HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!! CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE!! On 12-07-2009 my dad bought a recliner chair as a gift for my mom at The Room Place on 8027 S Cicero. Chair was lovely, However, my mom could not keep because she is elderly and uses a wheel chair. She could not close and lock the recliner using her own leg strength . So, she called your store and asked to reselect a new chair. Yes, they said when they came back in one of the sales clerks suggested a push button one for my mom witch made perfect since. Mom loved it. Everything was fine until she got stuck in the chair. The button that makes the chair recline was broken. After this we noticed that it wouldn't go up or down properly. We called the store, they sent out a technician. The technician said that the wires were torn and luckily we called when we did because it could have caused a FIRE. My mother was frightened by the fact that a chair could have set fire. So, she did not trust the chair anymore or want to risk a fire by no means. Even though customer service said that they would order a replacement part. My mother simply does not trust the chair and would not feel safe even after this replacement part comes in 8-10weeks. Because Of my mothers element she needs her recliner to be comfortable and safe, and to feel safe in it! My mother and I have called to speak with your customer service several times to approve a reselect for the malfunctioned chair. Customer service seems to only care that this is the second reselect and nothing else. The fact that my mother does not feel safe with this chair seems to be of NO concern to them. The calls have gotten more and more horrifying. Dealing with customer service is nothing short of a nightmare. (Reading the reviews online only rectified my experience with them) Speaking to agent after agent but no manager or supervisor will not come to the phone simply because they don't want to deal with the situation. Everyone I spoke with ( Daoe Kelton) only had to say that my mom has already reselected once. No one seems to care about the safety, and satisfaction, and the real Customer Service issue at hand. read more

I have been a customer with Harlem Furniture since the early nineties spending thousands of dollars on furniture. I recently purchased more furniture from The Room Place and had the worst experience. First off I spent fifteen hundred dollars on a leather sofa altogether four thousand on everything. And less than a year I had it the sofa is starting to crack on the pillows. And it is not from wear and tear because my family and I do not sit in the living room. The quality of the furniture is not what it use to be my old furniture is holding up much better than the new furniture I bought. I am now ready to bring my old furniture I had for 16 years back up from the basement because the new sofa look so trouble. My wife called customer service and was told there was nothing they can do for her and a very unprofessional tone. They were so cold and nonchalant when she address the issue she was having with the sofa. It took me to call them at least I got somewhat of a better response and I am not even the one that have the account it is my wife's account. I spoke with a Supervision name Stephanie who has been giving me the run around for four months. And the problem have yet to be resolved. Stephanie was suppose to provide the pillow and we were going to pay to have the repairs done which I feel we should not be responsible for but it seen like I was not getting anywhere until I told her we will do it. But we have not received the pillow as of yet. I will never refer anyone else to shop at this store. This has been the worst service I have ever experienced in my life with this company. I will try to make this long story short. I purchased furniture from the RoomPlace around this time last year on their zero APR program. Fast forward to a year later and I see a charge for almost $600 on my account that I am not sure where it came from. I call corporate and am told that I failed to pay my APR with in the 12 month. As a result I will be charged the interest that has accrued for a year. I am advice to pay off the thousand dollar balance that I/O and file a dispute in hopes that the company will forgive the interest that I accrued because the information was not disclosed at time of purchase. That dispute is denied. Bottom line this company will say anything to make a sale. They did not disclose this APR policy to me they only told me that it would end with in the year. If you choose to spend your money with them pay cash. Their staff is not well trained to do anything but make sales. They will not properly disclose any information in regards to what you are getting your self into. The reason that I know that other companies are different is because recently I accompanied my brother to value city furniture down the street and they disclosed to him their policy. I came here and purchased the black Catalina bunk beds for my kiddos. I was so pleased with Lilly my sales consultant, she answered all my questions. She also helped my daughter try out mattresses and pillows to make sure she was comfortable in what she was going to sleep in for a while. I was very pleased with the delivery process, in and out. Do not buy from this store!!! They have deceptive practices just to get a sale and then leave you high and dry with defective stuff. My wife and I recently purchased a marble table from them that was advertised as having "beauty, strength and durability." I will give them one thing, the table was very nice. So nice that my wife and I spent over $1,000 on the counter height set with four chairs. My wife made a point to ask the sales person if it would scratch or stain or anything like that and he adamantly stated that it would not. She mentioned that we have two small children and said no problem. That the table would last. Just in case we purchased the 5 year extended warranty. Fast forward about a week later and we start to notice all kinds of stains and discolorations on the marble. Nothing too obvious unless you look in the light but still very concerning considering it was supposed to be strong and durable. Some time passed (being busy parents) and we finally decide to email customer service because the stains keep appearing. The first question I ask is how do we clean the table without causing more stains. The representative's answer was literally "... if stone we do not know how to clean or maintain that type of material." I was dumbfounded. After pressing and asking a few more times she kept giving me the same answer. She doesn't know how to clean or maintain a product that her company sold to me for over $1000. After asking for her supervisor twice she finally tells me I have to call the customer service to talk to a supervisor. So now my wife spends upwards of two hours over the course of a few days trying to get someone to help us and she is basically told "too bad." They tell her we have to use coasters and place mats (which we always do) and that if we wanted to be 100% sure we should put a table cloth on it. Wait, so I'm supposed to buy a table cloth and put it on the marble table that I bought? So basically cover up something that is advertised as "beautiful." Finally I decide to go back to the store and talk to a manager there. Surely they would be more interested in helping their customers. Apparently not. After waiting some time for a manager to answer a page over the intercom the manager finally appears. I explain to him the situation and he basically pretends to understand and be sympathetic (after all, he owns a marble table and has the same problem at home), but its clear that he is just trying to get rid of me as fast as he can before any other customers hear about how we have been treated by their customer service so far. He begins to tell me about how sometimes moisture will stain their marble tables and that we need to keep any moisture off of it. I inform him that the sales person told us it would not stain and he has no answer for that. He says that they will only do a trade if the table is found to be defective. So I ask him if they have had any other issues with this particular table staining .He says no. So then I ask shouldnt that make this defective then since you haven't had any other issues with people wanting to return this table? Again, that panicked look and no answer. Eventually I realize that he will be absolutely no help as he passes me off to some other section of online customer service. He emails them and tells me they will call me and then rushes off before I can really say anything else. A few days later and their customer service calls me and leaves a voicemail on my phone stating that they basically already told my wife that there is nothing they can do and that's about it. Something about calling within 30 days of the damage but after the damage continued to happen my wife asked what they would be able to do and they again said there was nothing they could do. So after all this hassle and time wasted we are stuck with a $1000 set with a table that continues to show new stains every day. The person over the phone told my wife any product we might use to clean it or buff it would void the warranty even though the manager at the store told me to buy a marble cleaner. When I told him what the customer service lady told my wife he again was at a loss for words. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE. At the very least stay away from their marble pieces. At this point we just want to save other people from the hassle. Edit: After I was contacted about my horrible experience Jasmine was able to rectify my issue by offering me a one time replacement. I purchase a black leather couch from here and just last week the leather from between the 2 seat cushions has started to peal. I called guardian who handles their extended warranty and they stated that the peeling leather on my couch is not a covered problem because my service contract does not cover cushion separation. Who is talking about cushion separation?! Do not buy from this place, they're sales techniques and false promises of "everything is covered when you purchase our extended warranty" is a big fat lie. No Stars.... First of all my Sales rep Sucked every time choose something the only then she could say was ok you take that. I felt like she was so busy looking forward to her commission that she didn't even tend to the needs of the customer. Then she offers me a Head board for a kid's bed twice. Last I checked I was grown what was I supposed to do with that head board that I never picked out or wanted. Then she looks up items that I didn't want to purchase but I had to tell her to look up the items I did want to purchase. How messed up was this chick, yawning as if she was missing out on sleep, she definitely wasn't a good sales person. I also mentioned to her that I had an acct and instead of her looking up my information she ask me where I live then tells me that they can't deliver to my address. NEW FLASH slowness I just had a delivery 2 weeks prior I know they deliver to my address. Yesterday I was given a time frame for Delivery today instead of receiving a courtesy call letting me know that my delivery time was moved up. The Delivery guy calls and says are you at home cause I'm outside. How about NO because you're over 30 mins ahead of schedule and I have a job and can't just jump and leave because you're standing outside waiting on air. Then a customer Service Rep calls and says can I be home in 30 mins or we have to reschedule your time. She made NO sense to me at all because it's your fault for not calling and his fault for just showing up early. This is my last time shopping with these guys so they can get ready to cut my card up. NONE of them deserve a Dime of my money for this trouble. Purchased the Marquis Dining set in November. Had problems with the table, chairs and even the buffet. They corrected the buffet issue and some of the chair issues. But that dining room table is terrible. I purchased the insurance which should allow me to reselect another table. Even though the table is beautiful it is not functional. When you go to get it from the table it shakes. I tried to get this matter resolved but they keep giving me the run around. If I could give this company zero stars I would. I have experience thee worse customer service in my lifetime from this place. I had furniture set to be delivered on 4/25. After not hearing from anyone on 4/24, I decided to contact the store to check on my delivery time slot. I was told by the clerk that my furniture delivery date was pushed back to May 3rd. However, no one notified me of the change. I spoke with several managers expressing my frustration, and no one seemed to care. The sales associate who sold me the furniture was unapologetic and when I asked him WHY didn't he update me of the change,he stated verbatim "it's not my job to do that". I then contacted the the General Manager of the store, she displayed the same unapologetic attitude as her sales associates/managers. She had a nasty disposition and was unbothered by my frustration. She also informed me that, the information I was given for the May 3rd delivery date was inaccurate (again) and that my items were on back order until June 26th. Now, you would think she would empathize with me, considering I took off work for my delivery AND because we have a dinner party scheduled for this weekend... BUT nope, no apology, no empathy, and very little "let me fix this for you". I had to demand a refund on my delivery charge. She never offered it. I would strongly suggest NOT spending your money with such a company. I've been burned by them two times. I should have knew better. The insurance they try to sell each customer is fraudulent and the customer service reps sale you a ton of lies about it. DO NOT shop with the Room Place in Cicero. The GM is unbelievably rude, callus, and far removed from any issue you may have. She's not polite and I question upper management for allowing such a person to lead a store. This has been the worst furniture buying experience I've ever had! I ordered a 7 piece bedroom set and living room set. I asked the sales guy if I could order the couches 1 color and the chaise another and he said "not a problem". Almost 3 weeks later everything arrives. Everything is fine except my chaise is orange and not cream and the paint was chopped off of the headboard. The delivery guys were very patient with me (I understand it's not their fault). So they help me get in contact with Tom (manager) and Tom is very nice and apologetic. He says he's going to have me speak with someone so they can set up a date they can come and drop off the chaise and the headboard. We select Wednesday, the 8th. A day passes and my work schedule changes and I call The Room Place costumer service and ask if it's ok that I change it to the 7th instead which she tells me "not a problem" and confirm that they're bringing the headboard and cream chaise. Another 2 weeks later (today) and the delivery guys come at 8am WITH ONLY THE HEADBOARD! I try not to loose it because again, it's not their fault. I wait till 9am and speak to Sandra which informs me that the chaise isn't even available until Sat the 11th!! At this point I'm so frustrated that I could cry. There's nothing she can do except to apologize and transfer me to a "manager" I'm not sure who trains these employees but maybe corporate needs to take a look. The manager Christine basically tells me there's nothing they can do about it. I ask her why would you (room place) even give me the option of delivery today if the chaise wasn't even in the warehouse until Saturday ?!?! She says she doesn't know. Then she says "well I don't see any notes that you changed the date to today (Tuesday)... I tell her (in disbelief that she even said that) THEN WHY DID THEY BRING THE HEADBOARD SET TODAY??? Why would she even say that since the chaise was supposedly not even the warehouse until Saturday?? I tell her that I want a refund on the delivery charge (which is sad that I had to even bring that up, she, as a manger should have offered that right away) I honestly wanted to send everything back! What kind of business are they running???? It's like selling someone a brand new patio set then delivering that brand new patio set with 3 chairs and no umbrella, then telling them they have to wait almost a month to get the rest! I have my daughters birthday this sat which I explained to the manager and she tells me "we can try to get there early, like first deliver" so that's another thing I have to stress about! I never knew buying from The Room Place would be THIS stressful! It's completely unbelievable! I can't believe this company is still in business with such HORRIBLE service. Update 4/11/15- The Room Place came this morning at 9:30 to deliver my Chaise.... Guess what color it was. ORANGE!!! I spoke to Maria this morning for the warehouse who seemed not to want to let me speak to Christine. According to Maria, it's not the warehouses faults but the stores. I wished I'd checked reviews before coming to this store. My cousin told me that The Room Place had good furniture so I went. I picked a 3 piece living room set which came out to about $1500 with a 5 year warranty and taxes. I purchase the set Feb. 16 and the delivery was dated March 15 but the salesman Mr. Moore ensure me that I would get my furniture in about 1 - 2 weeks. I asked if I can just get the set on the show room floor but he said no. 2 weeks later, no call no show. I called back and he stated that the set was back ordered so I have to wait until March 11 - 15 for delivery. After a month of waiting my 3 piece set was finally delivered but I only received 2 pieces. Come to find out that my chair is backed ordered and won't be delivered until April 4. SO I waited a whole month for my furniture, only delivered 2 pieces and now I have to wait another 3 weeks for my chair. No one call and told me anything. The only calls I got was a delivery confirmation call and the guys calling to deliver the furniture. I had to call and find out that my chair was back ordered. I asked the manager, Jose, for a discount but I was only offered $50. After giving it sometime to think, after this long wait, I called back and asked for a full refund. He called back and offered the chair on the show room floor and the $50 discount. At this moment I still requested a full refund. Don't get me wrong, the furniture is nice and I like the set but this is bad business. I worked in Customer Service/Retail for 10+ years. Had an unpleasant experience at this location with a sales associate named Marco. I stopped into the location to discuss my concerns with the pricing of a sofa and ottoman set, recently purchased. There seemed to be a different (and slightly less expensive) furniture combination advertised online than what was offered to me in-store. Marco's explanation, I found to be insufficient as it completely negated the online (less expensive) pricing. When expressing my confusion with his explanation, Marco rudely silenced me with the request "would you just listen and let me finish?" It was a demeaning experience, reconciled by customer service, who confirmed that there was indeed a less expensive option available. Marco was mistaken. I wouldn't even know where to begin because as I type this I'm still on hold... I ordered nearly $5000 worth of furniture and was given a date of delivery. Two days prior to the delivery we were informed only a few pieces would be delivered . It was an inconvenience, because I would then be taking off two separate days from work to be present for delivery. I agreed to the delay in delivery for the other pieces. Fast forward another week. Now the DAY before (second) delivery we are being told one piece is not available for delivery but will be by Friday. Hmmm... Another day I have to miss work for fault on their part. I've been on hold trying to reach a DM to handle this/ to cancel the order and have them retrieve the other pieces they delivered in the set. I'm ready to purchase elsewhere. Will NEVER EVER return to this establishment. This matter is being handled in the worse way. When you come in everyone wants to help (I'm assuming they work off commission). Once that order is in... I then get a call from the sales rep saying a piece of my furniture is no longer being made which happens to be two days before I move in. Two days before!!!!!!!!!!! This was after being told multiple times it was in stoke and I had nothing to worry about come June 1st hahaha yeahhh right. Called multiple times and they said they're looking into it and will call me back (easy way off the phone). Needless to say, I never received a call back. As we speak I've been on hold with them for 21 mins now and they still have nothing to tell me. Horrible customer service I ever had. I bought a power recliner for my living room from the room place at 8027 south Cicero ave, Chicago IL 60652 at the end of December 2016. I spent over $4000 and I purchased the extended warranty but the power recliner has a broken motor. I called customer service over ten times and I went to the store over five times. After all that, I have to wait till June for someone to be sent to fix my recliner. I'm so disappointed. They are not to be trusted, and I am never coming back. Anyone who comes should expect and will receive only deception and lies. They will not help you in your home, you will be in your own. I implore anyone, who wants to save money and does not want to lose money, to go somewhere else. DO NOT COME HERE EVER. Look somewhere else for furniture because this place will deceive you! I am a long time customer of this location, and either they don't make furniture like before or I just got a defective one, I feel very disappointed and frustrated, with a purchase on 06/2014 at the Cicero location. I purchased 2 sofas, paid $3,546. on a set that the sales person said it was pure leather and very durable. On 03/2016 called the warranty Guardian, it took 3 weeks for someone to come inspect the sofas. the issue when we sit we feel and hear the springs pop up, and the leather fading and cracking the sofas look old, 15 days later we receive a letter that our claim is ineligible for coverage. It's crazy how you trust the sales person when they say all damages are covered make you feel a great relief. I am still waiting for help regarding this issue. read more

He said him and his wife went there and bought 2 rooms of furniture recently, he assured us the best deal the best selection and best value for our money. we went to the store in Merrillville,IN off of route 30 of of 65 south.We walked in, we liked what we saw. The salesman named Tose' was young but seemed to know his business as he said he'd been there since he was 18 and was now in his mid twenties.We decided to get two rooms,living room, bedroom. The furniture was black leather couch,love seat,recliner. The bedroom was black high gloss dresser, chest , two end tables black leather bed.They assured us that we would receive leather cleaner and conditioner for life which turned out to be a lie. The distributor closed its doors that provided the supplies that you had to go there to get, so then they had a sign up saying that they were discontinuing that part of the deal and you would have to get the cleaner and conditioner yourself.Then the veneer n one of our tables started to break off so I called a service ticket in and they never showed up or called us even to this date we never heard form them again after we bought the warranty. Then the leather got scratched, so I called to find out scratches aren't covered.Then came to find out that our structural warranty we ordered was not charged to us so we don't get it and after the sale was written and signed it could not be added.Very poor management,very poor customer relations,all around bad deal! If you can avoid this place if you are not a lawyer on a caffeine high, cause they try to slide stuff by you when they can. read more

CUSTOMERS BEWARE***The Room Place uses Penske as their carrier for delivery and repairs in which Penske hires thieves!!!! I had two visit from a repair person and the 1st assessed the damaged incorrectly so a 2nd repair team came out with slacks to repair a support leg that had broken underneath my bed. Although I took the broken piece into the store so they could actually see what needed to be replaced, I was told to contact customer service so they could send out a repair person. This took two visits because the 1st person came to assess the damage and then reported back to the store and/or warehouse and then the 2nd visit, a team of young guys came out with the wrong part & I refused to take another day off work for them to get it wrong again. In the midst of them trying to substitute the broken part, I erroneously left a valuable piece of jewelry out and it disappeared after they left. Needless to say, a police report was filed but, it's considered hearsay but, certainly this will happen again to another customer. Therefore, my warning to everyone, PLEASE "REMEMBER" to put your valuables away. read more

I purchased a mattress and box spring on 05/18/2017 at the Elston Ave. store my salesman seem nice. He said in order for the mattress 10 year warranty you have to buy the protection mattress pad which I did paid $250.00 for it. he never stated it was not returnable or exchange able. when I put it on the mattress my sheet were sliding off never slept on it had to put another mattress pad I purchased from target that works perfectly. I called 3 times finally spoke to a supervisor and was told no exchanges!!!! very bad customer service they tell you any problems just call us and when you do they turn you to customer service who does nothing. they are out only to make their commission and screw the customer. I will never return to any Room Place to purchase anything every again. I don't think they would like to be ripped off. I can say that I wouldnt get anything from the roomplace again. I went into the store and was financed to another company. I purchased a mattress set and a dresser. The item was delivered a few day later. When I received the items it wasnt what I ordered. The mattress wasnt the correct one and when the dresser was put together I was wondering what was takin the gentleman so long to just screw on some knobs. Afterwards he handed me the paper to sign (not saying to check my items)As I was going to check the drawers on of the drawers looked lilke some one spilled something in it and if you scrubbed your finger across that spot it felt really thin. Then the knob on the dresser was stripped so it just was spinning. So they had to come out 3times to exchange it cause the first deliver as I went to the window to catch the driver he was gone that quick, so i called customer service right away... I can say this I purchased my son a queen size bed from Value City furniture years ago and i swear to you his bed is in good shape. Yesterday we went into this location and was immediately welcomed. After walking around, Regina approached us with a warm greeting and asked us how she could be of assistance. I explained what we were looking for to meet the needs of our living space. Without hesitation, she jumped into action with my info. She came back to us with all the specs of what would work. We were torn between love seats but gave us all information on the pieces to help decide. At that point could not make up our minds of what we wanted,so we decide not to make a purchase at this time. Normally as you try to walk out the door the sales person always seems to charge at you, and harass you for not making the purchase. Not here, they were very pleasant as we left. On that note we returned today to make our purchase. Regina waiting at the front and approached us in a welcoming manner. She reviews all information on the pieces making sure we were comfortable in our purchase. Upon leaving our goodbyes were heart felt as family.
