If you can, rent your skis off the mountain or get the insurance. These shysters will try to cheat…read moreyou otherwise. I rode for a day and a half on nothing but snow and ice. I never took them off course, never did jumps, never went over rocks or sticks. When I returned them, they asked if I bought the insurance and when I said no, they blamed me for two gashes on the skis. If those gashes came from me, then their skis are soft and you shouldn't rent from them anyway. But I'm certain they weren't. There is absolutely nothing I rode over that could have caused that. I should have just walked out but instead paid their ridiculous fee. But lesson learned. Not getting my skis from them again and since they are the main shop in town, I suggest you get your skis out of town (I never had problems with the shop at the bottom of the mountain, but they are connected).

Just rented skis and poles (I have my own boots) for two days and was very happy. I was assisted…read moreby Levi, who was really knowledgeable about the skis and was able to match them to my ability (advanced Intermediate), performance goals (agile in turns but stiff and secure on ice), and the demands of the mountain given current conditions. Not surprisingly, I ended up on their Demo skis (I am very demanding), but those were still cheaper than even the regular sport skis at the Snowshoe rental places -- and significantly cheaper ($17/day) than Demo skis would have been at Snowshoe. They put a fresh coat of wax on them before giving them to me -- a very nice touch (and much appreciated). I recommend reserving your skis 24 hours in advance online to get the 10% discount. Don't worry about which level of ski to rent (regular, sport, or demo) as they will apply the discount to whatever level of ski you end up with. The store is located on the mountain near the Silver Creek ski area which is about 2.6 miles from the main Villiage Ski areas (and where night skiing occurs). We picked up the skis by car when we first arrived the evening before at no extra charge, but it is also accessible via the snowshoe bus. Note: While writing this I read a negative review from last year regarding insurance. I did not get insurance, and noone mentioned anything when I returned the skis with several course-of-skiing gouges/scratches on the bottoms from ice and rocks on the slopes from grooming so perhaps last year was a one-off. You should not have to pay for damage from normal on-piste skiing.

It was absolutely shocking how bad this place was. I will say the employees (other than the one who…read moregot us our gear) were all nice but did not care about the business. The guy who helped us barely said anything to us. I let him know we had a reservation for rental gear, he didn't say anything but just started pulling out gear. He didn't tell us to try out the gear or anything. The other couple we were with had never skied before, luckily we were there with them to tell them to try on the boots for fit and make sure everything worked. The equipment was in the worst shape I have ever seen from any ski rental store. The helmet had white flakes inside of it. We requested one adult ski bib in our reservation and they were out of them when we arrived (early December). I asked about the 15% discount for booking lodging through Casago (the email from Route 66 confirming my rental reservation told me about this discount) and he said they don't do that but he would still throw on a discount for our order. As we were leaving and taking out our gear we walked by the ski poles outside, I hadn't realized the guy did not even give us our ski poles. We had to go back in and ask if we could just grab some. He said yes and we did so and when I ended up on the slopes I realized my poles were different lengths. The shop is in a strip mall type building and is connected to the Why Not Shop (gift shop) and Route 66 restaurant. They provide the address in the email confirmation but the GPS will not correctly take you here (ours took us to the building before this one and our friend's GPS took them several miles past the store). Every other ski rental shop I have been to they help you put on the boots and fit you for ski poles and usually give me tips on the correct way of doing things. This place offered zero customer service along with the rentals. The prices were good (since it was not in the ski village and instead was about 15 minutes away at the bottom of the mountain) but this is the only ski rental store I have been to that I had a bad experience. Renter beware.

They have toddler sizes. This place also has a restaurant and a store with unusual items like root bear and peach licorice; amazing fudge in amazing flavors, honestly the best graphics I've seen in awhile on their T-shirts upstairs. Can get wild boar jerky here too. Hadn't been here in awhile; they were just as nice yesterday as they were a few years ago.

Experienced snow tubing and snowboarding for the first time during my visit to Snowshoe Mountain. I…read moredidn't stay on the actual resort, we had got an air bnb about 20 mins away. While on the resort though, I did like how the lodging looked. If I were to go back I definitely would instead just go ahead and stay on the mountain resort because driving through the woods / mountain to get to and from the resort to the air bnb was not fun at all; especially at night! Snow tubing: we went snow tubing during the night time. There weren't too many other people there during this time, so the line to keep tubing over and over wasn't much of a wait at all. I give the experience a 10/10 overall. It was fun and different. Snowboarding: when we first got into all our gear and equipment, we were just told to go outside. We were all under the impression that we would receive a tutorial or instructional presentation about first time snowboarding, but that did NOT happen. Had entirely no clue there was even a "practice" area until after I slipped and fell on the ice and my snowboard went flying down the mountain and into the woods. I went and got help from the emergency team who then informed us that there was a practice area to go to first. I ended up staying in that practice area the whole time and completely wasted my money on having a ski lift ticket. I thought a practice area would've been at the bottom of the mountain where we'd start at, so the ski lift ticket would be needed once you're comfortable and can go ski/snowboard from the very top but no, u start at (like get on the actual slope at) and the practice area are both mid - mountain. Overall the experience was a 7/10. It's possible I'll give Snowshoe another try in the future now that I've experienced what it's like. My overall rate of experience : 7/10

Top of the World Condos are one of the best located lodging venues at Snowshoe Mountain, WV. It is…read moreone building with about 100 one-bedroom units, and although the building went up in the early '80s, the units - all independently and individually owned - have undergone recent renovations. The building itself was renovated in 2007 and it cheered up its facade, added new siding and paint, and an overall face lift. As a result, it is hard to rate the individual units as a whole. Some are absolutely impeccable, yet some are 1980 originals with the old cheap paneling. The thing about the units. First, one enters through a central hallway, and the main bedroom's windows do not face the outside, but face the inner hallway. Down a corridor, the unit opens up into a great room/dining/kitchen that in almost all cases, features a sofa bed. Some of the units have opened up the kitchen to create a real great room with modernized appliances. The great room has two windows to either the East, facing the Widowmaker slope, or the Western views that are spectacular. The location of Top of the World is amazing. It has the new Soaring Eagle high-speed quad literally outside the Eastern wall, so it's a great place to call home for a ski vacation. Top of the World is one of the check-in venues at Snowshoe, and it also provides a fully-stocked ski shop and a restaurant bar, which frequently changes names, given the high mortality rates of dining establishments at ski resorts. Another great thing about Top of the World is its location next to the new Soaring Eagle Lodge, which features Ember restaurant, the top restaurant within a 200-mile radius. If you have a small family or a small group, it is a relatively inexpensive, good and VERY centrally located place to stay.

Horrible paneling, hideous green carpet, no remote for the LR tv, no paper towels just ONE old linen napkin. Good thing nobody was staying with me. The shower/tub was a little springy and I was afraid that if i stayed in too long I may end up in the ski shop downstairs. I enjoyed the paper thin walls so I could hear the condo next door being renovated. The "fully" stocked kitchen had no glasses bigger than a juice glass. Everything else in the place was very random, like it had been decorated from the Salvation Army. There was a decent bar downstairs and being located right on the slopes were about the only positives for this place. Oh did I mention with tax and other fees I paid $200 for ONE night. Anywhere else this would be a $35 room full of truckers and hookers. Not that I would know anything about those places. Snowshoe Mtn is a great place to ski, just avoid Top of the World condos.
