Well, we came to the bar in the hotel, so that is what this review is about. When we ALL left the Opera house and ALL requested an Uber at the same time, with the Uber dynamic pricing, it was too expensive! So I decided to get a drink. Quality/Quantity - Wanted a nightcap after our concert at the Sydney Opera House. Not sure why but there were so few places open...? You would think that the businesses would want to earn a few extra $$ after a concert? Or was it because it was a Wednesday night? Well, I was glad this place was open. Good local drafts, 12 choices. I got the Pirate Life IPA, why not, I was on the water, LOL. I believe they also have food during the day. Appetizers, salad, pizza, taco, sandwiches, etc. Atmosphere - Small bar in the hotel. I think it is a good location. Outdoor and indoor seating, but it was cold, so no one was outside. Private events are also available. Open 7 days a week from 10am to 3am (or close). Service - Okay. Discounts for locals in the same trade. Price - No idea, as I just wanted another drink while waiting for the Uber prices to drop. My wife was ready to go home, and was willing to pay the inflated Uber price. I was willing to get another beer and wait it out. I lost... We left after only one beer. BTW - 10% surcharge on Sundays and holidays. I have seen this in a few places/businesses. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success, it is good to see you cater to both the tourist and locals. First, the manager/owner? Spectacular man, excellent banter, we would take him home if we could. But we will be taking home chicken salt, and we'll think of him fondly when we sprinkle it. The food - we split a burger and elote corn ribs. Best burger we've had in ages - it had everything - a little kick, a ton of flavor, and was way plenty to share. It came with fries/chips that had a bbq seasoning on them, and they were so crisp and delicious. But OMG the elote corn ribs - we would abandon our home country and relinquish citizenship to sit in the pub and eat those all day, every day. Service - You order and pay at the bar, and the counter person was friendly enough. The real service came from this manager looking guy, who worked his arse off the whole time we were there. He's a rockstar. A must do while waiting for your cruise ship or your flight home from a cruise. Perfect for a bite after visiting the opera house. Highly recommend. read more

A pleasant surprise on Circular Quay without the high price tag. I ordered a side salad (substantial!) and the Tacchino pizza. Delicious. Add in a pint of beer and it was a great meal with prompt service. Good for singles, couples and small groups. The music could be dialed down a bit...but hey, it's a pub on the wharf in Sydney. After work, I dropped by here just for quick pizza. My friend ordered a beer and bite my pizza and I ordered my favourite Margherita pizza and a coke. Pizza is smaller than I expected and taste ok. Not really good or not really bad and so so. Outside tables are available. Due to on Tuesday, it wasn't too busy, however, it was quite exciting. Not for us but some guests were doing beer tasting before ordered the beer. I thought it's nice. BTW I do not drink alcohol at all and it was first time for me to visit pub! It was very pleasant experience for me. People said that pub meals are cheep and good! Indeed, I agree with that. Came here when everything else was closed or closing around 10 after the Melbourne Cup (what??) and it was a good decision. First try of Australian cider and beer and I have to say that I like it! I also had the greek salad which was light on the olives and heavy on the dressing, but overall good (I will say light on the olives until it is too many olives for most people though...) Good range of pizzas with totally different flavours. The pizzas are large enough for one person who has an appetite. The three of us enjoyed three different pizzas and gave each pizza a 5 star rating,....pretty unusual for my critical friends. The atmosphere of the place was quiet and cooling after the hassle of Circular Quay wharf. There was a good range of wine and beer also. I would have to say that this is one of my favourite pubs on Circular Quay. Okay, there aren't that many pubs here (ignoring the Opera Bar because that is at the Opera House) so the competition isn't all that fierce (and considering the other one is The Paragon, the bar is pretty low), however it isn't so much the atmosphere (which is good by the way) but rather the really friendly and helpful staffmember. I had ordered a pot of tea (yes, it does tea and coffee) only to discover that my ferry was leaving really, really, soon, so she very helpfully took me tea, put it into a takeaway cup, and added some sugar as well. With service like that I definitely have to give this place a few stars. Mind you, it does get really, really packed at night (I've always had problems finding a seat) however that isn't much of a problem if you come early enough. If you believe you are in for a treat like that then you're nothing but a land lubber destined for a date with a chest full of fool's gold --- It's pure fantasy me hearties. The Ship Inn could be a great thematic destination in the Quay, but what it ends up being is a pit-stop pub where you have a couple and move on to somewhere better (which is literally any other location in the Quay). The outdoor section is actually quite nice, particularly around lunchtime, but even early afternoon, you have to batten down the hatches, raise the jolly roger, and set sail because it blows a gale that'll see you blown off course. The inside isn't even worth talking about. There's a large poker machine section which 90% of people will never see (a good thing) but the rest of the interior is sparse and not particularly inviting. It gets cramped quickly and with such poor service at the bar, it ends up being a bit of a nightmare to navigate through the Ship Inn's high seas. Worst of all is the mutiny your likely to cause if you even look sideways at a bouncer. He'll make you and your entire crew walk the plank, straight into shark infested waters... and where's the fun in that? If you want to have a swashbuckling good night full of sea shanty's, old wive's tales, treasure maps, and sailing around the horn --- choose just about anywhere else in the Quay. The Ship Inn is a confusing mix of local happy hour drunk mill and tourist shelter that I seem to find myself mixed up in embarrassingly too often. I admittedly turn my nose up at pub food (sorry not sorry) and had was reluctant to eat here at a colleagues suggestion, but they've got a good thing going in that kitchen; The chorizo and pumpkin salad is omg-worthy, and I've also had a bit of their pizzas, which they bus around during happy hour. There's other options on the menu but the pizza always wins out. For everyone! If you can snare a seat outside then good luck as it can be hard to find one but inside is quite nice and roomy and even a couple of couch/booths if that tickles your fancy. A drink is more expensive than I had hoped for but I'm not sure if that's because I'm in The Rocks or it's a public holiday. Maybe both? Came back the next day at a much earlier time for lunch. Several business men were also there so it seemed a popular place for locals to grab lunch.
