I come in here about once a month or so to purchase chicken lay pellets and scratch. Always the friendliest service. They always have a young man bring the 50 pound bags out and load them in the car. Bought two ducklings here back in May 2025. One Indian runner and one magpie. As they grew I noticed the runner was getting colors in that looked more like a mallard. A few weeks later it was confirmed as he had the blue tinge on his wings and his head was turning color. He also was not standing straight up at an angel as runners do. I called Round -up and they said they haven't had runners in for months. I then explained I bought the duck in May. They argued they didn't carry "Indian runners" only regular ones. I explained that it's the same common name for the species they listed and that they were mistaken. They then asked for a receipt to which I didn't have since it had been months since I bought them. They wouldn't even accept a partial refund since the runners were more expensive. I since have stopped buying from them as their prices were over inflated anyways. I suggest you look somewhere else if you are looking to buy animals or feed. read more

The Round-Up is my go to spot for horse supplies. The staff is friendly. They are easy-to-find. And they usually have what I need. We regularly get shavings, horse dewormers, alfalfa pellets on the feed side of things. They also have an excellent selection of first-aid supplies and supplements. Break a piece of tack? They usually have what you need in stock. A wide selection of halters, lead ropes, bridles, and bits.Plus, if you need some Show Sheen for that upcoming show, they have it. They are also a Yeti and Traeger supply store. And, they have a small animal section where you can buy dog and cat food, toys, collars and leashes. They are locally owned. read more

Don't call The Round Up, Bakersfield, animal feed store is open until 6 pm. I called the store on April 17th at 5:45 pm to ask a simple question, did they have lady bugs. The woman answered speaking loudly and rapidly with "thank you for calling during the last 15 minutes we are open. We are busy with work for closing." She hung up on me. So I ordered lady bugs from Amazon and waited a week for delivery. read more

This is my new source for dog food. Tractor Supply never had our specific brand in stock. "Customers typically order it online and pick up" is what TS told us. The Roundup employees are Very friendly and helpful. This is a Great place to stop at after Saturday breakfast. I am updating to 5 stars as this place just makes me happy. Employees are so nice here, always. It is well appointed and clean for a feed store. A large one at that. I adore the chick room and fell in love with all the lil baby quail. And baby ducks. All of them. We recently got a smoker so I am really obsessed right now with wood chips, sauces and rubs. I have always been a bbq/outdoor enthusiast so I find there is a lot to look at here. I can never leave without buying some cat and dog food for the pets. Their prices are competitive and you know what? They do not sell junk here - it is all healthier food choices. Some cases of food are buy one, get one free. So many pet toys and treats too. This store makes me want to get a farm - but only for a minute. I am a big fan! read more

Hubby purchased an item on 9/26 in the evening and unfortunately it wasn't what I was wanting so went to return it on 9/27 in the am, less than 24 hours later to be told it is not returnable only store credit cause they have no way of knowing if it's been used. Item clearly looks clean and it was clean enough to put right back on the shell for store credit. I recommend to only shop locally at places that will offer refunds when items clearly look unused with all tags on item. read more

They said when I called they had good quality alfalfa for my horses. It wasn't. Definitely not for horses. It seems Bakersfield always has very poor quality hay and low standards so I'll keep getting it in Los angles surrounding areas. read more

I bought a food container from here wanted the 65 lbs and they sold me a 45 lbs which is very small for the foods I purchased their. I just wished they paid attention to the one I pointed out to them I even told them I wanted the 65 lbs container. Very disappointed when I got home and put the dog food which I purchased their inside of it. I bought the 40 lbs dog food and all of it didn't even fit inside the 45 lbs container smh. After already switching to another store for feed for sanitary reasons we tried to buy some Chicks for our kids so after about a hour of having them at home they started to die and there was nothing they could do about it. We have purchased 30 chickens from Round up over the past 5 years. This last time, after buying 8 chicks, we noticed they are not being taken care of at all. They were impacted, with poop stuck to their vents, bellies and up to the front. We washed them in warm water but one was very sick from the get go. We called Round-up and was told to come down and get a replacement. The baby chick died that first night and we took the 40 mile trip down from Lake Isabella the next day to get a replacement, only to be told by management that "all sales are final", in contradiction to the earlier phone call. It is clear that the new management has not trained their employees as to store return policy or as to how to properly care for the live animals in their care. I cant help but wonder how many HUNDREDS of baby chicks must end up dead in their trash can due to simple mis-management. Where is the INTEGRITY of this company? What happened to customer service? When did PROFIT come before the proper care of the animals they sell? read more

I've been here quite a bit to buy dog food and I sometimes look at the chicks, ducks, and other birds they have in there. But this time there was a bin of ducks that were all sprawled out laying down. They looked very hot trying to fan their wings and legs out for air. There's heat lamps in most of the cages/bins. But I think this one was way too hot. There was definitely a dead duck in there. :( I think the others were dying too. I'm not an expert but I've owned exotic birds in the past. This is a good farm and pet supply store very close to my job on Rosedale Highway. I have bought dog food, cat food, rabbit chow, and even medicine for dogs. We were going to buy a rabbit hutch there, but decided to make it a family project and build one. We have also bought sunflower and other seeds used to blend custom food for Sunny our bird. And of course the wild bird food is a good value here. Down through the years we have bought dozens of horse troughs for use where I work. As other reviewers have said, the people here are very nice, and they will always help you carry your stuff out . This is a very handy store, easy to get into and out of. I've been shopping at round up for many years, somewhere between 15-20 years. The service used to be great with friendly employees. Employees seem to be not all that friendly now. And one girl in particular With dark hair and glasses is highly rude. she literally argued with me at the counter when I told her that I normally have someone help me get the large bags of food from the bird food aisle. I found it to be very upsetting and I was really embarrassed that I was being talked to this way in public where people were watching. I've had three back surgeries and it's hard to lift large bags of food now. In the end she did not have someone come to help me with the dolly and I had to literally carry every bag one by one to the counter. I am very dissatisfied with their customer service read more

Have been going to this supply store for 9 months now. Have purchased chicken coop, four pre-owned layers, who have been laying well, and 6 baby chicks now 9 months old all females so their breeders success rate for sexing them was 100% for us. At any time if daily, even through the lock-down, have been extremely eperienced, knowledgeable, helpful, and all around kind through our new found chicken raising experience. read more

So, I love supporting local businesses but I must say, their lack of customer services is quite incredible! It is a shame that I get better customer service from the guy who carried my dog food out than I did from the cashiers. I stood there in front of the cashiers (there were two ladies) and waited, while they looked at me, until they finished their conversation to even recognize my existence. I was the only one standing there waiting with my two kids. The gentleman who carried my dog food out was incredible! It is a shame that this day in age customer service is not first priority. I actually love the vibe of the store but I will not be returning. They need to get better cashiers or have someone properly train their cashiers on how to deliver great customer service. This was not my first visit either. It was my third. The same thing happened the first two times and I really wanted to give this store a chance. After it happened the third time, I was done. Amazon now delivers my dog food. They also need to learn how to put a customer on hold. So this way I do not hear how rude they are over the phone (first time I called). Talk about great customer service! Everyone who works here is so friendly. I have never had to carry anything heavier than a bottle of ice tea by myself. Keep an ear out for their customer appreciation days! This isn't just a store for farm animals. They have tons of stuff for your pets too! This is one of the few places in Bakersfield that sells "Taste of the Wild" dog food, which is what we feed our dogs. The price is cheaper here than at some of the boutique pet stores in town. A bonus is that they have "Top of the Mornin'" beverages. Don't forget to bring back your bottle to get a discount. They also have frequent buyer programs. :). read more

I frequent this place for high quality dog food, however in the springtime I LOVE to go there and see all the little baby chickens! They really do have a good variety of supplies for livestock as well as pets. We love to get "Taste of the Wild" dog food which is grain free. We typically get the "High Prairie" formula because the first ingredient is Bison. I haven't seen this dog food anywhere else. read more

I went into Round Up this morning after dropping off my kitties at the vet to find some paper litter that they'll need after their surgery. I had no idea what I was looking for, as we have always used clay litter. The staff was helpful when I asked where I could find paper litter. Prices seem a little higher than Petco, but I would support local for a few bucks more, any day. I'll be back. read more

Love this store. Geat young people who work there with obvious compassion for animals. Many of them have aspirations to be vets... and are in schools, working, etc.. They are very friendly, obviously get along with one another, helpful, and ready to give advice. The lived animals are well tended. Obviously sick or tenders are separated. The kids grab the heavy stuff and load it in the vehicle, friendly and happy. It seems genuine that they like working there. Great selection of weird stuff, like boutique dog foods, organic, etc... They've schooled me on stuff that is new to me, like what guage needle to use, etc... The only reason that it doesn't get 5 stars is...
