I was pressed for time and couldn't make it out to see my fabulous waxer in Santa Monica. I turned to yelp and was brought to Mirtha- the highest rated waxer in Long Beach- specializing in Brazilian waxing. I called for an appointment and she was able to see me the next day. The salon is nothing fancy but it's clean and I was comfortable for the most part. Mirtha is a lovely, charming Argentinian woman. As soon as she told me she was Argentinian we started speaking Spanish and I was much more at ease. If you can't have a Brazilian do your Brazilian, I suppose a woman from a neighboring country is the next best thing. This is no spa. It's more like... Mirtha's house. Do not expect your typical waxing experience with the general polite procedures like privacy when you are changing, either. Just do what you're told and you'll be ok. I should mention- I'm not really a naked kind of person. I'm actually shy and quite modest so pretty sure I almost died when she gave me eyeliner to draw on myself and explain what I wanted. Whuuut!!! Lol. You must leave all inhibitions at the door. Mirtha is damn thorough!! She uses a product she calls "flexible wax". No cloth strips are used. Just the wax, which feels warm on the skin, quickly hardens and then is expertly ripped off with the hair- roots and all! I know this because Mirtha proudly holds it up to the light to ensure she got the root too!! Giggle. Then she searches the skin, tweezers in hand, for any ingrown hairs or stragglers. Oh, and the whole time, she's talking about the price of housing in CA, the state of the economy, visiting Colombia, and how Buenos Aires is the Paris of South America. I love this woman. I still love Brazilian Honey Waxing (see my review) as my primary spot for waxing, however now I have a place in Long Beach too. I would recommend this spot for any of your waxing needs. Her bikini waxes start at $35. Brazilian $55 +. She is certainly at home in this beauty salon she has been operating for 19 years where she is the only beautician in the place. Tiny place - by the liquor store on the corner of Stearn and Lakewood. VERY VERY friendly and accommodating!!! I got a Brazilian and a lip wax - and if you area regular wax-person like me - you have seen it all... Mirtha makes you comfortable and will chat you up :) She is VERY thorough!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE Mirtha. She is absolutely amazing. I came here for my first Brazilian and was kind of nervous. She talked me through the whole thing and made me feel at ease. I've gone back several times and have never had any blistering or negative side effects. She is very thorough and will even show you the roots so that you know she is getting everything out. This is not a super nice salon. It is a super small, hole in the wall gem that you wouldn't even notice if you weren't looking for it. Despite that, Mirtha is worth it! Mirtha is my go to girl for my Brazilian waxing!!! I first found her doing a search of craigslist years ago and I have been a loyal fan of her for 5 years now. The salon is in a small complex and there is nothing fancy about it at all. So if you are all about the ambiance and paying that extra dollar for the decoration, then this is not for you... Mirtha is an artist! I have been going to her since I was a teenager, and I have loved every trip to her salon. She does amazing French manicures, dye jobs, waxing, facials, and up-dos. All of which are at affordable prices. The salon is small, but you don't really notice that with the service you get, plus all the mirrors are great! Her facials, I must worn, are not for pansies. She gets deep down into your pores and cleans your face. After she is done, your face will feel as clean as it ever will. It leaves your face soft, clean, and fresh. You will feel like a different person. Her waxing is definitely her specialty. She has eyebrows down to an art. She also can get very creative with her bikini waxing... oh yes, and she does do the same for men as well (believe it or not!). I have gotten up-dos for formals in high school and have very beautiful photos because of her. She is a very talented woman. The products she uses in her salon are great. I especially love Tend Skin. At first I was nervous about coming here for waxing because the prices are so low -- It made me wonder what I was getting myself into. This lady gives you your money's worth. She will use the sugar wax for the frontal brazilian, regular wax for the side and back, and will also tweeze anything she missed and try to get some in-growns out. She is truly gifted and zealous about her work. Make sure you book an appointment with her and bring cash only. P.S. the sugar wax does not hurt. Seriously I didn't review? Ok, so I used to go to West LA to Nazyla's Wax Studio. She is fantastic and priced really well, she's just soo far. I'm a Long Beach local and Mirtha is a very sweet lady. This is a revision of my last review. I visit Mirtha frequently. I've tried other places before but no one can compare to her! With Mirtha I never have issues! When she's out of town or on vacation i'm in a world of panic!!!! There have been a few occasions that I've gotten a Brazilian Wax from other salons, I leave complaining! Once you've had the best you can't go back. Whatever is left behind she will go out of her way to pluck it out! Her technique is unmatched, superb, and prevents ingrown hair from forming. I currently still go to Mirtha, and I absolutely do not regret it! I love Mirtha, the job she does she does it with love which makes you feel completely comfortable when she's waxing. Not only does Mirtha wax but her facials are AMAZING! They aren't the type of facials in whicj they just put a mask on your face and there you're out the door, it's a full on facial where she gets all your black and white heads. So, I created this account solely to give a review on my waxing experience with Mirtha... She is a Brazilian waxing ANGEL, I swear she gave me life!! The salon is small but it's very clean. Through the whole process she's telling you what she's doing, what type of wax she's using, and why she is using it. She's so professional and just all around a great person, I felt like I knew her for years. I'm originally from Long Beach and I discovered her through Yelp. I'm in the military now and was home visiting family and after my experience, everyone that I know, knows about "The Sand's" Salon!! Whenever I'm in town this will be the place I patronize for my waxes, no other place will do. My $55 dollars was well spent ($65 with tip), I was blown away,!! I read all the reviews people have written about this salon. I was amazed by all the sweet things people say about it. There was one that was the opposite, I gave it a try anyway. She was the sweetest thing ever, and she was so talkative I didn't feel any pain! I walked out with a smile on my face. I was a happy hairless women. Mirtha knows her hair removal!! I went in to get a lip and eyebrow wax a couple of months ago and she did a great job removing the hair. I just called for a Brazilian wax appointment and she gave me great advice (based on the fact that shaving has been my primary removal method) that shows she is honest and knowledgeable. Based on what she said I am going to wait a month to get a waxing. Had I called anywhere else I might have been duped into getting waxed and seeing hairs the next day :-) This will be my waxing salon for as long as Mirtha is waxing! read more

I found Martha on this website "Yelp". For a BRAZILIAN WAX. I had two prior painful experiences with blisters on the last waxing. So I was kind of nervous. Martha was absolutely professional! I got waxed today I have no pain and she clean and neat. She was completely gentle it did not hurt but just a sting. I highly recommend her. I live in Yorba Linda and drive all the way to Long Beach to go to Mirtha for my waxing and facial (which is at least 32 miles one way) but Mirtha is worth it. During my regular day job, I work as a Safety Specialist for a federal agency. I read what Michele G. wrote about Mirtha and believe Michele G. is a luantic and I know she is a liar. I have been going to Mirtha for several years now and knows she practices safe hair removal at all times. I am a witness to this fact. She is the best there is and is a really wonderful person to boot. Very nice lady, excellent personality but she double dips when waxing vagina.. this is a health concern.. I watched her do my friend's wax and noticed she used the same waxing blade and re-dipped (at least 5 times)into the main container of wax several times. After seeing this I decided to pass on her doing my waxed.. She asked why did I have a change of heart. I shared my concerns of double dipping and putting women at risk for herpes, genital warts and other infections ..she lied, denied everything and tried to defend herself. I didn't want to debate but make her aware of the risk. I am very aware and knowledgable of what I saw. She also used a lighter to burn my friends vaginal hair.... crazy unhealthy....p.s im a gyn specialist and know the risk ..research double dipping and waxing with risk of infections ...this is only a fraction of what I saw... I can't believe I've waited this long to review! I moved to this area about a year ago and had to find a new waxer. Mirtha was the first person I tried and have been going back monthly ever since. She's quick and efficient and does a better job than most ritzy salons that are putting on a pretty show. She sets her prices based on the amount of work she has to do. I think this is more than fair considering people like me, who go every month, are less work than the summer clients. If you stay consistent than it's amazing what waxing can do. I can see how she could be a little intimidating for first time clients, because she's to the point. Regardless, she is great at what she does and has a lot of clients. She works on appointment only so call first. She doesn't even turn on the open sign because then too many walk ins show up, haha. I love Mirtha and she will be my waxing lady from now on.
