I was a visitor to Fort Bragg went my car started making a strange noise. My wife was here for a job and I came to visit her. This is her car and we needed it the next day for my flight out of Santa Rosa airport. We had the most wonderful experience with The Shop--if you're looking for honest and compassionate professionals to work on your car, this is the place to go! A friend and I were road-tripping down from OR when her car overheated and stranded us 40 miles from our hotel in Mendocino. After letting it cool (and praying some desperate prayers), we managed to make it to our hotel and the next morning I started calling places. The Shop was the only one with openings so we quickly took the little Civic over and let them look at it. After just a few hours of us enjoying breakfast at a cafe down the street, they called to say they had run a full diagnostic and hadn't found a definite cause of the overheat but did walk us through what the potential problem *could* be if we found ourselves overheating again. (They told us it wouldn't be worth digging into that possible solution unless the overheating continues to be a consistent problem.) They did not charge us a dime for the time they took to check out the car or for the extra coolant they added. Each person we talked to was friendly, positive, and very professional. We were so grateful to have found a trustworthy mechanic who didn't attempt to up-sell or over-charge us. Butter my butt and call me a biscuit! When my Toyota burned up an alternator during my stay in Fort Bragg, I had it towed to 'The Shop' and left overnight. I was mad as ever and left with no options. I made the call, left the voice message after hours, and hoped for the best. I received a call bright and early that next morning during a stupor. BOOM, the Toyota was ready to be inspected and corrected. Bossman had a new alternator shipped in from a neighboring city and installed the very next day. They were able to complete the job quickly and for an affordable price. My right brake light was out on my Honda CRV and after figuring out to get to the light itself the panel screw was stripped and so I was stuck. Because we were traveling I didn't have a drill to force out the screw. The guys at The Shop were amazing and had the brake light replaced in 10 minutes at no charge! My rear Dif was going out and I asked my buddy Blake (auto mechanic) who to go to. he referred Jesse and Rylan. Told me that they had the skills to the job. I then had them look at my Isuzu Rodeo 97. they also found my front bearings in bad shaped and rec-amended to fix them. These guys pulled the job of a rear dif and front bearings within 3/4 of the day. Big job, big repair and they pulled it. In surf language "these guys killed it!". I took my car awhile back for a timing belt replacement. They did a good job and I was happy that I found a reliable company. So when my car needed attention, I made an appointment. The problem, idle too high, that needed addressing and while there to change the oil and ATF fluids. Because the idle problem is worst in the cold mornings, I made arrangements to drop my car off the night before my appt.. I received a phone call later on the next day. It went like this: We started your car and no problems with the idle. Sometimes, the sensor could need replacing. We changed the fluids and we would like to close early so please come get the car. I came as quickly as possible, paid them and then started my car. The idle did the same thing it has done for months now. I drove off extremely disappointed. They didn't even take the time to test the sensors or tell me which off the two that needs replacing. My own research lead me to the answer and the repair will be done by another mechanic. I believe that my first 'happy with service' experience was a bait and switch tactic. I would rate them lower than 1 star, if possible. BEWARE! read more

Great place and superb service! My son took a road trip to Oregon and on the way had some issues with the fender liner popping off. He's not very mechanically inclined, at all, so he tried explaining to me what was going on. After trying a couple different places that didn't really give him the time of day I called The Shop and spoke to Rylan, who was great. I explained the issue and asked if they could take a look at it and figure some kind of temporary fix just so he can get back on the road and he said it shouldn't be a problem. My son called me a little bit later telling me Rylan was super cool and got him taken care of quickly. The fact that Rylan was more than happy to help my son out, knowing this wouldn't be a repeat business type case, and when others wouldn't help at all speaks volumes about this company and their character. As a parent of an 18 year old that is taking his first trip on his own, I personally want to thank Rylan. What an awesome experience, and amazing service! We drove into a Fort Bragg from Utah for one our favorite family vacations, with a 3 year old and 9 month old! It also happened to be my 3 year olds Birthday, so when our check engine light went on the wife's stress level went through the stratosphere! After looking into a couple of the local automotive repair shops we decided to swing by 'The Shop' the repair guys were friendly and prompt, they stopped mid project to come read the check engine light. Before I left on my trip to Fort Bragg, CA I noticed my Jeep was leaking something on the ground and took it to a mechanic who said there was nothing wrong with my Jeep after charging me $130. It began leaking more once I arrived in Fort Bragg so I took it to "The Shop" and the owner was amazing and very considerate of my concern and fit me in his schedule and almost immediately saw I had a drain plug that was leaking. Went to spend the weekend in our new camper van on the coast. Coming in off hwy 20, our brakes started smoking. We made it but barely. Monday morning we got up and started making calls. Rylan was very helpful on the phone and said he could get it looked at and if the parts were available, the job done same day. No one else in town even had the time to look at it. We brought it in, problem diagnosed, but parts wouldn't be in until the morning. They put the tires back on and we had an appointment the next morning to get the work done. Rylan even went the extra mile in giving us some extra education regarding our new vehicle. The price was fair, work was done quickly, and they were even able to point us in the right direction of what we could do around town (we had the dogs).
