reubens, a Turkey, Bacon, Avocado Sandwich and a Roe Burger. All were delicious! The breads are made in house and the sandwiches are huge. Each comes with a side - house made chips, fries, or side salad. The space is beautiful! From the street, you walk into a specialty foods store with coffee, loaves of bread, croissants, and a wonderful butcher counter. Hard to give this a score since their cheese, pastries and ambiance is on-par with the trendy big-city restaurants but the lunch menu and the quality of my lunch was not up to expectations. The lunch menu is very spare with limited choices. Both my friend's and my own burgers were raw, even though she ordered hers medium and mine was supposed to be mid rare. There was this gross grilled pimento cheese added that was not on the description. We both asked for cheddar but got both. I personally hate pimento cheese and so would have preferred knowing my burger would have cheddar AND pimento. The service was excellent though. Final determination: go for the cheese and pastries, skip lunch. read more
