This used to be called the Lane Avenue Mall I believe when I first came to town. It swanker name is your typical developers idea of making something seem a destination by pure image creation alone. Think the cliché: pigs with lipstick. Truth is this is just your typical strip mall with the usual cast of characters, just behind a faux throwback façade. In the days before it was re-developed it function more as an inside mall. Small though, with one single floor causeway and small stores. I loved it in my college days because it one of my favorite bookstores Little Professors--where in the early dot.com days you could get any newspaper printed out. I loved perusing their stacks. It is no longer here. The mall once had your typical Mall cafeteria where I discovered my love for Orange Chicken. Today it is anchored by a Bed Bath and Beyond and a Whole Foods. In-between are clothing and jewelry stores for women. It is basically a good place to serve the west tOSU and central-south Upper Arlington population; it's not a drawl for any other neighborhoods. Parking here has always been a hassle. With a few rows parallel Lane Avenue and a few spots in the back it is best to come on low traffic times if you can. It might take you a good 10-minutes to exit at peak times.

A theater, bookstore, shopping, restaurants, within walking distance of the towers and stadium? Wow. I'm sure students take advantage of it nowadays (I bet they drive.) And it's right by Grandview and Upper Arlington, etc., so it's handy for many people. A bit out of my way now, but we still get over here once in awhile. After all, with a Target, Staples, and the aforementioned attractions, you can get a lot done here. The theater, of course, is a big draw. And there are a few restaurants, including Corelife, Champps, and Bravo at one end, with Zoup, and pizza and sandwich places, at the other. We go to this Target sometimes, and Staples. Once in awhile World Market. I keep forgetting there's a Barnes and Noble here. It's handy off the freeway, and one of the few malls in the heart of town. Parking is easy. It's a pretty generic mall, but hey, sometimes you need the stuff that's at those.

There is a nice large parking area for the center, and there's a great sidewalk allowing you to stroll a bit if you want to check different shops and restaurants out. Highlights include the Goodie Shop (try the popular cinnamon sticks or go for another delicious baked good), the Chef-o-Nette (it apparently has one of the oldest drive thrus in the nation), the Tremont Pharmacy, and the UA Food Market, which is the current rendition of the local grocery store (formerly Huffman's and Tarpy's). My wife and I made the 90 minute trip from SE OH to World Market in Easton Plaza, as it's the only…read moreplace we can purchase replacements for our everyday silverware pattern (Treble Clef), three forks with a total price of less than $10. While browsing through the store we spotted a coffee table we both liked; it was on sale, with an additional sale price offered with a coupon...which we did not have...but which made it a great bargain. We asked about the coupon requirement, and the salesman took us to checkout where another young man assisted us in securing the coupon through our phones, while the original salesman located the very large item (coffee table) and brought it to the front of the store. This process was embarrassingly slow, as I'd picked up my 'second' cell, a smart phone I'd not yet activated for online activity, so we had to switch to my wife's phone to complete the process, taking time in a busy checkout lane. While the checkout man helped us, the salesman opened a second lane so as not to inconvenience others unduly. We were not certain that the large box would fit into the back seat of our car, but the salesman who stayed with us throughout, thought it would, even offering to unpackage it if that would help. He was (barely) correct, and loaded it for me, and I offered a cash tip which he declined. When home, pleased with our purchase, we discovered that in the process of all this, we'd not picked up the three forks, the entire purpose of our trip. Expecting another long trip would be necessary, I called the store and a young lady immediately understood out problem and set us at ease, offering to have them shipped, and called me back later with a tracking number for Fed Ex where she dropped them off on her way home after work. I can't adequately express my feelings about the help received from these three, two young man and one young woman, all unknown to us by name; I just want to say that It was a totally exemplary experience in ALL ways, demonstrating an excellent quality of staff at World Market by enabling a couple in their 80s to successfully work through a difficult shopping experience.
