READ WHOLE REVIEW: My first impression of this place was not good. Seemed like a factory, a quick 15 min cleaning and not much talk, then off to the next child BUT then....My son needed to have some dental work at the age of three, he has ADHD and very serious needle anxiety due to some hospitalizations. These dentists were beyond amazing, the comfort and care they provided was outstanding. They dimmed the lights, took their time, and even sang to him to get him to calm down during the procedure. He now asks to go to the dentist and never fears if work needs to be done. I wish it was this easy to get him to go the pediatrician's office. This place sucks they say their work isn't meant to last. They did work on my child's tooth. And the beginning of the year now they have to redo the same work they did half way through the year. The place is shadier then any dentist office I've ever been to and I grow up in the 90s there were some shady dentists offices. That the change you to much you have to go on a payment plan and you'll be lucky if you don't have to fill for bankruptcy to get the bill off you. Not for teens any more. The doctor there are no wonder great, but not to the extent to handle teens with anxieties. My daughter had a toothache because of cavity. We went there with a pain and facial swelling and they kept insuring of doing the filling treatment instead removing the infection first. Very disappointing! read more

So I am going to begin with that this place was worth the 2 hour drive and glad I stuck with my momma instinct and came here for a second opinion, they saved my baby girls smile ! This place is just after your money! During cleaning appointments, they say one thing, but when you return to the front building for fillings or caps, they suddenly insist on unnecessary tooth extractions that would naturally fall out on their own! They constantly try to perform a bunch of undisclosed work and use scary tactics, claiming that not getting it done will cause more damage. You might go in to have one tooth removed, but then they'll say you need three teeth taken out during your appointment. If you're lucky, they'll inform you, but sometimes they do it without even notifying you! They constantly pressure you into doing things after you've already said "No" multiple times! read more

They herd you like cattle through the facility booking appointments overlapping with a half a dozen other people to do cleanings in one big room. When the kids get done practicing dentistry on your children you wait in the chair for the dentist to come in the room to work their way down the row to your child for their 45 second speed checkup. When they miss something during the checkups that rivel a NASCR pitstop and your child's issue that was missed in several prior appointments escalates go to a real dentist. Smile Lodge simply is not capable of doing any real dental work, they can barely do a cleaning correctly and they don't do proper examinations. read more

Dr. McMahon and the whole staff is absolutely amazing. We have been going to the Smile Lodge since my son was little. He is nine now. I don't mind the drive because I know my kids are safe and happy there. My 3 year old had a pretty major procedure yesterday and they not only ensured she was ok and comfortable, they even took this high strung moms anxiety into account and continuously checked on me explaining everything as they went. My daughter doesn't remember anything other than going to the dentist yesterday and is excited to go back, which is great as I was terrified she would be too scared of the dentist after her procedure. The practice is extremely cleanly, they even went as far as distracting her, and not letting her realize when lifting the chair as that was the one thing she was nervous about. I cannot say enough good about the Smile Lodge. We waited almost two years for my daughter to be big enough for her procedure and the whole time they stayed by close to us, helping manage everything they could while we waited for her to be big enough. We are Smile Lodge Lifers for sure! There was even a time my daughter randomly had some dental issues and I emailed the on call at 8:33PM, they responded by 8:39. At night and on a weekend. He's the most awesomest guy aside from being a children's teeth doctor, he's a riot! In a good way, if in case, you're not into riots. He's funny, he's great with the kiddies and he's just a great people person. He treats everyone the same, staff, students and faculty alike. You can't say that about a lot of people. He's very down to earth and the kids love him! He tells silly stories that makes children listen to him with wide-eyed wonder and for no extra charge, he even does MAGIC and the greatest anti-jokes ever! As far as his skillage in dentistry, he's pretty damn fast, which is super important and necessary in working with pediatric patients. I've tried this place two more times and again, was seriously disappointed. My child needs to have some work done. Ok, cool. First thing the doctor said was to put silver in my child's mouth. I said no. The doctor looked at me like I was crazy. It was finally agreed to use white fillings/sealants. Fast forward: I show up to the appointment and was told a "big cavity was found" and the work might not all be completed same day. Why wasn't this cavity "found" at the last appointment when xrays were taken? Laughing gas is necessary for these procedures and since we might have to come back, my kid would have to have a second dose of the gas. No thank you. I have since called another pediatric dentist and switched my kid to another practice. Oh, this reminds me: I didn't have to sign anything for my child's records to be released. I was told since it was going to another dentist's office, all the other office had to do was call. HIPAA violations anyone? I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. read more

My son loves this place and he seems to be always excited to meet Spiderman (Dr. Eric McMahon) when he goes for a routine cleaning or check up. Everyone is always courteous and helpful. The Smile Lodge runs like a well oiled machine, but never feels impersonal. We are in and out quickly and efficiently and all of the staff are wonderful. My daughter feels comfortable with all of the doctors and hygienists and they always take the time to explain things in an age appropriate way before they start. She had a small procedure and was very scared beforehand. When the doctor came in he asked if I had any questions I said no but she is nervous, and the attention was immediately turned to her and they put her at ease. Also, when I was between jobs and had a one month lapse in health insurance, the Smile Lodge refused to see my 1-year old who had a very concerning dental issue. I told them repeatedly that if I couldn't get my insurance to cover the visit that I would pay out of pocket for the visit as soon as I got my next paycheck and they flat out refused to see my son. I understand that everyone needs to make money but it's nice if a place that is providing a form of health care cares at least a little about the well being of their patients. read more

My kids have been going here for years. First couple of years were good and I started noticing that visits were very in and out. We have come in contact with some AMAZING techs and doctors!!!. Recently my child needs work done due to a cavity the treatment was to cap it with silver, not fix the cavity on an adult tooth but instead shave it down and a silver cap. Thankfully, my daughter has a second dental insurance that we were lucky enough to get her into our dentist that we use. Took her in and immediately they questioned the amount of caps on all the teeth and they did find not 1 cavity but 2 cavities. I am thankful for having stood firm on not wanting the caps on the adult teeth. I do have a lot of mom guilt for having gone through with all the caps my daughter had to get in the past. Unfortunately, my daughter now 8 years old is very scared of the dentist due to remembering every procedure done to her and I regret ever taking her there to begin with. ******* please do not just go with what anyone says to get done!!!! ask more questions and if your gut says that something is wrong please question them**** There are so many good practices and this place can be a good one for other people but not for my kids. The smile lodge is worth the drive. I usually don't do reviews but I had to let others know just what they are missing out on. I've taken my daughter to a few other dentist but these guys are top notch. They make sure the experience is kid friendly and FUN. The dentist had on a superhero outfit how cool is that! There are 4 waiting rooms each one playing your latest Disney movie so if your little one is having some anxiety about the dentist office the Disney movies plays as a great distraction, not to mention the awesome free photo booth to pass time while you wait..... Speaking of the wait... there's hardly ever a real wait!! There's nothing bad I can say about this place. Seriously lol. read more

I have 5 children, so I've seen quite a few different dental practices over the years. However, the Smile Lodge was by far the most accommodating, child-oriented place I have ever come across. Between the kid-friendly atmosphere and wonderful staff, my six year old daughter was able to have a pretty invasive procedure done with minimal discomfort. I was terrified of how she would be for extractions, considering that she has anxiety attacks with just vaccinations; fortunately, these professionals seemed to truly care about her mental well-being and did everything in their power to make her comfortable. And I LOVED the TV's they placed over the dental seat! She was able to watch and hear her favorite movie, all the while the female staff sang along with her. I'm bringing ALL of my kids there for now on! This practice is about as phenomenal as it gets! read more

I brought my 5 year old here and wow, what a nightmare! First, the hygienist was very uninterested in her job. Complaining to me about it while she prepped my daughter. She told me how she never slept and how tired and boring her job was. She even told me how she nods off while she works. I should have left right then. I dont know why I stayed. Things didnt improve when the dentist arrived. She was rough with my daughter, who was petrified. No effort was taken to calm her. I was the only one speaking nicely to her. I didnt realize, but they had decided to remove five teeth and cap five, in one visit! It was WAY too much work to do in one visit and most was not even needed. Especially with a child who was so afraid. My daughter did her best and was strong through it even though they were hurting her. Samimi was very violent in her prying her teeth out while I sat there in horror. My daughter was screaming in pain. I kept yelling at them to stop, but Samimi brushed me off and she and the hygienist held her down and continued. I really had to holler and physically make them stop. They were shocked that I was even upset! They acted like I was being ridiculous and all of this was normal. I took my daughter to the bathroom (she was so upset she was going to pee her pants) and I calmed her and she agreed to let them put the last two caps on. The last few minutes were quieter, but Samimi put the last cap on badly. It sticks out too far and is crooked. She just shrugged and said 'good enough'. This place is HORRIBLE. Please, do not take your children here. My daughter, who previously had no fear of the dentist, is now very fearful. Her teeth are all screwed up and I can only hope her new dentist can fix them. read more

We are returning patients after living out of state. We've missed this dentistry SO, SO much since we left NY. They are unlike anyone we've ever met before. While we were living out of state I coordinated our return visit with the scheduling coordinator, Karen Traite. She made the transition effortless and was incredibly helpful in getting the kids back into the practice. She replied to my emails promptly and was a true professional with amazing customer service. Upon our return we received our check-up and cleanings immediately (which we were grateful for). Side Note- My children have been coming to them for roughly 7yrs. We have nothing but positive experiences from their caring and professional staff. Their new location, The Smile Lodge is beautiful and kid approved (even us big kids enjoy it!). It's safe to say they truly "get" kids and it shows in their interactions with them. Bonus - They've inspired good habits in my children and possible future dentists in the making. read more

My 9 year old had sealants put on her molars because of how they grew in. They had bridges which would have led to cavities. I was able to go in the room with her, and stay with her the whole time They had a TV above her head which she thought was really cool! The tech explained everything that was going to happen in a way that made her feel comfortable, and the doctors joked around with her and put her at ease. They used laughing gas which worked very well to help her be comfortable. I wish they had a place that was closer to us but trust me, it's worth the drive time! They are amazing with kids. read more
