I think yelpers have this place about right. My review is based on one visit, and is somewhat slanted by me being in the BBQ business for awhile. First of all good BBQ and need to try it for yourself as BBQ is a lot like pizza . Everyone has their favorite style. His set up is efficient order move down the line a prep station consist of a cutting area and steam table for sides . . The coke machine is on a old table and in the way. I say lose it it sucks and sitting at the table you can see all the lines going to it. it just does not fit. The back of the place is full of old ovens and junk . Lose it too. Makes th place look like a dump. The smoker oven is stuck in the back door and works on pellets not real wood but bags of pellets stacked also in the back . It is stuck in a door leading to kitchen. I don't know about Utah, but my state wouldn't allow this. ( fire hazard and extra point for bugs flies and what ever else wants in the kitchen. My plate was brisket It's chopped) Mac and cheese, BBQ beans. Mac and cheese was bla no real signature flavor to order again. beans seemed forced as if some beans were out of a can and some different beans added just seemed forced ingredence and not balanced. I did not care for the corn bread . seemed like it was baked too high of a temp and too dry . it just crumbled apart. not moist and missing something (like butter or honey butter that should of been on the tray) . So good! My boyfriend and I headed to the Smoking Apple for lunch one afternoon. It wasn't a super busy time but they were packed! I grabbed the chicken sandwich with a side of fries and mac'n'cheese, boyfriend got the brisket sandwich with mac'n'cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. All of it was amazing, although the highlights were definitely the brisket and the fries!! They have bottles of regular and spicy BBQ sauce at the tables which was great. I was hesitant based on reviews, but it was definitely amazing! I keep begging my boyfriend to go back, so we'll definitely be in soon! EDIT: We just went back and got the sausage sandwich. Wow!! We've been to The Smoking Apple several times--my husband really likes it. We usually order the pork and brisket. They are both very good. They are well cooked, juicy, and flavorful. I like that they they only add a small amount of BBQ sauce but you can always add more if you like it that way. Their sweet BBQ sauce is delicious. Their sides are just average. I like the Man 'n' cheese and coleslaw, but I don't like their mashed potatoes or their corn bread. The corn bread has a strange flavor that I can't quite make up and the mashed potatoes are just too sweet. I like that their coleslaw is crisp and not swimming in dressing. With all of the meat and carbs, it is great that they also have a side of vegetables (broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower)--it makes it so I don't feel as guilty. We come back for the meat and tolerate the sides. The staff is very friendly and they do a good job at keeping the place clean. I also like that they have a pretty good kids menu. read more

While nobody will ever confuse Utah with Kansas City or Memphis for great barbecue, I think it's safe to say that The Smoking Apple is one of the best barbecue places -- and quite possibly the best -- in the area. I typically order the two meat plate with two sides and it's always hard to decide which two to get. I've tried every one of their meats and I've thoroughly enjoyed them all. The smoking apple is really close to me and right by the pool, so it makes a great afternoon snack. The flavors are simply put; majestic and make you want to order more. The fries were heavily seasoned with a dream-like pepper and other spices, it really goes great with BBQ sauce or ketchup. The Smoking Apple has been around for a while. I think that is a testament to the fact that they have good food. I'd argue that they are one of the better BBQ joints in Utah Valley. They do things right. The best part about the smoking apple is the bang for your buck. Without a doubt you get the most food for your money here than at any other worthwhile bbq place in the valley. The other night I got the 2 meat plate with chicken and sausage and 2 sides + a piece of cornbread all for $12. The chicken was moist and I liked the bbq sauces they had on top. Be warned though, it's some sort of white sauce and a bbq sauce so I'm not sure what it was but was tasty. The sausage was flavorful and had a kick to it. YUM! I got the side salad (good greens but on the small side) and Mac and cheese. Both tasted fresh and were good choices. Also, the service was nice. Friendly people at the counter and my food came out quickly! I also really liked their spicy BBQ sauce. Just a little refresher update here...most of what I wrote in the first review still applies, astonishingly, some nearly 5 years later. Staff was way, way friendlier, to the point where they were one of the high points. They also were celebrating a 10 year anniversary, which was cool and good on them. Drinks were free, but the selection should be upgraded. Interior is a lot nicer now, as well. As to the food, I had nearly the exact same meal as before (added sweet potato fries, which were soggy and came covered in some sort of sugar coating) and everything I said then applies now, except they have more house sauces, one of which, the Liquid Gold (sort of a honey mustard), is utterly fantastic. The ribs are clearly done in an oven and still are both wet, sloppy and devoid of either a rub or smoke flavor. Again, they come slathered in BBQ sauce and again, the sauce fails to live up to deliverance in that setting. It is an ok sauce, which seems to be somewhat different than before, but that is asking a lot of it. All in all, this was a much better visit than before and while the sausage is a definite must, with the addition of the Liquid Gold, I'm thinking pulled pork may be worth a shot, as that sauce can definitely elevate that type of meat. I might be leaning towards 3.5, but still not quite enough here to get the nudge much higher... read more

Although they don't advertise as Texas-style, they remind me of the BBQ I use to have in Houston. All their meats are great (free of bones, fat, etc.) and I've tried them all My wife loves the pork and chicken two meat plate, but I always go for the brisket. Their brisket has a rich dark crust and amazing flavor, especially when paired with their BBQ sauce. Even the "fatty" parts have been so slowly smoked that they wither down to just a good piece of meat. The Smoking Apple catered a corporate event I put on yesterday for nearly 50 people. Their service, pricing and food are top notch. The attendees went nuts for the delicious BBQ they served us including chicken, sausage and pork. The beans and coleslaw were equally delicious. Good value for money but there's better BBQ nearby. Ordered a 3 meat 3 side family meal for $60. Pulled pork and brisket were tasty. Good but not great. I'd rate R&R, Holy Grill, or Goodwood with better brisket and pork. The biggest issue I had was the menu didn't disclose that the cornbread was so full of sugar it was corncake rivaling most birthday cakes for sweetness. Also, added sugar to sweet potato fries which was unknown and unnecessary. The smashed potatoes had too much garlic and even they tasted a little sweet. Maybe it was just the sugar from cornbread leftover in my mouth. Overall, meats are good but not great. Sides that normally don't have sugar were very sweet. read more

This small restaurant is a shining example of doing barbecue right. Rather than trying to be all things to all people, they focus on a small menu--pulled pork, beef brisket, chicken and, last but not least, their Cajun sausage. They boast that all four are smoked for 12+ hours, and after one bite you'll certainly believe it. (If you can handle a little spice, please do try their Cajun sausage--it is wonderful beyond words.) Their variety of sides--ten different items--are all excellent as well. All of your hoped-for items are here: great dinner rolls and corn bread, yummy gooey mac & cheese, and so on. Long story short: if you can't find something you love here, you're just not trying. This place looks deceptively small. I was amazed when I counted 50 chairs. The Smoking Apple is yet another barbeque joint that fails to live up to it's promises. The brisketmeat was dry, the coleslaw was really soggy, and barbeque sauce was too sweet. The only reason I give it three stars, rather than the two it deserves, is the mashed potatoes and the cornbread. They alone can slightly save this restaurant. The potatoes with buttered corn on top is a perfect combo of buttery corn and garlic-y potatoes. The corn bread is thick, moist and perhaps a little too sweet but still very delectable. My dining partner loves this place and comes for his birthday (which is why we were there) every year. I find it less appealing, but I still manage to find the items I do like and enjoy them to the fullest. The pulled pork was actually quite moist and a little tender, much more tender than the brisket toothpicks I also had. All in all, it's a run of the mill barbeque joint. The Smoking Apple serves up some good BBQ at this Lindon restaurant. The staff is friendly and the place is nice inside. You should be aware that the restaurant is pretty small and there isn't a lot of seating, so on a busy day you might be better off ordering take-out because otherwise you may be waiting for a table. Thankfully when grabbed lunch early and there was plenty of open seating. Although the ordering and pick-up process was a little weird, when we got our food there were no complaints. I had a pulled pork sandwich which was really good with seasoned and sweet potato fries. Both types of fries were good. I've seldom met a fried potato I didn't like. Prices were typical for a BBQ restaurant, on the more expensive side for lunch, but the meals were big portions and a good value in my opinion. I would eat here again. As i have found so far, this is the best bbq ive had in Utah. Im from California and have had outstanding bbq there but this place was pretty delicious. I was impressed with the quality for the good price. A big plus is that they let you sample the meat to help out with the choice to be made. I ordered a two meat special with brisket and chicken. I also added a cajun sausage on the side which was fantastic, just the right amount of spice. You get three sides so i ordered the corn bread, mac n cheese, and slaw. They have a wide variety of sides though they were 5 star delicious they were still good. My sister ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries. I wish i would have ordered pulled pork because it was phenomenal! They have amazing fries! I do wish the brisket wasnt shredded but it was still tasty. Good food, big portions, good price! Came here after searching "nearby" on Yelp. It had good reviews so we decided to see for ourselves. The sweet potato fries were DELICIOUS!! Better than I have ever had anywhere else by a large margin!! Mmmmmm. :) I ordered them extra crispy and they were perfect! The BBQ was excellent too, as were all the sides. We had brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was lip- smacking good. Garlic smashed taters=yummy! Sweet cornbread=warm and perfectly sweetened. I went with my husband and daughters (ages 11 & 14) and they all agreed-- we will be back again soon!! My 11 year old is picky and she deemed it " the best BBQ ever!" That is always a good sign. Two in my group ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich, and I had the two-meat plate with Pulled Pork and Brisket. Pork was overcooked. It was mushy. For those of you who know me, I'm very particular about meats being cooked properly. But the flavor was awesome, and it wasn't dry. The Burnt Ends mixed in had a wonderful smoky/spicy flavor. Brisket had a great flavor. It too, was a bit overcooked, and also dry. In competition BBQ the cooks have ways to keep their brisket moist. I would recommend a little research to discover how they do it. The flavor, though, was awesome. Excellent rub, and excellent Burnt Ends. I didn't add any sauce, I'm a dry BBQ person. But the sauce was pretty good. The Mac n' Cheese was predictable. Maybe add some different cheeses. Try putting your pans in the smoker for half an hour, add a bit of smoke. This place is killer! From the minute you get out of the car in the parking lot, you can catch the sweet smell of BBQ. Inside the restaurant is cozy and nicely layed out with a lot of light and some areas to enjoy a good chat while eating. The service was fast and friendly and the food was amazing! One of the things I loved is that they give you samples of their sides! Who does that? Their sweet potato fries and dipping sauce are the best I've ever had - absoultely amazing. BBQ was very good. Friends had the fresh cole slaw and dug it. It's a tad expensive for lunch, but the portions were huge! Love it and will be back! I am a bbq fanatic! I lived in Alabama so I know the real deal! This place was awesome! Their bbq sauce!!!! It was soooo good! I almost drank straight from the bottle my wife had to stop me! I put it on my cornbread (way to crumbly for my taste, it disintegrated in my hand haha), put it on coleslaw, and so much on my pulled pork sandwich.
