The cutest little spot with the SWEETEST service. This place is a whole vibe. There's outside seating if you prefer. Where you can dine with your toes in the sand. We went later in the evening and it was gloomy so we chose to sit inside. Our server. I think her name is Riley... so cute and so personable. She deserves a raise for real for real. The food was great and my company was also phenomenal. I got the Sandbar BLT. It's a blt WITH an egg. So much yumminess. My chica got fish tacos and sweet potato fries. The regular fries- good. We've been here several times over the last year and have never had a bad meal yet. Always friendly and the service is great, but tonight they hit it out of the park! Bluegill dinner is probably the best I've had in years and I'm very critical about my fish fry's! The portion of fish was huge and meaty. Beautiful crust and super buttery flavor. Not greasy and almost didn't need any tartar sauce. 10 out of work for me! Next, chicken wings. Beautiful crust and golden brown. The legs were so big it took almost 4 giant bites to get thru one wing. Again, not greasy and tasted great. One things though, I think they're cooked in lava because they are super hot (temperature). I am only gonna give 2 stars here for this review. Great location, beautiful view of the lake especially when in the back room. Love the beach vibe. Food is decent. Good breakfast menu. However I have had a salad twice now and the lettuce isn't all that fresh. I love salads and want crisp fresh lettuce or not limp leafy greens. That couple be easily improved upon. The main issue I have here is the place itself. It needs a coat of paint on the inside. It just always looks so dirty. The window to the door was washed out it's a wet rag and just left to dry like that. You could barely see through it. Close for a week and spruce up the joint! Otherwise I don't mind eating here as the food is tasty and the prices are fare. Good soups in the wintertime. read more

Three of us came here for lunch. Well never be back nor would we recommend this for anyone looking for good service or decent food in general. It took over 20 minutes to get out drinks, then they forgot one out of the three. It took almost an hour to get 3 orders of three tacos. Then it was wrong when it showed up and to top it off 2 out 3 had the cooks hair in them. I asked the manager if they used hair nets and was told we have a hat policy for that. Afterwards the manager wanted to argue how long we had waited. Speaks volumes when you can't own mistakes a manager. This place should be inspected by the health department soon. Just threw out my service dog and I. He is a large German Shepard because one of his jobs is stability for me. A girl asked to pet him and we said yes. About 6 others joined. Shortly after what we assume was the manager questioned us if he was a service dog. Then asked his jobs. At this point our dog yelped because he thought he was going to get more attention. He right away asked us to leave. Obviously scared of dogs. The little girls had more courage. read more

We stopped here based on some reviews. I can now understand why they are mixed Service is highly correlated to your server. We were seated quickly and our order was taken right away. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Meanwhile, the tables around us were seated, placed their orders, served their food, and finished before we were served. What should have been a 30-minute lunch turned into 90-minutes. Turns out, our server forgot to ever place our order. He owned it and promised a discount. We assumed one of the kids meals would be comp'd but they only knocked off a couple dollars -- and then charged a fee for paying with a credit card! (It was a missed opportunity to turn the experience around.) The food was fine - no complaints but also nothing to rave about - but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. read more

We moved from Homer Glen, IL to St John, IN two years ago. We've found 2 great restaurants right on Cedar Lake...The Lighthouse for fine dining dinners and The Sandbar for breakfast, lunch, drinks and an enjoyable time relaxing on the beach/patio. The food is terrific, the drinks are excellent and the service is friendly and at YOUR pace. Yesterday the restaurants in Indiana open back up after the rules on the Covid-19 lockdown eased up. WOW, we didn't realize how much we missed places like the Sandbar. read more

First review got cancelled, WTH. I'll try one more. The service was great. The performance stunk. 40 minutes to get our reuben sandwich and some fish tacos. My Two hearted beer took 10 minutes to arrive. Thanks. The Reuben had no Russian dressing, skimpy packaged corned beef, and so, so fries. My boss was happy with her fish. So, I paid $46 for lunch, and was amazed at how the food performance had gone down since I was last here. Then the bartender called out my boss as if she was a local tramp, embarrassing her and me saying who do who have now for lunch. Are you guys idiots. I'm local, and usually go to the Sandbar. Great food! Best chicken sandwich I've ever had. With that being said, the place is dirty. The menus were dirty, the doors all had dirty finger prints. First time here. The food was very good. 6 of us met for dinner and drinks. Speciality drinks were good and yungling is on tap. Full bar service. We sat outside by the lake at picinic tables. The only issue I had was trying to get seated at the picinic table, the ends are not open like every other picinic table in the world. We had the deep fried bacon to start with maple syrup, chocolate and ranch sauces. It was good. 3 of our group had the "pineapple upside down cake"drink, someone had a "pink velvet" drink and I had a "Banana Mai Tai". The drinks were good. 3 of our group had the "Sandbar Club" sandwhich,which they liked. I had the "Big Dipper" hamburger, which is a deep fried patty on a pretzel roll. One had the "Cali burger" and one had the burger with pulled pork. The had live music which was o.k. and lots to see on the water. We will definitely be back. read more
