    Spicey schnitzel sandwich

Great little family run business. The schnitzel is so juicy and tender and couldn't be fresher. Been twice and can't wait to go again. Had the spicey both times.

Schnitzel parm. Underneath is enough fries to feed a peewee baseball team. The schnitzel itself was bigger than my head. It also came with red cabbage salad. Everything was so delicious. And the prices are very reasonable. It feels like going to an old fashioned summertime stand.

In a word... awesome! The schnitzel sandwiches are HUGE, schnitzel is crispy and perfectly cooked, fresh cut fries are also great! Plan to have leftovers... The Schnitzel Shack is just a small place, nothing fancy. Just go to the counter and place your order, staff are friendly, food is prepared pretty fast. If it's busy, they'll give you a beeper to let you know when your food is ready. Tried the pork schnitzel and farmers schnitzel sandwiches, both were excellent. I've heard great things about the Schnitzel Parmesan, definitely going to try that next! Highly recommended.

    Damn good schnitzel

Excellent schnitzel place! My sandwich came with four super crisp perfectly breaded layers I got the version with gravy and onions and we also got poutine fries in size medium. Everything was really good but you need to eat it there and the problem with that is they have wasps and the wasps were very aggressive. If they can figure out something to do about the WASP situation they probably would have been a perfect meal.

Must try if your looking for food near Port Hope or interested in trying authentic Schnitzels! This place is a gem, it has a cute old-school storefront with a German flag outside and a cosy patio (that wasn't open, we did take out) . The portion sizes are huge and the schnitzels are super tasty, breading is perfect! Just a caution to vegetarians, the sauerkraut side also had bacon bits.

    Holy size if this sandwich

found a new place to stop on my way to Toronto. The schnitzel is thinly slices with amazing flavor...and the portion is huge Definitely a place I'll stop again...:)

Probably the best kept hidden gem of port hope. It is located in a corner close to the main strip. It is a small place ran by the owners. There is a small parking lot. Upon entering, you see a blackboard with the menu and 5 bar stools for you to sit down. If you think you are coming here for a sit down meal, this is not the place. This is a take out place but the portions are hugggggeeeee! The take out trays are extra large. You will barely be able to finish the whole thing. I chose the hunter and it was more than enough schnitzel for me. You can also choose a chicken schnitzel, but who does that! You want the original pork schnitzel. For this price, you can't beat it. You can get the regular schnitzel or add a few things. Total price came out to be about $14 total. Amazing price deal. I would come again if i ever come back for fishing.

I found it greasy and tasteless, and the inside of the "shack" smelled like old oil. I was quite disappointed.

It was a Sunday night. Our reservation was at 6P. We left at 5P. It took us 35 minutes. Great meal. Started with the goulash. The beef had been pounded and was small and tender like the potatoes and carrots. I opted for minor spicy. It was served very hot and was perfect. We've had goulash at Grundel in Hungary, and this was comparable. We both had the pork wienerschnitzel, which came with fried potatoes and a smidge of red cabbage. The pork was divine. We've had wienerschnitzel across Central Europe, and this one was perfection. The sprinkle of dill added a nice mild tang (great touch). The portion of pork was not huge, but you get plenty of taters. My lovely had the apple strudel for dessert. I had the crepe stuffed with jam. Both were incredible. I paired mine with the Viennese coffee, which could have been served a bit hotter. It was tasty, though. I also had the berry spritzer and a shot of apricot brandy. The first was refreshing; the second didn't taste very apricoty. Parking is immediately in front of this gem. Wonderful meal expertly prepared. A bit pricey, but worth every penny. Highly recommend.

I mistakenly came upon Town Crier Pub due to some marketing miscommunication on my part. I saw a lovely lunch special sidewalk sign and thought it was for them, but it was actually for the restaurant next door! However, I was already committed, and I always loved pubbing. Opened in early 2011, it was named after the historical role of town criers who served as the primary news source in medieval times. With the general theme of Belgian and German styles, its owners believed that European beers and news were linked. Would I be crying in my beer at this pub for entering the incorrect eatery in this town!? PURCHASE(S) Hacker-Pschorr Munich Gold Lager Beer 5.5% ABV 20floz Draft ($11.50CAD): Golden amber color, aromatic malty aroma, low body, malty sweet flavor, clean smooth finish, and malty aftertaste. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=Oks3ELRLtUfkwpMwMfZ7YQ Town Crier Burger + Add Cheese ($17.00CAD + $2.00CAD): A simple burger made with prime rib beef patty, lettuce, pickle, red onion, and tomato on a lightly-grilled bun with an added slice of cheddar cheese, it was a sizable burger and did the job, but there wasn't anything special about it. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=XV6Yy6lwP5yngWkIFicroA [ONION RINGS/STRAWS/STRINGS ALERT - 3.5 of 5.0 STARS] Substitute Onion Rings ($3.00CAD): A good side portion with many rings of generally uniform size, these were hot, lightly golden browned, semi-crunchy, and had a tendency to crumble when bitten into while the onion ring (not sweet Maui) pulled out at times. Although they were somewhat oily, they were good, and didn't come with any dipping sauce. Innis & Gunn Mangoes On The Run Fruited IPA Beer 5.0% ABV 20floz Draft ($11.00CAD): Dark strawberry color, fruity mango tropical aroma, low body, fruity hoppy mango sweet flavor, smooth finish, and slight bitter fruity mango tropical aftertaste. This was my favorite of the two for obvious reasons! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=_MZhEukjAcdC0Qfo4P2Kaw SERVICE I was happily greeted by a young host outside on the sidewalk who then directed me to a nice outdoor patio table perfect for people watching and the weather. He handed me a massive menu, supplied a glass of water, and soon enough I placed my order. My beers arrived quickly while the food took about ten minutes. He checked in often while we chatted throughout the time. It was a cool hang out for lunch - danke! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): I was in the area all day for the start of the Toronto International Film Festival, so I simply walked. Otherwise, there were spots along the main drag of John St. and all surrounding streets, some nearby structures, numerous public transportation options, and rideshares - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A cozy snug layout throughout, inside had a loungey warm feeling with a focal bar with a few stools https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=LZIKI_6GFVgLIPXXkbrICA and many closed-in tables; whereas, the outside patio was less formal but equally compact. Inside was very ornate of Belgian and German styles, while outside was casual and simple. Minimal natural lighting entered inside through the few windows and door opening and of course plenty outside while dim electric ceiling and table lights filled in both areas. There were no TVs nor any background music because chatter was everywhere. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=bYpvTBTNnDqaLvrEqNtYtA ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Town Crier Pub had me laughing, talking, and people watching for a relaxing afternoon and would gladly return. The number of beers available both on tap and in bottles was insane and I loved it! The food menu was expansive. The food was fine but nothing special, and the prices were relatively comparable. But, it was the service and staff that literally reeled me in for a good time. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $50.00CAD BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...
