Some of the worst service I have ever experienced while paying $90 for 4 people to eat ok schnitzel in a gas station parking lot.

I had my initial hesitations thinking it might be some basic pub food. Who knew this restaurant out in Gravenhurst is better than many Toronto restaurants in the city. One of my fav meals in a while. The Oar recently undergone a new concept change to Lamorna. While they still kept the Oar as their name given the familiarity and reputation of the previous restaurant concept, the menu and indoor decor has completely changed with a new chef in the last couple months. The menu is farm to table and it rotates weekly, and I can really taste the difference, which explains the more premium but reasonable price. Note a burger will always be on the menu and we really like their dry age burger, rich and the accompanying (what looks like hand/in-house cut) fries are so delicious, I wouldn't mind ordering more on the side. We also dined at their outdoor patio so our pups could dine with us. They so kindly brought over a water bowl for the dogs too! Towards the end of the meal, chef Ben came out personally to greet us and we can feel the passion and care he puts into his food. We asked about how he came to this restaurant and his inspo for his food and he told us it's from his travels. eg. why the schnitzel is thicker because he enjoys the thick katsu he had from Japan. He told us he recently sold two of his restaurants and decided to head up this restaurant after his travels. The chef actually goes around and sources ingredients directly from the farms and locally. We also appreciated the fresh pasta and thick cut schnitzel. We also absolutely love the eggplant and the croquettes too. Actually everything we had was a highlight and that's rare for me to find all the dishes impressive at a restaurant. Highly recommend order their bread service so you can use the bread to clean up the sauces from the remaining plates, as it's not included by default. I also love the charm of the plates and cutlery. They open a box of different knives you can pick a knife to use all vintage/second-hand and gave the feel that it's from grandma's home. Highly recommend this spot! The attention to detail, quality and personal service makes this spot special.

We were more than pleasantly surprised to be offered some sophisticated options for starters and main course that were not menu options. With access to fine dining somewhat limited in Cottage Country we accepted the challenge. The starter was a perfectly cooked fresh Newfoundland scallop served with a delicate rich pesto toasted panko breadcrumb dressing. My main course was a homemade cappelletti pasta with fresh peas sautéed in a delicate sauce.. My companion ate from the menu with the Arctic Char which was slightly on the dry side, likely finished off in the oven, but fine by Gastro Pub standards. The wine selection was uninspiring and low range but relative to the overall dining environment so I went with a pleasant locally brewed beer and my companion an indifferent Ontario Chardonnay. Service was excellent, attentive and friendly. Outside dining was available but likely for more casual diners. Dining inside, for me being the preferred option, but on this occasion did tend to be on the the noisy side but that was down to the patrons. Nothing pretentious here, no doubt credit to the chef and staff . Definitely worth a visit and reservations although likely not 100% essential daytime are recommended for evenings . This place is an oasis in a desert of upscale dining.....worth at least a 25 to 30 km drive! The overall emphasis here is that this place is based and built on team work with the utilization of both local food and staff....it succeeds !

The best part it had very little sugar. Only if I had it warmed. The soup and wrap came quickly after. The soup had almost entire lentils which we assumed would be under cooked. We were wrong. The lentils cooked to perfection. The coconut milk creamy. A bit under seasoned for the Mrs, but I didn't mind. I did want some spice though. Added some black pepper but didn't do anything. The wrap with lots of salad greens and rice. Carrots and veggies. The rice and tortilla was warm. The service was good as well. The place has a small area for buying some nut milk and other stuff. There is also a shelf full of books for customers sit and enjoy.

We both had a "Canadian" pizza (mozzarella, pepperoni, mushrooms, smoked bacon, vine ripened tomato sauce) ... mine without mushrooms. They were good pizzas and we both took half back to our room to take home tomorrow. The servers were friendly but young and need more training. They seemed a bit panicked and neglected to check back on their tables. When we asked about the wine, our server couldn't offer any help. There are only 12 bottles on the menu ... 4 wine, 4 red and 4 bubbly. He said he didn't drink bubbly but he should have been told enough to be able to answer basic questions like which was more sweet/more dry. When we asked another server (because our server hadn't checked in on us) if we could take the bottle of bubbly back to our room, she didn't know and had to ask (I would think this would be something she would know given it's a busy resort). The woman delivering the food wasn't friendly at all.

Inside, one may order food and buy some knick knacks that are bohemian chic. There is also a clean washroom for one to use. I ordered a super bowl which was $17. The size was great, but I felt it lack some flavour and half the bowl was filled with quinoa. Not a big fan of it, I would have liked less quinoa. My partner had a veggie burger and he liked it. There was a spice kick to it. He wished it came with a side instead of paying additional for it. The following morning we returned to try their açai bowl for breakfast and it was delicious!! Frozen blueberries were provided instead of fresh berries. They could have used seasonal fruits. The crisp coconut pieces added a crunch to each bite. This dish, I would order again. They have a reward system if you sign up. Overall, a nice healthy place to stop by while one is up North enjoying some sports or a little get-away.

They said they would wait for us to arrive around 7pm even though that is when they close. The Service: The service was exceptional. I think the man working there was the owner because he went above and beyond to accommodate us. I have many food allergies and he let me sub out ingredients to create the perfect meal for myself and he was extremely patient as he answered all of my questions after hours. The Food: We ordered the number 2 and 5 and the employee threw in a sample of the Thai soup for us to try. Thai Soup: The Thai soup was fantastic! It was thick, had a kick of lemon that I love and tasted delicious. We loved it so much we wish we had bought two bowls to go with our meals. #2 Bowl; My boyfriend ordered this dish as is and added tofu as his protein. It came with a peanut dressing, which he said was fantastic. The portion he received was really big and it filled him up. #5 Bowl: This bowl was a Mexican inspired bowl. I subbed out the cheese, and pita chips for more guacamole and edamame. The portion of my bowl was a little smaller than my boyfriends dish but the food was really good. It was really filling and I loved how they could accommodate my diet. Next time I might try a tangier dressing than the ranch this dish came with because I love a kick of lemon or lime juice with my meals. Would We Go Back? Absolutely !

We were greeted at the front by the hostess and seated by our waiter. The patio set up was stunning and since it was snowing outside the fireplace warmed up the space. We came in at about 4pm which was on the tail end of lunch but beginning of dinner, so we were able to order from the dinner menu. We ordered the prime rib sandwich with lobster bisque soup, Caesar salad and miso glazed bone marrow. We were very disappointed when the bone marrow came out, we had thought it would be hot and easily spreadable but we were sadly mistaken. It was topped with a shrimp ceviche, caviar and micro greens. I felt the dish was two separate items smashed into one - the bone marrow was cold and chunky, tasting like you were eating chunks of fat mixed with the shrimp. We were interested in the Caesar salad because the waiter mentioned it was popular dish - but when this all came out, it looked & tasted like a regular salad. The prime rib sandwich wasn't anything spectacular and the lobster bisque tasted watered down. We finished off our meal with a London fog cream brulee which was delicious and a pistachio cheesecake. Overall we weren't fans of the food but we fell in love with the stunning decor & atmosphere.
