While the storefront is friendly and a good place to buy treats. I DO NOT recommend this place for grooming. I took my Pekingese to be groomed, which was quite expensive--$165 is more than I pay for my own haircut--and it took them 3.5 hours. My husband specifically requested a groomer named May and showed a photo with clear grooming instructions at drop-off. However, when we picked up our dog, he had been groomed by someone else who was never given the instructions we requested. A bait and switch. We explicitly told the groomer DO NOT CUT HIS LONG EARS. Yet, when we picked him up, his beautiful long ears had been cut and thinned. To make matters worse, there were multiple dread-like tangles of residual hair they had trimmed but didn't even bother to comb out (see photos). We requested a smooth puppy cut, but what he got was a choppy, irregular mess with long shaggy patches all over his body and no discernible shape. (See photos) The underside of his paws still had excessive fur around the pads and the close shave around his anus (no picture) is frankly unattractive. While they gave him an adorable scarf post grooming, this is far from the high-end, expert grooming suggested by the price. I normally go to Easy Wag but couldn't get an appointment this week. Now I know it would've been worth it wait. I do not recommend grooming services here. read more

Just got a labradoodle and was always a boxer dog mom. May took great care of us for Rosie's first baths. She gave me a detailed account of the bathe and had me bring her back in (free of charge) a few days later to get the hair plucked from her ears (was too painful for her). I'm really happy to find The Seaport Paw since I've moved downtown! Everyone I've spoken to and met with is extremely friendly and professional. They are gentle with my pup - which helps A LOT considering how anxious he can get when he realizes I'm leaving him with a stranger (can you blame him? lol). Been to this place a few times, while they do a great bath and have very nice customer service if you are looking for a specialty breed cut such as a Poodle, it's not their specialty. They cut my dogs face in patches and way too short in some areas, totally not even and made him look ridiculous for 10 days while it grew back. What's worse is the response we received once complained, basically stating we're not welcome to come back. Basically they would not admit the groomer cut him poorly, even though it's pretty clear with the black circles around his eyes making him look like a panda and the uneven white patches he has. All we asked for was a partial refund being that they charged $150 for a BATH and face shave (can't imagine the price for a full groom..). Ridiculous as we actually planned on bringing him back and simply not allowing them to cut him. Lost customer on their end. I took my 6-month puppy to Seaport Paw for his haircut with May (co-owner). The initial cut, attention to detail and overall reception was warm, but that was short-lived. The second time, I had the same haircut request, but I specifically requested for them not to shave around his butthole. Charlie (my puppy) was returned to me with a shaved butt hole). May admitted it was her error, apologized and offered a discount on the cut. Believing that it was sincere, I took the discount and walked out not so happy with the cut, but understood mistakes happen. I decided to give them another chance, but found that May would not take Charlie (12lbs Maltipoo)!!! So BIZARRE, since they CLEARLY made a mistake and admitted to it. There was no drama. I think the surge in the puppy business with COVID is making May forget that she is running a customer business and business is cyclical. I am happy to take my business elsewhere! Got him back and they just bathe him and barley cut his hair. All of his hair ended up getting matted which never happens. Also noticed a rash on him. Best groomer and people ever! I can't believe I haven't written a review sooner. I used to live on the Upper East Side and I absolutely LOVED my groomer there. I was really comfortable with them and I knew they too good care of my babies so I was really worried about bringing them to a new groomer. But when I met May the owner of The Seaport Paw I just knew by her cherry, kind and animal loving disposition that my pups were going to be in good hands. My pups are (were) seniors. I say were because one recently passed away. The last year of his life he went blind suddenly. He was very scared when he became blind and I couldn't believe it when May sent me a video of him totally calm and relaxed while she was grooming him. He was seriously being pampered and he was loving it! Even though he was blind he totally trusted her and felt so comfortable it literally made me cry. They did a fabulous job grooming my border collie-Pomeranian mix. The past couple times i took him for grooming other places he had diarrhea after - probably from stress. Not here, and you can tell they really took their time and took good care of him. Four paws up for Seaport Paw! The entire staff is really sweet and attentive, and my girls (two adorable shih-poos) always look cute as can be after getting groomed by May or her brother Joe. I first found out about Seaport Paw when I saw a guy walking his dog on the street--his shihtzu had the most adorable freshly groomed look that I just had to stop him in the street and ask what groomer he used. The Seaport Paw happens to be one of the closest dog grooming places to my apartment... Unfortunately. I have given this business several chances to groom my two dogs and I have been continually disappointed. The groomers seem unexperienced, and the only interest seems to be to get the clients in and out the door and get their money. I have had a few good experiences but the bad ones outweigh the good by far. They often do not take the time to clean the ears properly do their nails properly clean the private parts properly, and the haircuts are often uneven and a half job at best. read more

I would give negative stars, but that's not possible. I had the WORST experience with my two dogs at Seaport Paw last Tuesday. I brought my dogs to get groomed and was emailing back and forth with the girl at the front desk about a) how my dogs were doing and b) what time to pick them up because I had to leave work midday to get them. 4 hours after I had dropped off my dogs, even though I had been emailing with them, they called me and told me to pick up one of my dogs immediately and to take him to the vet. Apparently, his eye was hurting and they 'stopped grooming' to be safe. After I ran over, picked up my dog, and carried him to the vet, we found out that he had a really bad eye infection. He had nothing wrong with his eyes prior, so it was due to grooming that his eye got injured. He had also NOT been groomed even though he was there for 4.5 hours and I was scheduled to pick him up in just 30 more minutes. My dog's eye was bloodshot, he couldn't open it, he was crying when we went to check it out, and he was shaking. I ran to the vet with him in my arms. Literally RAN. I asked the girl at the front desk to talk to the owner / manager immediately and was told she was out of town and would be back the next day. I asked to review the security footage in the groomer section of their space. I went to speak to her the very next day to understand what happened, talk about next steps in terms of my dog's additional vet visits, and to see the security videos. She told me that there are no security cameras in the back and that they didn't do anything wrong to my dog. Not only is this terrible for the pet owner, but also for the safety of their groomers. What if a dog attacks them or the groomer gets hurt, how would they hold anyone accountable? I went to the back of the store to the check it out the groomer section since they didn't have an office, cameras or anything, and was shocked to see that it wasn't clean and all of the groomers had their cell phones on their stations. When I pointed this out, they told me that 'they have their phones out to look at pictures of dogs for inspiration'... I'm vehemently against being on your phone when taking care of dogs, especially when you have sharp objects in your hands.. The groomer had also contacted my vet and requested additional information on my dog's health history, without my permission, knowledge or consent. A few months ago, I had asked my vet for suggestions on allergy meds for both dogs, and the groomers used that email chain to tell me that my dog's eye injury was not caused by them, but that it was his allergies and that 'he did this to himself'. What bothered me THE MOST was that they didn't want to take responsibility for injuring my dog. Apparently, eye infections at the groomer are not that uncommon and I really would have appreciated something like 'hi, we're so sorry about your dog, we love him and all dogs, and we got soap in his eye, accidents happen, but we're so sorry!', and I would have really respected this and actually understood it. But the fact that they were on the defensive immediately REALLY bothered me and made me question their honesty. A week later, I found a scab from a cut on my other dog. In conclusion, I will NEVER ever EVER go back to this place and will tell any and every dog and pet owner to never step foot in this groomer or store. If you love your fur baby, don't go here. I love my dogs more than anything and when I go to a pet groomer, I want them to be 'dog people'. Accidents can happen. Dogs move, you can't predict them, but be honest about it and don't blame it on the fact that months ago he had allergies or blame it on him for doing this to himself. They're there with them and are responsible for their safety. My dog had to have an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye ointment for a week and wear a cone. I'm incredibly disappointed in this store and am so grateful my dogs aren't more hurt or blind after this terrible experience. read more

The groomer did a great job on my dog even though he's quite a biter and can be hard to handle. He's clean, well-groomed, and both the groomer and receptionist were nice women. I want to give them 5 stars for their work, but my problem was this (hence I'm giving 3 stars): It was promised that I would have my dog about an hour and a half after dropping him off, but after calling several times with an hour to an hour and a half between calls, they kept telling me I'd have to pick up my dog at a later and then even later time. I had a shift for my evening job which I couldn't make because it took 4 hours to get my dog groomed (instead of the 1.5 hrs), and I was fired for being unable to show up. Obviously, this place couldn't influence my employment, but if they at least let me know that it would take a while in the first place (because they were understaffed and overbooked), I would have changed my dog's grooming appointment for a later date where I at least would have had time off in case they got busy again. I sincerely think they do a great job grooming the dogs, but this situation got me flustered AND fired. read more

The best groomer in NYC!!! We have a 4-lb. yorkie who is a high-strung anxious little thing. We've brought him to a few other groomers in Manhattan but never felt comfortable that they were giving our Maxi the extra care he needed. If you love your dog, do NOT take them here. I was specific to request a booking with her usual groomer for a haircut. As usual he greeted me when we came in, and asked about what I was looking for - I requested our usual asking for a trim, not to take a lot off, to leave her face hair (i.e., ear fringe), and to style her back leg "pants," and remove knots/mats. (she's a papillon). When I picked her up, a different groomer brought her out - her hair was short, nearly all of her her face fringe was cut off, her tail was cut, her back leg were cut haphazardly, and her abdomen was shaved. In addition, she was shaking nervously. It turns out, they handed her off to some other groomer, she didn't know how to cut papillons, they didn't listen to me when I came in. On top of it, they wanted to charge me for this, offering a discount next time instead, even after talking to them about how upset I was. Why would I EVER come back? I had to fight with them to remove the charge. This is not the way to run a business, or how to treat customers. Get with the program. Update: looks like they charged my card anyways. I was long overdue for bringing my puppy back due to her suffering another injury, but May did her magic once again! My puppy freaked out a little bit in the beginning, but aside from the usual excitement to see me at the end she was calm as can be. Between May and her brother, they were able to get my puppy brushed out and fluffed up looking super cute. Since my puppy is matting pretty badly, May actually recommended I bring her more frequently to brush her out and the owner Amanda accommodated me by not only helping me to get situated with my puppy's brush out schedule but reassuring me that there was flexibility to add a bath in a pinch in the case my puppy decided to get super dirty (she is a white dog and it is NYC)... so that's a big win for me! Amanda was also super helpful in fitting my puppy with a new collar since she's getting more fluffy and out fluffed her old collar! She now has a super cute red-striped Salty Paw collar which pops against her white fur! I'm still pleased that my puppy is doing well with May, I'm glad that it continues to be a positive association for my small but high energy puppy! read more

I passed by this place while walking my dog about a week ago. We looked around and it seemed incredible, so many unique treats. I decided to take her there yesterday for her birthday (they have dog friendly ice cream so I couldn't resist!). But when I came by the shop at 6pm with my dog, it was closed. Seaport Paw is by far the best groomer in all of New York. They are incredibly loving, warm, and gentle and always have the dogs wellness and security/safety at heart. Their team of groomers are highly skilled and know how to achieve master cuts specific by breed flawlessly. For days following our dogs groom, people stop us all over Manhattan to comment on his perfect hair cut. The owner May is incredible. She loves each dog like her very own and treats each client like family. It's such a special place especially in such a big city. Appointment scheduling is very easy and pricing is very reasonable for such superior service. We drive down from Chelsea two times a month. We would drive 50 miles just to have our dog groomed here. May and the entire Seaport staff have always been incredibly accommodating and extremely kind when opening their doors to let us host fundraiser and adoption events in their store. They have been a wonderful support system in helping me host "Pups N Coffee" events throughout the years and I wouldn't have the ability to raise awareness for these animal shelters without their continued support when providing event space. Pups N Coffee recently hosted our "3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt" at the Paw which was a major success! We were able to raise donations for Badass Brooklyn and welcome 50 pups and their family members to the store for coffee hour and a fun egg hunt! So grateful to the Paw team for allowing us to continue building a strong pup community and opening their doors during busy grooming hours in order to help us out!
