After wanting to try The Smoke Pit for over a week, we finally went today for lunch. We were greeted with smiles and genuine friendliness. Our server Brandon was the most attentive, gracious, and friendliest server! Brandon answered all our questions and offered recommendations when asked. We ordered ribs and a burnt end sandwich, both with sides. We have been eating bbq from Cali to NC these past 2 months. I have to say, the ribs were smoked just right with the right amount of coloring and bite and not o er sauced. The burnt ends in the sandwich could not have been more tender and flavorful! Went to the Gastonia location tonight (a Saturday). Arrived at 5:45 and they were out of pork. We learned it's a regular occurrence for them to run out of food on Saturday's. Note to he owner/manager..... Time to prep more food on Saturday's! Duh. We opted for the chicken quarters. Some parts were good - some parts were dry. We went to Smoke Pit tonight and the food was awesome. Everything was fresh and delicious both sides and the main dishes. The desserts were even better. But the best thing about our meal was our server Andy. She was a breath of fresh air and she made our visit that much better!!! I tried this bbq one day and because it was behind target I didn't know it was there. The bbq without sauce was very moist. All the sides were delicious and tasted homemade. They had really good prices too. My uncle and I shared a small pulled bbq plate and we couldn't eat it all. They give your more food than you can eat. I will definitely be going back in the future. The food was okay but at this location the service is trailer park and ghetto style working together type of employees working as waiters and waitresses. The best thing to me is take it to go it's not really a good dining in place. The bar sucks and if you look up at the ceiling you can find bbq sauce splashed on the tiles. Wow!!! I've had a favorite NC BBQ place for for pretty much my entire adult life, but today that changed. The Smoke Pit is the new top dog for me. I went with a friend and we decided to sample as much as possible. We ordered a full rack of ribs and a pick three meat plate. Our other three meats were brisket, wings, and burnt ends. Sides were collard greens and Deviled Egg Potato Salad. Let's get straight to the thing I was most excited about, the ribs. These things were massive, juicy, and full of flavor. Just the right amount of rub and sauce on them. I've ate a lot of BBQ Ribs and these are definitely towards the top of that list, easily second best. Wings, also amazing. We went with the NY Hot sauce and the heat matched the flavor perfectly, which a lot of restaurants struggle with. Burnt Ends, the biggest burnt ends I've ever had and very flavorful. Now full disclosure, the flavor was good but probably my least favorite of the meats. That's not to say they're bad, it more of testament to how amazing the rest of the food was. Last on the meats, the Brisket. It had a great taste to it but was a little on the tougher end. They do give you the option of lean pieces, fatty, or both which is a nice touch. Had lunch there today and the food was pretty good. Our appetites went away as we noticed a really bad odor of sewer gas in the bar and bar seating area. We will not be returning until this sewer gas order is resolved it was absolutely awful. I honestly don't see how it is safe for employees to inhale that gas all day. read more

We were excited when The Smoke Pit opened and we went right away. Unfortunately, the food was ice cold so we crossed the restaurant off our list. Yesterday, when every other restaurant was busy, we finally returned to give it another try. Well, the food temp is still the same. BBQ chicken, okra, hush puppies: all cold. Add in the dirty surroundings, unbused tables, broken door to the patio and short-staffing and they are now permanently off our rotation. It's actually depressing to be there. read more

Came highly recommended, don't know why. I thought the Carolina's were known for bbq but this place wasn't it. They did have a large menu and selection. I had a 2 meat combo, brisket mixed and burnt ends, pinto beans and green beans. Brisket flat was extremely dry. Beans were awful, green beans bland. Burnt ends were soft and tasted pretty good. Not seeing or smelling any smokers, I'm not sure where the food is actually cooked and the meat had no smoke ring. Wouldn't go back. Lots of other places to try. read more

I LOVE THIS BBQ. BUT. The last four times I have been they are out of at least one item. Once, it was brisket. Once it was sausage. One it was ribs and something else. Tonight it was pork, chicken and baked potatoes. I get it, you make so much per day. Somehow other BBQ restaurants are making this happen daily without issue but not the Smoke Pit. I'm done. I have been wanting to eat BBQ one at the midwood smokehouse at Charlotte but never got time to go. So I was really hungry after a long hike I decided to go target and saw this place which I never knew this place even existed. I yelp it when I saw and the menus was same as the one I been wanting to go. I wanted to dine in but was not sure if they were doing dine in, but lucky they were doing a dine in, take out and delivery. No wonder why it was so pack it's because their food was BOOM finger-licking good. I had a dry 3 amigos combo it was super tasty just like I wanted too eat. They grilled well done not too raw or not too over cooked and their sauces were too good like they have 4 diff kind of sauces which is more likely a tangy taste which I loved it. Customer service was great they were very curtesy and they kept checking on me asking if I need anything. The food here is amazing! My only criticism is they run out of food every day. I know they serve food prepared daily and when it is sold, that's it, but the first time I ate there was at 6:30 on a Saturday. They are supposed to be open til 9. We arrived at 6 and the line was out the door and around the building, generally a good sign even if I hate to wait. At 6:30 when we got to the counter they were sold out of burnt ends and one other item. I had the brisket, and it was melt in your mouth tender! Excellent!!! Today I went at 11:45, there was a short line, but not bad. I had a combination of burnt ends and brisket. So good, you need a moment. Highly recommend, just go early. read more

I just moved to Gastonia from Concord and thought that I couldn't go wrong by stopping into the Smoke Pit on 9/29/21. I am totally sold on the food at the Concord location so I felt Gastonia would be the same. I am not sure if it was the mere fact that I came in right before closing but I was not satisfied in the least. I definitely feel like I got the scrapings from the bottom of the barrel. I asked for the 1/4 chicken (it was dry), sweet potato casserole (not good) and greens (barely and on the plate). The only good thing is I decided to eat in and asked to add a drink when I decided so the drink was on the house. I hope they do better going forward but I will eat at the Concord location u til that day. read more

OMG. I'm not even a big bbq person - but this is one of my top favorite restaurants. Everything they have is beyond delicious. I love their pulled chicken best - with Mac and cheese and fries, of course! My husband tries something different every time we go and he's never been disappointed.
