This was a quick weekend getaway. What a cute place! A friend of ours was holding a pop-up event, so the place was sold out. There is a bar and restaurant on the property. Food and drinks were tasty. We stayed in the 1959 Boles Aero. It has a small shower and a updated air conditioning unit which kept the trailer very cool. The bed was comfortable as well. It's located close to town. We rented the Tiki Bus last weekend for two nights thinking it would be like a motorhome inside. Wrong. This 1947 bus didn't have any kind of a table inside, and the floor space is a very narrow sunken area making it impossible for two people to pass by without one person stepping up on the side raised area. The toilet is located in the small rear area of the bus where a huge windscoop for the rear engine was located so you have to bend down to squeeze by to get in. Cleaning was ok but not spotless, and the windows were so dirty it blocked the light coming in. Maintenance is their weak suit- the overhead ceiling material is coming loose and starting to fall down and one chair on the outside deck can't be used because the leg is breaking loose. On the other hand the community showers were very clean and had been well maintained. read more

I have a thing for vintage trailers. This is probably due to the fact that as a small child, my parents owned a couple really cool trailers and we camped a lot so they are near and dear to my heart. My birthday was coming up pre COVID19 stay at home order. My hubby and I were planning a fun trip to Arizona and he had planned to surprise me with a stay here. This was our last night of our trip but we had such a great time. We arrived in the late afternoon and met up with Justin the owner. He is such a nice young man and his little park is so damn cute. I felt like I had stepped back in time. This park is filled with all kinds of vintage trailers from the 1950's, a 1947 Chris Craft yacht and a 1947 Tiki Bus. Each trailer is decorated differently and comes with unique touches. There are also all kinds of vintage cars that Justin owns dotting the park. We had reserved the 1955 Airstream. I have wanted to buy an Airstream for a long time and this gave us an opportunity to test one out. In our trailer we had a vintage record player with old western albums. The sound was pretty awful but we still played an album or two. We had two beds that were small but cozy. I loved the cute lil kitchen with the throwback refrigerator. We did not have a shower but that was alright as the property offers showers at the main building. At the time we were staying there Justin was getting ready to open an onsite diner called Dots. I wish it would have been open as it would have been perfect to dine there and continue our vintage stay back in time. We were cozy at night with wool blankets. It became quite chilly that night and it began to rain hard which turned into snow in the morning. The rain provided a soothing sound to sleep to so we were happy campers. If you crave some place different to stay in your travels, this is the place to reserve. Just outside of one of Arizona's coolest towns Bisbee! read more

What a fun little place. We stayed here one night last week in an airstream. We were pleasantly surprised when we pulled in - the common areas (gazebo, etc) were nicely done and tidy. Our airstream was a smaller model, so had a kitchen & bathroom sink with running water and a toilet, but no shower. There was a nice collection of "kitsch" sprinkled around our trailer interior. The beds were a bit short for me (I am 6' 4"), but comfy and warm at night. We went to Safeway to pick up snacks and adult beverages and sat outside our trailer in the nice patio furniture and relaxed. We would have liked to have breakfast a Dot's the next morning, but they didn't open until 9:00 and we wanted to get on the road so we went to the nearby Bisbee Breakfast club and had a great meal. We will be back. Part of the fun is scoping out the other units, and the nest time we want to stay in the yacht! read more

Wanted to like this place; it had been referred by someone who stayed here years ago. She raved about Dot's, etc. Made my reservations. Got there half an hour before check-in time. No one in the office. Okay, went away until an hour after posted check-in hour but there was no one there then either. Hung around for an hour, finally saw Danisha(?) who works there. She couldn't check me in because the owner had taken all the keys away. Eventually she discovered that the trailer (Alma, '50) was unlocked so I could unpack but I couldn't lock it back up. Went away for a while again, came back. No manager, no check in, but Danisha (?) gave me her master key for the unit so I could lock it. The trailer was dusty, and there was no possible way to read in the bedroom. The nightside lamp was a miniscule thing with a faux stained-glass shade. Reading before bed is my only vice. So I went to a local thrift store and bought a lamp so I could read. The table the lamp sits on was broken, one of the legs was jutting off into space. When I went to hang a shirt up in the closet I found someone else's old tee-shirt lying at the bottom. The bed wasn't quite as good as one I slept on once in a $10 room in Tiajuana. The stove didn't work; there was no gas or propane running to it. Since it was a day later and there had still not been an acutal check-in because there had not been an actual person to check me in I had to call the *emergency* number to try to get the stove on. My call went unanswered and my message was not returned. Of course, it turned out that Dot's was not open during the week, so half the reason for my booking got subtracted from the getgo. It would have been nice if the fancy blurb featuring Dot's in the seductive booking info had mentioned that. When I left I couldn't check out because, guess what, Justin wasn't there then either. On the positive side, Danisha (sp?) was very nice, tried her best to help me out and the money that place is making finances a lot of great old cars ranging from beautiful drivers to rusted out junkers - all of them are cool. There is an outdoor lounge area with bands playing at night and Dots Diner to feed you hunger. Josh, the Chef, puts out the crispiest tofu bowl along with sandwiches and breakfast. Jennifer makes a proper cocktail and knows all the local spots to visit so check in with her to learn where to go. After visiting Bisbee for a couple years we finally decided to stay at The Shady Dell. It looked to be a cool vintage/ quiet getaway. When we first came across The Shady Dell we weren't renting, we had seen the sign and wondered what it was. We saw the housekeeper cleaning and we asked her about the place. She told us that we could look around in the units that had the locks on the door with the keys in the lock. She also told us that people were renting the ones without locks on the door so we couldn't see them, and that we should be quiet to be respectful. As we looked we loved the idea, so I soon after booked a weekend in the Tiki Bus. As we were renting the bus we expected privacy, soon after getting settled we noticed a bunch of people walking around the facility, there are signs posted around that say "No unguided tours". At this time there was no employees on the facility because the restaurant was closed and so was the office. Groups of people would walk up to the tiki bus and take pictures. We didn't mind them taking photos from afar but people would walk up to the windows and take photos through the windows. Soon after that a lady had opened the door and walked into the bus, she asked us what we were doing. As someone renting the bus we were a little upset and told her that people are renting the units within the park and that they should ask before walking in. My brother had rented the Royal Mansion which doesn't have a lock from the inside, people would walk into his unit as well. On our second night at the park we had gotten back a little late from being in Bisbee, it was around 12pm. We had started to get ready for bed when the power shuts off, all the lights in the bedroom area were off and all the lights in the main area. This meant we had no heaters and it was getting below 40 degrees at night. Luckily we had one outlet that worked so we plugged in one heater and one light. When we woke up the next morning, the morning we were supposed to leave. I had moved the heater into the bathroom because it was pretty cold, everything is metal. As i turn on the heater the power shuts off completely in the bus and we end up having no power. After that we had gotten all the stuff out of the trailer and decided to leave. We really enjoyed our Bisbee trip but there's cheaper places within Old Bisbee that would've been a nicer stay. read more

THIS IS A CAUTION TO ANYONE WANTING TO RENT LODGING AT THE SHADY DELL TRAILER PARK. SOME OF THE TRAILERS ARE UNSAFE AND THE MANAGER/OWNER JUSTIN DOES NOT RESPOND TO SERIOUS COMPLAINTS. Eight of us were staying in four trailers, ready for a fun weekend. We arrived Fri. April 28, 2023 about 2:30 for check-in, the manager Justin was not on the property, the office was locked up. The housekeeper made a few calls, she gave us keys to our trailers, said Justin was out of town for the weekend. The only other employee on site was a man named Juan who said he was getting ready to leave and would be back in the morning but only for his free breakfast and then he was off for the weekend. Other than Dot's and the Airstream bar in the evenings, there were no other employees on the premises after 3pm, My roommate and I were in the Aero Boles trailer, we had a decent dinner that night from Dot's and listened to the live music. On Saturday night April 29, 2023, about 10p.m., after coming back from dinner in town, I was getting ready for bed and went into the lighted bathroom and tripped stepping up about 6" onto a platform for the toilet and tub. There were no cautionary signs. A strip of fluorescent tape on the step up that I might've noticed to proceed carefully. I had used that bathroom several times that day, the bathroom light was on, I was sober and yet I tripped and fell rib-side down on the tub rib. A trip back to Phoenix and into the ER and a CT scan showed 4 fractured ribs (#s 7, 8, 9, 10). The pain was extreme and two days later I was back in the ER for shortness of breath and was admitted to the hospital where I spent 3 days. Several days after that (10 days after the all) the pain had subsided and I felt well enough to make my own bowl of cereal, A few hours later I was in extreme pain, another trip to the ER, new CT scan showed 2 of the fractured ribs were displaced. I was hospitalized for another 3 days for pain management. Now, almost 3 weeks after the original accident, I'm slowly mending but the doctors say I must still lie low. I've been living in my recliner because lying flat is uncomfortable and I have to stay on my back. The doctors said I should be able to get around better a month after the accident. I would like some reimbursement for my medical bills and prescription expenses but am unable to get in touch with Justin. I tried calling him twice, left messages but he never responded. The email on the Shady Dell Bisbee website is no longer in service. I feel there should have been some cautionary signs posted and certainly some fluorescent tape or warning signs on steps. At the very least, Justin the manager or owner should show some courtesy business management sense to return my calls. read more

I'll keep this as short as possible. The Shady Dell advertises that this is an adults only getaway. Yet when we arrived, there were many young children running around, screaming and going in and out of trailers. They were not eating at the restaurant but invited by the owners themselves. Come to find out that kids are allowed at the restaurant or whenever the owner's feel like disrupting the comfort of their guests. We saw other reviews on Facebook about people having an issue with their false advertising and one of the owners (Claire) double downed on everything and was completely unapologetic. It's false advertising plain and simple. Don't advertise that you're an adults only destination and yet flagrantly disregard your own rules. A shame too because I've been coming to the Shady Dell for over ten years but according to the owner, people like us are no longer welcome. So if you're into false advertising then this is the place for you. If you are expecting a nice, quiet, adults only getaway, you will not get that here. I'm also not a monster for wanting and expecting an adults only environment, especially when it is ADVERTISED AS SUCH. And I'm not even getting into the other parts of the trip that were awful. Like how nobody ever answers the phone at the front desk or the servers at Dot's diner being rude. This place has really gone downhill and I will never stay here again. read more

The trying and effort is what makes it an amazing place to see. We finally made it to The Shady Dell yesterday. The retro 50's trailer park is a place I had hoped to go to for years. It sounded so legit that I had to see for myself. As we walked into the quaint place immediately I could feel the charm surroundings. A few kids were playing and some people were sitting in front of their home, drinking a beer. We found out place and the gal who was taking care of things gave us the rundown of our home. She showed us how things worked, the kitchen items, and of course the Wi-Fi. The interior was well maintained, with wood paneling throughout. The many wall scones provided plenty of lighting, and almost all worked. We made a couple martinis and relaxed, putting a record on as well. It was a grand time, and we really didn't even want to bother with going into town. It was too nice to just relax and appreciate the effort that was put into the place. read more

If you're expecting a "hotel" experience this is not the place for you. The trailers are adorable, very vintage but uncomfortable! There is NO one on site to assist. Our trailer didn't have any blankets or hand-towels. There is an information booklet in the trailer that states "We do not make up trailers daily. The property was charming, friendly and pretty easy to find. Checking in & out was simple. We stayed in the Tiki bus & it was decorated it such a fun and nostalgic way. It says it sleeps 3 but maybe 1 adult & 2 kids or 2 smaller people. We did ok with 2 adults & 1 kiddo. Dot's dinner was a nice on site resturant. The menu was set for the weekend we went. Tacos of 4 different kinds & they even had a vegetarian option for my daughter. I would have loved a hamburger but the food was good non the less. The bar was in a cool airstream and the bartender knew how to make a good drink! The property was great with all kinds of retro signs & old cars & trucks, even a fun old popcorn cart from a carnival or circus. A recommend if staying in the area for a night or two. read more

I was SO disappointed when I stayed at the Shady Dell had wanted to stay for a while and when I finally did I wished I hadn't bothered. The fridge was dripping water because the freezer had not been thawed out so I had to deal with that. They didn't tell me that I had to turn on the hot water, why they didn't do it when they knew I was coming was beyond me. The shades were so old and the couch too it was all sun damaged and looked horrible can't believe they would leave it that way. There was no wifi as they claimed and the plugs are not compatible with electronic plugs and I didn't bring an adapter. NO TV either. The ONLY good thing is that I was next to the Cemetery and close to where my Great Grandma is buried which gave me comfort trying to sleep on a horrible mattress. So sad when it looks so cute! read more

I feel bummed out that I'm writing this review, because I loved the Shady Dell. I've been coming here for 13 years, since I first stayed there in 2008. My last stay, though, was awful. Awful. And you'd probably not think it, given how often I bitch, but I hate writing bad reviews of places, particularly of places I love and have been to again and again. I've stayed at the Shady Dell probably a dozen times, always trying to stay in a new trailer each time, always enchanted by the property. This past weekend was a special weekend for my wife and I, so we stopped in a little early and no one was available at the front desk and no one picked up when we called, so we went to Dot's Diner to see if they knew when a front desk staff person might be available and that waitress bit my head off. She was so angry that she was trembling. Another waitress had to intervene, cool things down, and gave me and my wife waters while we waited. It was seriously bizarre. Then within earshot of us, the angry waitress loudly complained about her job and how she's sick of these questions. I wasn't going to say a damn thing. I figured it was a one-off, whatever. Fine. No Dot's Diner for me, forgot that. But then, once I got into my trailer, about half a dozen kids, young children, monopolized the gazebo area and I would hear the occasional errant train-whistle of a scream penetrate my trailer. The Shady Dell is a child-free hotel. Adults only. Again, I wasn't going to say anything! But someone else left a review on Facebook and one of the owners offered one of those, "Sorry you were so put out by my kids" statements, a non-apology, a "sorry you were upset" apology and that's when I was like, okay, that's it. It's nice to know that the staff can get away with treating guests like crap and that the owners can decide, on a total whim, that their child-free policy is null and void at a moment's notice. There had been no warning in advance. I understand it was an important weekend to get the family all together, but it was at the expense of the paying guests. This past stay was so bad it was surreal. It's clear that the Shady Dell doesn't want me back, so fine. $140 per night is too expensive to stay in a place with abusive service, screaming kids and no one available when you call, or even at the front desk. read more

I tried for 4 days to try and talk to someone about a group reservation and after 4 days, I canceled. What a disaster. I can only imagine if my group had stayed there and we had any kind of an issue. I had read about Shady Dell several years ago, and put it on the list of places to visit. We recently had the opportunity to stay and am so glad we did. What a treasure. From the moment we checked in we felt like we had stepped back into the 50's, a simpler time. Our trailer was the Airfloat and I felt like we were staying in Lucy and Ricky's trailer from the Long, Long trailer movie. It was lovingly restored and looked as it did back in the 50's. The old TV and record player complete with a few DVD's and records to the chenille bedspreads and percolator coffee pot, we were living back in time. Out front, there are two 50's style metal chairs and a small table to sit and enjoy your coffee in the morning. The trailer park has different trailers to accommodate your needs, the office looks like an old motel lobby from the days of Route 66, Brad the owner looks the part. Off to the side is an area with an old 50's style diner building with an outdoor screen and metal chairs to sit outside in the evening and watch a movie, which we did and had a ball. We loved every minute at Shady Dell and would go back in a minute to stay in another trailer. Such a fun experience. A few of the trailers have showers, all have toliets and sinks. There is a separate building that houses community showers which are very convenient. read more

Wanted to like this place, such a cool idea, but so many flaws. Maybe it's just gone downhill, kind of seemed like no one really cares about the place. Not sure there were any employees on site at any time, other than the person who took our order and made our food. No one to greet us or hand us keys (keys sit in the doors). It was a creepily empty and unsafe facility, with, I think, one other party of rowdy (perhaps drunk?) 20 year olds who definitely did not care about their noise level throughout the night. The burger from dinner was good, but breakfast didn't open until 10am, which kind of defeats the purpose of hanging around there any longer than we had to. Unfortunately will not return and would not recommend. read more

I really wanted to like this place and for one night, it was okay. But I would not have stayed longer nor would I go back. First, they have no on-site help. If there was an emergency, I have no idea who you would call. Second, they don't maintain the trailers well. Our trailer was dirty; the floors and the counter in the kitchen. Ours had: - torn curtains in the front - a broken window in the back - super noisy fridge that went off and on all night - kitchen not fully equipped; no glasses, just two cups and not enough silverware for even two people - no needle on the phonograph even though the trailer was advertised to have a phonograph and records - two small children when we got there despite it being a no-child place. They were likely the handy guy's and beautiful but if it's no kids, then no kids. - no "vintage black and white tv" as advertised - broken pocket door (which would have helped with the fridge noise if not broken) - No light in the bathroom I wrote to the owners about these issues; never heard back from them. As I said to them, "It's okay that it's not all fresh and new; we get the vibe. But it should be clean and serviceable and it was not." Third, it is right near a very busy intersection, the windows are old and you will hear a lot of street noise. Lastly, if you are a big guy, the trailers will feel very cramped. Consider that when booking. One bright spot was the couple from Denmark next door who we had a great conversation with. read more

Shady Dell is a quite concept. We stayed in the Chris Craft Yacht. It was very y creatively decorated. Our only complaint was the toilet. It overflowed and made the flow wet during our stay. The owner responded to our call and brought a plunger and extra towels. But, we found out the next morning that this was a recurring problem. It should have been fixed before the room was rented again. When I was plunging it sounded like the water was going into the holding tank but not down into the sewer. That needs to be corrected. I tried calling the site with this suggestion but they didn't answer and the voicemail box was full. That's not very professional. Management needs to regain control of all aspects of the business. I also tried to call the evening we stayed to complain that the internet signal was unavailable. That evening I was able to leave a voicemail but I never received a return call and the internet wireless signal never appeared, even the next morning. In summary - it's a cute place but needs more hands on management attention. read more

A group of us stayed for the weekend in 4 separate trailers, and believe me when I say we had the absolute best time ever. The trailers were gorgeous, clean and comfy and the food from Dots was amazing. Every staff member was delightful, especially Jennifer who took SUCH great care of us all weekend! We saw this place years ago and never had a chance to stay but we finally made time this past week. My daughter booked a Thurs to Friday. We stayed in the 1957 Traveleze. A cute little pink and white one. Small but it was just the two of us so ok. No check in, the key was left in the door and when we checked out we left the key in the door as well. I was hesitant but it was very clean in side and the mattresses on the twin beds were doable. We did not cook so I don't even know if the stove worked. The only thing negative was the bathroom light did not work. I took a small lantern so we kept that on low in there during the night. The AC worked great. The only other thing kind of unnerving was that we were the only ones there. It was quiet but did not really like the fact not a lot of people there. There was a car parked behind us at a trailer and heard people but not sure if they worked there or not. For the most part it was nice. It was a nice evening out and we sat outside in the lounge chairs talking. Nice to get away from the hustle and bustle. Would I go back, probably not but it was an experience I will never forget especially since it was time spent with my daughter. read more

Omg....just...omg. Seriously people....go stay here. It is SO MUCH FUN!!! What a step-back in time!! Is it an odd little place, yes but thats the fun. Seriously, Engelbert Humperdink records in the camper!? The attention to detail is spot on. It was really fun actually listening to those records and having a martini courtesy of the shaker and glasses in the camper. The place is super quiet, super unique and all-around fun. It backs up to a cemetery which adds a little bit of a spook factor but hey, that's Bisbee!!!! Lowell is right down the street and has a fantastic breakfast and dont forget to say hi to the mayors there We enjoyed our trip so much, we are thinking about buying a getaway home there. My mom was born in 1951. I never really thought about it. I mean - she is my mom, she is older, she was born in a time I don't know much about and it's just fine like that. Besides - I love my modern comfort too much, and coming back to a time without the internet, good A/C and frozen entrees would be too much for me. That was until I got to stay in the Mansion. A 33 feet long Spartan Classic RV originally from - you guessed it - '51. You step in and you are in another world. Every single detail is taken care of - from the 45 disks to the hairnets in the bathroom. Even the radio plays oldies music AND commercials, and the black and white TV looks so alien that it was hard for me to believe that I used to have something quite similar at home in my tender age.... Red kitchen. Kitschy decor with lots of items to marvel upon (my favorite being the cat lamp which glows a green light...see the pic for yourself) August 1951 issue of the National Geographic. How neat is that?!?!? And classic movies.....we watched "Plan 9 From Outter Space" (extraterrestrial beings raise the dead to overcome humans - doesn't it sound just fascinating?) and couldn't stop laughing. Even though we were facing a graveyard. But I was not worried about zombies. I just stared at the million of stars above my head, savoring a glass of wine and listening to Frank Sinatra. Precious moments. And precious people. Jennifer who welcomed us on our arrival, and Ken who showed us around the next day were just as nice and friendly as their campground in this lovely little town. Tip: It's a little tricky to find. If you are on the 80 coming from Old Bisbee, take a left just before the roundabout and the gas station. You totally miss the sign! read more

This is one of the coolest places I've ever stayed. We celebrated some friends bdays there this weekend. There were 5 couples and each couple had their own trailer. We chose the El Rey because it had one large bed for us when most had 2 single beds. My wife is smoking hot and I need to sleep next to her. Brad, the manager, was super helpful and very accommodating. This place is just perfect, from the trailers, to the old time music that's played throughout the park, to the old cars, to the records and record players in each camper, it's just an amazing experience. I added some photos, but didn't upload them all to keep you curious and visit the Shady Dell some time soon! Our expectations were high and the Shady Dell definitely exceeded them! The decor in the yacht matched the theme and of the era. The staff (we met Jennifer) was friendly and made the process of checking in and out very easy. We weren't familiar with the area of Old Bisbee, but were surprised there was a lot of character to it. We had an amazing time wandering, taking photos, admiring art, and wishing to never leave! We spent one night at the Shady Dell recently. There were four of us and we rented the Royal Mansion trailer and The Mansion trailer. Both offered a double bed, a bathroom, a sitting area, a refrigerator and a kitchen table. It was a fun and unique experience although for any extended stay in the area, I would recommend a conventional hotel room. The trailers were decorated with vintage furniture and appliances including a record player with old albums and 45's. The air conditioning worked great. The bathroom was a tight fit and there wasn't a shower in the trailer but a nice, clean communal bathroom with showers was conveniently located on the property. Beds are small and I could have used a bigger pillow. No cable to watch or internet but we had a fun evening eating snacks and playing board games in our trailer. Some of our neighbors sat outside drinking beer on the patio chairs located outside each trailer. The weather was perfect that October evening. They also have grills if you want to barbecue. The price was very reasonable at $85 per night. It's a short drive from the Shady Dell to the heart of Bisbee where you can find several nice restaurants, none of which are chain restaurants. The trailers were right next to a cemetery but none of us found that creepy. Bottom line: a fun, unique and memorable stay as long as you don't mind the lack of conventional amenities. read more

I wanted to stay here so bad and I have to say that even after all the longing (for years) it exceeded my expectations. It's an incredible blast from the past. Part of the fun is exploring what's in the cupboards. Even the cups and glasses are vintage or keep in the vintage theme, old records, games and videos are included. Finally got to stay here. This is such a hidden gem. It is just as amazing as you can imagine. I had the tiny tiny 1957 room and it was perfect for a solo traveler wanting peace and quiet. It is a bit off the main drag of Bisbee which is actually a good thing in that it is much more relaxing. Downtown Bisbee is like mike away so no problem. The place itself is by Lowell AZ which is like a movie set from the 1950s. It is basically a well preserved 50s ghost town with a breakfast spot called Bisbee Breakfast club. Walking around at night is creepy cool for sure. Anyhow... stay here. This spot is tip top. read more

Every time we are in Bisbee we make sure we get breakfast at The Shady Dell. It's small, it's quaint, and the atmosphere can't be beat. Sure you could go to one of the other breakfast spots and wait 20 minutes for your Denny's esque meal, or you can get some of the best breakfast tacos in town. Maybe you're a fan of thick cut bacon, no problem here. Need some jambalaya and eggs to stave off that hangover from a long night in the gulch. They got you. Stop in, eat, enjoy. read more
