It turns out I had no reason to be suspicious, they are great! I live in a cookie cutter apartment building and just needed simple, sturdy roller shades for my two big apartment windows. Frank came by with his sample books and helped me pick out shades for each window. I went with a slightly transparent shade for my living room (you can see outside but it filters bright sunlight out) and a blackout shade for my bedroom (nice and dark, like a cave!). Ordering was simple and he told me it would be 4 weeks (cool). Pricing was very reasonable as well. Frank called me 2 weeks later and said my order was ready - EARLY. With supply chain issues all over the place I definitely did not expect that. He sent over the insurance stuff for my building right away and we scheduled an install date. On the day of the install, Frank and his assistant didn't show up on time - THEY WERE EARLY. (This is rare for me in NYC!) The install was quick, they cleaned up, and had everything ready to go within 2 hours. The roller shades have been great for me - they've held up nicely and the color matches my apartment well. I'm so pleased with the whole experience and think you will too.

So many people were satisfied. Murat came over and took the measurements and then returned that evening with a blackout shade for the bedroom as I had strong sunlight streaming in. I've used The Best Shades twice over the years. Both times, they were excellent. The first time was to install nearly 9ft wide shade across 3 panels of continuous windows. Other shade companies told me I had to break it apart into two parts because of the way shades are manufactured but Marat thought of an idea to select fabrics that look good horizontally and vertically so that the wide shade can be made horizontally. Great idea and great execution. The second job was to replace all the rest of the shades in our apartment. I didn't think twice to call Marat again. Efficient, professional, well priced and kind staff (my toddler insisted on peeking in during the install in each room and the team was very sweet to her).

On September 2nd I entered into an agreement with Mari O'Connor, sales representative for Sue and…read moreTrevor Pinto of Budget Blinds of Mid-Lower Manhattan, to have smart motorized shades installed in our apartment. During the sales process Mari stated Budget Blinds affiliate brand Inspired Shades would function exactly like the more expensive non-affiliated Lutron brand. Specifically, Mari had inspected our current Lutron set-up with a single hub hidden from sight and told me Inspired Shades would work exactly as the Lutron accessories in our apartment do. Based on this information I paid $2500 for the Inspired Shades. At time of installation on September 28th the blinds did not work through a remote or app. The professional installers informed me they typically have issues with Inspired Shades and we should have purchased Lutron. The installers left the apartment with the blinds not working through the app and instead of providing one remote as promised at time of purchase, each blind needed its own remote next to the blind to function. The installers came a second time on September 30th and suggested we place multiple receivers in plain sight around the apartment in an effort to get the blinds to work. I specified the receivers must be hidden but were willing to try it to see if it worked. The installer still could not manage to get all the blinds to work even with receivers in plain sight. That same day I was told I could replace the Inspired Shades with Lutron, although I would only receive a $1995 credit towards the purchase vs the $2500 I had already paid. I offered to pay the difference between the $2500 I had already paid and the cost to fabricate new Lutron blinds. Mari declined and suggested the installers come a third time. On December 7th the installers came to the apartment a third time. At this point the apartment had been rented so the installers were disturbing our renters in the process. The installers proceeded to place a hub in plain sight on the kitchen counter and put 2 signal repeaters in outlets next to the blinds. One of the outlets was a single plug high voltage outlet designed for our air conditioning. Our apartment was recently gut renovated with many available outlets, but this outlet was closest to the bedroom blind. The installers unplugged the air conditioning and placed a signal repeater in that outlet rendering our air conditioning unit useless. The installers did not set up a multi-channel remote in the process. Mari wrote later that day and claimed the shades "are all functioning properly". I was sold a product that would function with a single remote or through a phone app with a hub hidden in the same place we have a hubs for our other smart home appliances. What was delivered was a product that does not work as advertised. In simple terms, I paid for a product I did not receive. Our apartment is less than 700 sq ft and all 3 windows are on the same wall. The desired location for the hub is less than 15ft from any one blind motor. Mari cited electronic interference as the reason the hub would not reach the blinds, even though none of our other smart home appliances have this issue. I have tried to solve this by offering to pay for the difference in the Inspired Shades and Lutron. I have also dedicated significant time with Budget Blinds trying to get Inspired shades to work. As a last resort I tried to involve the corporate office on 12.8 and was promptly told they could not help. Bottom line, stay far away unless you are willing to risk the same treatment.

During our search for a solution, we visited most of the NYC's big-name window treatment stores. We didn't great customer service, and the options were extremely expensive. Most didn't offer or recommend shutters, only fabric/motorized shades - not the look that we were going for. I'm glad I called Aart - they arrived promptly to measure and explain how they could build out the shutters in a way that would allow me to still access the windows for cleaning. Not only are the shutters the "look" that I want, they came in at a better value than the shade options I explored. The installation was quick, easy and I'm really pleased with the results. It also means a lot, especially now, to support a local, family business that does great work.

Our Pilates…read morestudio needed both shades and drapes, and the first quote we received was from The Shade Store, which was insane, so we immediately brought out several more companies for a consult. Darby was super knowledgable, he understood exactly what we needed, and the prices were very reasonable compared to most of the competition. Because our Studio has two full walls of windows, we need to keep the sun out but also wanted something lighter for an aesthetic look and for some privacy. Darby suggested we do a UV Sun shade closest to the window, and then another track of drapes which we can pull when it's less sunny or at night when we don't need the full sun blocking. So we ordered both blinds and drapes, and both were done within the timeframe Darby initially quoted us (which was faster than the industry standard from what I experienced meeting other companies). The delivery and installation process was also great, as they were quite flexible working with our schedule around all the other work being done in our studio. Stretch the installer was wonderful. The final result is absolutely beautiful, and one of our instructors just today said "I feel like I'm in a spa." I met with 5 different local companies and I can 100% recommend this one and if we build another studio or need something done for our house there is no question we'll be back :)

The process is exactly as described by other reviewers - introductory call, questionnaire, in home visit, and follow up call a week or two later with a mood board and shopping list. Betsy was incredibly personable and easy to talk to. I was also impressed with how much her suggestions matched my style even though I didn't have the vocabulary to communicate it. I didn't even pay that for the table. He then said he could try and epoxy that might not work for $580. They were terrible to schedule with. This is the epitome of bad business and advantage-taking.

WOW! My House looks beautiful after the amazing installation done by NY City Blinds. Nothing short of amazing. It started off with Or, the design consultant who very patiently took his time to show me all the fabrics for all the different options of shades and curtains that I was interested in. I wanted shades in 4 bedrooms for my kids and mine, two living rooms, and a laundry room. He sat down with me for 3 hours and took measurements.This is a big project and I wanted it to go perfectly and that is exactly what I got. They were up to date with the lead time and everything went smoothly. Living Room 1: This living room is the main living room in my house. Over here we did a double window treatment project of 6 honeycomb shades and covered by a beautiful motorized sheer drape. The shades were measured perfectly and the color of the shades and the color of the sheer drapes went perfectly together. Luis and Oz (the installers) did an amazing job! Living Room 2: This living room is more for show. Luis and Oz, once again did a gorgeous job with these off-white linen drapes. These drapes are connected to a wand to open and close. It looks very professional, like a hotel. I have no complaints at all! Just Beautiful. Bedrooms: The bedrooms were a smaller project. My kids typically have trouble sleeping due to light exposure from our old shades. We replaced everything with 1 blackout honeycomb shade per room from hunter douglas. All have a cord with child safety mechanisms. With our design consultant Or, everything was thought out! Now my kids sleep through the night, and I don't have to worry about messing with the blinds. Master Bedroom: In my bedroom we did two sets of sheer ripplefold linen drapes with wand attachments and top down bottom up honeycomb shades. Luis and Oz carefully steamed the drapes and cleaned up the mess as well. Overall, NY City Blinds has an amazing team, they come prepared, they follow up, they are patient and willing to help with all of my window treatment needs. They left my house in the same condition as when they first came but now my home looks transformed! Disappointing Experience with NY City Blinds I had high hopes for NY City Blinds, but my experience has been frustrating and deeply disappointing. When I initially had two skylight blinds installed, I wasn't informed that the batteries required annual recharging, nor was I provided with a charger - despite apparently being charged for one. Moreover, the installers placed the battery packs in an area that's not only hard to reach but also unsafe to access. A month ago, I requested assistance to correct this setup. While the installers agreed with my proposed repositioning for better access, I encountered another setback: one of the batteries was out of charge, and I had to purchase my own charger. The battery failed to charge, even with a second brand of charger. I reached out to NY City Blinds by email and text, but weeks passed without any response. After multiple follow-ups, I finally reached someone named Oz. His response was baffling and unprofessional; he blamed the company's issues on absent employees and faulty systems, which seemed irrelevant to my case. Though he eventually offered to send a charger, he also started lecturing me, calling me rude despite the months of poor service, lack of communication, and the problematic installation I'd endured. It's concerning to hear about their operational problems, but it shouldn't impact their customers. Given the poor customer service, incomplete installation, and failure to provide essential items, I would advise potential customers to proceed with caution. My experience suggests that NY City Blinds is disorganized and struggling to meet basic standards of service and support. read more

From start to finish, NY City blinds aced this! I would highly, highly recommend using them for your next project. Roei came to my apartment to measure the space and detail for me what my options were. I have a hard time sleeping if any light shines through, so I am always quite skeptical as to how it will go with blinds/shades, etc. Once I chose, Roei returned to the apartment with fabric options and examples of what each treatment option would look like. I chose a blackout blinds option to be built into its own frame. I was also in a bit of a time crunch (my lease was over in my rental at the end of the month). Roei assured me I could have the blinds in two weeks. I, again, was skeptical... I assumed at least 4 weeks. Boy, was I wrong! Two weeks later I had my blinds installed today. Rob came to do the installation. He was so courteous, efficient, and quick! The job was complete in no time and it looks exactly how I had hoped. I will try to add images another time, but it is so dark in that room when I need for it to be and it looks gorgeous (sleek and modern) when I want to put the shades up (or keep them down too, really). When they promise you 100% Hunter Douglas blackouts, light will still come in - see attached picture. 100% means no light and when I complained there is still light they said that's still 100%. Besides insulting my intelligence this company also insulted me on a personal level. I am super sensitive to light and when I asked for 3 days to get a chance to sleep with these to see how it goes they said it's non refundable and gave me only two options: take them as is or have them immediately removed. I asked them to remove them immediately if that's the case but I had a doctors appointment (I am 10 days post surgery and could not skip that doctor's appointment). They then told the installer not to leave the apartment and proceeded to call the cops saying this was an indication that I didn't want to pay (even though they had my debit card and I had already paid 50%). I was forced to sign that I was happy with this purchase so I could go to the doctor. Besides being a shady company they are also shady people who blackmail you when you are in a vulnerable position. I do not recommend them or at least I do not recommend you believe them when they say 100% blackout. read more

Recently my husband and I decided to move into a new apartment after living 35 years in the suburbs (no kids left in the nest.) I came into NY City Blinds a few months back without a clue what I wanted (before we even decided on an apartment!!) and I can truly say it was a pleasure dealing with them. I have yet to make up my mind (very typical of me, ask my friends!) but both Lee and Jake (sorry if I'm botching the names) were very patient and kind to me and my many, many questions. Both were knowledgeable and sweet as could be. I took a card (which I can't find right now, I must admit I am a bit of a purse hoarder and need that show HA) I will call and make an appointment as soon as we get closer to the move in date! This is my first post on Yelp as well! They were both so cute, I just felt the need to let everyone know. If you want people who will be patient with you, even if you're a little bit crazy like me...go here! As mentioned by another reviewer, there are basically two choices in the neighborhood, and the people at the other location are rude and doing business with them is most unpleasant. My experience with NY City Blinds was top notch and delightful. My job was small, yet they treated me as if I was having every window in my home done. I felt they actually cared about my apartment; the designers and installers even offered to take their shoes off before entering. My shutters are absolutely beautiful. I have finally found wonderful business partners for all of my window and upholstery needs. My husband and I take a lot of pride in our home, and the people at NY City blinds totally appreciated our attention to detail. They did everything in their power to make us feel comfortable with the product we were ordering. I can't thank them enough and hope they never move out of the area. I called the store and spoke to Mauricio. He was very helpful and answered my questions in regards to any sales they have going on in the store. He suggested for me to come and visit to see what else they are offering such as motorized shades, solar shades, curtains, drapes, electric blinds, electric shades, motorized blinds. I finally went to the store and was helped by Roy. He is very polite and very helpful.He mentioned that they are offering home consultations and installations including on the price of my purchase. They also offer Rebates on some products such as motorize shades. There were so many great things to choose from but Roy was able to help me narrow down what exactly I needed for my place. It was true what my friends said about this store. The customer service is amazing, It felt like the Chanel of Drapery's and Blinds. I have never been a customer of nycity blinds, however I felt the need to give them a good review because of the character of their design consultant, Roei Loker and his colleague Avi Lipskin. After Roei Loker found my wallet in a cab, he graciously found me on facebook through the help of Avi. He could have kept the money in the wallet or made charges to my credit cards. He even could had given it to the police, with the hopes that they would do the right thing and return it. But Roei and Avi took time out of their day to track me down and give me back my wallet, with everything in it. When I showed up to Roei's home to pick it up at 9pm, he even refused to take money from me as gesture of gratitude. I know when using these types of businesses, finding people who want to do the right thing is as important as their skill and its rare to find good, honest people. I can assure you Roei is. It took me a REALLY long time to select shades for my Manhattan apartment. I found NY City Blinds after months of dead ends. One plus to NY City Blinds was that they sent Matt to look at my space and help me pick out what would work best before I ordered. Many of the places I had tried wanted me to make the decision alone, place the order, and then they would send someone to measure (not a designer). There was one mix-up in the eventual ordering process and that brought us up to a tight deadline before the holidays. But Guy at the shop made it work and sent Andrii and Artur to install in record time. One shade was a little off and Matt came back and confirmed it was a factory error. The replacement is now in Guy's shop waiting for me to get back to New York so they can come and install. So, the process wasn't without hiccups, but I've never done a home project that was. I found NY City Blinds on Google and am so glad I did. We needed blinds for our apartment in New Jersey. We checked around multiple locations in NJ and NYC. Only NY City Blinds had what we needed- motorized blinds that were whisper quiet, and for the bedroom, blackout blinds complete with side channels that block out almost all the little cracks of light to make the room almost completely dark at night. Salesman Or Shikman and his team were so kind and knowledgeable. I am new to getting window treatments and doing home improvements, so I had a TON of questions! They answered everything and were very professional and easy to talk to. I was upfront about our budget concerns and they were able to work with me on that as well. NYC blinds was extremely professional and helpful with my project. The salesperson, Roei was responsive to my needs and offered solid design advice. For instance, Roei came for an initial consultation at my convenience (he even offered to come on Sunday morning based on my busy schedule!), and quoted me for solar shades. I was indecisive about what I wanted to do, so I didn't decide on the spot, and that was fine. Roei called to follow-up and was completely professional at all times. Once I changed my mind, Roei came back out to my apartment to re-measure for the Silhouette's and still was was very patient until I made a decision, which was several weeks later! I needed more than standard blinds, I needed two sets of 15-foot concealed motorized blackout blinds that drop from inside the ceiling. Thank goodness for Zvi, the president of NY City Blinds. He walked me through the whole process every step of the way (my first experience with architectural blinds); visiting the project on multiple occasions with my contractor to ensure a flawless job. They worked with me to meet my budget, and the 78th St showroom is a welcoming place to get creative (set up an appoint there with Zvi and you what I mean). I had an excellent experience with NY City Blinds. I recently moved into a new apartment in the West Village, and we have one large, oddly shaped window. The apartment gets very light in the mornings, and we are across from a construction site...very noisy. I emailed NY City blinds, and Leo came over same day. Leo was very professional, efficient and friendly. He was a big help picking out the best color/fabric, and suggesting materials to both block out the light and the sound. NY City blinds made every effort to install the blinds before we left on vacation, about four weeks later. For the installation, Gierson was a true pleasure. He installed the shades in less than 30 minutes, and even steamed out all the wrinkles. We now have beautiful blackout/soundproof shades, and I can't imagine living without them. I had solar shades installed today by this great company. The shades were exactly what I wanted and, even more important, were installed perfectly by Juan and his assistant. The installation was efficient, flawless, and without any of the mess left behind by many other kinds of companies. I have big, east facing windows that, every morning at sunrise, let in the most blinding light that fades the floors, pales the furniture, and bleaches anything left on a surface in the line of the light. I was very happy with the selection of shades in the store, with the attention paid to the measuring, and with the delivery and installation of my shades. We walked into NY City Blinds and were immediately greeted by Mauricio who took care of us from A to Z. We are indecisive so Mauricio took the time to get to know our style, budget and presented a range of options for us to choose from. We scheduled in an in-home appointment for him to bring samples and take measurements. After that meeting we were still unsure so we made a second appointment for him to come back. He had no problem measuring our windows twice since we changed our mind on the dressings. The gentleman who did the installation was also very professional, courteous and respectful to our home. Mauricio, a design consultant and showroom manager at NY City Blinds, failed to hedge his bets when like an ugliness tregetour he insulted me by calling me an "energy vampire" after I asked him questions about window treatments that cost $1,000. He resiled from his duty and became unprofessional making trenchant faces at me, gesturing ultra tense with his hands in what seemed like fake frustration, and even went so far as to tremulously curse at me which means he does not care about NY City Blinds, its tensile strength, and customers enough to interact with them knowing that the reputation of NY City Blinds is in large part determined by him. I don't normally write reviews but I have to say NY City Blinds exceeded all my expectations! I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and moving into a new apartment is stressful. If you're looking to make your windows look opulent at its finest, go to NY City Blinds! I passed by the store on 78th and York and decided to take a quick stroll in. They immediately booked me a free home consulation and brought lots of different samples along with measurements. During the wait for my fabric to arrive, they kept me posted the whole way through. As soon as it arrived i got a call to schedule an installation the very next day. The installers, Juan and Margarito, were absolutely sublime!
