Came 2 years ago food was phenomenal, they had a large menu to order from Came last night food was trash, menu was minimal and over priced. Paid $40 for a 60z "Strip" it most definitely was not a NY strip MAYBE a sirloin. It was disgusting and I do mean absolutely just nasty. They told me you can't decide temperature but it comes out MR-M which I would've ordered anyways but then the steak came out well done and covered in water gravy. They have barely any steak sauce options so you can't even make it good. The server was really nice and attentive though. I don't recommend eating here though, maybe just drinks. read more

Had a great experience at The Sly Fox Pub in Southern Pines! From the moment we walked in to the time we were seated, the service was warm, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. We ordered the shrimp and grits, which were rich, flavorful, and topped with crispy bacon. For appetizers we had mozzarella sticks and bang bang shrimp, and both were delicious. The bang bang shrimp especially had the perfect crispy texture with a creamy, slightly spicy sauce. We also tried a build-your-own quesadilla, which came out hot, cheesy, and packed with flavor. It was a nice afternoon, so we sat in the patio. Our server was amazing! She was extremely tentative and considerate. Best server! We ordered 2 french toast, fish fry, chicken biscuit with hash browns and chicken biscuit with grits. The one French toast plate came out a little undercooked but our server was amazing and had it replaced immediately. Came with candied walnuts on top. Overall the French toast was good! Kids ate it all up. The biscuits were too crispy for our preference so we didn't really eat that part. The chicken was a huge portion but a bit too fried for my liking. Food was very good! I loved the UK style fish and chips and mushy peas but it was on the salty side. Burgers had good flavor but a little undercooked. Chicken pot pie was excellent with no complaints. The butter chicken was a bit salty as well but tasty. Onion rings were probably top 3 onion rings I've ever had and the goat cheese ranch was to die for! Holy fish and chips Batman! I'd give this place 5 stars just for the fish and chips and the atmosphere. But then boom, we got a chicken pot pie and it knocked it out of the park also. Then the Sly Fox said, "hold my beer...try this poutine". Daaaaamn!! 3 for 3! Oh, and you want to try some British made snacks and candies, we got an area for that too. Now I'm in a food coma and dying with Cadbury chocolate dripping out of my mouth. This is my favorite place in Southern Pines to stop and eat at when I'm passing through. The vibe is perfect and screams, "Aye, you chaps are in Britain!" Never had a bad meal. Service is really good. I usually go during off hours so I can't speak for when it gets busy. So much more on the menu to try, I'll add more photos as I go but I'll just leave the review as is. read more

This is my second visit to this restaurant. I wasn't thrilled about coming after my visit last year, but I was invited by the group I was traveling with. I struggled trying to find something that would satisfy my pallet. Of course, my daughter didn't like anything on the main menu. We asked for the kids menu and to be frank, I actually wanted something off that menu versus the main courses. I settled on the Pub burger. I asked for medium well. My burger was just flat out well done and border line burnt. The fries were ok. They weren't warm. The decor was the same as last year on the back room. The space could be utilized better. We had a larger group and we were sitting so close to each other. The waitress couldn't even walk around the table because it was pushed so far back towards the wall. She had to reach over people on my side to hand me the hot dishes. I see this as a safety hazard. I don't know...maybe the bar area is the place to be in this spot. read more

British pub ambience. They were out of the shepherds pie. I was excited to see it used lamb and not beef. That's a different dish. Fish and chips were very good. Lemme tell you about Sly Fox. I had a wedding in High Point Yesterday afternoon. 1hr40 Drive to venue for private family dinner. Sly fox Gave me these things: A flexible reservation space for 40. Table tops with sheets, two attentive servers, and all around Owner who checked up on us. I can't express this enough. They are the GO TO for private rooms and food. The food, drinks, and service were premium on our wedding night without worrying about premium prices! Time flew by so fast! Highly recommend! read more

My wife and I have visited The Sly Fox three times in the past. Today, May 30, 2026, was the straw that broke the camels back! We brought our two grown sons to "enjoy" a lunch. The Sly Fox was not busy. It took our waiter, if you want to call him that, fifteen (15) minutes to come to our table. He walked by us TWICE to serve a table of two, hand them their bill, stand there and listen to these two women fighting over who's gonna pay THEIR bill. All along, my family sat there and watched this "waiter" walk by us TWO more times, only to come back to welcome us and take our orders. To make a long story shorter, this "waiter" came back to our table three (3) times to ask ME (the person who is paying) questions about my order. I was so MAD, I told this "waiter" to forget this, I'm taking my family somewhere else! The Sly Fox missed out on a $150 tab because this "waiter" took fifteen (15) minutes to greet us, did not know anything about the menu, came back to our table (3) three times to tell me a different EXCUSE!!! I STOOD UP, TOLD THIS "WAITER", "CANCEL OUR ORDER" and went to THE BELL TREE TAVERN in Southern Pines instead! My family sat and I had a FANTASTIC lunch at The Bell Tree Tavern than we would've EVER had at The Sly Fox!! We used to like The Sly Fox, but not anymore. We prefer The Bell Tree Tavern 1000% better. Only come to Pinehurst every so often but when I do I make sure to come to the Sly Fox every time !! The food is absolutely incredible (I could eat their butter chicken every day for the rest of my life) but every dish is bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. You can tell the kitchen cooks with their heart... I've noticed the new ownership has taken the Sly Fox to a new level. On top of that, the service was some of the friendliest I've ever experienced. The staff made us feel genuinely welcome and taken care of from start to finish. The owner even came by to chat with us and let us try one of their specials on the house. First time visiting and it was for the Easter brunch buffet. I made the reservation nearly three weeks in advance, driving over an hour to get there, only to find out when we arrived we weren't on the list. I thought something might be up when I didn't get a confirmation call a few days in advance, but not knowing their protocol, I trusted it would be ok. Wrong. All the owner kept saying is, you're not on the list. Not an apology or gee, I don't know what happened. No, just, you're not in the list. It's like he wanted us to just leave. I offered to show him on my phone log when I called for the reservation and told him how far we drove. He said he'd see what he could do. Long story short, we got a small table for two where the seating was low living room arm chairs. I was able to get a more regular chair as I have back problems, but my spouse was stuck with the other seat as described. We thought, well, let's put this behind us and just enjoy the meal which sounded great online. Our waitress was cheerful and wonderful. Really just a pleasure and checked on us frequently. No issues there at all. The restaurant inside is nicely decorated with everything British. My friend in the UK even looked at their website and said it looked like a "proper British pub" and wanted me to give her a full report. So on to the buffet. We were so hopeful with such an array of choices. All of the meat was cool to cold. The lamb and prime rib had very little flavor, the glaze on the ham tasted like ashes. The mashed potatoes were very good tho. Yay for the potatoes! And so was the tomato soup. The young man at the omelet station was very kind and accommodating when I asked for as small an omelet as he could make and it was tasty. I tried an egg benedict and the egg was not runny at all and I couldn't cut thru the English muffin it was so hard. That was also the case with the waffle wedge so both went uneaten. Overall not the greatest experience and at $40 a head it was hard to swallow. My suggestion to the owner, if you're the only one who's going to accept reservations for an event like this inform your staff so diners aren't surprised when their reservation is nonexistent. Between that and the lackluster food I doubt that we would ever would return, which is too bad cos we were really looking forward to it! read more

We arrived at 8:08 on Saturday night and were instantly seated. We were excited to try a new restaurant. We waited around 5 minutes to see a waiter and we were served drinks in a timely manner. At that time we ordered an appetizer and it came out promptly from a runner. Then it took our server a good while to take our order. Then we waited and waited. The restaurant started to clear out and we didn't see our waiter anywhere. Finally, the manager came up to ask us how we enjoyed our meal and we stated that we had not received our meal. He went to check and then the waiter came came and apologized and said that the kitchen lost our ticket. The manager said he sent us an appetizer, which was "Devils on Horseback" which were burned to black, to tide us over until our food was made. Finally, AT 9;45, after waiting 1 hour and 50 minutes for food they brought our dinners. They were the dregs of the kitchen. Lukewarm and very underwhelming. The waiter did offer us a free dessert for our trouble, but it was too little, too late. We were by far, the last patrons out of the restaurant and we paid full price for a horrible and LATE meal. Basically, they forgot that we were even in the restaurant. Needless to say, we were very disappointed and the manager didn't make it right!!! I know that things happen, but it's how the staff reacts that makes or breaks a dining experience and their reaction was indifference. So 0/100, don't recommend. read more

We wanted to like this adorable pub. Alas, the food was horrible the house wine undrinkable and the tables and floor were completely filthy (sticky). We had to send back cold French fries and a bungled BYO quesadilla. The chicken pot pie was cold under the pastry but we were sick of sending things back. The only slightly positive thing I can say is that our server was kind but clearly had too many tables. My family and I went for a Thanksgiving dinner. It was a buffet and we waited so long before we could even get up to get food, but that's not even the worst part. Our entire dinner we had people wrapped around us watching us as we ate and staring over our dinner table. It was the most awkward, uncomfortable dinner I've ever had. The service was also very poor. And the whole event was very unorganized. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Lo and behold, little did I know the BEST restaurant would be found in the small village of Pinehurst at the Sly Fox. I'm originally from the area and heard this place had new management. I decided to give it a try and was blown away. Top tier service and extremely elevated bar food that borders the line of fine dining. The outside is beautiful. I mean it should draw people in, which it did. BUT the service is awful. Me and my mother law came in when we were not spoken to the whole times we came in and sat down. There were 8 people in the restaurant. A supervisor and 2 servers looked at us like we just killed somebody. Walked past us 4 times without saying hello or anything! We didn't even get a menu the whole 30 minutes we were there! Also everyone besides the bartender had there phone out just talking about anything! I mean how can you just walk past somebody without even saying hi, welcome in! We went down the street to Chapmans and had AMAZING SERVICE, I am thankful yall were so rude and digesting to us! We stopped for a few cocktails. The drinks were mixed well and there was a nice selection of beer to choose from. The bartender was very pleasant and efficient. He made a few recommendations on the beer and wine selections which were on point. We ordered some figs wrapped in bacon which were good. The atmosphere was pleasant with the bar as the focal point. There is seating throughout with a back room and outside seating as well. We will stop back again and try a few things on the menu. read more

I worked at the Sly Fox about 10 years ago. It was one of the best restaurants in town. I came back to town over the weekend after being away for a long time and was excited to show my fiance this place. Hostess was not warm and inviting. We saw many open reservations on open table and was like ok we can just walk in. She refused to offer us a table or even one outside but just insisted we find one at the bar. We found 2 seats, sat there for about 10 mins with neither bartender looking at us. The guests beside us who were clearly regulars made a comment about us not being greeted. Finally the male bartender got us menus and walked away. Didn't even offer us water. The female bartender came over a few mins later and we ordered drinks. I got my drink about 5 mins after she gave my fiance his. Got our order in and I was excited to see things on the menu that was there when I worked there. Got the butter chicken and fish and chips. BC was just like I remembered, fish and chips was a little over cooked and the fries were like we had the bottom of the bowl. No big deal because the food was better than the service. It was so unorganized. 3 more sets of guests arrived at the bar after us and the amount of time with no greets is pretty absurd. Sky Fox used to have some of the best service in town. It's sad to see it like this now. A little acknowledgment goes a long way. read more

It's unfortunate because the location, dining area and bar are some of the best in Southern Pines but this place needs new management.
