We ordered our jasper mori fabric couch on 12/8 2024, and today is 5/1/2025 we STILL do not have a couch - this is after receiving FOUR separate emails notifying delays on top of delays. It's almost 5 months after our initial order date. Room & Board finally reached out last month to schedule a delivery date of 5/1 between 5-9pm. My fiance and I took off work to get home early, and was notified by the crew of ADDITIONAL delays. And at 10:30pm, we received our 4th calls of the day and was notified that our couch would NOT be delivered today.... The one star was for their customer service - they waived our delivery fee + a 10% discount. But honestly, at this point the couch better be van gogh art or something, because with a $3000 price point, 5 months wait sure ain't worth it. There are plenty of similar brands out there like Castlery and Joybird that offer similar quality products with ON TIME delivery. read more

I ordered a tv console on line from Room and and would give zero stars if that was an option. . The next day I called customer service to ask them for a certificate of insurance, and they were so rude and disagreeable that I ended up cancelling the order, Our very large, well known property management company manages many, large properties throughout the entire USA and gives us a simple name and address to be included as co-insurer on certificate of insurance, this is very commonly requested. I've never had a problem with this request EXCEPT with Room and Board. I have requested this from other stores and vendors numerous times in the past 10 years. iIt's never been a big deal except at Room And Board as they REQUIRE a special form just for them to complete. I offered to forward the email to them from our property management company, but that was not good enough for THEM as they need a special form just for them, but they have nothing to give to the customer! I called twice and got absolute horrible customer service and no help. I cancelled the order because if this is how difficult they are to deal with for a simple certificate of insurance that takes no more than a few minutes from other furniture stores, then they have a big problem!! If this is an example of their ridiculous NON customer service, then I can't imagine how they would act if there's any type of problem. Seriously... I don't want anything to do with them. Beware of a company that is so rigid you have to create a special form just for them, and that gives NO customer service or assistance, Run and go somewhere else..that's what I'm doing ....and will never set foot in their store or order from them again. read more

My review is strictly on the OUTLET side of the store- everyone that works that side (usually in a black fleece/T shirt) is friendly, not pushy. They have the knowledge about the regular price side of things and know their inventory well. And they're great about talking to you "all the things": shipping policy, final sale policy, all the things. I bought my bed from the outlet- it was $1800 (original price was $2800) + $100 white glove delivery, and it's usually within the next week. I've been searching for the perfect navy blue couch and The Outlet has had several options during my last few visits, but didn't work out for one reason or another (too long, not comfortable). PILLOW TALK Like walking past a Ferrari dealer, this place has lots of cool stuff.....for a price. I'd won a $100 gift card at a Yelp event here two summer ago and finally got around to using it. Previously, I'd expressed interest in an outdoor chair and table for my balcony but once I realized that'd set me back a solid $400 (dear god) I quickly switched gears. Yesterday I came here with one objective in mind: buy a pillow. Not caring too much about patterns, textures, or 'feng shui', a sales associate walked me past some collections and it wasn't long before I'd found TWO super awesome pillows to purchase. Of the pair, one was a monstrous 2' x 2' sheepskin body pillow that, well, Agnes from Despicable Me said it best: "IT'S SO FLUFFY!!" For $80, it wasn't a bad deal and it's loads of fun to....ahem, 'play with'. The other one was a more modest 1' x 1' that ran $99, which I felt was steep, but it looks hella cool. This leads me to an important point about Room & Board -- affordability is not among their strengths. Way back when I sought a small balcony table, I inquired about their cheaper products and was directed to a lightweight resin block (literally a plastic gray blob) that cost $135. Considering you could buy an entire dining room set for the same price at Ikea, I wasn't thrilled. A single unpadded deck chair ran upwards of $179. All of their furniture is made in the USA, which is nice, and everything comes pre-assembled. If you're not a Mechanical Engineering grad, then maybe you love avoiding the hassle of construction. Me? I enjoy putting together furniture, as opposed to getting stuff pre-built, which jacks up the cost considerably. So perhaps R&B sells high-end sh*t at a matching price, I can deal with that. Painfully slow checkout, now that's a different story. It took far longer to ring up my two (2) items than I spent picking them out. After what felt like a while, the sales associate politely asked me to wait while she tried a different register. No sweat, I'll sit down in this $1,850 chair and just chill for a hot minute. Twelve not-so-hot minutes later, she reemerged and got it to work. 75% of my time inside the store was spent twiddling my thumbs at the check-out counter.....hmmm...... Despite this snafu, they were very gracious hosts for the Yelp event a couple summers ago and the other associates I talked to were pleasant enough. Timeliness of customer service hit some speedbumps on this most recent visit and most of their product lines are outrageously expensive. Were it not for the $100 gift card, I wouldn't have come here. I want to like Room & Board, but it's tough for me to recommend them. The price level borders on exorbitant so very few of us can afford to shop here on the reg. Store's laid out nicely, employees are cool. It kills me to give these guys a mediocre rating, but processing a gift card shouldn't take a quarter hour, there's really no excuse for that. I'd say maybe stop in for a fluffy pillow or two, then bounce. read more

This is the only store in America where you cannot get phone help from the store. I will be moving on to a store that can help me on the phone from their store location. Walter e smith helped me on the phone to tell me what that had on the floor so I could come look at what I was interested in and not waste my time. I was able to look on the internet at the couches I was interested in based on what they had on the floor. I was able to do the same thing with crate and barrel, cb2, pottery barn and other high end stores. Don't waste your time with a store that employees cannot be bothered. No other store wants you to waste time and gas to travel to their stores to see what each one had. Utterly ridiculous. Also, have a function on your website that allows you to see the item on your website and see what stores you can look at to find the item. Pottery Barns website allows you to find the furniture you are interested in and find the store location to view it. You have now lost a customer! read more

We have now bought our dining room table/ chairs and outdoor dining set from R&B. A mix of their outlet and active items. We found our outdoor table top in the outlet section which was the perfect size... but needed to order special outdoor legs as they have a different coating. While the service left much to be desired (even after the associate was paged that assistance was needed in outlet area, we had to seek one out for ourselves), once we were helped by a gentleman, he promptly looked through inventory and was able to deliver both our combined purchase from regular store & outlet to our home within 5 days. Delivery was professional and on-time and they made it through a long winding hallway without a single scuff. Will be back! read more

Have bought several pieces from this location, but will be looking for another location/outlet as unless you are a middle aged woman here, you will not get any service. I'm an ethnic male, shopping alone and was ignored by everyone in the store. When I finally approached one associate she looked at me in surprise as if I was accosting her and flatly asked if I can be helped. Several associates greeted, approached and helped as I said the other clientele, which comprised of well dressed women, with an air I did not carry. If you don't fit the their demographic it is very obvious you will not be attended too. It's is subtle bias i deal with many times over in stores and need to remember in a pretentious place like this I need to look the part. The manager was called in and she was quick dismiss the behavior of her associate, disappointing as she had an opportunity to redirect the tone of their employees but it ma apparent they follow her incredibly dismissive and unhelpful behavior. read more

Color me unhappy. I bought a walnut bookcase with storage here about four years ago, for around $2500. It was perfect when first delivered. But that was then, and now it's not so perfect. The wood has changed color dramatically. In fact, it looks like four different kinds of wood were used in the construction. I've followed the instructions for caring for the wood R&B gave me. This problem with the wood has also plagued the $1000 walnut coffee table I bought at the R&B Ohio St. location, at about the same time. One section of the wood is so dark it looks like it was painted (it wasn't). I understand wood changes color as it ages. But I've never seen quality wood furniture that became four distinct colors as it aged. My pictures tell the story better than I can describe. When I redecorated four years ago, I decided to invest in quality furniture to achieve the mid-century look I wanted. Making an investment takes a leap of faith. Rude sales people! Was in the store over 20 mins, not one sales person would even acknowledge my existence or offer to help. A salesman in the outlet portion looked at me at least 3 times, saw me trying out chairs, sitting on couches, laying on a daybed - refused to even acknowledge me. Another sales lady, too busy fluffing pillows on a shelf. Another, head down, engrossed by her phone at the register. It takes very little to say "Hi, how are you today? I will check back with you in a minute after I get done helping these people, finishing this task, etc.". Honestly felt they size up people & make a determination on whether you have $$ to justify their effort. Felt like Pretty Woman. My boyfriend and I will be moving soon and decided to invest in a nice new custom sofa. We looked on the website to get an idea of the design we wanted and also requested to be mailed a few fabric swatches. The swatches came rather quickly and we soon began to make fabric decisions! We then decided to make an appointment at the Oak Brook location in order to get that 1:1 time with an associate. The appointment was easy to make, and it was nice to receive and email from the associate that would be helping us asking what designs we were interested in. The day of the appointment soon came and my band I were excited to get an in-person look / feel of the sofa's we had seen and loved online. Luckily they had every single sofa we liked displayed on the floor. Instantly, the associate, was super super helpful and beyond kind!!! She answered every question we had and literally went above and beyond. We left that day content and with a lot to think about. The next morning, we were set on the design we wanted.. The Reese. But then picked up two additional fabric swatches that we thought could be better, last minute... We decided we needed to go back in to see the fabric color as a larger scale vs. the small square that was sent to us. I called ahead and asked is the same associate was available to help us - she was :) We went in, and yet again, she was a pleasure. 5 yrs ago, I decided that I was "all that" like my friends with money. I decided to shop Room and Board for a bed. We had been sleeping on a 20 year old futon- yea- it was .. not right. The frame no longer flipped and I was afraid to see what the futon matress itself looked like. We found a bed on clearance for $650. Gulp! But I purchased and have been really happy for 5 years. I'm a princess! Right after Thanksgiving, my better half got out of bed anbd CRACK! the bed went down- and the cat narrowly escaped from under the bed with her life! MEOW.... I immediately called the 800 internet # and complained, They were great-I sent pictures, they called back with a service call # and promised that they would call the manufacturer and see if parts could be gotten. A week later, they called and we are getting a NEW BED FOR FREE! It won't be here for about a week, but hey, I don't mind! Update: They delivered the bed this week, right on time. Took the old one out, built the new one, aded extra screws and slats for support at my request, cleaned up after themselves, flipped the matress for me, left me tools so I could take bed apart if I needed, reminded me about the Dec 26th clearance sale, and vanished into the night. Yesterday I received notice of delivery time on Saturday. Today(day before delivery), I received notice that the furniture is damaged. I asked them to go ahead and deliver it so I could proceed with the movers and installers who were removing the old furniture it is replacing, and installers to replace equipment (computers, tv's, etc.) They refused to allow me to use the damaged furniture to proceed with the setup. Now I have to pay late cancellation for these movers and electronics installers and pay again for them to come a second time as well. I asked if they were willing to reimburse for the double set up charges, and of course they declined. I would have been happy to accept the damaged furniture and swap it out easily when they brought the new. And I would have saved significant costs. read more

We live an hour away from this location. Wanted to run home and measure for a piece we found in your outlet. The fact that there is no way for you to let us know if the piece is still there prior to making the hour drive back is a ridiculous policy. It is located on Butterfield Road across the street from Home Depot. Yet if your not paying attention you WILL miss it, as it blends in with the other commercial structures. The nice lady at West Elm told us where to find it. . . Once we got to Room & Board though, we were in love. I absolutely adore the modern look of their furniture. It is a little pricey but to my untrained eye, it looks like good stuff. I really loved a bamboo made set in the back. . .but the price love ratio is a couple steps apart. I am pushing for a Room & Board bedroom, my wife is still considering ArHaus. . .we shall see. read more

The best of the best. Almost all of our furniture in our house is from this store. Is it expensive? Yes. Does it last forever? Yes. My last experience with them was R&B delivering my daughter's bed. They were putting it together for me and the head delivery person looked at it and said "I am not happy with the quality." One of the rungs under the bed looked crooked to him (I would never have noticed). He immediately called and ordered us a new bed and offered to leave this bed until the new one arrived. That is hard to find quality control and service in this day and age. read more

This is a letter I wrote to the Customer Care folks at Room & Board once I realized my sofa was garbage. Stephanie: I just wanted to be sure we were on the same page about my total experience with Room & Board. Everyone has been very accommodating about getting my repaired chaise redelivered to me but no one has really taken the time to listen to exactly why I am ultimately displeased. I'm really disappointed that I have essentially paid $3000 for a new sofa that was manufactured by a craftsman incorrectly and now I am stuck with a repaired sofa that I could have easily purchased used, but made most likely correctly on Craigslist for a lot less money. Everyone has been really accommodating and I certainly appreciate that, but I was really hoping to have a "BRAND NEW" sofa that was perfect when delivered. I'm not wealthy by any means and this will be the third largest expenditure after my education and vehicles so the decision to purchase a new sofa to replace my previous sofa was pretty substantial for me which is why I worked so closely with Sarah with my decision and purchase. My buying experience with Sarah and Bob had been exemplary and the experience only turned sour after the delivery once I figured out the mistake. I haven't had ownership of this sofa for more than a month and this has really made me regret my purchase. I know Andy stated that the repair would be top-quality, but my faith in Room & Board quality has wavered since this is also what I was told about the construction of the sofa when I was considering it during the buying process. Since this repair affects the structure of the sofa, my biggest concern is the compromise of its integrity and engineering. I really don't want this chaise to fall apart a year down the line while sitting in it because a year prior, I purchased a defective sofa that was repaired. It's like buying a new Mercedes sedan with zero miles on the odometer and being sent a Mercedes sedan with no lights. It's no longer new and made for you because it now has to be dismantled and repaired and then hopefully pieced back together correctly. I understand that the holes for the legs come pre-threaded and are actually installed at the warehouse so it just boggles my mind that out of everyone involved with manufacturing, receiving, quality assurance/control, shipping and delivery, no one took notice of this or took the initiative to address it prior to my finally figuring this mistake out and bringing it to the attention of Sarah. There are a total of twelve legs on this sectional and they were put on by someone at the warehouse, but this person saw absolutely nothing wrong with one of the legs being installed in a totally different direction. I know this design has been selling for a few years so I can't imagine that my sectional is the first Chelsea that the employees at your warehouse have assembled. And again, now I am stuck with a "repaired" sofa instead of a "new" sofa. At this point, I just want this all to be done and over with. This furniture purchase is no longer fun and I am no longer excited about my "new" sectional. The delivery is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 27th between 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, but I am still canceling my weekend trip because I want this entire furniture debacle to be done and over with. If there are any issues with this Thursday delivery I want to make sure that my Saturday will be open to deal with it. Because of this tentative delivery, I now have to cancel the dinner I was hosting on Thursday which was supposed to take place in my home but I moved to a local restaurant because I no longer had enough seating for my guest. Again, I just want this all to be done and over with. It has stressed and exhausted me enough. Again, I certainly appreciate you taking time to contact me and attempting to repair my "new" sofa experience. When it comes down to quality contemporary furniture at a mid to upper price range it really comes down to Room and Board and a handful of competitors such as Crate and Barrel. We ordered a sofa and chair from there. The sales man was courteous enough to provide his time and recommendations on color and room lay out. Nothing more, nothing less. Having been in the sales business, my expectation of customer service at an establishment like this is much higher than that at an Ikea (no offense to Ikea fans). We really liked the sofa and decided to make the $3,000 investment. After waiting several weeks and following up (we called) with our sales rep, we finally received the sofa. We were happy with the product itself, however the sales rep never followed up on our experience post-sale. This left a bad impression on me. Since the purchase of this item, we have been to several other stores to fill up our condo. Crate and Barrel has been one which has far exceeded my expectation in terms of customer service. Although I don't expect to be tended to 24/7, it's definitely affirming that you have a quality sales team representing a company. From e-mails, calls and personalized mails to check up on our experience - Crate and Barrel has exceeded my expectations. (One email would have met my expectation). They have properly established customer relations and I will definitely buy from that company again. In summary, I would not buy from Room and Board again unless it was an end of year scratch and dent / floor sale. read more

Room and Board, you guys. Really, what's not to like? Its like a way high end Target that only sells furniture. Every thing is super nice, it's just you know everyone is going to have the exact same thing... there's not a lot of uniqueness to the pieces, but they are great so who cares. Love that they carry official reproductions of iconic mid-century pieces. I ended up placing my order for my bed online because I literally could not find anyone to help me on one occasion in the Fall... when the store had only one other car in the customer parking lot. So I just got my lovely new bed assembled, the parson's style canopy bed in iron. Love that is apparently manufacture in good ole Minnesota. Love that a lot of their stuff (certainly not all of it) is made domestically. The service at the Oak Brook location? Honestly, its a little meh. I have been in multiple times when nobody said a word to me, which is fine unless you actually need help. Last time, I raced from work to place a $4500 order (for bookcases for my company's offices) and arrived 30 minutes before closing. I know this is not a lot of time, but I walked by about 4 employees who did not say a word to me. And I basically knew exactly what I wanted. Finally, I was able to seek out someone (Winnie) who ended up being fantastic. My confusion? Why couldn't one of the first four people have broken from their activities and conversations to say hi? Winnie had actually helped me 8 years ago when I bought a pair of Gigi chairs for my living room. She was still great to work with. Just tonight I went in and there was a point where I again could not find a single soul anywhere. Finally, a very pleasant lady stopped steaming a duvet to talk to me. She was nice but I ended up walking by her 3 times and finally stopping right behind her like and "aheming" like a crazy person. Conclusion? Great that there is a showroom for you to visit, but don't expect a lot of great service at this location... unless you go when Winnie is working. read more

Decided to go the suburban store instead of deal with downtown store/parking/tourists. Great decision. Didn't take long to get there and they had all the couches we wanted to look at. We also were charged the suburban tax rate, which I think is 3% less than Chicago's -- even though the furniture was getting delivered to our Chicago address. They're not paid on commission and that's really obvious here when you compare to some rat hole like Macy's (don't buy from Macys! Very expensive, non-interesting and lower quality furniture - also dealt with an unethical sales person last time. I have a longer rant on yelp if you want to learn more about that experience/check that out). I also want to support a company that is almost all American-made and takes care of its sales people. Had the pleasure of working with Jackie K. there. I dislike shopping and I'm an "in and outer". She knew how to talk to me about what I wanted and was very knowledgable, efficient, pleasant and just a good human to buy furniture from. No malarky here. Just people who know a lot about furniture and know how to find you the piece you want. I quickly landed on the piece I bought that day and am having delivered in 6 days. Delivery is just $89 and no extra charge because we're on the 3rd floor, like other companies usually charge. I'm very pleased with the whole experience and so is the boyfriend. We drove home like "wow, that was a really nice experience". The only thing I mentioned is I didn't see any sales (Veteran's Day weekend, which I think is usually a big furniture holiday) and I don't think that's their shtick. Which is fine. We've spent onwards of $8K at Room and Board, and will never spend another cent at this furniture store. We have had a total of 3 delivery screw ups over four attempts. How can you charge such a hefty price per product and have ZERO quality control? This only results in diminution of brand. It's a shame, because we would have otherwise spent onwards of $20K furnishing a brand new house. Issue 1: We purchased a media console and desk and the media console had a crack in the top. Issue 2: We purchased a dining table and four chairs. The dining table was 1) the wrong size, 2) inoperable (device that opened for the leaf was broken), 2) scratched on the top. One of the chairs was scratched. Issue 3: They failed to meet their delivery date due to their vendor relations. The fact of the matter is, while their delivery personnel are great, their supplier is horrible and you cannot count on a quality product, despite the expense. read more

Once upon a time there was a dining room set. A chest, a sideboard, and a table and chairs. The chest thrived, the sideboard from the front was stellar but got a (shall I say) crack in the back from a not so gentle run in with a delivery truck, each chair was less comfortable than an electric chair (from what I hear), and the table ... uh, the table could no longer take the stress of entertaining. The how-to of matching ye olde dining room set to a new table and chairs seemed easy; that's what they told me at Room & Board. So, I went there with the greatest hopes and intentions only to find that swatch samples cost $$$ and the prices were so high that I probably could have bought an entire dining room set for the cost of the table I had fallen in love with. Having found that the table was custom from Pennsylvania I hoped to perhaps connect with a group of Amish folks in origin to get a better deal. It's too bad that love, sometimes, comes at such a high price. And having seen four upholstered chairs to go with that table in awesome fabric perfect for the house was icing on the cake. But, alas, the cost of four chairs was more than the table. Maybe I should get out my Craftsmen tools and simply make a set. Make no mistake, the folks at Room & Board were very nice and they have lovely quality furniture; but dang, couldn't they have been "On Board" of the Labor Day Sales wagon. We've been searching high and low for the perfect crib for our first child. What's been the most important to us is a solid hardwood (no pine, no veneers, no MDF), American made crib that will grow with our baby. Let me tell you that this is a pretty tall order these days. If you want something of quality, you're going to have to shell out a pretty penny for it, and cribs are no exception. We came across the Nest crib from Room & Board, which fit our criteria and was on the cheaper side of the category (by cheap, I mean that we shelled out just under a grand for it...yikes). Room & Board's customer service is amazing. Chris, the sales guy that we originally talked to, was extremely helpful in showing us the crib and telling us about its maker and features. He also explained to us the difference in finishes and helped us settle on the finish that would most closely match our existing baby furniture (an antique dresser). When we came to pick up the crib, we arrived 10 minutes after the warehouse closed (darn afternoon traffic), and in spite of this, a nice gentleman was kind enough to go into the warehouse and find it for us so that we didn't have to make the hour trek back the following week. Room and Board pays attention to the details, whether it's the craftsmanship of the pieces they sell to the knowledgeable attentive staff doing the selling. We will most certainly keep them in mind the next time we need a piece of furniture. read more

Large selection of everything you might need to make your house/apartment/condo a home! Everything is well organized and set up to just draw you in. I like how you can obviously tell where the different room type sections begin and end, but the layout of the building does seem a little bit like a maze. Everyone was very friendly- the service was just great! Each of the associates were very helpful and had a vast knowledge of the different decorating styles and product types. I would say that quite a bit of the items are overpriced, so definitely take that into consideration. read more

There is a plethora of things I looooovvvveeee about Room and Board, but since I don't feel you need to spend half an hour reading this review (and I have a bit of ADD) I will just keep it down to a few: -Their style is chic without being stuffy and modern without that unwelcomed, sterile feeling that I HATE. -They emphasize clean lines and simplicity which is a plus in my book!! -Everyone I know who has purchased furniture here has been really happy with the process and the product -The staff was super friendly when I walked in and bashfully asked if they offered gift cards for my sister and brother-in-law who are currently in the fun (and occasionally tedious) process of decorating their new Glen Ellyn home. -Also (and for a pretty hefty price) you can custom make your very own furniture with them :) The only thing I am not too crazy about is the cost. I mean, Holy Moley, I've had to double take when I have looked at some price tags!!! If you decide to purchase something here, I would make sure you really think about it and want it...this is not the place for impulse purchases, but, if you are like me, and on a slightly tighter budget, this is still a fun shop to walk around and dream about that future swanky condo in downtown Chicago ;) read more

There's a lot to look at here. The store is large and well laid out with multiple vignettes of living room set-ups, bedrooms and dining rooms. The furniture has clean, modern lines -- nothing frilly or faux Victorian. Wood pieces are good quality and are customizable with choices of finishes and hardware. We've had a couple of pieces for several years and they have held up really well. The finish still looks like new. A nice touch -- the company lists where the furniture is made, such as North Dakota or Vermont. Upholstered pieces often give a nod to mid-century modern style and there are also comfortable sectionals and leather chairs and accessories. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, offering to help without being pushy. The clean, classy women's restroom makes my Best Pit Stops list. It's so cool someone could live there. It has great tile, artwork and furniture including a chest of drawers with a baby changing table. read more

Room and Board is incredible! My family has always purchased from them for years and I thought I would follow the tradition when I bought my first place. It was the best decision I ever made! After five years my couch cushion cores were starting to sag so I called expecting to pay for new cores. However R&B replaced them for free and acknowledged other people having similar issues and mentioned how they changed the material so it won't happen again. AMAZING! But it only gets better. I recently bought a bed from R&B and it was delivered and installed perfectly. They even took my old bed to donate. Well when I laid down to enjoy the bed and watch tv, I noticed my super fancy $250 remote control's monitor was smashed (Yes I have $250 remote control and it is worth every penny). I should not have left it in the room, but I mentioned it on a survey they sent and they are replacing the remote! We love your customer service! Far too often while shopping you are ignored, or have difficulty finding a representative in other stores. I love that R&B has people there who are eager to help AND knowledgable about the products. Keep it up! I have bought from Room & Board once before, but this was my first R&B delivery. Of all the furniture deliveries I've received over the years, this was by far the best! Communication from beginning to end was an A+. Love the level of service we received! Courtney was so helpful in finding the specific material we were looking to use on our Hoffman bed. At first the fabric appeared to be discontinued, but after researching further she was able to get it for us. We love the durability and look of this material on our bed! After purchasing the bed I later reviewed my receipt and 'thought' I had selected the wrong leg color for the bed. The color names of the stains aren't quite what you would expect for the in-person appearence. I called the Oak Brook store to confirm with Courtney, but she was not in. However, Laurie who took my call was kind enough to take photos on her phone and email them to me with good descriptions. Wow! Talk about going above and beyond! Because of this level of support it all worked out and we got the right leg color. Ken, (and partner who's name I'm not remembering) delivered our bed on time and called ahead before delivering. They were super friendly and shared some good care tips for our new bed. With all this great customer service we will certainly consider Room & Board for our next furniture purchase! I absolutely love their furniture and how everything is displayed and the staging of their furniture. The displays are not over cluttered and truly look like a living room or dining room that you would have in your house. The furniture is modern, sleek and very good quality. As I was looking I noticed that several pieces of furniture were made in the Midwest. How nice to see quality furniture made in the USA. I've been a fan of this store for many years, but I never purchased January of this year (2009). I purchased a Parsons glass desk for my office, which I love. Then I purchased a Chocolate leather Townsend sofa and love seat with matching ottoman as well as a beautiful parsons covered granite end table. This past weekend I decided I needed some outdoor furniture so I purchased these modern adorandack chairs made from recycled milk caps. They're brown, comfortable, swanky and all season weather proof. The service at this store is outstanding. I have a sales gal, Tonia, who goes out of her way to make sure I'm happy. But... it's not just Tonia who's helpful. I've had many others step in and make sure I've enjoyed my purchase. What a great store. I just wish they had some sales once in awhile. read more

My husband, child and I went to the Oakbrook, IL store on 4th of July weekend. We had been trying to decide which R&B table to buy and wanted to see the floor models to help us make a decision. The showroom is great. There are many items on display and the vignettes well done. Unfortunately, the customer service was shockingly bad, not what I've come to expect from R&B. We were greeted from a distance when we walked in which was fine. However, that's about where the common customer service ended. We walked around for about 5 minutes passing at least 2 associates and no one asked if we needed help. I finally approached an associate standing at a computer in the front to ask her if they had a particular item in store to which she said no and proceeded to tell me that there were a few of a similar model throughout the store. She didn't offer to take me to the closest one or even tell me where to find one. I thought it was strange that she wouldn't assist me in finding the item that she suggested I look at or call an associate over to help. We walked around for another 20 minutes or so passing another 3 unoccupied associates and 2 helping customers, but received no greeting or inquiry about whether we needed help. When we were ready to purchase, I approached 3 associates that were standing around chatting together, at which point, one of them looked over to acknowledge my presence. When I said that we were ready to purchase, not a single one of them moved. It was surreal. I literally has to pick one of them by just locking in and walking in her direction at which point she seemed mildly annoyed. Upon asking if we had ever purchased from R&B before, my husband informed her that most of our current furniture is from here and that he has an account. Her "help" consisted of accessing my husband's account via iPad, finding the item online and swiping his credit card. We left through a gauntlet of 4 or 5 chatting associates and not a single one said goodbye or thanks for coming in. One of them did stare at us we exited, as if one of us had stolen a chair...perhaps they thought it was my very well behaved 5 year old. We've been pretty loyal R&B customers and this experience sucked. If this had been my first experience with the brand, I don't think I would go back. As it stands, I won't go back to the Oakbrook location again. I just got the sense that they didn't think we were the kind of people who could afford the furniture and thus didn't warrant help. Best case the associates just don't care, worst case there is some pre-judging going on that impacts how they treat you. It's been a few weeks since we visited the store and I wanted to see if my negative feelings would subside. They haven't. I've actually been really engaged with this brand, looking at the website and visiting the Skokie location fairly often because I have 3 rooms that either need full or partial furnishing. The associates at the Skokie location are very professional and helpful. If you must go to Oakbrook, enjoy the showroom, but expect the bare minimum from most of the associates. You'll get better customer service at Target than you will here. I'm also going to be buying more pieces from alternative brands. I suggest you do the same. read more
