Hitting the local dive shops in search of snorkeling gear for an upcoming trip. Nice shop, lots of diving stuff & help when we needed it from the friendly staff. But alas it's the basics we're looking for. A nice selection of masks and snorkels. A lot of them fit me well so choosing was easy. Didn't find fins that I liked but they did have a decent selection. To be fair I used to dive & instruct and already have an idea of what I'm looking for so I tend to be picky. We were satisfied with what we got and wouldn't hesitate going back for any other gear we might need. read more

This is the best dive shop in the area! The gear is very well maintained, the staff are super friendly and professional, and the diving instructors are so experienced! Diving in the Blue Hole was so much fun! The wetsuit keeps you warm, and they decorated the bottom of the Hole for Halloween. I can't wait to take more classes! read more

I went with my kiddo and my friend and we had the BEST experience. We had a difficult schedule and a deadline to be certified by and they went above and beyond to make it work for us. Sorry but I'm not a fan. This is actually the first time I will write such a bad review, but my story tells it all. Poor customer service and poor communication. I took them my gear for repair months ago. Finally called them 2 mo later to get a status update (I mean come on, you can't call the customer?). So my gear is old and the can't fix the BCD but think they might be able to find a part for my old regulator. Months go buy (and I even forget they have my gear). I stop by to ask the status, figuring its likely done. Well it's not! The guy still hasn't found the part at his house to fix it, ugh more waiting. Finally got a call that it was fixed, yay! Dropped the gear off in early spring and just now got is back. I will never use this place again! read more

This is by far the best scuba shop in NM. Wonderful friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the instructors are the very best! I dove for 10 years until 1993. It depends on who is in there depends on the service you receive. The shop does not have a lot of options or gear. I would think for diving in NM they would have warmer gear. Not a lot of gear for women. I am sure you can order gear but I can do that online also. It's okay in there. read more

I'd have to agree with the other poor reviews. I bought a pair of booties to replace the pair that I couldn't find. Over the weekend I found my pair, not even have opened or tried on the new pair. I went to return the pair I bought (with receipt) one week later, only to be charged a 20% restocking fee. I literally walked over and restocked the boots for them but to no avail. Ontop of that, they offered my infant son a small stuffed turtle to play with. He threw a fit when they took it away, so they turned around and charged me $18 for it. This isn't the only game in town. Go somewhere else; I will. read more

No locally owned business isn't without its quirks. Hey, we live in Albuquerque. Is SCUBA equipment expensive, yes. Does the Scuba Co sell equipment at MSRP, likely. Need a cheaper hobby, try knitting. I promise it won't be as much fun. However, if you are going to take up SCUBA, this is the place to do it. The instructors empower their students to learn, engage and understand the principles behind diving in an incredible accessible way. Through my two certifications, the instructors gave me the competence and confidence to not only dive but love doing it. I found the staff to be helpful in helping us select some snorkeling equipment, but discovered after our purchase just how inflated their prices were (almost double from online). We returned part of our purchase 4 days later and were charged a 20% "restocking fee".. Seriously? $25 to put it back on a shelf??? As a result, we will not be returning. Pricey, but we do live in the desert. Steve was the counterperson, and I believe partial owner, and he was totally helpful. I was looking for a weight belt and no sports places in Santa Fe handle scuba or diving supplies, so this was the defacto place to go. Weights are damn pricey tho! When I started looking to get my certificate in scuba I looked all around. After researching I went to the Scuba co. It was great very informative. I felt safe and informed. Over the next 5 years going there I have seen the company grow and has continued to get even better. Two people there Yasmany and Michaela have taken the shop to the next level. I found this place to be very expensive. I am new to the area and came from DC where everything is expensive. I also found it odd that they didn't rent a rig with a dive computer. I had to reteach myself how to use dive tables. Also their gear was pretty beat up. The people In the shop were nice but didn't seem overly informative about local dive locations. I became open water certified last year with Scuba Co and had a great experience! Brian, the instructor, made sure we learned the skills while keeping the experience enjoyable. I had a difficult time completing the portion of the class where you take your mask off under water and putting it back on. Brian was patient with me and kept encouraging me to not give up. This place used to be great, but now it's the worst. There is an old guy that works there and every time I've gone in he just blatantly stares at my chest while I'm trying to get help buying gear. He also told me that women aren't really "suited" to scuba diving and are better off keeping their bikinis on the beach. I guess he's a manager or owner or something because the other staff just looked uncomfortable and walked away. What a jerk. Also, the last suit I rented was full of mold. Gross. read more

Four months ago we, two 63 yr old women, contacted The Scuba Company about certification in anticipation of an extended-family dive trip. We had such a positive experience that in addition to the Open Water certification, we went on to get the Advanced and a few specialty certifications to boot. Our trainers, Rebecca and Yasmany, and their crew of master divers were exceptional. They were all exceedingly generous with their knowledge, time, support and love of the sport. When we decided we wanted to get our own equipment, they gave us sage advice, put together great deals to meet our needs, and worked overtime to get it to us in time for our trip. On our family trip, we did boat reef and cenotes dives, and a dive with Bull sharks. Given our training, we knew our equipment and what to expect. We were prepared, relaxed and ready for adventure! My wife and I recently purchased relatively complete SCUBA kits from The Scuba Co., including regulators, BCDs, computers, and wetsuits. We found the staff to be knowledgeable, professional, and cordial, especially Pierce. Other reviewers note that equipment from The Scuba Co. is expensive, but I think the pricing issue is more nuanced. If all you need is a mask, snorkel, and fins, you can find it cheaper elsewhere. I believe The Scuba Co. is charging MSRP, just like every other dive shop I've patronized. Quality SCUBA equipment is expensive because your life depends on it. I buy some merchandise on-line but not SCUBA equipment, I want a local store with a qualified technician to service my equipment, and where I can try on different equipment, such as a wetsuits.
