The owner is usually found serving behind the bar - very friendly. We sat at a table (8) of us. Service was slow- she was nice- charged us tip on the receipt (not telling us) - saved us some money. (They also charge extra for credit cards) Food was very good- I had the shrimp Po boy - a good bit of bread but because the roll was fresh I didn't mind. After a really hard week which ended with having to spend the day in the hospital as a patient. Eight o'clock at night. Maxie's is hands-down one of our favorite spots in Pinehurst. Great food, chill atmosphere, and it's one of the few places in the Village where locals and tourists both feel right at home. We had a group of 15 in town for a golf trip (Mid Pines, Talamore, Pine Needles), and even though it was one of their busiest nights, Maxie's made room for us in the back -- that alone deserves a huge shoutout since they don't usually take reservations. Service was on point and the whole crew had a blast. The burgers are unbeatable, and if you're around on a Wednesday, the fried chicken is a must. Huge beer selection and the fact that you can still order pitchers? That's rare these days and makes it feel like an old-school hangout in the best way. Doesn't look like much, but really really good! My husband got the wings-WOW! They were huge, and good!!!! The cheese fries were super crispy. My steak salad was only alright. However the key lime pie is the best in town!!!!! Super, puckery good with just the right level of sweet for balance. Local, warm and friendly, which is a welcome option given the plethora of chains in this area. Off the beaten path close to my parents home on the way to the village. Big bar with comfort food staples. The wings were the real deal, lots of different sauces to try. Husband had the mushroom clam chowder, Reuben, both which he loved. My California Cobb was good as well. Our server was super helpful, said the soup had free refills. I visited Maxie's for the first time with family for dinner during the week. The atmosphere was promising, but after we walked in we stood at the door waiting for a good while to be greeted or even acknowledged. The only staff around during that time was the bartender so I tried to make eye contact. When he saw us he directed us to a table and gave us menus. We decided what we wanted and put our menus down on the table and waited; I tried again to catch the attention of the staff but no one came. I've held restaurant jobs and I understand that they get crowded and staff get busy. But when no one takes your drink order or even says "I'll be right with you," that's kind of ridiculous. We had been there approximately 25 minutes when we decided to leave. I haven't left a restaurant due to poor service until now. Very unsatisfied with our experience at Maxie's especially for a place whose menu boasts that it's a "friendly neighborhood grill and bar." read more

This place has a full-bar on the inside with pub seating. Outside there are about 4-5 big round tables with umbrellas. A girlfriend and I decided to stop in for lunch. I enjoyed a tasty Bloody Mary outside under the umbrellas on a perfectly warm 'n' sticky spring day. I ordered a Veggie Burger Ruben with salad (not on the menu but should be!). It was fresh and flavorful. She got a burger and really liked it. We tried their asparagus and portabella fries. Greasy but fun. I never thought I'd eat fried food again but it's proven near impossible, living in the south. I'm constantly renewing my vow to my arteries that I'll never eat another bite of that cholesterol laden crack. Service was EXCELLENT. Our server, Bobby, kept the drinks coming and made sure everything was perfect. In a land of snooty restaurants vs. greasy fast food I'm happy to have found a casual, high quality, fairly priced lunch stop with great service to boot. Their wait staff is equally friendly and nice. When our app of chips was actually behind our main course - it was comp'd automatically. Its atmosphere is relaxed and populated by the usual crowd it seems. Along with tons of sports on tv, the place is sometimes loud. But mostly subdued. Everything on the menu is under $10. However, you order a burger for $6 and add $1.50 wedge fries and a $2 tea. So its not all one meal. But they have SO many options for sides and toppings, that you can really create your own priced budget meal! When in Pinehurst, its hard to find places to eat during the evening that are cheap and fun. Not to mention actually open. Maxie's was a pleasurable experience. If your teams playing, chances are that Maxie's has it showing on one of their many big screens. Seating has never been an issue except when big time sports events are going on. The staff here is really friendly, I've been to Maxies a multitude of times, had various waitresses, and all have done an exceptional job of service. This best food i've had here is by far their steak burgers. Possibly the best I have had in the South (much better then 5 guys or chop house), and they offer a wide selection of toppings to throw on it. The atmosphere, cute and casual. Tvs at most tables, decent cleanliness. Foo, not really that good. We tried a few of the starters with a main dish. Nothing popular was healthy. Most of the food was not unique. Sent back the egg rolls. Service was friendly but definitely casual. We just moved to Pinehurst from San Antonio and have been to Maxie's 4 times already. It's a great local spot with a full bar and plenty of beer on tap. The food is delicious! I always order the catfish platter with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. For $14, it's a steal! The inside has traditional tavern decor and there's a small patio outside. My parents live in the area, so we make an appearance 4-5 times a year. This is the place for locals and where workers from the Pinehurst Resorts meet up after work. Beer is cold. Food is above average bar fare. Lots of sports games on TV. I suspect a lot of gamblers hang out there. Saw a few group of guys really into a Wyoming University college football game. I have only been in the afternoon and they have food for little kids. Try the soups, they are really good. read more

My only complaint about Maxie's in trivial at best. The place seems to be having an identity crisis. The food is that of a nice place to take a date, but the atmosphere is definitely sports bar. My wife and I went to Maxie's because a friend said the burger there was the best in the area. When we arrived the excellent waitress described the meat on a skewer and next thing I know I was sold!
