Stopped in with a couple friends last night and we were immediately greeted by the bartender. There were not many people here when we first walked in, but it filled up as the night went on. I liked the light or lack of lighting. It was darker, but perfect for a cocktail and conversation. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. I had a few Dark Side cocktails and one my friends ordered a few Old Fashion's and my other friend had a drink called The Hot One. Have been here three times now with my wife. We come to enjoy a well made Old Fashioned. We are always here early, so not too busy. Place seems very relaxing for us to chill for a moment. Prices are more on the higher end for a drink, but they always make them very well. So normally don't mind the price for a day away from the homestead. Patio seating as well as shuffle board in the back can make for a fun time here. Ok. I'm old and far beyond the party days, but I imagine this place does well with the younger crowd later in the evenings! read more

This place was recommended by a friend for cocktails in Hyde Park so had to stop by one night. It was pretty chilly so mainly stayed indoors but they do have a small outdoor area. The indoor area is pretty long vertically speaking so the back of the place has some games, the middle area is the bar, and at the front of the place you have their main tables and some bar seating right next to the windows so you can people watch as you sip on your drinks. I ended up trying the witching hour since I prefer the lighter drinks and it was light and refreshing with the lemon, blueberry, and bubbles. I would get the drink again. I LOVE love love love this place. The vibe is chill, and the playlist is off the charts. The bartenders are full of personality and the cocktail list has all of my favorite spirits on it. After getting full at North End Pizza, you should def stop here for a night cap. Wanna know the best part about The Royal? It has shufffffffffleboard in the back! He said it's not usually busy on Tuesday's but there was some local event that day. But I think he did a great job handling all those people and still putting care into each drink. We popped in on a Thursday night while in the neighborhood and are glad we did. We are not locals, so I'm unsure how long this place has been around but it seemed relatively new. We ordered two cocktails--the southern haze and an old fashioned--and we loved the old fashioned so much we ordered a second one. I was surprised by how inexpensive the cocktails were compared to similar businesses in bigger cities--they only cost us about $9-10 each (compared to the $13-17 cocktails you often find in establishments like this). A stellar spot in Boise's Hyde Park District for a drink. The atmosphere of this place is kinda steam punk, kinda speak easy, kinda sultry modern, kinda hazy gangsta. A great craft cocktail menu and the staff here can make up anything you might request. Shuffle board & pool in the back, plenty of seating, big bar area, seasonal patio, funky cool music. A group of 8 of us visited the Royal on a dreary Sunday afternoon looking forward to a craft cocktail. The bar was surprisingly slow for a Sunday afternoon in Hyde Park, but nonetheless the bartender took his time to even acknowledge us. When he finally approached us, the majority of the group decided to order a beer because if his initial greeting was any indication, we didn't want to wait for him to slowly make 8 cocktails. The cocktail we did order was filled to the brim with ice and contained one perfectly measured shot (don't worry about being over-served here). Fair enough. I visited this place the Friday after Thanksgiving 2021 after picking up my husband from the airport. We've always wanted to try this place so we decided to stop in for a quick drink before we went home. We sat down and waited for service, when the black haired bartender finally came over, she took his order for an old fashioned and asked if he would like to have the royal old-fashioned to which he said yes, and she walked away. We thought she went to go make the drink even though I have not placed my order yet but she went down to the middle of the bar to talk to two guys and pour herself and them some shots. When she finally returned I ordered a gin drink from their menu. She was, again, giving her attention to the two guys at the middle of the bar and I think she forgot to add gin to my drink because it just tasted like a lemon basil sweet soda. I thought about calling the manager but from the previous reviews it looks like the person in charge might not give it any attention. It is up to the bar whether they allow their bartenders to drink or not but, being a former bartender and bar manager, you never take a shot while your patrons are waiting. read more

I've been to this bar maybe 3 or 4 times now and always had a nice time , until recently. We went in around 4 olock in the afternoon to have a drink ( and a bowl of water for my dog as well . )The bartender served all four of us and we went outside . As soon as we sat down it suddenly started pouring rain so we went inside . The bartender came up to me and said so unfortunately you can all finish your drinks but you have to go because the owner doesn't like dogs and if he catches your dog on camera he will flip out . Come again ? Not only have I brought my dog there just about every time I've been in there but he's been welcomed in by the staff and given water each time without a word of the owner not allowing that . She also mentioned this after we all including the dog received our drinks . We thought it was odd considering only 5 maybe 6 other ppl were in there while the majority of them came up to pet him and say hi . We just finished or one drink and paid and quickly got out of there but it was off putting because More than half of Hyde Park was dead or appeared to be out of business all together so we really couldn't understand the urgency of the matter . Hands down the best place we went while in Boise. Bartender Drew is amazing, and atmosphere reminds me of bars in Spain.
