We were searching for a fun craft cocktail bar on our pub crawl and we were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar at General horse play, probably because we went early. The vibe here is cocktail den, cozy, intimate, dark. It's like a sexy little vixen in the cocktail world with an air of mystery. The menu was very creative, I mean unique combos with premium spirits including absinthe and the bartender was helpful in that she would suggest a drink based upon spirits & profile you prefer. We each had a cocktail and Ithey were both delicious. We tried the I pity a fool, which is Jamison whiskey, peach, lemon, and black pepper. Also, El Cuerno de Aire , an Espadin Mezcal, lemon, and blackberry combo. Yum, Next time I'm in Key West I am definitely coming back here. Don't miss out on this one. read more

Absolutely loved the drinks menu at General Horseplay. I ended up walking over here from our hostel with a friend after she got in after a late flight. She wanted a cute cocktail with really good atmosphere, so I went to the Internet and found this place! It genuinely was so cute and amazing. We had an awesome conversation with the bartenders and they recommended our drinks for us. Since it was Christmas time most of the drinks Were holiday themed, which I've never seen before. We each had a few drinks, took some really cute pictures with the decor, and went back home to the hostel to catch up. Stopped in this place for happy hour while in Key West. There was a cool dice game the bartender told us about to prove your drink. If you roll a 3 or below it's discounted and 4 and above reg price. Speak Easy themed dimly lit apothecary bar just a few steps off Duval Street. Outside seating area leading to the etched logo front glass doors. A DJ was spinning house techno music without any words. A staircase leads to the top side bar with lounge chairs, although closed tonight and opened only on weekends. Excellent rum & coke cocktails garnished with black cherries on a stick. The spicy curry caramel popcorn was presented in a glass and had some nice heat. Very relaxing bar with chill ambiance. A awesome speakeasy vibe with amazing cocktails. We went there one night and there was live music with great deals. We heard about their happy hour and came back the next day to play the dice game. I was lucky and got the opportunity to pay a fantastic price based on my roll. We sat at the bar as we enjoyed the music and the libations that were served. The bartenders were extremely nice and made our experience that much better plus making fantastic drinks while chatting with us and providing recommendations on what to do while we were at the Keys. The dimly lit bar provides a sense of relaxation, but could have done without the strong incense smell. The outside patio was nice but too dark and hot to sit out there tonight. It's always packed at night, and the cocktails take a lot of effort to make, so have patience! This is for the inside bar. I always get espresso martini, or some of their specials with the egg whites mixed in for froth. This was an amazing find just off Duval. We were looking for something more elevated and upon arriving here, we were asked if we wanted to go upstairs (called HiNote). We asked what the difference was and it was described as a little more intimate and quiet, and a different menu. We decided to try it and were not disappointed. They have the cutest personal bar top which we loved. The drinks were creative and our bartender, Tim, was great. We also had a few things from the snack menu, both delicious. They are only open Fridays and Saturdays, but if you're looking for something more than the grimy bar scene, do not miss it! read more

General Horseplay is my kind of bar. Dark and chill with red tones throughout. Situated right off Duval Street, they still pack a crowd but it's somehow more tolerable here. The drinks are works of art. I ordered the creme bru lime special cocktail, which was overflowing and lovely. The only con was how sticky my hands became and how long it took to access the bathroom to wash them. I also learned here for the first time in my life that multiple dudes will use the urinal at the same time together. Don't ask me how I know that. My friend and I found a cozy table toward the front of the bar and were able to have a nice chat. I didn't love that there were only stools, no seat backs, as I find seat backs to be so much more comfortable. read more

Can't comment on the service. I don't even know if they serve food. The place inside has a cool feel to it. To start off the customer service is horrible. The older male bartender with a black hat was extremely rude after providing subpar service to two female customers. In the middle of the crowd he goes on his register machine to humiliate the customers after not being tipped "enough". He says multiple rude comments trying to belittle the customers.
