Showroom is terrific, selection is comprehensive and Beth was a HUGE help from start all the way through purchase and installation! Needed motorized shades for a double-height studio window, and TSS was the only vendor who could do full-width rollers (as opposed to breaking it up into two). Now that it's installed it's like a dream - one touch of a button and the 18'-high space changes completely, blocks out the sun on hot days and brightens things up on cloudy days. This "specialty" merchant simply lacked the skill to create a fully functional set of three basic metal window blinds. In a year they made four attempts. The first time the blinds didn't fit. The next two sets had defective cordless tension mechanisms: upon release the second set snapped up to the top of the window and the third set fell to the sill. Clearly, the factory ships products without any quality control. The final order, sent with express instructions to the factory floor manager to test the blinds before shipping, was never delivered to me. It was sent to the Port Chester showroom where it remains. I was never able to find out what happened. If shoddy workmanship wasn't bad enough, the "customer experience" team was useless. They ignored my emails until prodded to respond by my design consultant who messaged them internally. Even then they were slow. In the end, desperate to end my relationship with TSS, I turned to my New York State Assembly Member who helped me obtain a full refund. As a final act of ineptitude, TSS took a month to post credit to my credit card account. Beware! TSS products may look pretty but they are trash. Very poor installation service although the team has been polite and professional it should be noted. This is a big company managing systems and not customers. There are 3 shades and close to $7k total. Note they will not schedule an install until after your order is delivered as I tried the day before delivery. The shades arrived in only a few days and have been sitting in my hallway for close to a month. I took the afternoon off to be home for my 2:30pm installation and the hours went by and at 4:20pm I received a call telling me that there's a delay and it's now between 4:30pm-6:30pm. I mentioned it'd be unlikely that they'd call me if it was 4:30pm and he agreed it's closer to 6:30pm to START the installation which apparently only takes an hour and they've charged me over $1,000 for the installation. I told the agent that it wouldn't work as I have a business dinner and we should reschedule. The next available date is May 1st! So I've cancelled my dinner and have lost a full day of productivity. I wish I went with an owner operated company or even looked at the online reviews. UPDATE at 7:40pm: They guys showed up and were extremely professional. They asked if it was OK to drill in the concrete and I said OK. Minutes later I received two noise complaints from my new neighbors as it's well beyond work hours. Additionally 2/3 shades were installed and the other was cut too short likely from the initial measurement done. So now the saga continues. I'm still without the blinds I paid for and again they'll be cluttering my hallway before installation. AVOID SHADE STORE AT ALL COSTS. UPDATE: I wanted to return all of my blinds based on this scam and I was informed that because it's custom returns are not accepted. Even though they HAVE NOT started making the third blind yet. It should also be noted that their customer service responded publicly to this post right after I wrote it last night and asked me to send her and email. It looks like they're "on it", but I wrote a long email and absolutely NO response yet. Not even a status on the replacement blinds. I've been venting with anyone and everyone who will listen and I'd go with Shades West if you're in NYC, they're owner operated and have outstanding reviews. UPDATE: Another day goes by and no response from Karissa Baboian who immediately replied to this online (see below) to make it look like they give a sh#t. I spent the time sending her an email as requested and not even an auto reply. I did get an update to schedule the replacement blind and it's over a MONTH away. They just don't care. I've been trying to get a refund as I want to send it all back for such a disrespectful farce. UPDATE: Another day and no response from Karissa or her team. I sent a note to the local store and the rep said "Are you serious that the next date is more than a month away for installation??? When will I hear from Customer Care?" and he has not responded either. In a previous message he said that I'm upset and he can't help me so forwarding to customer care. Our experience has been nothing but terrible. The store rep took 3 weeks to finalize our order. The installation appointment was provided 7 weeks out. Then installation is moved and subsequently cancelled with us being asked to self schedule another appointment for installation, earliest of which is now available a further 2 weeks out. People can get their houses built faster than what the shade store takes to install shades on your windows. Not to mention that we paid more than 5k for these premium shades. We have had a terrible experience dealing with the Shade Store on Columbus Avenue and their customer service department. In August 2024 we went to the Shade Store and ordered four living room shades, two roller shades for our den and two additional shades for our bedroom. The salesperson did not inform us that we would have to store the shades that were delivered piecemeal until installation. Nor did she suggest that we order a valance for the living room electric shades. The installer came on September 24th and said it was customary to usually have a valance. When he installed the shades, one living room shade was damaged, one roller shade had the pulley installed on the wrong shade. He filled out the paperwork to have new shades made. We went to the store to order the valance and asked that any additional instillation charges be waived since a valance was never suggested at the time of purchase and they had to come back for the damaged and incorrectly assembled shade replacements. It is almost two months later, and we have not yet received all the replacements shades and just learned that the valance was never ordered. Customer Service initially reached out to "offer us flowers for our inconvenience" and we told them we just wanted our shades! Numerous subsequent emails, phone calls and in person requests to the store where we initially purchased the shades to resolve this matter to the were unresolved. Calls to Customer Service, as well as the salesperson, and even express mailing a letter to the CEO of The Shade Store have been unanswered. We would like to this store like the plague! We would welcome hearing from the company to resolve this matter. read more

I wrote a review of the Shade Store a couple of months ago after six months of dealing with them (and $10K) and I am not too sure what has happened to that review and perhaps it was taken down. It would not be fair to them if I did not write an update of what happened yesterday with the booked (third) correction for a missing blind (of a pair) in the master bedroom. Initially, two blinds were ordered for this room. One turned up. Then with the remaking of the blind, the trim was incorrect. So two installations and one measurement meeting (three appointments) and still no blind. After waiting another three months, the appointment was for today to finally install the missing blind (the other one has been hanging in the window looking very odd by itself). I was informed yesterday that the blind is not made and the trim is missing. They did ask if I would like another trim - which is a bit difficult since the other blind is installed - a fact I pointed out for the n'th time. There are much bigger problems in the world than a couple of blinds and I should have given $10K to a charity rather than wait for this but given that this is a corporate buyout from a couple of guys from NJ, it just shows the dilemmas of expansion without service and delivery and the dangers that all consumers face. read more

I agree wholeheartedly with the customer who said she would give the product a very poor rating. I expected to end up with black out shades: not panels that let light in from either side. I expected to work with competent people and not end up with 2 seriously defective shades. Working with these people has been a nightmare and at the risk of more hassle (after 5 months), I requested that they cease and desist. Sales staff was helpful at all stages from selection through installation. One of my shades never shipped and Kate, my point of contact and the woman who worked with me in-store to help me choose my black-out blinds, chased it (it was lost!) -- they had it re-made and delivered in time for original installation date. The guy who came out to measure was very professional. The installers ran late but were very efficient and courteous when they got here. I got quotes from other companies and they were lower but I decided to go w/The Shade Store because Kate made me feel comfortable and I'm glad I opted to pay a little more and get the good service that I had a feeling I would get after talking w/her and getting her advice on selection. When my kitchen blinds wore out (clutch died), my husband and I decided to consider options on our local Shade Store, 313 Columbus Ave. We were warmly welcomed and expertly helped by the charming and knowledgeable Beth Inglesby. Beth turned what we'd expected to be a dull, annoying chore into almost a decorating party! We'd arrived with approximate measurements and some vague ideas. Beth listened and steered us to choices far more extensive than I could've imagined. She explained/compared/contrasted options, offered pros and cons of some swatches we liked, and ultimately sent us home with a packet of about a dozen swatches to "live with" to help us make up our minds. She suggested that we tape them to the window in question and observe how each one looks in daylight, in darkness, and with the lights on. Genius!!! By the next day, we'd made up our minds and signed up for a free home visit with a Shade Store professional to remeasure and confirm that the new shade would fit perfectly. [We also lucked upon a 10% discount (since ended)]. Beth walked us through every step, correctly a minor error on the original invoice, and followed up. I couldn't have asked for better service, assistance, and good will. The shade arrived as predicted, and will soon be installed. I strongly recommend The Shade Store, though this is the only location I can speak for. It's a wise idea to familiarize yourself with options on the company's website so you can go in with some ideas narrowed down. Otherwise it might be overwhelming! Even so, ask for Beth if she's available. Final word: The Shade Store prices are not the cheapest around, but the quality of their products seem durable and look great. read more

I worked with Paisley from the Shade Store, I couldn't recommend her more highly. I absolutely LOVE my roller shades, they are of high quality and look incredibly tasteful. The price was competitive, they shipped on time (even though there was a storm on the east coast, these ship from Florida) and Paisley made sure I was comfortable with all my choices. I ended up with Mushroom 1% solar shades (I wanted privacy at night) and Steel colored Bond black out shades for my bedroom. Paisley discussed all options with me -- even sent me photo mock ups of my house with different types of coverings -- roller shades, double fold, etc. I had my shades installed through a third party that was recommended by the Shade store, he was absolutely incredible. The process was very accommodating to our schedule, and our consultant Beth was great to work with on choosing our colors and style. The technician was very professional when he came to measure, checking over his work, even though there was a miscalculation due to some hardware. In spite of this, the technician who came to install the shades was able to remove the painted over bolts and all fit exactly as measured then. The shades are expensive but compared to our first estimate, they were 25% less than the Hunter Douglas brand and look great. read more

Our quote was still honored when I ordered, and shipping and installation were seamless. Expecting a hassle over repair, I called the company's headquarters and spoke with Stephen. Instead of giving me problems, he asked for an estimate. I got one, submitted it to the Shade Store, had the mirror replaced, submitted the bill and got a call from Stephen telling me that the reimbursement would arrive today. I had a fantastic experience with Adam, Liz, and team at the UWS store. They are all about great customer service. They will walk you through your options and send you home with as many samples as you want. I used their measurement and installation services. The extra cost is nominal compared to the peace of mind those services provided. For the measurement appointment, they showed up on time and measuring 10 windows only took about 20 minutes. They guarantee their measurements, so if anything is off, they are responsible. I ordered three roman shades, cascade with blackout backing, and one roller black out shade. The roller shade shipped in 9 days and the roller shades shipped in 13 days. As for the installation service, the guy that came showed up 30 minutes early and installed 4 shades in 35 minutes. During the long process of renovating our apartment, working with the team at the Shade Store was definitely the easiest part of the process. I can't talk highly enough of the entire team. And, the most important part, the shades look amazing. read more

Avoid at all cost - you will be much better off going to a local specialist who will focus on your needs and be responsive to your requests or questions. I have never written a negative online review but feel that my experience should be shared to warn anyone who might be considering going to the Shade Store: 1) Initially went to them in February, targeting completing three simple sets of drapes before our move-in at the end of April. We were very clear that we wanted the project to be finished before then and felt that two months was more than sufficient time to properly do the job. 2) We were not in town to supervise the initial installation and were surprised to find that they had placed the wrong order and did not have all the parts needed to complete the job. Leaving the living room drapes only half installed, the team left empty boxes, spare parts, and plastic wrap all over our apartment. The drapes that they did manage to put up were at least a FULL 2 INCHES TOO LONG and were piled at the bottom on the floor. This is what they call "custom" drapes. Above all that, they had ordered and installed non blackout drapes in of the rooms when we had purchased blackout ones 3) This was already a few days past the initial install date, and I had received no follow up communication from them with an apology or a go forward plan to fix their many mistakes. Instead, I had to reach out a week later to proactively ask them when they plan on coming back to finish the job 4) When I did manage to get a hold of them, I was put in touch with Jazmin from customer service and Jennifer from the Columbus Ave design studio, both of whom assured me that they will be all over it to help me out. This was not the case. It would be a very frustrating 4 WEEKS of back and forth emails and calls (all initiated by me) to try to get a measurement team in, draw up new designs, and ship the drapes back to their warehouse to hem. Jennifer seemed to only work 2 days out the week, and no matter how much I pushed her to try to speed up the process, she would take days to get back to me with a response. 6) Jennifer had the nerve to tell me that they did not incorrectly measure the drapes and that they were too long because my "floorboards are uneven." Isn't it their only job to make sure their drapes fit the dimensions of their customers' windows? 5) Sitting a full month and a half after our move in, and almost 4 months since we initiated and paid for the project, we still have no drapes in the living room, only boxes of Shade Store parts and drapes that are too long piled up in the corner. No one from their company has stepped up to take responsibility for the project (despite my many requests to speak with a manager or who someone who has oversight over the customer service reps...all of which were ignored) Don't let their fancy storefronts and friendly store managers fool you. You can find a much more coordinated team who will actually listen to your needs, respond in a timely fashion, and make drapes that fit your windows for a much cheaper price elsewhere. I learned the lesson the hard way and will be sure to never go back there again. read more

A large shade that we had purchased from Shade Store but was installed by one of their third party installers fell down because of faulty installation and broken brackets. We informed Shade Store. They had a service team in our home the next day. Shade reinstalled, and then they inspected all other shades that we'd bought from them. They are swapping out new parts for worn parts. This is a wonderful operation. When they arrived to install the shades I'd ordered to block out the sun in my bedroom, two things occurred: first, I realized that the shade I ordered was too transparent; second, they'd mis-measured the other two shades that formed a corner. That could have been a very bad beginning, but because they recognized their error, they allowed me a lot of latitude for my error: they allowed me to re-order all three shades as black out shades, and only charged me half for the one shade that had come the correct size. The second installer did a fabulous job of covering up the old holes and scratches from the old shades. The office was generous and very accommodating, the installer was polite, efficient, helpful, and he beautifully cleaned up after himself. I intend to use these folks for my office shades, and would recommend them to anyone. read more

don't work with daniela - she doesn't communicate very well with you. i told them clearly what i needed for my apartment and had purchased shades that are on the pricey side. i feel like if i worked with anyone else, maybe i would have had a better experience. the shades are beautiful, but they were not i needed, or what was expected. the whole experience was disappointing. also, the I&M people: they were not very nice, a bit entitled - got cranky about scheduling and were nasty on the phone quoting price. and they were going to install without me being there! i had my super install them - he was thoughtful and took him three days and many communications with me about them - i can't imagine these I&M people coming in and doing their thing without consulting me. anyway, talk to your super, he might install it for half their price, and do a better job. read more
