Such a fun local spot! Tucked away right in the middle of a neighborhood this coffee shop brings cozy vibes and good feels! With a little market on the inside there's sure to be something for everyone. Lots of coffee, food, and pastry options. Great staff and dog friendly! Where have they been all my life!?! I found out about The Roost a week ago as the owner was due to be on GMA to participate in a national hot chocolate competition. Wanting good hot chocolate for months, I made it a point to stop in when nearby. Saturday, I finally got that chance. I'm so happy that I did! It is quaint little shop in an unexpected location. So I actually passed it before knowing. Space is limited, so laptops are discouraged. I purchased a hot chocolate made with oat milk topped with marshmallows and whipped cream along with a red velvet muffin and chocolate pecan cookie for later. Everything was good, but, as expected, the hot chocolate was absolutely delicious! Definitely a place that I will stop by again. read more

I had been coming to this coffee shop for about seven months because the space itself is beautiful and the aesthetic is great. Unfortunately, my most recent experience with the owner completely changed my opinion of the place. The issue started because I apparently didn't notice a "no laptop" sign. Instead of simply pointing it out, the owner immediately became aggressive and confrontational. What could have been a quick and respectful reminder turned into him going off in a very hostile way. During the interaction he even mentioned that he "paid $500k for this place" while telling me to leave.He also said "this is my place N-word you can get the F-out" The whole situation felt unnecessarily disrespectful and escalated far beyond what it needed to be. As someone who had been coming here regularly for months, it was disappointing. A simple, polite conversation would have solved the issue in seconds. The space is nice, but customer service matters, and no one should be spoken to that way. Sadly, I won't be coming back. read more

I really want this business to succeed as it would be nice to have a local cafe. The space is cute and it seemed like a place where people stopped by for a coffee and chat with the staff, which I liked. However, the coffee wasn't great (pour over and drip were both weak and thin in flavor) and the muffin I tried was pasty and not good. It would also be more inviting place to go if the chairs had backs. read more

Omg this place is ADORABLE! My friend and I were staying at an Airbnb last week and wanted to go somewhere walkable for coffee and wow we had such a great experience here. I had a cup of single Origen (Sumatra) pour over, a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel, and a blue berry muffin. My friend also had the coffee and the bread pudding. I loved that the bacon on the sandwich was very thick. It was a very tasty sandwich and for something you can throw together quickly a lot of care was put into making it. The bread pudding was fantastic too! So much flavor! And the muffin was delicious, a little crumbly but moist even hours later when I had it! The owner and barista were very kind and offered wonderful customer service. I left with a mug and a bag of the light roast and as i drink it at home in Chicago I'm reminded of the wonderful experience we had here. If I return to Detroit I will definitely pay them a visit again! Give them your business!!!! read more

I'm no fan of La Croix and I eat an apple and/or a banana most days but I can imagine how the current arrangement is working out better for their bottom line. They used to have kombucha on tap, something that had been sitting unused for awhile and was just recently removed. That was just laughably hipster to me. I'll drink kombucha in the bottle sometimes, which MM still has in their fridge, and I just had to wonder, do you really need kombucha on tap? Obviously, it turns out you don't. This market is on the small side, just packed with stuff, and they stay open late. It's what I imagine a New York City bodega is like. They have more energy drink selections than anyone should need and a very Detroit amount of blunt wraps behind the register. Backwoods and the like take up most of that wall. MM has the same mediocre prepackaged sandwiches, wraps and pasta salads as Marcus Market and I feel like I should know the name of the company that puts them together by now. For convenience sake I often grab em as sustenance on the way to work. They're nothing special but they get me through the day. Midtown Market has nowhere near the floor space, selection or general charm of Marcus, though, and it actually felt disloyal to use the abbreviation MM to refer to Midtown Market earlier in this review. They're friendly enough here, but me and the Marcus crew go way back and again, no cat is hurting this young upstart here. The thing is, Midtown Market is a little less out of my way going into work and that crucial five minutes can make me late, so I often find myself in here. Midtown Market ain't bad for what it is, they have a few staples here but if you're looking for more of a full on grocery store (with freshly made smoothies and tacos during certain hours) try the neighborhood OG market like 3 blocks away.

I got a pastry with a caramelized onion roasted red pepper and roasted tomato paste and a flaky puff pastry type crust. It was delicious and prices were reasonable for such a fancy item. I also used the restroom which was unisex. It was super clean inside which I appreciate at a food facility. Service was prompt and the cashier / barista was polite and nice. I look forward to additional visits to Warda.

The coffee shop is easily accessible with no barriers. There is a small parking lot, but plenty of street parking. Inside the warmth of a welcoming environment greets you as does the invigorating aroma of coffee beans. There is plenty of seating with areas perfect for reading, working on your laptop, or playing chess with your opponent. The menu is just right with a variety of drinks and baked treats. I had a huge piece of pound cake and a cold brew with oat milk and macadamia nut flavoring. It was just the fuel I needed to begin the work day. Service was friendly and efficient. I was very pleased, and plan to go back immediately to try other drink varieties. Perhaps I'll try a flavored lemonade next time.
