A solid BBQ spot. A party of 6 dined for an early Tuesday dinner. Service was good, the place feels like a Roadhouse BBQ, and the food was very good. Nice sized portions. Little cheese muffins were so tasty! No frills bar. Good choice if you're in the area.

I really wanted to like this place, but our visit was a letdown from start to finish. The service was the first red flag. It took almost an hour and a half to get our food. When we asked about the delay, our server, Justice, apologized but explained that he had to make drinks for other tables, so we'd just have to wait. The restaurant was dead when we visited, yet we still sat there largely unnoticed for far too long. When a place is that empty and you're still being ignored for 90 minutes, that says a lot. The food didn't make the wait worth it. The pulled pork was fatty and unpleasant, and the barbecue sauce was bland and watery -- not what you want from a barbecue joint. To make matters worse, no additional sauces were offered even when we specifically asked. The sausage came out burnt. My son ordered lean brisket and got a plate that was essentially all fat. Another son tried to order ribs, only to be told they were out. The one bright spot was the brisket chili, which was genuinely excellent -- but one good dish can't carry an entire meal. The fries were fine, nothing more. The value doesn't add up either. A combo plate at $24 that doesn't even include brisket is honestly a little absurd for a barbecue restaurant. Bottom line: between the poorly prepared food, the missing menu items, the questionable pricing, and service that left us waiting nearly 90 minutes, we would not recommend Jim N' Nick's and won't be coming back.

Very warm welcome and exceptional customer service from start to finish. Justice was both my bartender and my server and was so helpful in walking me through the menu and explaining all dishes. Highly recommended!!

Baby Back Ribs (4/5): I just really like ribs so I liked these, but they weren't anything special. Maybe a step up from Chili's. Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage (4/5): Good flavor but very dry and not juicy at all. Maybe a little too salty as well. Collard Greens (4/5): Pretty solid. Meat bits were mostly the bad parts though so that was a little unappetizing. Fries (3/5): Not crispy enough. Mac n Cheese (3/5): Flavor was there but the texture was very mushy. RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

We brought the whole family out today and left completely blown away. This place is the real deal no shortcuts, no gimmicks, just serious barbecue done right. Chill vibe inside. We went all in on the meats: smoked chicken salad, spareribs, pulled chicken, Carolina-style pork, and BBQ brisket. Every single protein was fall-off-the-bone tender with that perfect smoke ring and deep, layered flavor you can only get from a pit master who actually knows what they're doing. The brisket deserves its own paragraph buttery, juicy, and sliced just right. The sides are not an afterthought here, and that alone sets this place apart. Cheddar cornbread muffins are no joke. mac and cheese was rich and creamy, the baked potato was loaded and generous, and the onion rings had a satisfying crunch. The baked beans had that slow-cooked depth, the collard greens were perfectly seasoned, and the coleslaw was crisp and refreshing ,a great palate cleanser between bites. And then there was the brisket chili. Smoky, hearty, and packed with chunks of real brisket , it's the kind of bowl that makes you wish you saved more room. Everything came out flavorful and cooked with obvious care and pride. the quality was consistent across the board, and the whole family left happy and stuffed. This is the kind of BBQ spot you tell your friends about and then bring them to the following weekend. Absolutely coming back.

We were traveling in the Charlotte area and someone told us "you have to go to Jim N Nick's Bar-B-Q". So we did.... Now just my opinion! What I ordered I didn't like. My wife ordered the same thing and she loved it as well as four other people in our group said the same thing. The difference between mine and their's were mine came out lukewarm and everyone else's came out hot. I ordered the OUR FAMOUS BRISKET CHILI - Homemade chili made with our smoked brisket. I just didn't care for the flavor.... One of the guys in our group ordered the chicken and he went nuts over it! He said "this is the best chicken he has ever had" which is saying a lot because this guy cooks, smokes and grills a lot of chicken and for him to say that was the best chicken he has ever had is saying a lot. I personally didn't try the chicken but several other people in our group said the same thing. Definitely recommend this restaurant! Everyone was very nice! Everything was very clean. * The people in our group would give this restaurant a 5 star. My food and what I ordered is what my review is based on.

It is really unfortunate that this brand cannot keep consistency among stores. I have been to some that were really good and some that were just OK. This one was really bad. I had the rib, sausage and turkey platter. It came with 2 sides, I had beans and fries. The ribs were tough and undercooked. They were cut huge so that probably caused that. The turkey was OK but the sausage was cooked to the point that it was dry and hard. I really did not enjoy this meal. This experience probably pushed me over the edge to not eat at Jim N Nicks again.

It was one of my first meals after moving back to NC- delicious! I missed NC's pulled pork a lot, and this definitely was a hit! Potato salad was delicious as well, and the collard greens too! Definitely recommend this spot!

My family and I visited here when they came into town and it was just okay to me. The ribs were good even though they could use more sauce. I wasn't a fan of the collards however I appreciated our waitress was kind enough to let me swap for another side. The baked beans however were a much better choice if you're visiting in the future. The Mac and cheese was also good. I will say they do give great portion sizes that will be more than filling. It honestly just comes down to side preference.

Today while in Charlotte we decided to try Jim N Nicks to go. Everything was so good! I especially loved the deviled eggs and cheese rolls. Definitely a must try if you're planning to order from here! I also recommend the chili with brisket. So good! Next time I would like to eat at the restaurant as it looked pretty nice and the service seemed good as well. Definitely recommended!

Brisket, corn on the cob and brisket chili very good brisket very lean, and the chili delicious. Service was good and smooth and friendly. Ambiance was good and comfortable.

That's a $9 bowl of chill to go ! Nit even 1/2 full ! Absolutely ridiculous!

Mac's sits in the heart of South End and shares the neighborhood with several busy bars and nightlife spots. Parking can be a bit of an adventure, but they do have dedicated lots nearby. Once you're there, the setup is great: a large dining room, plenty of picnic-table patio seating, and my favorite option--a seat at the outdoor bar where the inside bar opens through a service window to the patio. The bartender, Alyssa, was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable, and patient while I stared at the giant menu trying to figure out what I wanted. When I asked for recommendations, she immediately suggested the burnt ends, BBQ baked beans, and Mexican street corn. Excellent call. The blackberry seasonal hard cider she recommended was delicious and paired beautifully with the meal. My only surprise was the price. At nearly $9, it was more than I expected for a cider, and I wish I had asked beforehand. The burnt ends arrived with bright pickled red onions that added the perfect acidic balance. The flavor was excellent--smoky, rich, and satisfying. That said, they leaned heavily toward the fatty side. The deeper I got into the serving, the more rendered fat I encountered compared to meat. Delicious? Yes. Light? Absolutely not. The BBQ baked beans were exactly what you want from a barbecue joint. The Mexican street corn was a standout and a refreshing contrast to all the richness. My only critique was that the burnt ends weren't served quite as hot as I would have liked, and by the end of the meal, the richness became overwhelming. That's probably more on me for ordering burnt ends at 9 p.m. than on Mac's. The final bill came to about $37 before tip, which felt a little steep for a solo barbecue dinner and cider. Looking back, I'd probably visit during lunch. Their weekday lunch specials around $10 look like one of the best values in South End. Would I come back? Absolutely. The service was warm, the recommendations were spot on, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the food delivered exactly what a barbecue craving calls for. Next time, I'll arrive earlier, bring a bigger appetite, and maybe save the burnt ends for lunchtime. Life is too short not to eat well, Charlotte. If you're exploring South End and craving barbecue, Mac's Speed Shop is worth a stop.

I'd eaten here before and had good food memories, so after returning from Memphis with barbecue still on my mind, it seemed like the perfect time to go back. First, know what you're walking into--in the best possible way. Sweet Lew's is rustic, casual and charming. This is not fancy barbecue. They have their own private parking lot, which is a huge plus, but it's gravel. Ladies, leave the high heels at home unless you want to risk an ankle before you even get to the brisket! There's a screened-in porch/patio dining area and a small air-conditioned dining room inside, where you'll also find the restrooms. And when I say small, I mean small. It adds to the neighborhood barbecue-joint charm, but I can easily imagine this place getting packed during peak hours and weekends. I apparently hit the sweet spot because it wasn't crowded during my visit. The setup is equally casual. You line up, order and pay at the counter, grab your sauces and utensils, find a table and settle in. There's no wait staff. If you want a beverage, you'll head to the bar area and order that separately. Everyone I encountered was friendly, and service moved quickly. My usual order is the one-meat/two-side combo, which is $17 and includes hush puppies. This time I ventured away from the pork shoulder and ordered brisket with barbecue beans and potato salad. I also added the boiled potatoes as an extra side and a sausage link because I wanted to sample more of the menu. Unfortunately, the brisket didn't hit the same way the pork shoulder did on my previous visit. It was heavily peppered, not particularly moist, and had a thick fatty layer that peeled away from the meat. I was also missing that flavorful exterior bark I look forward to with brisket. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable. I sampled several sauces trying to find the right match. The mustard-based sauce was far too mustard-forward for my taste, and one of the sweeter sauces had a thick texture I didn't care for. The spicy barbecue sauce remains the winner for me. I'd enjoyed it previously with the pork shoulder, and it was the one I kept coming back to. The boiled potatoes looked delicious on the line but were underwhelming once I tasted them. They'll need a little doctoring up at home. The sausage took a few extra minutes, which I didn't mind since it came out fresh. Then came my biggest surprise: the bill was almost $35. Once I looked at the menu again, the math made sense. The combo was $17, but an additional side is $5 and the sausage link is $10. Lesson learned! The combo plates are clearly the better value rather than building your meal à la carte. I still like Sweet Lew's. My first meal here was stronger than this one, and next time I'll go straight back to the pork shoulder, spicy barbecue sauce and a combo plate. One disappointing brisket isn't enough to erase those good food memories. If you're around Belmont just outside Uptown and craving some barbecue, head over to Sweet Lew's. Wear sensible shoes, grab a combo, find your favorite sauce and enjoy the rustic charm. Life is too short not to sleep well, travel well or eat well. So get out there and find your next meal.

We had high expectations; after all, they were on Top Chef, but definitely not unrealistic, we are from Texas. Here's the thing, I'm not a big meat person. I like tofu, but also turkey, but I'm gonna try all of it. So we got way too much food to actually finish, but we were going to sample some chicken (turkey was unavailable), brisket, and pork. The sides were mac and cheese, a tomato based coleslaw, and hush puppies. So let's start with who, or what, is safe (nod to Top Chef)- the hush puppies and the coleslaw. The hush puppies were crispy and soft and full of flavor. They were tiny little pops that I could eat so day. Same with the coleslaw. I do not care for coleslaw, but this magic was insane. It made every bite taste so much better. The mac and cheese was also delicious. It was al dente and creamy and rich with flavor. I think most bbq places do mac and cheese a disservice, but not here. So that's it! If you're vegetarian and not vegan and love sides. This is your place. What's on the chopping block? The meats. Maybe it was a bad day because most reviews are great, but that was not my experience. The chicken was beyond overdone. It was practically on the verge of being inedible. The brisket was just as bad. It was so inconsistent. Some was moist, but we were served mostly a brick. Literally a hard chunk that couldn't be penetrated. The pork was good. It was probably the only thing that didn't need to be drowned in sauce. That's my other issue. Why do all the places offer so many sauces?? It's not Taco Bell or McDonald's. What are you trying to hide? Unfortunately, the delicious sides don't make up for the fact that we spent a lot for meats and the majority ended up trashed.

You place your order at the counter and they bring it to you to your table. They have everything from the vinegar based barbecue sauce typical of the Carolinas to the tomato based slightly sweet and smoky found up north where we're from. The staff was very friendly. The food was served, hot and quick, and it was really good. We particularly enjoyed the burnt ends. They were meaty had a nice little crust on the outside but juicy and tender on the inside. The fried okra could have used a bit more salt but was still good and what we thought was a cornbread muffin was actually a roll. It was actually something between cornbread and a roll if that makes sense. The baked beans were just ok I've had better but taste is subjective so yeah try them and see what you think!
