Despite being a suburban Instagram gym, this used to be my favorite place last year but then something happened in late December 2023 and now it's way WAY overcrowded every single hour before 10pm. Just like every other gym in the area it has members who show up just to take pics and videos of themselves when they aren't sitting on the equipment refinancing their mortgages and doing homework on their phones. They advertise as a "real gym" but there is no such thing in the entire DC area, sadly. read more

This is a great place to get a workout in! This warehouse style gym has amazing vibes, great music, and wonderful people all around. They have plenty of equipment, so I've never really had to wait for anything to become available. They also have a designated power lifting area with competition grade equipment which is perfect for those looking to compete in power lifting. They have a posing room for those competing in bodybuilding/bikini as well! All in all, I absolutely love this gym! It always feels so much nicer working out here than at my regular gym. I would instantly opt for a membership if it wasn't out of the way from my house/work. For now, the $15 day passes shall suffice. read more

Thank you*** Overall Review: If you are a bodybuilder or powerlifter then this is the place for you! I have visited The Shop Gym three times since they have opened and can honestly say that this is probably the best gym I have ever experienced and may only be rivaled by places like the Oxygen Gym in Kuwait. The Shop Gym has definitely lived up to their nickname "the Mecca of Manassas" and workouts there are epic. If you live in Manassas go and join immediately. If you live around the Greater DC area then you must visit this gym. If you visit the area from out of town then you must visit this gym. Everyone, go to this gym!!! Gym Grading Rubric: Facility (4.75 Stars): Located in an industrial park of Manassas, the building is a massive yet unassuming warehouse affair. - Quality (5 Stars): The building is new and spacious with lots of room to move between areas and machines. - Atmosphere (4.5 Stars): As soon as you enter this place you feel excited and pumped just looking at all it has to offer. My only critique is that the music, while awesome and motivating, is played at levels which make it extremely difficult to carry on a conversation. We might could turn the dial down a bit. - Cleanliness (5 Stars): Overall cleanliness of the workout area and equipment is great. No complaints. - Hours of Operation (4.5 Stars): While not a local area member myself, if I was I would like better hours. They are open during the week from 7 am - 10 pm which pretty good but not for those early riser looking to get the lifting in before work. Weekend hours are 8 am - 8 pm. Again good hours but not as good as other area gyms open on the weekends at 7 am - 10 pm. For the expense of membership (see below) one might also expect 24 hour access. Perhaps they will move that in that direction after they have been open longer and see increased memberships. Equipment (5 Stars) - Type (5 Stars): This place has it all. I have seen machines that I rarely see anywhere else such as a true vertical leg press and even a unicorn, the standing chest press! I'm not even sure what else they have that I might have missed because there are so many cool pieces of equipment to choose from. They have cardio machines though not a ton of them like LA Fitness. - Serviceability (5 Stars): While some machines are obviously older than other everything appears to be in good working order. No complaints. - Amount (5 Stars): Like I said earlier, there are so many pieces of equipment, dead lift stations and squat racks that one should almost never have to wait to get their designed workout in. Utilities & Amenities (4.5 Stars): - Bathrooms/Showers (3.5 Stars): This facility is a warehouse and industrial so I wasn't expecting luxury bathrooms and I wasn't disappointed. The bathroom situation is best described as "functional". They could stand to be a little better cleaned and maintained which may be due to a lack of a dedicated maintanence employee, though I'm not for sure. Also, a serious gig is that they have only one shower on the premises. If I was an area member I would expect better shower arrangements and changing area with lockers. - Wi-Fi (5 Stars): I checked their wi-fi and was able to log on and play videos with no issue. - Other (5 Stars): One of the coolest things about The Shop is that they have a real posing room with mirrors, quality/proper lighting, and even the rear 45* angled mirror so you can see your back! They have a lounge area and small kitchen with sink, microwave, and fridge. There are also a lot of cubby spaces for guests to store their bags while they train. Owners & Staff (5 Stars): ok, these folks are great. The owners, Tim and Jason (there may be a third owner I haven't met) are genuine and friendly guys. Katie, Rachel, and the other staff members I have met are also super nice, engaging, and helpful. Membership & Fees (3.5 Stars): This one is tough. Membership is $55 per month. That's significantly higher than most competitors. I don't know their financials but I suspect the higher rates are due to the operating costs associated with having the biggest and best gym in the area. If I lived in the area I would join, but I am fortunate enough to be financially able to do so. The bottoms line is it's about what you value and what you can afford. If you are visiting you have two options: $15 for a day pass or pay $100 for a ten visit punch card. Clientele (5 Stars): Powerlifters dominate but they are a friendly bunch. Great equipment, 24/7 access, no-nonsense culture. I compete in CrossFit and am able to do most of my training here. Strongly recommended!

Truly the best hard-core gym in the country. Let's start off with the parking lots which are huge and offer plenty of parking. Signage from the roadway is very small and the bathrooms are very small. There is a great selection of dumbbells and plated weight machines. Many of the machines are 15 to 20 years old and work perfectly and are in great condition. The advantage of these machines is that they truly capture the essence with the right angles of building muscle with many of the newer machines are not quite as accurate. There is a gigantic powerlifting area that is always filled with competitors. This gym also boasts the nations largest Posing room. Close to 25 yards long great selection of full length mirrors throughout and even two huge mirrors hanging from the ceiling. This is wonderful for bodybuilders, physique, figure and bikini athletes. Though not officially open for business, they do hold what I'm gonna call an 'open house' of sorts to check out the facilities (still currently under construction). What you'll find is a no-frills, warehouse stocked wall to wall of benches, weights, machines & cages. Highly motivating atmosphere from the blaring music pumping from the floor speakers to the passing frate trains, which are literally steps away, and the like-minded focused crowd this place draws in. Certainly a lifters/bodybuilders oasis in a sea of cookie cutter, club gyms in the surrounding area. From what I hear, monthly memberships will be offered at $50+/- a month & looking to officially open in October. read more

With 25,000sq/ft and all the equipment any strength athlete (powerlifting, bodybuilding, strongman, etc) could ever want, this facility will blow you away. It's also 24/7 for only $55/month! Absolutely love this gym. Love that they have a section for powerlifting. Even though it's an old school gym, they keep it really well maintained. Frequently, during my workout I noticed at least one staff member cleaning the machines. I'm very satisfied with the front desk. The staff at the front desk is very kind. I have been to many gyms in the area, and this has to be one of my favorites. Day passes are $15, not bad for what you get. This is the best gym on the east coast. They have the best equipment that you will not find at other gyms. Also, some of the best trainers in the area train out of The Shop! I love the vibe and intensity. But everyone is also super welcoming and make you feel at home. You don't have to be a competitor or power lifter to come here. Hands down best gym in the area. I've been to lifetime in Reston , 24 hours in Tyson's, YMCA in Reston , Worldgate in Herndon, Xsport in fairfax, Crunch fitness in Reston , and The Shop beats them all. So much so that I've made to commitment to drive from Reston which is a 35 min drive one way. Not even sure where to start.. the atmosphere is exactly what I was looking for to get re-motivated and back to the grind. They got great music that pays out loud so headphones arnt even necessary and the music they play is a collection of all of the members song request. Want to play something different ? Just ask the staff and they got you. It's all about the members their which is awesome! It's the people's gym not to corporations. You can lift shirtless, use chalk, yell, cheer, be whoever the fuck you wana be just as long as you rerack! The members are great too, it might be a little intimidating to first go in because everyone is huge , competes , powerlifters, bodybuilding, physique, classic and pros but I had people coming up to me making introductions. Something I've never seen before. There's just so much respect for the sport there from the whole community and this place is easily the next Bev Francis of the east coast. Plus there no enrollment fee, no contract, only month to month and you can cancel whenever. You can call, text , emails, dm , Facebook if you want to cancel no bs of having to come in and sign stuff. And there's an annual 25$ fee which goes back into the gym, whether it be equipment or facilities stuff, it's meant to improve the place for us. If you want to learn to lift in any capacity, if you want to transform your physique, if you want to be surrounded by dedication and like minded people, if you want people who understand Gym etiquette, people who respect the gym, owners who care and only care about what the members want, and if you don't want to deal with BS corporations come to The Shop. read more

This gym is amazing. I first saw it when my wife and I went to visit her father in Manassas. I didn't have a chance to go inside, but after I googled some pics of the gym, I knew it was legit. My wife ended up surprising me with a visit to the gym for my birthday this past weekend and I couldn't have been more blown away. This gym is a dedicated weightlifter's paradise. The equipment and atmosphere is everything I look for in a gym. We're thinking about getting memberships, even though we live over an hour away. The shop is finally open. If your a competitive lifter, body builder or just enjoy good work outs and hate corporate gyms this is where you should be. Nice deadlift platforms, benches and a monolift. You got dumbells that go up to 150 pounds. Also there is calibrated weights for powerlifting meet prep as well as nice specialty bars. It's 55 bucks month to month. read more
