Came across Yummi Candles while leaving Restorative Hardware Cafe. It is a pop up shop on your…read moreright just a few steps north of RH. Yummi Candles are known to burn for hours. They are usually sold in bulk for events like weddings. They are also made in Canada. This pop up store is unique because they have a station to customize your own votive scented candles. The votive range from $6-8 which includes the scented candle of your choice. Like I mentioned earlier they usually sell their candles in bulk. In this case, you can't just buy one votive but you have to buy 6. You can choose 6 different scents. The staff here are really helpful and must have a good memory for scent. It takes about an hour for your custom votives to be ready. If you have time you can watch the process. I had bought a set of custom votives in the scent of tobacco and vanilla. I think whoever made my candles did not put enough of the oil in that I didn't smell anything! I had given one to my friend who also had a fragrant-less candle votive. We had it lit for hours! I took it back to the store and they offered to remake it for me but I didn't want to waste time to come all the way back if it was still the same. They were pretty good at getting the permission to give me a refund on my already lit candles. I would have given them a 5 star if I didn't have to return my custom votives. Their already made candles have no problems! The pop up shop is open until the end of the year. It would make a great gift for candle lovers. The thing is this place always has things like 3 for $12 or 5 for $20 or whatever the sale of the week or flavor of the month may be. This store makes you want to buy bulk. Recently they brought back my wife's favorite scent (London Calling) but they renamed it London tea and something or other. So she goes to town buying the plug in scents and some of the candles because the fragrance was discontinued some time ago to the point she was resorting looking to find them on eBay in desperation. B&BW... please for the love of all things don't get rid of London Calling or whatever it's called now. The last thing I need is my wife to scour the continent paying top dollar for this scent if it's discontinued again. Their coupons always have a way of enticing you to come back the following month to spend because they are always for weeks in advance. Thanks for making our wives addicted!

I have seen nasty consignors and customers there.. asking for discounts (it's already a discount store... ), arguing about the store consignment policy and pricing, etc - so I can see why this can lead to trouble. On a personal level, I dealt with a few of their staffers, and they went over and beyond to find my unsold items after expiry date. There's a review about "the Asian girl" (as one of the reviewers calls her)... super nice, actually. She called me on my cell to let me know she found them and had them aside for me to pick up. As a consignor.. the usual policy is like everywhere else. 55-60% to the store is standard for the mid-range. You only get 50% for super high end items, usually priced over $500 or so in places like VSP, etc. Sure they have to be picky when selective their merchandise; their objective is to sell the stuff they take, not to clean up your closet of everything you bring. The stuff is ok; yes, some are overpriced and I wish they went on sale more often, but this is not staff's fault. It's also about what you see as value. If you expect a Value Village, this isn't it (thank goodness). I had times when I left with tons of scores, and times when I left empty handed. Frankly, few of us need anything for the most part so it's impulse shopping like any other clothing store... I wish the store looked a little more creative, but at the end of the day, Winners isn't any better. Again, be open minded and kind and you can have a great time scouring.. :)

Prices are not the best in town, the Michael's just a few blocks down the street has things cheaper but I thought it's a small business I could support. However, the most recent trip made me definitely not wanna go back. I walked in to a customer talking to the owner at the checkout counter. I didn't pay much attention to them as my mind was fixed on getting the supplies I needed for my project. The conversation got heated and both parties raised their voices so I stopped to take a look. I saw the owner pointed his hand toward the door and said "out, out!" and she angrily left. When I was done with my shopping and came to the counter to pay, he smiled and said, in his very limited English: "black people, trouble trouble right?" It's bad enough yelling at a customer, it's entirely another level of rudeness to make racist comment to another customer. Am I apparently better than the other lady just because the colour of my skin?
