And it's not only the drink menu with its custom crafted cocktails, wines, beers & ciders that will wow you but the accompanying snacks and bites are just as divine. We tried the Maria Rita, which was a reposado tequila with fresh lemon, lime, hibiscus, and habanero, perfect version of a margarita. We also tried blowing smoke up your glass, this was made with Papa Pilar, dark rum, pineapple, fresh lime, house made basil syrup & tiki bitters. Absolutely fabulous. We also tried their deviled eggs each topped with unique toppings like trout row, bacon, and scallions. They were absolutely fabulous. They also have a great selection of charcuterie, Key nuts which you can order with different flavor, profiles, caviar, olives & peppers. OMG! I loved this place! We happened upon it on a scavenger hunt in Key West. This was the true treasure. It's a local haunt and it made me want to move to Key West ASAP. Paul was very friendly and entertaining. He tried to help with our scavenger hunt too. He even tried to recruit some of the locals to help answer some of the questions. Our absolute FAVORITE bar in Key West! Stopped in one night at a friends recommendation; we actually came back twice during the holiday weekend because we enjoyed it so much. The staff was beyond wonderful and the drinks just as good. They have a wide array of cocktails, wine and beer options to choose from. I also loved that they had games we could play. We partook in several games of UNO on our visits and have a new appreciation for the term "house rules"! The Roost is one of the rare gems in key west to actually get a delicious, well crafted cocktail that takes a true mixologist to make their drinks stand out. It's small, no live music as far as I can tell, but the drinks are so delicious it's worth a visit. Kaitlyn was our bartender and she made our visit one of our favorites ever! She custom designed drinks to our palate. She made my husband the best bourbon banana fire-flamed drink ever, and she made me the best Negroni I ever had. We were so impressed that we stayed for a second round of drinks, and tried something new! Then, when new people came into the bar, we were bragging to them and telling them what to order lol! They don't really serve food here , just popcorn and snacks , so eat elsewhere. I can't wait to go back and try more sophisticated drinks here. I convinced my husband to go down this little street solely based off of some business having bistro lights! As we were walking back to Duval we spotted this little bar, the Rooster and walked in when we saw their Wednesday specials were old fashioneds Best decision for our night. It is a quote little bar with a few tables and not really much to eat but the bartender ( wish I got her name) was really nice and quickly took our orders. It's a quiet upscale-ish locals bar, I'm guessing, with tasty libations "in the spirit" of master craft cocktails especially whenever you order one of their cheater pre-mixed cocktails or specials of the day; otherwise, all bets are off. Package store's particularly convenient. I've had some terrible drinks here and put up with some scruffy guff for ordering something simple but not on the menu as well as watched them be fairly rude to other patrons on several occasions. The Roost is the Cheers of KW. Though I think there are a lot of bars that can be said about. Now to the good part, how I got out of my comfort zone. All I have to say is caviar! All I kept hearing over the years was how expensive it can be for the "good stuff". Luckily, it's 1/2 off during happy hour at The Roost. I was intrigued by all the hype and besides the fact my wife thinks I'm too conservative when it comes to eating certain things. First, I tasted a little on the bread stick. It didn't really taste like anything, then I found love in those little delicious pancakes! The saltiness of the caviar and the smoothness of the creme fraiche sitting on the pillowy goodness...took my breath away in that moment. Came here on my last night with friends who live in Key West. Two of them had been here but it was the first for one of them. What an awesome find. One thing I have to say about KW is there are some wonderful craft cocktail bars around. What I enjoyed about this place is it was almost like a hidden gem I feel like maybe more locals cone here than tourists. The bartender seem to be familiar with many of the customers I love that. Three of us had the cocktail on tap that evening which happen to be one of my favorites a Moscow Mule and with in house made ginger beer. Probably one of the beat moscow mules I've had. Love the low light in this bar. Also a bonus, if you like a particular liquor there are bottles to buy to take home. I happened upon this place while killing time for my shuttle back to my hotel. I looked it up on Yelp and had to do a walk by to make sure it was there. The place is small and narrow off of Duval St. It's across from the Thirsty Mermaid... If you haven't eaten at the Mermaid, you need to try it ( look at my pics of that place)! This place was completely empty when I walked in.. Had to ask the bartender if they were still serving (it's 11 pm on a Tuesday, but she said it's open until 2am every day?) Normally I felt weird walking into an enjoy place late on a Tuesday, but the bartend-ress was super welcoming and we both had no clue why no one was there! Maybe 11pm on a Tuesday lol but we had a laugh and I knew immediately she was hilarious. I ordered a drink and she delivered as we made fun of each other lol. There was a sketchy crew out front sitting on a bench.. but it is the busy season so, you take it with a grain of salt. The bar stools were the coolest I may have ever seen? Starfish bases that were orange/pink and studded with rivets in them. Custom made and insane.. I need to buy some of these-seriously. The Roost is just off Duval Street, about 4 or 5 block south of Mallory Square. It is a calm refuge from the Key West craziness. The bar serves true craft cocktails. The classic rock music does not intrude in the relaxing experience. Apparently it is favorite of locals, enough said. Service was terrible we were not even looked at for 20 minutes by a male bartender. He was serving existing customers water while continuously ignoring us. The ambiance is nice but not worth being ignored. It's one of the smallest bars in key west and they can't even serve all of their customers. Food menu is a joke.
