The Angel's Envy distillery is pretty much the #1 reason that my top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I decided to go on a trip to Kentucky, and after actually visiting, justified it as well. During an early 2025 trip to Washington, D.C., we went to multiple establishments and, coincidentally or not, encountered this specific bourbon and just loved it. The most notable occurrence was at Jack Rose Dining Saloon, where I had literally the best Old-Fashioned I've ever had, using a special Angel's Envy that hung out in some sherry barrels for a while. Since then, we've both regularly ordered it when given the opportunity, and ultimately decided that the best way to appreciate this fine spirit was to go right to the source. So to the mothership we went. My chum did most of the heavy lifting here and scheduled a bourbon tour with Louisville Food Tours (very strong recommend) that featured Angel's Envy at the first stop. It's hard to really put into words what this building looks like as you walk in and explore, but it's just so...nice. It's classy without being inaccessible, and it just felt like a true cathedral of bourbon. As tasteful as the bourbon it makes. During our initial tour, we were probably in the distillery for a solid half hour plus, getting a quick tour of the still and fermenters before being led into a side room on the second floor to formally taste some bourbon. Paula was our guide, both during this tour and later on, and was just enormously impressive, which I touched upon in my review of the official tour as well. She's no-nonsense and loves her bourbon - who can't relate? We learned how to inspect the bourbon in the glass, to take a test sip to numb the pain receptors and to truly appreciate the subtle notes in the bourbon with the second sip. It was legitimately helpful, useful information that we're both going to utilize going forward. After our three-hour tour ended (go hard or go home), it wasn't even much of a discussion - we came back here for a few hours to soak in more of the atmosphere and drink some more bourbon. At this point, it was probably close to 5ish but the place was still pretty busy; somehow we were able to secure spots at the bar upstairs and made ourselves at home. I wish I could remember the name of our bartender (blame the time that has elapsed, not the bourbon), but he was very good, social without being oppressive and was just present and let us do our thing. After sipping straight bourbon for most of the afternoon, I switched to the Bourbon Renewal, which you'll be shocked to know includes Angel's Envy but is a more summer, fruit-forward cocktail and super refreshing. Was the right call and hit the spot. (We also got waters because that's the responsible thing to do.) We finally went back downstairs to the gift shop, which doesn't feel like the right term - it was more majestic than something you'd walk into after going through, say, a museum for an hour or two. It's enormous and offers numerous bourbons and also some very high quality swag. We reunited with our chum Paula and sampled their limited edition two-grain, which was created due to a fortunate mistake in which the rye wasn't added so it's just the corn and malted barley. You CAN see the difference and taste it; to me at least, it's more caramel-y than their normal single barrel. We each bought a bottle to bring back to the homeland. My chum basically bought half the store, but I remained calm/deliberate and my only other purchase was a MAGNIFICENT black hoodie. I'm not kidding - I love hoodies and have probably owned dozens over the years, and this is literally the best quality one I've had. It has this interesting front pouch pocket design with like a pocket within the pocket for high-priority items like your ID or credit cards, and the hood itself is interesting. It's just really good and I wore it all day the next day as we slowly made our way back to the East Coast. It's been washed and carefully placed in my closet, where it will reign supreme when the weather inevitably turns nippy again. It's not an exaggeration to say we probably spent hundreds of dollars (at least not thousands) directly and indirectly involving Angel's Envy on this trip. Worth it.
Very cool tour of the distillery. Paul was an awesome guide. We really enjoyed being on the production floor seeing the mash cooking, bottling, and packaging. The tasting was also great. If you like seeing production, this is the tour.
Excellent experience!! Our bartender was fantastic and knowledgable! No food at this location. The setting was very speakeasyish. Beautiful whiskey beautiful building. The staff loved their job and you could tell.
Angels Envy is one of my favorite bourbons, so it was a treat to go here. My husband and I did the bottling experience which also gave us a small tour. The woman who led our event was amazing. We got a tasting and learned some new things, bottling was fun and a small quick tour. There were only 4 people in our group, and we all got along great. The distillery is beautiful, definite highlight of our trip.
Right downtown and close to many other places. This was great to check out. Learned a lot about the history. Our tour guide, Paula, was fabulous. She was attentive, informative and taught us how to get past the initial burn of bourbon. I much enjoyed the bourbon and the chocolate pairings were a nice surprise. We were able to get tickets the night before at a time that worked well for us. The bar area is a nice place to hang out and if you don't do the tour you can still go get some tastings.
Modern, very fancy visitor center and swag distribution hub with very affordable tasting options & tours. We signed up for a 30 minute tasting only session. It turned out to be a private session, and we tried three high end offerings. I really liked the rye, in particular. Definitely worth a stop.
We experienced the Single Barrel tasting and tour. The history of the building and the bourbon was so fun to learn about. Be warned it will be very warm inside during the hot summer months however we were there early April so it was still comfortable inside during the tour. Tour guide was really fun and engaging was able to answer the groups questions without hesitation. The upstairs bar is beautiful and of course, super tasty bourbon aged in Port barrels.
Had a great tour here on the bourbon trail. The distillery is clean and unique in downtown Louisville. It is located across from Louisville Slugger Field. Our guide was very knowledgeable and provided great information. We were given a great history of bourbon and the making of it. We were able to taste some distillers beer. The roof of the distillery is beautiful. The gift shop is filled with buys and we were able to buy a bottle and have it laser etched with a message. This is a must on the trail when in Louisville.
I've been a fan of Angel's Envy for several years, so I knew when I was in Louisville, I'd have to go to their distillery. I ended up taking the full tour. The tour guide did a great job going through the entire distilling process. He was clearly knowledgeable and very personable. However, the highlight was a tasting at the end of the tour. Tasting their traditional bourbon, a triple oak, a rye, and a cask strength. All of which tasted great, but it was their triple oak that really shined. It was a great experience. They have a wonderful gift shop as well with great ambience. This is a beautiful distillery and everyone working there really provided outstanding customer service. I certainly will not hesitate to come to Angel's Envy the next time I'm in Louisville. Well done!
We attended a private industry event today in one of the upstairs rooms. My wife and I enjoyed a Tasting and Tour. Terry did a great job as our Tour Guide. Once we got back from our tour, we each got a complimentary cocktail. I had The Lincoln and my wife had the Trinity Manhattan. Both were excellent. We also got to see the upstairs bar area and visited the gift shop. I bought the Port Syrup so I can make The Lincoln at home.
My wife and I visited Angel's Envy while we were in Louisville last Christmas. I've toured several distilleries in the area, and Angel's Envy was easily one of my favorites. The tour was excellent, but the tasting was even better. I really appreciated how modern the distillery feels, and the bourbon is consistently enjoyable. Overall, it was a great experience and one I'd highly recommend to anyone visiting Louisville.
Such a beautiful building - good drinks and good service. Did get there in time to do a tour but was able to do a flight and get a delicious drink. Will be back
Excellent tour!!! $55 multiple tasting of samples u can only get in the tour!!! Staff was so friendly, attentive and answered all out questions!!! The bar at the end is awesome!! When you think Kentucky, "it bourbon you think of." Without a doubt this establishment is a must go. If you do the bourbon tour it's the first stop. You will learn so much. The climate and culture dating back to the 1800s still runs through the city today. The company that operates Angels Envy is Louisville Distilling Co. The founder was Lincoln Henderson. This gentleman went to college right here in Louisville and after forty plus years of working in a distillery worked his way to the top as master distiller. His own brews are pretty good too. How about Jack Daniel's Gentleman's Jack. That was Mr. Henderson. The building that Angels Envy occupies was occupied prior by American Elevator and Machine and American Saw. Later it existed as Vermont American Complex, then it was abandoned. The site was deteriorated but became the place where in 2010 revival. The Henderson family and Louisville Distilling Co made their permanent presence. They invested in the surrounding area too. They made a massive complex when you visit . Now come and visit today. Learn the basics of how the Henderson family double distills their Angels Envy in a wine cast barrel after aging. Taste the quality of their legacy that will establish and endure the ages. Although the legacy lives on forever in this family and their double mystery their dad left, the story continues. Plan your visit today . read more

Went to a tasting here and it was amazing got to taste 5 different flavors of bourbons which all of them were very good. The service was excellent and helpful with all questions asked. The place is very casual and very nice read more
This distillery is a high end place with various tours and a bar on the second floor. Go upstairs for a upscale bourbon experience on unique drinks. I'm big on chai since I make chai from scratch and the chai drink was quite nice! Their napkins are also pretty sick too, be sure to use it! The staff was super friendly and helpful. Definitely come here for the tour! read more

Angel Envy..I finally made it. A short 15 minute walk from Galt House hotel. Easy to follow street signs along the way. Angel Envy is beautiful! Staff was friendly and nice. The gift shop had a bit of everything. We quickly located the two new products available only at the distillery for now in pint size. They have a 2 grain bourbon and Peated Cask Rye. Neither one disappointed. We sampledata at the bar upstairs. Normally not a fan of peated but to my surprise I enjoyed it more over the 2 grain bourbon. A must stop while in Louisville!!! read more

We visited the Angel's Envy Distillery today and took the Signature Tour ($31.80). It was worth every penny. Our guide was very informative and walked us through the full process of how their bourbon is crafted, from start to finish. The highlight, of course, was the tasting. We sampled four Angel's Envy bourbons, each unique in flavor, and paired them with three chocolates that complemented the pours perfectly. The combination brought out different notes in the bourbon that you might not notice otherwise. The distillery itself is beautiful and well laid out, with plenty of history and detail behind the brand. If you're in Louisville and enjoy bourbon, this is a must-do experience. read more

We visited Louisville along our bourbon tour and this was the first stop! The bourbon tasting was the best as they taught us the best way with bourbon. The feel of the brick next to the still was so cozy in the winter time. It was amazing as the tasting came with chocolate to pair. The tour of the facility was cool as there was a group of us and we were able to ask questions and find out more. The gift shop held so much and you can find anything if you're a fan. read more
We had LIAM for our tour, which his BIG BOOMING VOICE! Liam knew the ins and outs of Angel's Envy - walking us through the entire process, and explaining everything well as we reached each location - the mash tanks, the distilling column, the doubler, the barrels - everything. Safety was appropriately stressed everywhere - stay inside the green lines. The tasting at the end was comprised of 4 different whiskeys, which were served with water and a bottle and eye dropper to soften them if desired. The tasting room was very nice, with comfortable chairs and nice glasswear! Notes: We attended this tour in July. It was very warm in the distillery in general so hydrate up before you go. read more

Out of all the distillery tours, this one was probably one of my least favorite. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible or a bad experience (or I'd be giving way less stars), but it was just okay. Our tour guide was knowledgeable enough but really kind of awkward and very rigid. There wasn't a lot of conversation, questions or flow -- it was scripted and she was not a fan or comfortable going off script. That being said, I really enjoyed the bourbons that we got to taste, and appreciated the delicious chocolate pairings. They all worked well together and it was one of the only tours that had something like this (recently). The bar at the distillery looked just okay -- it was busy and we weren't really feeling the vibe with the cocktail options. Everything is beautiful in the gift shop, lots of goodies and treats for a fun souvenir. read more

This is one of the best tours we had in Louisville. Rick was a great storyteller! The tasting, tour, and bar were all great. The place is super clean and welcoming. The bartender we had was kind of stand off ish but I wasn't going to let that ruin a good review. If you stay in louisville and can't make it out to the bourbon trail, I definitely recommend this as a stop. It is walking distance from NULU and downtown. read more
Angels Envy is my favorite Kentucky Bourbon, so naturally we had to stop by on our drive from Chicago to Nashville. We arrived later in the afternoon, so we unfortunately didn't have time for a tour. We hung out in the tasting room/bar area and shared a flight. The staff is friendly and service is good. Btw, parking was free if you can find a free spot on the street, otherwise the lot across the street charges $10. Back to the flight, we had the Cellar Collection, which was tasty, rich in flavor and super strong in alcohol content. Looking forward to coming back for a tour and more tastings. read more

Had the best experience at Angel's Envy doing a Bottle Your Own experience with a special selected barrel. During our tasting, we were taught the "Kentucky Chew" of swishing around the first sip and how that opens your tastebuds. Tasted a younger bottle vs an aged barrel the we were getting to bottle ourselves. Lastly we did a comparison with an orange chocolate truffle with the batches. So educational and fun too! read more
We had some of the best cocktails here! They were so well-balanced and refreshing. Enjoyed the shopping at their gift shop as well. Place was beautiful and modern on the inside. Can get a bit hectic at the bar (for good reason) but well worth the wait! read more
A very nice distillery. Ambiance is high-endy in a re-purposed warehouse. We drink this bourbon at home and thought stopping in for tasting would be fun. We did the chocolate tasting with two types of bourbon. The server was helpful and educated us regarding the bourbons and how to sip them. We also got a bottle for one of friends as a birthday gift and had the bottle engraved on the spot. Nice. Mark. & Nancy. read more

You can't go to Kentucky and not try bourbon! During my trip to Louisville I got to cross the Angel's Envy distillery off my bucket list and did their traditional tour. I would say this was the most interactive and informative tour that I've been on so far. Our guide asked who wanted to try the mash from the machine and of course I had to say yes! It's quite the experience, so if you get the chance to try it you should! At the end of the tour we did our bourbon tasting where we got to sample one bourbon that is only sold at the distillery along with some other brand favorites along with complementary chocolate truffles. If I could handle more bourbon I would've signed up for the next class! read more

Yes, I think it would be a good place for a bridal shower. There's a bar upstairs that has an extra room. It would be fun and different. Go for it!
I see it says "closed-toe shoes recommended." So, I assume we are fine to wear flat sandals given it will be in the 90°s when we are in town?
We wore sneakers and I didn't see anyone with sandals or flip flops on but I doubt they turn you away if you wear them.
I havedone the bourbon trail before so I am not interested in a tour. Do they have a public bar you can just walk in?
We were there last month and we couldn't walk in to have a drink. We could make purchases from their gift shop. There were lots of bars with With tremendous selection of local bourbons.
Is the tour wheelchair accessible?
They have elevators to the other floors and from what I remembered I think a wheelchair could get through most of the distillery
Would you recommend this tour over the Old Forester tour?
Absolutely best tour we took by far.
