We were looking forward to our lunch since it had a good review and the prices and selection looked great. The food was mediocre. We order chargrilled oysters and they were not cooked well and were not as seasoned as they should be. Next, a shrimp Povoys and fried catfish. The food arrived cool-warm. The fish was over cooked and tofu as were the shrimp. We were hoping to savor the local seafood at it's best but we're disappointed as the food was nothing to write home about. They have a pick-up window if you want to take your seafood home to eat. I had the fried catfish and it was a huge portion. I had a side of onion rings and they took up most of the plate. So I couldn't leave LA with out a proper seafood meal. So I ordered boiled blue crab- little over cooked but overall good. Soft shell crab- this was my first time trying it- I wasn't a fan but I think that's just my personal taste. Fried boudin balls- excellent, fried crab balls-excellent, grilled cheese- excellent- Cole slaw and sweet potatoes. All good! Would definitely go back again. read more

Me and my daughter dined here for dinner. We started our meal with a dozen charbroiled oysters which was served with bread. They were delicious. I ordered the shrimp pasta and she ordered the frog legs with potato salad. My shrimp pasta wasn't that great, the pasta was over cooked and the dish was rather bland. Her frog legs were cooked perfectly but it was lacking seasoning also. The star of our meal was the potato salad, hands down the best potato salad we have ever had at a restaurant. For dessert we ordered the pecan pie. It was served broken up, very poor presentation and the crust was soggy underneath. The dining room was pretty clean and our waitress didn't check to see if I needed anything and I was quite thirsty with an empty glass for quite a while. I like being able to drink while I'm eating a meal. Our meal cost $60 plus the tip which isn't bad for an appetizer 2 entrees a dessert and 2 drinks. I doubt we will return. read more

The service was good and quick which gets it to a 3 star. My waitress was friendly. However, the fried shrimp had an unusual taste, the fries were warm (not hot), and the fried crab claws had a similar unusual taste. I'm guessing it came from the oil being used. In town for job training and looking for boiled crawfish, this place hit the spot. We'll be back if we're in town looking for seafood. The crawfish were boiled just right and they were a decent size. DH had the fried crawfish with a side of red beans and rice and he said they were really good. Food was tasty and the service was great! I got the all you can eat snow crab legs and it wasn't bad but it was small. However i did have oysters and it was delicious, fresh and big. The servers were awesome and so friendly. i will definitely be coming back for the .50 oysters. read more

I moved to Texas 30 years ago and married my soul mate. She loves my Cajun heritage and we celebrated 27 years of marriage this weekend. We stopped at The Shack and had Fried shrimp, duck with ginger sauce, oysters, hamburger steak w/ onion gravy, catfish, crab stuffed jalapeños, fried sweet potatoes and some cocktails. The waitress Claire was very friendly, fast, and attentive to our needs. We sat next to a elder brother and sister having a dinner together and really enjoyed talking to them. We have eaten here several times and have been satisfied each time. Food has been great without complaints. Service was good.

The only reason I tried this place was because my front desk lady recommended this to me, even it was not close by! The food is very like long johns & staff does not care. They gave me a fried platter without any sauces and when I called it said you have to either come by and get it. It's like getting chicken nuggets without any size just picture that. When I had specifically asked for seafood sauce and something else. I called and asked for the manager and they said she was not in and I'm still waiting to hear from her. I have heard so much about this place and they said the food was really good. So I decided to try it out on my lunch break (only 30min) and I got here at 12pm. Granted it is lunch time, so yes I understand it being busy....but to have to sit and wait for the entire 30min is totally unacceptable and the fact I have to ask about my food is not a good look,for the staff or restaurant. I ordered stuffed crabs with steamed veggies and red beans and rice. I am now disappointed with everything and have lost my appetite cause my food took sooooooooooooooooo long for me to get. This has been one of the worst experiences that I have had here in Louisiana. Very very very upset doesn't even begin to explain it!!!! It leaves the nastiest taste in my mouth. Also nobody from the staff ever came to check on me or to see if I needed anything at all!!! What kind of bullsh@t is that? Somebody needs to tell me cause I want to f@$!ing know!!! These people have irked my nerves to the point where if I could punch a wall, I would make sure they felt it. We spent night in Houma asked at the hotel where to go, and they sent us to the shack. Our waitress Telly was awesome we never had to ask for anything. She was amazing. We both got all u can eat crab , it was so good. Great place to eat. read more

Upon your first step into this true treasure of Cajun Country, you'll feel that you've just happened upon a secret place that the real locals consider to be the ONLY place to get some "like we do it at home" boiled seafood. I'm a local, 'an when I tell you, "I love pinchin' 'da tails 'an suckin' da' heads," I mean it, Chere'! But, I tell you, 'dere ain't no other place in South Louisiana 'dat has 'da flavor in 'dem crawdads like 'dese do! Down here we like to do it ourselves, at home wit' our family an' friends. Aw' Yeah! Da' men hang around da' pots stirrin' da' crawfish, shrimp, or da' crabs, jokin' about who makes 'dem 'da spiciest while 'dey enjoy a few beers. Da' women get da' newspaper ready on 'da table, make 'da dip, an' enjoy jokin' about 'dem men. We don't always have the time in our busy lives to pull off such an elaborate event. The Shack is the second best thing to our own "at home boil." If you're looking for a touristy, "sell you some souvenir keychains" fake folklore, chain-type-kind of place, keep looking because this won't be your place. Lots of food, good prices. We began with the crab balls (tasty amd spicy) and chased it with margaritas (yummy). My husband opted for the giant seafood platter and raved about the soft-shelled crab and oysters.We both devoured the home made onion rings, but I refused to share my butterfly shrimp and perfectly fried sweet potato fries. The only down side of the meal was the crab soup (too thick and lumpy). Although the flavor was good I sent it back and they graciously changed it out for seafood gumbo which was delish. Went for lunch on a Friday. We ordered the daily special, crab cake over penne pasta with shrimp cream sauce. It was terrible! So disappointed! The crab cake tasted old, the pasta and sauce was cold. The corn on the cob tasted old too! Before today, I'd never have believed the food here could be so bad. They were not too busy, but the service was not great either. There was loud profanities coming from a table to which most waitresses kept going to chat with them (one can easily see these were regular patrons). The failure by management to address the continuously loud F bombs, N words, and references to genitalia makes me believe that they are looking for drunks to visit the place, not families. read more

5 "to-go" orders were placed as we were working through lunch. A few salads and a shrimp platter, nothing complicated. It took the order about an hour to be ready. They did not give us enough utensils and there was a black hair in one of the salads. When we called the restaurant, they said "we are busy". I understand that there are days when the restaurant is busier than other days. They miscounted the number of utensils needed, no big deal. But to not acknowledge the hair in the salad or apologize for it is completely unacceptable! read more
