Yay! The Blackened Catfish with Red Beans and Rice is back. It's on the official menu board so not just a special. It was fantastic and we split hush puppies to "swab" up the bean juice. Izzy was great and had no problem with us jabbering and eating all night. We paid our check so she could leave. Tia took over and kept checking on us and we ended up splitting a Crème Brûlée. Everything was delicious, as usual. We did our Christmas exchange so I was happy to get a 4 top table. We were there almost from open to close so we tipped accordingly and they were very gracious. If you're looking for a great seafood place great little hole in the wall in Oak Ridge. Good selection or oysters steam shrimp was seasoned not overcooked. The fried shrimp was lightly breaded grape flavor. The cheddar grits was OK could've been a little more creamier the tartar sauce that comes with your shrimp is amazing great spice to it. Still added a little more horseradish to it. We also ordered the calamari. It was good just not a fan of marinara with my calamari. I always like the sweet chili Thai but that's a personal preference. Our waitress was amazing if you're around town definitely check this place out. read more

This small little spot in the middle of a shopping center serves up good seafood, IF you know what to order. The service is a bit hit or miss. Stick with the fried shrimp and the fried flounder. Most of the sides are made in house and their salads are pretty decent, though there's never a new seasonal addition. The homemade cocktail and tartar sauce are delicious. They also offer to go food, which I would recommend being that the space is a little cramped. They could also offer some handheld menus, but apparently the chalkboard is part of their brand, going back to the owner's days at Bert's. The desserts are pretty good too, especially the Key Lime pie. read more

The à la carte King Crab Legs were very disappointing. The crab legs were small, dry and didn't have much meat. The butter did not come in a warmer but in a small cup. By the end of the meal the butter was cold. The house salad was nice but the blue cheese dressing didn't have much flavor. The key lime pie was excellent. The service was pleasant and quick. I am shrimply over the half shell (hehe) that I finally got out to try Ridge! It was absolutely phenomenal. Everything from the service to the most amazing dessert I've ever had in my entire life. We came in for dinner on Saturday evening for my mom's birthday during prime dinner time. It was quite busy, but we somehow got three spots right at the bar! They offer a big selection of wine and beer, and a large (but not overwhelmingly large!) food menu. I had the Southern Fried Catfish, with grits, grilled squash/zucchini and a cup of the Caribbean Seafood Chowder. My dad ordered Shrimp Scampi, and my mom a 1/2 lb of Fried Shrimp. Everything was very good! Huge portions. The chowder was out of this world! The seasoning was on point. Now y'all, I don't take this lightly. The Banana Bread Pudding was hands down THE most delicious dessert I've ever had in my entirety. SERIOUSLY. It is outstanding. The bits of creme brulee baked into the bread, topped with ice cream and a drizzle of caramel. I will go back there just for that if nothing else (but will definitely be back for other things!). Mondays they have fried flounder and a side for $15.95 and Tuesdays 1/2 price fried shrimp. Last but certainly not least, I want to say how friendly the staff are. Lynne is the best ever! She gave great recommendations, is super knowledgeable of the menu, and attentive but not overbearing. Emma was so sweet, too, and it was great to chat with the owners. Somehow we have missed this place in the Oak Ridge shopping center for the last couple of years but had a friend tell us about it and glad they did. It's a quaint little spot with friendly staff and a heavy seafood focused menu (on the wall) with a pretty robust assortment of apps, sides, mains, and desserts. We were told the shrimp and grits and crab cakes were the best so we tried the shrimp. It was pretty good... my wife really enjoyed it but I thought it was a tad under seasoned and the tomatoes seemed to be an after thought. You typically expect more spice and flavor in that dish. The shrimp could have also really benefitted from being grilled or seared to give them a bit of texture. They seemed more steamed than anything. I tried the grilled tuna steak with potatoes and green beans. The tuna was ok (especially the mustard dill sauce) but it fell a little flat if I'm honest. It really could have used a harder sear to give it some texture and flavor. The green beans needed some salt and the potatoes could have used some butter or cream sauce. Overall, it was a solid 3 stars but I will definitely go back and look to adjust my rating up soon! read more

This was my 3rd visit to Ridge, previous meals had been so so. I thought I would give it one more try. Unfortunately things have not improved. I really enjoy sitting at the bar location since it provides plenty of room. The wait staff is friendly and accommodating. Here is the so so: All of the dishes on the menu look so appetizing however I struggle to find much flavor. The crab dip needed to be seasoned and baked more and tasted very fishy. The catfish was nicely breaded but lacked flavor. Beer is a bit pricy with no on tap options. My biggest issue this visit was the owner. As soon as our food was delivered, he leaned over the bar with his phone..literally right in my daughter's face and about 5inches above her plate and took a picture. No words were spoken. It was a very odd and uncomfortable situation, as he was definitely in her personal space. We determined later that the picture was taken because there were too many fries on the plate and he was going to show the kitchen staff. I feel this was unprofessional and will not return to this restaurant. read more

This seafood place was a crazy surprise for how good it was. It's a small unassuming little place in Oak Ridge (from the outside). Don't let that fool you. The menu is filled with so many delicious options!! Like gourmet options, not your typical seafood options!! I had grilled scallop special. Cooked perfectly and so filled with flavor. I felt like I was on an island eating at a resort. We had fried calamari , and oysters - both wonderful. The fried shrimp- highly recommend!! Ridge Shrimp & Oyster harkens back to the iconic Bert's Seafood. Drew Lacklen has recreated Bert's including the famous blackboard menu, seafood specials, and desserts. The space is small, possibly smaller than Bert's was, which lends a bit of exclusivity to dining there. They don't take reservations so come early, come late, or wait. Seriously, the tables will be full by 5:30. If you must wait, it is worth it as Ridge is the best seafood in the Triad. read more

The place was crowded which seemed to bode well for an enjoyable dinner. We were sat within 10 mins but the place is small so if the crowd was bigger you could wait longer. However we enjoyed the food. Seafood was fresh and tasted good. We had shrimp and grits and shrimp with Cajun cream sauce plus grit cakes. A side of sweet potato fries we're crust but the bbq corn on the cob was meh. Tasted like frozen and not fresh which is a shame given the season. Definitely great seafood! The menu is posted on the wall, with lots of healthy options, plenty of sides, and some great sounding desserts. We both enjoyed our plates! The crab cakes were made with real crab and dipped in a great tartar sauce. The 1/2 pound shrimp plate was huge. The shrimp were big and meaty with just the perfect amount of breading. The hush puppies were a must have. They have a hint of a sweet flavor and we're great with a little butter. This place is worth the try! The couple beside us said they can get crowded after 6pm, which speaks for itself! They also said they have been there many times and have never had a bad experience! The crab cakes were highly recommended by the waitress. They were fairly small and deep fried and filled with what looked like snow crab. no texture and little to no flavor. The plate had 2 large boiled potatoes and a few under cooked spears of asparagus. The key lime pie that was the best i had ever had a few years ago here, was not the same recipe, although it was good, it was not as good as it used to be. The prices were very high, $25.95 for the crab cake dinner was one of the least expensive. $100 for 2 people with one glass of wine and an added salad and 1 dessert and tip. My wife and I ate here during our time house sitting for my in laws. We went on a whim and were very pleasantly surprised. It became our favorite place to eat in the area. We loved everything we had. We also liked that the food is fresh and sourced locally. The fish and grits were amazing. The grits were creamy and decadent, and the fish was fried to perfection. My wife is a crab dip connoisseur. Great food! I would give 4.5 stars. There are a few little quirks for the restaurant. 1. No menus - everything is on a big blackboard. No real descriptions of the menu items. And a lot of items, like side items are small and on the other side of the board, which can be hard to read. The wine and beer menu on the other side of the room. Too small to read. 2. Other than beer and wine, I didn't see anything else to drink. 3. It's a tiny restaurant. Always seems to be packed. If I didn't make a reservation, we wouldn't have been seated. read more

Absolutely no better fish and value anywhere... not just Guilford County. Had the potato crusted grouper that you would swear was fried but baked!! Crispier and delicious and these guys know how to buy fresh fish that is at the top of the food chain. And no question this is the largest portion anywhere. Had tarter and drawn butter to try and both worked very well... and as an aside best cole slaw and hush puppies around. Better than anything I get at the North and South Carolina beaches!! Incredible values and I drive 25 minutes to get there because it is worth it!!Kudos!! read more

Super straight forward and we'll executed menu. Everything is moderately priced and served with generous portions. I had the special, Tandoori Salmon and my wife the blackened salmon. Both very good and $24 and $21 respectably. Also, have a raw/steamed bar of clams, oysters and shrimp (not raw shrimp of course). That's not rocket science but damn tough to find these and was a lot more common in the earlier days. If you wanna have a couple beers/glass of wine and enjoy the clams, shrimp, oysters this is your blast from the past. If you're seeking a nice casual pescatorian meal it works great as well.
