I had an extremely frustrating experience with The Shade Store that dragged on for months and never reached a reasonable resolution. The problems started with delivery and logistics. As you will likely have heard, every item will ship to you separately. That includes small bars and huge boxes. I ordered for several windows in my home and this meant receiving (and, importantly storing) multiple shipments beginning in early December, which I had to personally track and manage. Despite this, installation wasn't available until February. Delivery handling itself was careless. A massive (and expensive) custom shade that required special delivery was simply left unattended outside my building without notice or protection. At one point, I asked to have the items that were ready installed sooner. In processing that request, they cancelled my existing appointment altogether. I then had to follow up to reinstate the original booking over several more emails. The installation experience was even worse. Two installers were scheduled, but only one showed up. I arranged my day to be there, and I received no advance notice that the second installer wouldn't be coming. The lone installer dropped a large roller shade, damaging my wall. He also could have completed part of the installation but chose not to in order to not be late for his next appointment, leaving the job incomplete and my home in disarray. When the team returned for a second installation, the second installer was late--and much of the work was ultimately completed by just one person anyway, underscoring that the initial appointment could have been handled more effectively and without delay. What stands out most is the lack of accountability. This should have been a straightforward resolution after clear service failures, but instead it became a drawn-out and frustrating process. I had the Shade Store send a team back to steam the installed items, which, after months in boxes on my floor, were wrinkled. The result is drapery that looks worse than before. The end of my ripple fold drapery is stretched and creased and does not match the fall of the drapery on the other side of the window. Given the many issues with the installation--including property damage--it is especially disappointing that they ultimately did not agree to waive the installation fee, which was a completely reasonable request. At this price point, I expected professionalism, coordination, and respect for my time and home. Instead, I got poor execution, property damage, and months of back-and-forth. I knew from other disappointed customers that delivery would be a hassle, I did not expect the rest of the experience. Extremely disappointing. read more

The staff at the showroom and the installer were very nice to deal with. They were friendly, patient and helpful. When we talked about including curtains over the drapes we did not think about how far out the curtains would have to hang to clear the mounts for the drapes. But we are so satisfied with the drapes alone with no curtains, we have decided not to use curtains. We have one more set of French door windows that will require some special attention. We look forward to working with the staff to see how to address an issue with the windows that we cannot change due to historic preservation regulations. Thanks read more

The Venetian blinds I bought from the Shade Store a few years ago CONTINUE TO BREAK WITH GREAT FREQUENCY. I have just called them AGAIN, and they'll send a technician to look at the situation IN 5 (FIVE) DAYS. If you get shades from these people, BE SURE to get the lifetime guarantee, because the shades will break REPEATEDLY and you'll have to wait for several days each time before a technician can even come to look at the situation. I'm now stuck with a large window that lets in the bright lights from the parking lot into my bedroom all night long. I'm very sorry I got shades from these people -- the lifetime guarantee is absolutely necessary, and they don't even have enough technicians available to do what is needed. They can't even send somebody just to un-stick the present shades to let them all down, which would give me privacy and darkness at night. This is ridiculous. What's the use of "good service" if it takes many days to assess a situation, much less fix it? Again, I'm very sorry I turned to these people in the first place. We contacted shade store early summer on behalf of SCPS school to replace stage curtain we did emphasis the budget had been allocated from FY24 and we have to complete the project by the end of September if not we lose the budget and school will not get the all important curtain for their performing arts Fast forward 3 months later I am begging the shade store please send your tech to do the measurement. Terrible customer service post-installation. I have gotten the runaround for a month on an appointment for services I have already paid for.

Will at the 14th St location helped me pick out design, colors, and type of shade/blind for my windows. I got a quote quickly, and installation for the custom-made shades and roller blinds was scheduled only a couple of weeks later. Installation by Brett was quick and professional. Cost is higher, but you get the quality you pay for. read more

Update: after posting my original review, the store contacted me and seems to have rectified the issues. We should be getting our shade finally installed tomorrow. I appreciate the speedy solution--just wish it did not have to be prompted by a negative review online. This place seems like it's professional at first blush but it absolutely fails to live up to its hype on almost every front. Just getting the quote for our window treatments took much longer than promised. Then when we do get the quote, it comes out to $20k for 7 windows!! Kid you not. On what planet are we living where a company could actually have the gall to ask for that much for 7 normal windows. Anyway, we finally agree to much more affordable, but still expensive as fuck, window treatments. The guy who showed up to take window measurements was a little rude and failed to note an important piece of information for one window, therefore when the actual instal was happening--several weeks later, they had to skip that window. Now that window remains un-treated and we haven't heard any update from this shitty ass company in weeks. Customer service is an absolute joke. The only impressive experience I had was with the actual shade installer. He was professional and friendly. He's also the reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1. Tried working with the store on 14th street. Had a great first call with a designer and spent over 30 minutes providing measurements for my rooms and specific fabric requirements. The offerings they had were limited but workable. That's where the customer service ended. I was sent a quote that did not reflect both rooms and listed the wrong measurements for the room quoted. It also did not include a feature I'd specifically said was a requirement for my needs. I asked for an adjusted quote and got the same wrong measurements for a single room. I called and left a message at the store asking for a manager to call me to try a third time, and never got a call back. They must not need business. read more

Excellent, professional service from walking into the store to installation to a follow up repair. The possibilities of various kinds of shades are overwhelming...but the choice became easier and easier because of the staff...every aspect of the transaction from ordering to taking measurements, to installation and to a minor repair six months later was handled competently and on time. The material and style is good but the delivery and service process is bad. It takes very long for them to schedule installs. They will send you material but then won't come in a timely manner to install it, so it just sit arounds your house in a box. I would look elsewhere. read more

Purchased The Shade Store window coverings for 21 windows in a remodelled house. Had problems with 4 custom shades with recurrent problems even after repaired twice by TSS. TSS will not replace. TSS makes a nice product but does not abide by their advertised warranty. Beware of purchasing anything accept drapes, as their mechanisms are not sturdy and they are unwilling to replace faulty products. I will not use TSS for future projects. read more

Update: More than a month after my initial post, The Shade Store sent a technician to fix my faulty cellular shade. Ultimately, he said that the shade should never have been made in that size with a rope cord and that it would have to be remade as a motorized shade so that it would not break. I was told that customer care would be in touch to address this, but they have gone dark. read more

My experience with The Shade Store was an exercise in frustration and disappointment. The purchasing portion of the experience went smoothly. I bought shades and valances for 8 windows, 6 of which were in Bay windows. During my first installation appointment, not all of my valances in one of my Bay windows were successfully installed because the measurements were wrong. It ultimately took 4-5 attempts to get the valances to align correctly with numerous additional measurement appointments scheduled as well. Twice, the technicians arrived and upon opening the box, it was readily apparent that in addition to the measurements being wrong, the fabric did not even match the other two that were already installed. The final solution required replacing all three to avoid a continued fabric mismatch. Given the cost of the product provided, I didn't expect that it would take 6 months and hours of my time to finally get my shades and valances installed. It is disappointing things did not work more smoothly because I like the product. Unfortunately, I would not recommend them and will likely use another company for other windows in my home. read more

We had a disappointing experience with this Shade Store outlet due to mistakes made by the design associate. We put in two separate orders for blinds, and in both instances, the design associate entered the measurements incorrectly when sending them to the manufacturer. So we took off two afternoons from work to have the blinds installer begin work but then tell us that the wrong sized blinds had been manufactured. We then needed to wait weeks for replacement blinds to be manufactured, and of course take off even more time to have the replacements installed. Shade Store never apologized for the mistakes. Shade Store blinds are about the most expensive blinds you can buy- our order was thousands of dollars- and for that kind of money, we deserved better than this sloppy and dismissive service. read more

I had an excellent experience in pursuit of the right shades for a complicated project. I needed 10 shades in different rooms of an old house. I can't say enough about Leo, who was one of those people who listens so well at the beginning that the rest of the project was easy, as he seemed to suggest all the right stuff. The Shade Store procedures and policies are great for customers. They review your choices multiple times to make sure your choice will meet expectations when installed. In spite of that care, two of my windows had a non-obvious issue that did not show up and until installed. Shade Store remade the two shades to satisfy the customer - me!
