While the associate I worked with was lovely. My review is more based on the company and the quality of the item. You are not getting anything better than home depot or blinds to go. It's a fancy showroom made for you to feel you're getting a high quality product. DO NOT order any of the Del Rey material unless you want your blinds to change colors. See below how my blinds, WITH a darkening liner, went from brown to green. Company said I am passed the warranty time and only offered me a discount to purchase again. Do not get involved with this company. From the first time I walked into the store until 6 months later, when I received improperly manufactured shades for the 2nd time, this was hands down the worst retail experience I've ever had. i was lucky to get my money back; over on the BBB website , there are cases of people still asking for their issues to be addressed. Go elsewhere or find a local person to make custom shades for you but stay away from the Shade Store. read more

I would rate this company 0, but I do not have that option. We actually had a nice interaction initially with the store (Montclair, NJ) and liked the initial product that arrived. But, unfortunately, the product does not have longevity. We ordered 6 large motorized shades and in less than two years the motors went out on 2 of the 6. We have been trying to get replacement motors for months. It has been a litany of "I don't know's", "I'm sorry, we have to cancel's", "The parts are in, oh, wait, no they're not" etc. When the company says they will call you back with information, they don't. When they schedule an installation date and you take off work to be there to meet them, they cancel on the day due to the parts actually NOT being in even though they said they were. We have taken, I believe, 3 different days off work to meet them to have these parts installed only to have the appointment canceled on the day of installation. Please note, that everyone is nice and friendly, but NO ONE follows through. On an earlier order, different from the above order and before the motors went out, we had a custom blackout shade made. Upon installation, the blackout shade was defective. It took FOUR tries to get a non-defective shade. That means, we had to take off work FOUR times for the installation of the shade. How do you not inspect the shade before it leaves the facility, especially after the first one was defective, let alone the second and third? When the blinds work, they are great. But buyer beware! The product does not last, the product is often defective and the customer service is, for all intents and purposes, non-existent. It's really too bad, because we were very happy with the initial shades and installation, but The Shade Store has failed us at every turn since then. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience with this store. I bought a new home and spent over $8k at this place, service seemed great at first but the order was fulfilled in numerous delivery dates with incorrect products, duplicative products and multiple installation appointments. I complained and they told me they would correct the first of several mistakes - 1 week later they mailed me a notice they planted a tree in my name (their charitable tax donation, was somehow their idea of good customer service??) Two months later, I still do not have the shades they charged me for. This seems criminal to me. I've emailed them and called the store, left voicemails and no one has helped me. How does a store like this survive? I assume they are going out of business. I would stay away and am getting a lawyer involved - another waste of money. read more

I couldn't be happier with my experience at the Shade Store in Montclair. The store is lovely and has displays that allow you to see how many different textures, transparencies and styles would work. I worked with Tomiko, who, by the way, has exquisite taste and was exceptionally helpful as we worked together to look at colors and textures. I left well supplied with fabric samples and exact pricing with which to make my decisions. She also spent as much time as I needed when I returned to review my choices and was able to schedule a prompt appointment for measuring. I was pleasantly surprised to know that once ordered, it would only take about 3 weeks for delivery! I also want to note that both the measuring technician and the installer were SO nice, prompt and neat. What a pleasant experience! My blinds are now ( perfectly) installed. Tamiko was such a pleasure to work with - it was like she read my mind and knew exactly what to suggest, offering me several options of fabrics and styles to chose from. She made the process - from design to measuring to installation - stress-free and fun. Albert, the installation person, was on time, very friendly, efficient, and went the extra mile bagging his drill so there was minimal dust generated. He even gathered all the packing materials and offered to take it all down to my apartment recycling/garbage when the job was finished. I am so happy with my new blinds and drapes!
