After many weeks vacationing up north and pretty tired of the same old fish and chips, the Schnitzel Parlour in Fredericton was a diamond in the rough find! We did not have reservations(highly recommended), but since we arrived literary at doors opening, the owner was able to squeeze two tired travelers in. This is a family owned business and you feel like family while being catered to. The ambiance is authentic german gasthaus! Their chocolate balsamic dressing was delicious! Schnitzel choices galore! And desert...well do i need to say more? We had the black forest cake... Our dinning experience was amazing. Simple and delicious food that makes your heart happy! Thank you!!!! read more

How have I gone so many years eating in Fredericton never having tried the Schnitzel Parlour?! The Schnitzel Parlour is an authentic German restaurant operating out of the ground floor of the owners' house. The owners are a German couple who have lived in Fredericton for a number of years now. In addition to being general chefs, they are also chocolatiers, making various chocolate products year round. When you walk into the restaurant, you immediately feel welcome and that the dining experience is going to be special. Instead of a big room with tons of tables, the space involves several smaller rooms each with a few tables. On sitting down, you can browse the menu which includes a story about the owners and their pet dogs. Wanting the full German experience, I started with a stein of beer. This was served with bread and crackers accompanied by a chocolate olive tapenade and a chocolate balsamic dip. I'm not a fan of olives, but the chocolate balsamic was delightfully fruity and rich at the same time. As a starter, the meals came with a house salad: simple greens topped with the chocolate maple house dressing. Prior to this visit, I would have guessed that a chocolate maple salad dressing would not work at all. However, when you have expert chocolatiers in the kitchen, you can trust their judgment. The dressing tasted of chocolate without being sweet or heavy, it almost took on a balsamic quality which shone against the simple salad backdrop. For a main dish, I shared two entrees: bratwurst with curry sauce and pork schnitzel with sauerkraut. Every component of the entree was fantastic, from the sharp sauerkraut, the sweet and rich curry ketchup sauce, the hugely portioned meat, and the homemade buttery spaetzle. My one regret was not saving room for dessert, as I imagine the cakes are just as fantastic. The service was incredibly friendly and personable. On a Tuesday evening in early September, the restaurant was not full up, but I understand they are often full, so I'd recommend making a reservation. They are only open at dinner time, from 5-8, five days a week, so plan ahead if you want to visit. I can't wait until my next trip back to Fredericton to visit this lovely restaurant again! read more

My fiancee and I were in Fredericton and happened to discover the Schnitzel Parlour by complete accident. This accident was destined to happen because we absolutely love German cuisine, and being German myself, regret that our hometown of Montreal has none to offer. The restaurant is located in the owners' home and for some reason is not promoted by the tourist office (note to owners: this needs to change). I have to start off by mentioning what an amazing, friendly hospitable host Uwe is. The food was just as fantastic. I had the large jäger schnitzel plate which does require a rather large appetite. It came with a side of homemade spätzle as well as home patates and veggies (which although appreciated is unnecessary given the value and quality already on the plate). My fiancee had the sauerkraut topped schnitzel with german sausage. All plates come with a small salad to start with homemade dressing of your choice. There is also an included appetizer for the table of bread with homemade tapenade and chocolate balsamic dip to start. Everything was incredible. The schnitzel was cooked to perfection and the breading was light, crispy with a kick of what I think was paprika and not a trace of grease on the plate to be found. We finished with a generous slice of hazelnuss torte. This was an absolute incredible find in a small town which seems to offer mostly pub fare in the downtown core. Take the word of a German: if you are in Fredericton, you owe yourself a visit to the Schnitzel Parlour! read more

Fabulous authentic German food. Went with my wife for my birthday and loved the food and atmosphere set in an older house, much like a gasthaus in Germany where I have lived for 6 years. If you like schnitzel, sausage and spaetzle this is the place for you. There house made salad dressing is also amazing. Took home some of thier truffles which are also worth the raves. read more

The Schnitzel Parlour is a cute spot on the North Side of Fredericton. It's ran out of the family home which only adds to the charm of the spot. Space is limited so be sure to make a reservation or come early. If it's a nice day I would strongly recommend a table on the porch. The service was friendly and the family story is interesting. The food was good, it wasn't the best schnitzel I've eaten but certainly the best I've had outside of Germany. read more

This family-run restaurant was a joy to visit. The food was amazing and the service was prompt and friendly. You sometimes have to park across the street due to the limited parking but it was well worth it. We both had schnitzels and they tasted the same as the ones I've had in Germany Austria and Hungary. The goulash was superb. We also finished off the evening with black forest cake that was made in the traditional fashion with real whipped cream. This restaurant is run out of the owner's house and you can tell there is a pride in providing authentic German food to this area. I would recommend this to anyone that would enjoy European home cooking. read more

I'm sorry but 20$ for a "regular" schnitzel?! You would never find those cheap vegetables or the side of breakfast potatoes in Germany. So not authentic AT ALL. The sauerkraut is most likely the canned one from superstore. For 20$ you can make supper for 6 people at home. And I'm from German so I know what I'm talking about. You want a authentic German meals? Google some recipes and make it yourself because this place way too expensive for the food you get. read more

An absolutely wonderful experience. From the phone interaction beforehand (call ahead for reservations) to the experience itself the service was wonderful! My wife and I were looking for a unique place to eat supper on a rare night without the children and this did not disappoint. We both require a gluten free diet, as well as some other food allergies, which makes eating out difficult at times - but not here. They understand and accommodate for food allergies better than most. Delicious schnitzel, and the truffles were amazing. read more

Not particularly good German food. The reviews make this place seem very appealing and the staff are charming, but the food does not taste home made. I guess YELP has not caught up in the Maritimes provinces yet so let me give the nice family establishment a hand. Nice family owned and operated German restaurant. I am not a German food maniac but when I have it I love it this good. Goulash soup has a lovely flavour and taste to it. Salad with homemade chocolate maple dressing (they are chocolatiers after all) packs a delicious taste. No need for dessert with this dish. Simply lovely . You love great and I mean great schnitzels drag yourself down here, cross the river for this tasty experience. Could not make up my mind on what to have so server suggested I go for the "cannot make up my mind" schnitzel! Pick three sauces of your choice... Went for Hungarians, bavarian and hunter. Still at the end of it, I still could not make up my mind on which I preferred. Man it sucks...LOL Black Forest cake could hardly be more authentic. We were only in Fredericton for one night, but had we been there for any length of time would definitely have come back at least once. The food is classic German cuisine, well prepared, fresh, and delicious. The desserts were also great - the Black Forest cake was delicious and not overly sweet. We arrived in town. Found Schnitzel Parlour on Yelp..., Delightful place. My first introduction to schnitzel was scrumptious... crispy, smothered in onions, with apple slices. Salad was chock full of fresh greens and assortment of vegetables. Finished with yummy chocolate marshmallow ice cream. Friendly accommodating staff.
