Mary Carey's is part of Mary's McKinley View Lodge. It was a great stopping point on our way out to Denali. We wanted a fast breakfast, so we grabbed some cinnamon rolls, coffees, and tea. The cinnamon rolls were tasty but honestly nothing overly special. The coffee was basic self serve coffee and got the job done of caffeinating us. My dad raved about the tea. He said it reminded him of old school black tea and wished he had bought a couple extra packets for the rest of our trip. The staff were very friendly and happy to help us. The view off the patio was very serene and I'm sure if it was a little less cloudy we would have been able to see more of the Denali mountain range. read more

Our tour group stopped here on our drive from Anchorage to Denali. This is a definite dive. Good stop for a bathroom break and coffee/soda, but that is about it. They require purchases $10 and under be cash. read more

We came for the history but left disappointed by the breakfast and the service. We asked for hash browns to be extra crispy, but they arrived undercooked instead. What was even more disappointing was that our waitress seemed annoyed by the request. Throughout the meal, the staff came across as unfriendly, and it felt like we were inconveniencing them just by being there. It's a shame because the historic atmosphere is interesting, but the mediocre food and poor customer service made the experience one we won't be repeating. read more

Denali National Park was everything we expected, great hikes, wildlife, and the always helpful rangers. The experience was sullied by "Glitter Gulch", a motley collection of tourist traps and mediocre/bad restaurants masquerading as a town next to the park. On our departure day we could not start driving quickly enough, starting without breakfast. Which allowed us to find Mary's McKinley View, an absolute gem...unbelievably refreshing and restoring our faith in humanity. Service was top notch, friendly, helpful, and efficient. Our breakfasts were delicious. And the day was perfect, blue skies for a our view of Denali. Most certainly not corporate owned, decor reflected Alaska roots, the cross cut saws, wood paneling, and barstools like I've never seen. Heading to Denali from the south, try to time your trip to eat here vs. dealing with "Glitter Gulch". Similar, get out of there and have breakfast here on the way back. read more

Strikingly great food, as I had the veggie burger and was grateful they are home made and absolutely delicious. The burger fell apart but my mother and brother had regular burgers and loved them. This was a recommendation from the camp hosts we met on the Curry Ridge hike, and it was well deserved! We weren't lucky to catch a great view of Denali on this cloudy day, but we were lucky to grab an awesome dinner. The double cheeseburger cooked medium rare was outstanding, and my wife's Reuben was great. All of this comes before you learn the history of this place and of the fabulous lady for whom the restaurant is named - she was a trailblazer in the 1960s for coming to Alaska and dominating like a boss in a time when that was unheard of. Nice little place. I stopped in because their sign say last stop for 75miles. Thought it would be a good time to stop and eat. The inside was very clean. They have am outside area where you can sit and eat. The view was really great! The people working their were really nice also. The burger I got was cooked right and tasted nice. Got a nice thick slice of tomato and fresh lettuce. All the food seems hand made with care. read more

Nice food and pies at this homesteaded lodge restaurant. Sorry, no pics of our Patty Melt, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and homemade Cherry Pie A La Mode. We dug right in as the food came out. All were very enjoyable and tasty. There's a wonderful history of how Mary Cary homesteaded here before there was a road! Mary's daughter, in her Eighties, runs the Gift Shop. Five stars for the amazing view and fascinating story about Mary Carey! This place might not look like much from outside, but trust me, stop in. Weather permitting, there's a huge deck that you can view Denali. But even if it's cold, inside has an amazing view--for everyone! Windows reach from the tabletop to the roof so that whether you're sitting in a booth or at a table you can view "The Great One." The service was also excellent. The server was knowledgeable and friendly. Instead of being bothered by visitors' queries, she was anxious to share Mary Carey's incredible story. Oh, and the food was good. Not amazing, but tasty. A bit too salty for me, but that could be just me. The homemade brownie was excellent! Definitely recommend! read more

WOW! Couldn't be more grateful for this place. Driving to Denali in a down-pour with no cel service. Knowing that I would need to eat and use some facilities pretty soon, was thrilled to see their roadside big sign that said, "last café for 75 miles' and another one with simply 'EAT'. Genius and simple marketing, and absolutely true. And what a gem of a sweet and wonderful place it is. Had a delicious beef stew and spinach salad, literally in the middle of nowhere? would've thought it would've been just hotdogs and fast crap. Not so, not so. Delicious, and super friendly happy service. Also a sweet bookstore where we grabbed some neat literature for our 12-year-old on mush dogs. The story of Miss Mary is incredible also, completely worth the sharp left turn. read more

My friends and I were driving from Denali National Park towards Anchorage- found this place en route. We originally planned to simply grab and have food while driving but found a pleasant ambiance and nice view when we came in to order. We decided to dine in. We were received by a nice waitress who answered our curious questions about the place and food patiently, before having us seated. I liked the jalapeno poppers appetizers and Caesar's salad that I ordered. They were fresh and were in the right a portion for 1 person (shared the apps, of course). It wasn't too pricey and overall a good experience. Lastly, a very impressive history about finding this place (see pic attached). Clearly, their family is espousing the original ideas with dedication. read more

Foods amazing. I ordered the spicy grilled chicken sandwich with a side of chicken noodle soup. A little word of caution spicy actually means "SPICY". There was one gal waitressing the entire place when we went. She did great, considering she had two large parties and a few other tables. Their food is basic, (but it's WAY better food than anything we ate at the Princess McKinley Resort!). The views though, WOW. On a clear day, Mt. McKinley is a beautiful sight from their deck. I'd eat here again in a heartbeat over the terrible/overpriced food we had at the resort. read more

We stumbled across this place most on our way up to Denali. Great story about mary Carey - an early woman pioneer in the area. The food was so good we ended up eating here three times!. I had the fish burger three times and each time it was fresh perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the halibut burger. Husband had mushroom burger which was excellent ask for patty to be cooked medium. The French dip was really tender as well. They toast the burger bun so it is extra good because of the crunchy bits of bread. Fries were crinkle cut and great. The soup was hearty - our favorite was beef and barley. This place is truly excellent and a much better option than eating at the princess lodge which had slow service and warmish poorly cooked food at best. We stayed at princess but drove down to eat. The place is still run by the family - third generation. They were super nice and lovely to talk to. Highly recommend to come to this restaurant if you are in the area or staying at princess lodge. read more

I was fortunate to visit this wonderful establishment this past week. We stopped in for lunch on our way back from Talkeetna Lodge facing Denali. Jean Richardson still runs the place and tells stories about her mother. The food was delicious, the stories inspiring (I bought the book "Alaska ~ Not for a WOMAN! by Mary Carey the writer, teacher, widow, and Alaskan pioneer homesteader who made Alaska for Women! Great place, wish I had more time to spend at this splendid establishment. The mountain view is breath taking! read more
