What an awesome little country Meat market located in Ball Group Ga right off 575 on Exit 27. I was looking for a few steaks to do a little grilling this weekend, so I made the short trip north a few exits to Wilkes Meat Market and so glad I did. For a small meat market they have every kind of cut and meat your looking for. Ribeye, NY Strip, even Tomahawk Steaks. And that's just the beginning.Pork Chops, Pork Butt, Ribs of all kinds and cuts, fresh thick bacon just to name a few. The butchers are awesome. If you ask, they can tell you how they cut it, why they cut it that way, and even custom cut any thing you want. Size and thickness is no problem. They even have a few asiles of grocery supplies including all the dry rubs and marinades you can think of. And the store clerks are just so country friendly. Also in the store is a small hot buffet of tasty selections for those on the go, which changes daily! Its definitely worth a stop in to check them out. read more

Wilkes did not disappoint. Beautiful marbling on their steaks and reasonably priced for the qualify offered. Thick, juicy pork chops that were full of flavor. All the rubs, sauces and marinades you could ever need to flavor your meal just the way you want. It's been months since I visited and I could have SWORN that I posted a review and loaded my photos - but they're missing. So . . . I'm redoing it. These guys are great. I was up here (Ballground) visiting Frankfurt Doner Meats to get my smoked pork chop fix after Patak's fire and on the way back my brother recommended that I stop here. So glad I did. The folks were friendly and the selection was huge. When I mentioned that I had to get going because I had a good little drive (nearly an hour back to Marietta), they were nice enough to volunteer a complimentary box with ice! They have hot food during breakfast and l lunch but I arrived too late for that. Lol. They also had a lot of fresh, locally grown vegetables and several aisles filled with sauces and other dry goods. Frankly, it's much more than a meat market. The butchers were all smiling and charming and were able to give me the backstory and lots of trivia and fun information about pretty much any piece of meat I pointed to in the case. I wound up purchasing some chuck eye steaks aka 'poor man ribeyes,' some ribeye steaks, a chuck roast, some boneless, skinless chicken breasts, a boston butt and two beautiful cabbages. The two ladies at checkout were also wonderful. They were so friendly they made me feel like I was back in my hometown 20 years ago. They even asked me if I needed help taking things to my car because we wound up having to sort of 'perch' the box with ice on the top rails of the shopping cart because it was too wide to fit in the cart. I told them not to worry about it, but once I got outside on the sidewalk, I started to re-think my decision because I realized that there's no angled / sloped area (like the ones you typically have for a wheelchair). So you have to just shove your shopping cart off this 5 / 6" concrete slab. I was just about to close my eyes and hope for the best when another customer hopped out of his pickup and said, "Hold up there, little lady." Then he grabbed the front end of my shopping cart and we lifted it, in tandem, and put it on the ground. Lol. Disaster averted. So the both the staff AND the customers are friendly. Lol. The place is too far from my house to make it a regular visit - but I highly recommend them and will definitely stop by when I'm in the area. Tip: It's not too far from Barrett Pkwy so even if you live off Barrett, I think it's worth the drive. The prices are on par or better than grocery store prices and the quality is about a million times better. read more

Best butcher, shop hands down, I have found outside 285. I was looking for short ribs which I found. The butcher that helped me was so helpful and took the time to understand how I was going to cook them making suggestions on how to cut. So walking by the enormous meat counter I saw a porterhouse steak I couldn't leave without. Cooked the porterhouse over the weekend and it exceeded my expectations and I only buy high quality meat. Woah... is what I said when I first walked in. Unlike the myriad of butcher shops I've seen, eaten at, walked in, worked at, picked up, dropped off, I was pleasantly surprised at the level of organization and cleanliness Wilkes showed. It's a very simple grocery like atmosphere, where the aisles have the popular grocery items (Dukes Mayo, Local made Chow Chow, onions, Old Bay and last but not at least Spice Rubs. Along the far wall are some restaurant cut meats for the public to purchase if they need a larger portion than what's offered in the butchers case. Whole loins, brisket, tenderloins, ribeyes, Pork Belly, and more. In the case it splits between six different categories. Seafood/ chicken / prepared ready to cook items/ chicken/ beef, and pork. All done very well. ( I used to cut neat for a while before I started being a chef) the notable extravagance would be the portrayal of the Tomahawk steak. Nary any sinew on the bone... I ordered some jalapeño poppers (weakness) and some pork sausage with feta and spinach. Can't wait to cook tonight on the grill. More notably before we walked in the store, the Ballground Business association awarded this shop the business of the month. It is not difficult to see why... This was a pleasant find and you can count on me being here a bit more often when we head into Ballground. read more

Not a youngster, I've been in a number of butcher shops in my time. In Canton, there are a couple of good ones, however, they fail in comparison to Wilkes. Best selection of virtually every kind & type of quality meat you could ever want. Their staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, making your shopping exceptional. They have groceries there, plus an amazing selection of bbq rubs and sauces. If you like to bbq - smoke meats, Wilkes is a haven for you unlike any other I've seen. We bought a ham from here for Christmas. I wanted a spiral ham but was too late. So my husband picked a smoked non-spiral ham. It was only smoked and it came raw and from Alabama. That ham was so yummy and so delicious that I will never get a spiral ham ever again. Thank God Wilkes exists and they order meat from local ranchers and not China. I was excited when this meat market came into my little town of Ballground. I spent $100 of dollars and on fresh meat since they opened. Today I after a year of coming in here Rebecca told me she couldn't accept my form of paymeant I been using since they opened. She refused my Apple Pay payment after I have done it for ever.
