Did they have a lot of fun. YUP. Depending on where you are coming from its up the hill right as you enter hill country off of 290 from south austin. If you are coming from the west off 290 its headed towards south austin about 20min from Dripping Springs a few min past Belterra strip mall food area. Plenty of parking. Lots of seating on a Sunday around 12noon ish Thanksgiving weekend. No time limit on doing your chosen art. I tried glass making for the 1st and it was fun and challenging l. Instructions by the staff very useful! Friendly. Helpful. Welcoming. We each chose something different. Plenty of items small, med or large to chose from. Pottery comes with whatever pain you want, glass area there are easy and complex projects. You pay, they fire/bake the pieces and you show up about a week later to grab your pieces. We each got something around 40.00 or under. Time flew by. We were there for maybe 2.5hrs. My teens were not on their phones once. Engaged, creative, good family time. She walked us step-by-step through the process. Now, I'm not a crafty person, but I was inspired enough by the ambiance and overflow of art supplies to get some creative juices flowing. This guy helps you figure out what you need, how to get it done, and where to get the supplies. Then when you come back because you can't remember something he said, he helps you again. Patient, knowledgeable, and professional. You couldn't hope for more!

Sated Sheep is my fiber arts home. I picked up knitting again about a year ago, and I am so glad, and grateful, that Sated Sheep opened up in Dripping Springs. The rotating selection of yarns is beautiful, and the staff is always welcoming. I have had both Alison and Carrie bail me out of some serious project mistakes with their patient expertise. They have also helped me find projects, and recommended yarns. All of my favorite knitting projects have been planned and worked on at Sated Sheep. The community is so rich and inviting that I commute 30 minutes every Friday for the Knit A Long nights -- I wouldn't miss it! I visited The Sated Sheep yesterday for the first time. It's a lovely place, quiet and peaceful, with luscious yarns and fibers! Honestly, the fibers and other supplies are of excellent quality. There really is something for everyone. I also had a fun chat with the owner! She's very knowledgeable about fiber arts. The fun times/events she has lined up for Drippin' fiber fanatics is terrific. I can see this being the fiber heartbeat for many of the surrounding towns, too, not just Dripping Springs. Well worth the drive folks! read more

I love the Sated Sheep. Allison, (the owner), Carrie and Debbie are always helpful and friendly. The Sated Sheep carries beautiful yarn in all price ranges. They have a large selection of notions needed for your project. I took a crochet class from Carrie, and have now completed a hat, scarf, afghan, and shawl. Currently I'm taking a weaving class and have made a table runner and a dish towel. I went to the Grand Opening and LOVED it. What a nice shop. If you are in the area, go. they have lots of places to sit and knit. The lighting is great and the staff is super friendly. Now the yarn selection: that tends to the higher end, artisan yarns. I found a few lines there that I hadn't seen in other stores (like the possum blends from New Zealand). very good selection. What an excellent little shop! Much more intimate and less distracting than going to Joann's or another big box store. The little place was loaded with all sorts of great prints that I certainly haven't seen elsewhere. I quickly loaded up my hand with 14 different fat quarters, dreaming of projects that one day may or may not come into fruition. Such is the way! What I especially liked was the old school furniture tucked away in places throughout the store. I saw a couple of old Singers with their lovely polished wood, and they made excellent use of old cubbies for letter sorting. I'm a mild antique buff (rubbed off on me from my dad and his mother) and appreciate when something old finds a new home and use. The cubbies were filled with 4x6 postcards of fun quilts you could try, with the design on the glossy front and the instructions on the back. I believe these were free of charge, to help give customers inspiration. Too neat! There was an ample selection of colors as well as more exciting fabrics. Many floral designs and stately or muted tones of browns. Definitely good for finding a fabric to coordinate with but not detract from your main piece. I picked up a couple of plaids, which are always useful. There was a seasonal section (currently loaded with Christmas fabrics) that I imagine likely rotates throughout the year. There was a sale section for bolts that were running low, and cheapo $5 baggies of various fabrics that mix well. There was a section with felt and a small amount of flannel. Lots and lots and lots of bagged/boxed sets to choose from that have everything you need for a particular design (not my cup of tea-- designing my own piecing is highly satisfying to me). You'll also find other helpful items like thread, buttons, cutters, and the like. A space in the back with a large table for various lessons/classes (looked like there was one going on while we were browsing, but I didn't want to disturb them). There is a restroom available for customers as well.

Great customer service! And the price for pottery is fair - less than a few other locations we had looked at (e.g., Miguel's Imports; different review for that despicable man). The fountain was still expensive (~$500), but it is great quality and adds such a wonderful ambiance and beauty to our courtyard. DDs also carries a variety of imported furnishings, a very large selection of talavera, Mexican-inspired kitchenware, etc. We have been back several times since our initial shop to purchase various items over the past 8 months. Lots to look at! The people at Desert Dreams are really nice and helpful. If you can't find exactly what you're looking for at their store they will see if they can order it for you or won't even hesitate to recommend one of their competitors if need be. Highly recommend. Note: They gave us a small discount for purchasing multiple items at the same time.
