The shrimp connection is a great and convenient supplier of fresh seafood in Greensboro. They have shipments a couple days a week and not just from NC coast. Not to mention their seafood and prices are competitive and even better quality than the grocery stores in the area. Hot damn! These folks take the hassle out of getting your hand on fresh, East Coast sea food. On Thursday mornings the folks that run this business head to the docks around the Topsail Island/Sneads Ferry area to select fresh, local seafood - shrimp, crabs, and a variety of fish. They have added items from other locations once a quality supplier was found - like lobster from Maine, oysters from Virginia, puffer fish from Virginia also. The truck heads back inland, and they sell their fare staring Friday at noon, and will be selling on Saturday, and even Sunday, if supplies last. You can go to their excellent website, register, signup for their weekly newsletter, and place your orders, and specify a pickup time and location - works seamlessly. Once you sign up for the newsletter, you will receive info on Thursday about what items are available, and you can make your selections. The weekly items vary depending on availability and seasonality, but frequently available items include: several choices of shrimp, clams, crab, oysters, scallops, Black Drum, Chilean Sea Bass, Cobia Steaks (you really need to try these bad boys), Cod, Flounder, Grouper, Halibut, Red Snapper, Swordfish, Triggerfish (see Cobia Steaks), and Tuna! And there are always more choices. These folks bring you what seafood should be about - it is local, if at all possible; it is never frozen, if at all possible; and they tell you were it came from and in what condition. If you want seafood cheap, don't come here, you'll not be a happy camper. If you want fresh tasting, first quality seafood to prepare for you and your family, come here, you'll all be happy campers. Suggestion (notice I didn't say Pro Tip, that so sucks), if you've never had Puffer Fish, get some - the fish is incredibly ugly and I threw them back in for years, but these are awesome just lightly floured and fried - you could close your eyes and have trouble telling whether you are eating frogs legs, chicken tenders, or crayfish. read more

Hidden Gem in Summerfield! Traveling back and forth to Greensboro and stopped at a nearby business for a necessity and could not believe my eyes when I saw this place it was too good to be true. Joy was delightful and so helpful and filled me up on yummy seafood, even got the senior discount when I mentioned my mother who was so delighted for both the discount and the seafood. This is only about 7 minutes from the Cardinal neighborhood if you live in Greensboro so check it out! read more

If you want dry packed scallops, this is one of only two places in Greensboro to get them! Dry packed are far superior to chemically treated. They taste better and its easy to get that nice brown crust on them with a screaming hot pan and the patience not to flip them too soon but I digress. The scallops, fish, shrimp I've gotten from these nice folks have always been very fresh. A bit pricy but good fresh a seafood is. Treat yourself to some scallops, cook them properly and you'll feel like you're dining in a five star restaurant right at home :-) read more

It has been a LONG time since I've been here, so, hopefully, they're still open....... Years ago, my reasons for being North of Greensboro in the Summerfield/Oak Ridge/Belews Creek/Stokesdale area ended, and, with all the construction on Battleground, the widening of 220, and then, building The Loop, too, I've avoided the area. Comparatively, my travels there were 3-4 times a week. So, as long overdue as this review is (by years), if you're in Summerfield, and need more specialty seafood choices, please stop here. The fish monger is also very knowledgeable about their product, and can offer some cooking suggestions if pressed. Plus, they're a local business, which I prefer to support. This is a great place to get fresh Eastern Seaboard caught items, that aren't always found at the grocery store. Or, if found at the store, they're usually imported, half frozen, aged, or covered in a salty brine that isn't disclosed, unless asked about directly; the employee uneducated about the practice and the fish, other than what they can read from the script corporate sends them. Even from that expensive supermarket chain, based here in NC, I was surprised to find out that most of their seafood department items are farmed raised from Thailand, or other countries, so, I don't buy seafood at grocery stores any longer- only from sources where the products are caught fairly, not farm raised, processed, treated with preservatives or color, imported, nor where the vendor has no idea about the seafood. With that being said, I'd go here if it is convenient, but, not to make a special trip from Greensboro to Summerfield, specifically for this place. It is just over an hour, round trip, for me without traffic or construction on Battleground. That might be part of my subconscious rating, too. Seafood is perhaps my favorite food of all time, and I could eat it for every meal, and do, when it is fresh caught at the beach! Whether grilled, baked, broiled, fried, stewed, etc, the offerings from The Shrimp Connection (TSC) seem to be of a consistent quality, and an asset for that side of town. I've tried their Monk fish, something popular, and cheap in the 80's, known as Poor Man's Lobster. Grilled, and dipped in butter with garlic or lemon is delectable, but, Monk Fish has become expensive and hard to find in the last decades. But, TSC, has carried it, so, that's one of the reasons I do return. I believe we've gotten different Snappers, Mackerels, Salmons, Sea Bass, Scallops, and such there, amongst others, again, consistent in their respective qualities, and tasting as expected, even in comparison to fish markets found along the coast. Course, if you can catch it yourself, there is no comparison since the ego factor trumps all. Knowing that The Fish Master here can tell you about when the seafood was caught, even by which boat, is impressive, and a great story to share over the dinner table, especially if you have guests. It made them think I was somebody important, with connections, haha. I'm deducting one star because they're only open two days a week, and for limited hours at that; in addition to the fact that they're slightly pricier than other seafood markets. I wish it could have been just half a star, but with Yelp, it is all or nothing. Hopefully, they'll increase their hours to include an additional day or two of the week, and I'll amend my listing to five stars then, even with the slightly above average prices for area fish markets, just because they are a small business, and the fish monger is knowledgeable about their products, items are wild caught, and the quality is consistent. Freshest catch in town! One of the most famous dishes in southern Italy is 'spaghetti con vongole'. After a 7 year stint I have been unable to duplicate the pure, high quality primary ingredient at our local grocery stores: incredibly fresh clams. Until now! Thank you shrimp connection for providing my palate with a taste of the Mediterranean without the plane fare. In a large pot Sauté garlic in olive oil, then add 1/2 cup chopped Italian parsley, 1/2 cup of white wine, 1/2 cup water and bring to a boil. Gently dump Guy's 'not so little' littleneck clams and steam for 2 minutes with lid on. Gently pour off excess liquid and pour clams and sauce over al dente pasta of your choice. read more

Been going to the location on Sandy Ridge for awhile. Things started going downhill recently. I bought some Halibut that was subpar (lots of fatty pieces) and when I told them about it the next week the man was very dismissive and unconcerned with my dissatisfaction. I typically spend around $100 there every weekend. So a good customer. Then bc they don't give you an itemized receipt or let you see them "ring up" your purchase you are at their mercy to do the math correctly. So yesterday I did the math once I got home and determined that I was overcharged. I'm pretty sure that this wasn't the first time. And then the final straw...a worm on my fish tonight.
